presented by your local Ford stores and she's with a special guest Meredith thanks Bob bam bam is back in the Bronx Hensley muin just a couple days ago August 23rd 1989 you made your major league debut with the New York Yankees what do you remember from that day hen it was unbelievable I think uh we were playing uh I was in Columbus triaa uh playing in poaka against the Red Sox AAA team and the Yankees were playing the Red Sox here uh in the Bronx OB l in the old stadium um and I got a call from Rick down at 8:00 in the morning that was um to be on a flight at 11:00 and don't miss it because I was going to the show and um I was the first one from my country to become a major leager so the the island was upside down in kersa uh called my parents they were crying uh 150,000 people uh that couldn't believe that the day finally arrived and um you know couple days ago again was in the news you know it became a big day in C August 23rd since uh 35 years ago you played at the stadium across the street what was it like being a New York Yankee in the Bronx playing baseball for the Bron well well you know they say the grass is greener than anywhere else uh at the Yankee Stadium and I I didn't believe it until I really walked down that tunnel um I don't know if you remember the tunnel went uh out of the clubhouse across the hallway down and then you came upsteps and then you saw grass in front of you and that's that was unbelievable and they were right the grass was here anywhere else um but you know the the fans would made it so so memorable for me the fans in the bleachers you know the the the roll calls um you know whenever you did something great you know they came out of their seats to applaud you um and they also bul you when he did something bad so um there's no place like uh playing in New York and especially here in the BR Yankee Stadium bunch of Legends in the house yesterday older's day I'm going to call it season vets day right did you get to catch up with any right so um uh you know luckily I was down the hallway kind of going to see some people on the on the home side and ran into Jeet um we were good old friends I was in the clubhouse when he first came up in 93 obviously our good friends passway Gerald Williams was like brothers with him he was like my other brother so um you know good catching up with him CC was in the hallway too C caught up with him um Swiss alicious was uh everywhere got up with him in the hotel L Pella when I first came to to the Bronx in 198 7 when I had a big gear in AB ball Stein bner said bring him up let him work out with the team so I was here working out for with a team for a week and Lou was the manager at that time so I always had a good connection with Lou great to see him um so uh many many guys uh gram Lloyd you know Jeff Nelson all those guys uh Bernie Bernie is like my little brother uh we played together eight years when I was all eight years I was here actually uh so I got a chance to catch up with uh with most of them you mentioned Derek you were in the clubhouse when he was first coming up we know the career that he had did you ever see that out of that skinny kid from calabazo nobody ever saw that because I think I think he made like 60 errors uh that year and um and didn't didn't get off the great start but you know obviously whoever scouting which uh did a great job putting eyes on him and and decided that he was a first- round pick and decided he was going to be a big leager uh knew what they were doing so uh good o to those guys but you know what a what a career what a guy what a what a Persona and uh what a what a what a guy to be friends with so it's it's unbelievable that um you said this great career in Hall of Famer now
