I always thought I was going to be the best player in the world I always thought I was special this time the third time's a charm and Rory mroy wins the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup power and [Music] precision oh it's got to go I think it's online oh my marvelous ball [Music] striking look at the people out there yep they always show out for this event they really do it's a real Community event ho do it do it do it hey Mastery of the short game on that little up slope you mentioned Nick and maybe yes [Music] oh no way bunker to Bunker this is [Music] impossible anything possible and a putting wizard possibly EV made from this part could it 25 ft of break played here by Rory maroy and that Roar just about blew out my right ear these are the facets where mroy shines brightest every top golfer has their days of Glory but Rory's enduring Excellence from his prime to the present places him among the pga's elite record of seven can it be yes the new ruler but the game of golf is Rory maoy while he may not Ascend to the legendary status of Tiger Woods Rory's Journey has been nothing short of remarkable yet his path to success has been marked by challenges uhoh ooh there goes that one a testament to his human nature and a stark reminder that he wasn't always dominating with colossal drives on that box Billy no it all depends on the kick oh my God out Shane Lowry this could break that record he hit it over 400 yard today that's got to be his neighborhood no that's 400 that's 400 easy despite his Feats Rory like us all entered this world as a mere mortal on May 4th 1989 to Rosie McDonald and Jerry maroy growing up in Hollywood countyd down Northern Ireland Rory Daniel Mary's passion for golf ignited at a young age unnecessary by age two Rory was launching 40 yard drives and by 9 he notched his first hole in one every day he pleaded with his father to visit the iconic Hollywood Golf Club where he became its youngest member at just seven oh I've got lots of early memories of Rory I've got my best memory was I'm probably the only CES ever sacked many years ago when I was Belfast and the Cup captain and I brought a five iron up wanted to te down pck and he want a driver and he said to me what's that and me it's a five iron Ro five iron wge no I want H the driver and we had a bit of a stand up 2 3 years of age and the mixed Lounge in there hitting the plastic club with a plastic ball had from there into the restaurant you know so yeah we' use a special talent he was supported by his devoted parents who work tirelessly to make their son's dream a reality my mom worked night shifts at a local Factory and my dad at one stage was taking on three jobs during the day to support the family but but also support these trips that we were taking to the United States for me to play in golf tournaments oh at that point I didn't realize the sacrifices or how much hard work they were putting into it Rory's Relentless dedication paid dividends when at age N9 he clinched victory at the 1998 Doro Jr under 10 world championship in Miami would you please welcome from Hollywood the world under 10 golf champion Rory mroy [Applause] [Music] Rory's Talent transcended even Tiger Woods early achievements returning a better score for the championship than Woods in the same event a decade before setting the stage for a legendary career under the mentorship of Michael Bannon they came into the Pro Shop one day with Ro's clubs and I said Michael would you put a grip on and they a way up over his waist so I took the club I put it in the vice and I chopped about 4 Ines of it and Jerry was in shock and I put a small grip on it and I handed it back to him and he said what are you doing I says Jerry the clubs are far too long for him and I looked at he says Michel that's fine I'll hand him over to you that's great you know at that moment he sort of said like okay you can take care of him at 15 Rory represented Europe in the 2004 Junior Ridder cup triumphing over the United States on foreign soil in 2005 he set a new call course record of 61 at Royal Port Rush Golf Club solidifying his Rising Star status words started to come in that that something was happening out there that there was that he was uh going deeper and deeper under par when I got there like eight under um standing on the 16th T and was sort of you know saying right try and just par my way in but um had a nice t- shot off 16 hit a nice shot in and then held the put and I knew that 17 was going to be a pretty easy ready as well so I got to the 10 under that and I was just trying to par the last and luckily enough the final put went in the next year Rory clinched the European amateur title at beella golf club opting out of college golf to pursue his amateur career no I think you know I played really well this week and