the skies outside first on this beautiful day out there a few clouds now beginning to move in from the South Southwest you'll see those now from the now hurricane Trend scene which is set to make landfall in New Orleans sometime early in the morning 86 degrees our current high today humidity at 33% the winds are out of the southeast 6 to 10 and barric pressure is around 3.04 dropping just a few points from yesterday but surely to be under that 34 tomorrow now do Point around 54 so tonight mostly cloudy and as the clouds will begin to build in no rain expected for tonight 61° for your hurricane Francis which will be a tropical depression once it hits landfall again near 79 degrees tomorrow with that 40% chance of showers Brandon bonds will be around to show us the track the latest track of Hurricane Francis how it may impact our weather in just a few minutes so stay tuned for that first up of the news for today of course rumors of mass violence in schools has been in the areas we know and in the news now for several weeks and even in our area and even in Rome county social media posts there had indicated one occurring in their County yesterday but we cannot confirm it with that said in Anderson County where several have occurred recently several social media posts today have indicated there was an alleged threat from a again area this past week also we do know that Russell Barker the sheriff for Anderson County says similar threats and even arrests have been made in Anderson County one at an ois Jefferson Middle School last Thursday then a couple of arrests in the Knox County school system and a similar story with a threat coming from Campbell County yesterday Sheriff Barker in Anderson County put out on post today that read in quoting the Anderson County Sheriff's Office wishes to ensure the community that recent threats of school violence circulating on social media appear to be un founded he says these threats which have been of course shared widely on various social media platforms originate from jurisdictions uh or States outside the area according to the sheriff local law enforcement has been actively communicating with school system officials and other relevant agencies to address those concerns and ensure the safety of all our students and staff says at this time there's no credible evidence suggesting an immediate threat to our school systems the safety and well-being of our community remain our top priority he says and we continue to work diligently to Monitor and assess any potential risks we appreciate the vigilance of the public and encourage anyone with further information or concerns to of course connect local law enforcement officials please continue to follow official updates for accurate and timely information again via the sheriff Russell barers app putting out that post earlier today but again thankfully things may calm down in this area of again these threats of school violence all across the nation today ceremonies remembering well should say this story first coming up a Tennessee comp controller the investigation by the Tennessee comp controller's office has resulted in the indictments of Alex and Jessica ryau who served as volunteers for the Anderson County Rescue Squad until the resignations in May 2022 investigators determined that ride hour is misappropriated they say rescue Squad funds totaling at least $39,375 on checks as well the ridden hours wrote 17 unauthorized checks as well I think that story for our next one there but the riding ARS wrote 17 unauthorized checks from the rescue squad bank account to Jessica Ry now totaling about $35,100 and five unauthorized checks to Alex Ryden nower totaling about $4,300 the checks were deposited to their joint bank account they said and the rescue squad's board chairman told investigators that someone outside of course the name on some of those checks based upon the investigations in September 2024 the Anderson County grand jury indicted Alex and Jessica R hour both fac one count of theft of property over 10,000 three counts of forger over 2500 and one count of conspiracy to commit theft of property over 10,000 also an investigation by the comp controller's office of the treasury has revealed that significant evidence management issues within the Rocky Top Police Department raising concerns over the handling of critical criminal case materials now the inquiry which spanned records from July 1st 2023 to July 31st 2024 was launched following reports from the city of Rocky toop officials about poor evidence accounting practices by the former police chief now the findings were shared with the office of the district attorney general for the seventh Judicial District Rock toop Police Department serves about 1,800 residents the former police chief who had been with the department since 1986 and served as Chief from 1992 until his retirement in September last year was responsible they say for managing seiz property and evidence in criminal cases this role included securing maintaining and documenting the evidence for use in court proceedings however the investigation has highlighted multiple failures in the former Chief's oversight including the lack of a written policy for handling evidence and poor organization of the evidence room key findings by the state agency revealed lack of evidence log and oversight the investigation revealed that the former Chief of Rocky toop did not maintain any known evidence log during the period under review meaning investigators were unable to confirm whether all se's property had been properly handled the former Chief provided a handwritten inventory to the new Chief in September last year but he failed to reconcile which or with the actual evidence in this Department's possession investigators noted several discrepancies including instances where evidence envelopes had been opened and items were missing other findings included failure to seize or secure seiz funds missing and unsecured evidence delayed reporting by City officials the investigation also criticized Rocky Top officials for failing to report the discrepancies in a timely manner although city leaders noted and notified the cop shoulders office in July this year they had been aware of the issues months earlier Tennessee Law requires officials to report any fraud waste or abuse within five working days and the delay in this case may have hindered efforts to resolve the problems finally the new police chief who took office in September last year has already made significant changes in improving the Department's evidence management including the introduction of of the Perpetual inventory log however as of July 31st 2024 the department still lacks a comprehensive written evidence policy a critical tool they say for ensure the Integrity of evidence handling rocket toop officials have indicated they are working to address the deficiencies outlined in the investigation and ensure the proper policies are in place moving forward we'll keep you updated on that as well we'll take a break more news stay with us Commercial Metals company is still a locally operated company that's three who actually later in 1955 broke the color barrier in Southeastern Public Schools Senator Marsha Blackburn Senator Bill Hagerty and Congressman Chuck flashin teamed up with the rest of the Tennessee Congressional Delegation to sponsor the historic resolution of course that's the photo there from part of that celebration as well September has arrived and that means great promotions at City weather here with your afternoon video update started off today with some sunshine few high clouds passing through but we've seen more and more coverage as we worked throughout the day today that'll continue throughout the evening and overnight hours as well we'll start to see some shower chances building in for your Thursday in terms of those temp Tempur back up in the mid to Upper 80s Knoxville around 87 loud and Sweetwater 86 and the plateau in the lower 80s for our surface map high pressure now out of the area that's allowing for Hurricane Francine to work its way North out of the Gulf of Mexico expected to make landfall as we work throughout Louisiana and work northward in the days to come that's going to bring that increased coverage tonight as well as those shower chances in the days moving forward if we break down model guidance here still quite a bit of uncertainty in the path and strength of this system once it does make landfall and work further northward as of now high pressure off to the north and east really going to stall this system out across portions of the mid Mississippi Valley and some uncertainty on whether this works a bit further northward stalls out and then shifts East as it weekends in the days to come those are some of the questions we're going to continue to eye as we move forward the one thing that is more certain though cloud cover and shower chances going to stick around for your Thursday Friday and throughout the weekend for some drier conditions looking more possible by the start of next week so looking at the path of this system again expected to make landfall here anytime through the remainder of the day today early into the overnight hours tonight and then building northward weakening as Works across landfall expected to be here into West Tennessee portions of Arkansas by the end of Friday into Friday afternoon so looking here into tonight's forecast becoming cloudy as you work into the late overnight hours shower chances going to hold off until we get into the afternoon hours on Thursday winds will be fairly light and winds or excuse me lows and lower 60s for your school bus forecast tomorrow starting out broken to cloudy we'll start to see some those shower chances scattered in nature by the afternoon it'll be a bit cooler as well with the coverage highs around 80 your full forecast brought to you by Central Baptist Church of Oak Ridge scattered showers and a few storms can't be R out for your Thursday mainly the later half of the day continuing at times best chances into Friday Friday night scattered into Saturday lingering into Sunday temperatures though should be mild all the way through highs upper 70s to lower 80s that wrap up here on your Wednesday from Secret City weather we'll stay dry into the 8 hours tonight start of Thursday showering chances increasing though throughout the day all right thank you Brandon look to that for sure moving to sports today the OE
