Whitehall's Camden Thompson reflects on pledge to Western Michigan University football, basketball

[Applause] how hard was the decision to make um it was pretty hard I mean I had to take time talk to my my you know my parents coaches you know everyone that's been really involved in my life you know to make sure I make the right decision and the one that I want to make and what I feel like's best for me so it yeah it took some time took some time for sure but I mean overall I feel amazing about my decision and making by the people that helped me make it too what was it about Western that that told you this is the spot that I need to be um really just the culture there is great amazing the coaches are really an into it they always you know just they're they're just themselves and they're just great toward me and uh just amazing people and yeah the co the coaches most definitely are probably one of the one of the reasons I chose it and you know football they offered me football and basketball and that's something I couldn't give up you know and I mean just choosing one might you know limit myself and I feel like choosing both is a great Co for me how hard is it to tell those other coaches especially the ones you form relationships with sorry I'm not going to be coming here I'm going to be doing this I'm making a different decision it's it's really hard and um I just I'm grateful grateful for them all I mean they're really amazing and um I mean I'm just more more more grateful done anything for them to you know reach out and see see a future with me so I mean I do feel bad about not choosing their schools but I mean I got to choose the decision best for me and I mean they the schools were great they offered great things and I just feel like this is the best for me so in each sport in football and basketball what are the positions that they're they say they see you at u basketball it's up in the air now you know we'll figure out things when I get there so and football um they really see me as a as a great uh wide receiver in the future so what's this whole process been like and how much of a relief is it that this part of it you know will be in the the rby mirr or you can kind of move ahead then um the process it's been great I mean they've been recruiting me really hard for the past couple months especially um really pushing that football apart um tremendously so I mean it's been it's been amazing with you know how hard they've recruited me and I can't be you know like I said I can't be more grateful for this opportunity because this to real thing I mean I've dreamed about this since I was a kid but play both is just it's crazy to me and I can't be more grateful so and uh is there any sense of relief that that the decision is made yeah I mean I feel like there's you know a huge weight off my back of you know figuring everything out because it's it's a big decision it's a big tough decision in my life so I mean and I'm I'm more than happy to uh be a Bronco so any uh thoughts on Final thoughts on anyone you want to thank or any I know you don't want to leave anyone out either but any other thoughts you might have just on this whole thing I mean I can't I can't think my mom anymore she's helped me throughout this whole thing she's you know really helped me dig deep and figure out what I need for myself um my whole life really and I also want to thank my basketball coach uh Christian sub and uh Shephard and my football coach Sig I mean they they' really expressed themselves you know they didn't care if I chose the other sport over which one they just wanted me to be happy and wanted me to you know choose what I wanted to do so I mean and there's so much more people in my life that have influenced me and really helped me towards this decision