obviously carity next year it's going to be it's going to be awesome so feels really special at the minute the decision paid off in 2007 when he topped the world Amateur Golf Ranking making an impressive debut at the 200 7 Open Championship shooting a bogey free opening round of three under par oh beautiful shot this is Rory Michael this for birdie he's got it he's got it Irishman couple under now definitely a star of the future I think for Cher 18 years old feis sweet birdies not a dropped stroke the only person so far today to have gone round the course without dropping a shot excellent play he finished at 5 over par and was the highest finishing amateur winning the silver medal Rory's Talent was undeniable setting the stage for a professional career which began on September 18th 2007 he's just turned Pro and you're going to be hearing a lot about him over the next few years his name Rory mroy in 2008 Rory showcased his potential with six top 10 finishes on the European tour climbing to 79th in the world golf rankings at just 19 years of age he a suicide chot he's going with a gap wedge to hook it around I can't stop it on the Green Oh over the water bending right to left I believe what I'm seeing is that better than lind's before Oh equally as good but finally the Breakthrough arrived in 2009 at the Dubai Desert [Music] Classic clinching his Maiden victory in a wire to wire triumph over Justin Rose he's got my goodness he gave us some drama along the way but Ry meloy is a winner of the European T Rory's Stellar play continued with notable performances in Majors including a 10th Place finish at the US Open hey here hey boy wizard drops it in at University of Washington mroy shot on the way his coach Matt Thurman one coach of the yearout W and that was pretty impressive good friend of Rory mckoy at 14 for birdie playing The Big Break he likes it he's not even raising up that's a Rory Roar and a tied third finish at the PGA Championship and an absolute gem with his second shot up in the cabbage down and oh and in oh circles the cup to join Westwood in the clubhouse at 300 boosting him to ninth in the World Golf Ranking at just 20 years old as Rory transitioned into 2010 he secured his inaugural PGA Tour victory at the Quail Hollow Championship setting a course record with a stellar final round score of 62 here in Charlotte North Carolina the Quail Hollow Championship it was a historic day as 20-year-old Rory mroy just two days shy of his 21st birthday shot a course record 62 exploding on the scene and winning by four shots he's the youngest player to win on tour since Tiger Woods what an incredible tournament and finish for young Roy m l Rory H you know there are wins and then there are whatever that was six threes to finish on maybe the toughest finish on tour what was that I don't know um you know I suppose I probably just got into the zone and you I I didn't realize that I was going 8 9 10 under par I just knew that I got my nose in front and I was just trying to stay there just 2 months later he embarked on a remarkable Journey at the Open Championship at the legendary old course at St Andrews his opening round of nine under not only tied the course record but also set a new Benchmark for the lowest first round score in the championship's 150-e history the day belonged to one of the new generation Rory mroy was at his flowing best it all looked so easy for the young Superstar defying the road hold's reputation his play earned him a place in the history books as he tied the record low score at an open and in all of major championship golf a stunning 9 underpass 63 despite this phenomenal start his quest for victory saw him settling for third place in the major championship in that same year he made his debut at the Ryder Cup an event close to his heart it is by far the best experience in golf and I hope little boys and girls watching this today aspire to play in this this event or the Sim cup because there's nothing better than being a part of a team with an impressive score of 211 in his matches he played a pivotal role in Europe's Victory Oh What A P by Rory mroy where 2010 marked a year of Triumph 2011 was characterized by both great collapses and Bittersweet victories during the 2011 master Mel Roy ignited the course shooting a bogey free seven underpar in the first round becoming at the time the youngest golfer to lead the tournament after the opening day he's been in the lead since day one and Rory melroy is poised to go wire to wire to win the Master's Green Jacket young Irishman showed all the unflappability of an experienced golfer biting his time in the third round at Augusta National until he reeled off three birdies over five holes coming home he finished with a two under 70 for a four-shot lead feels nice it feels good um you know I'm I'm not getting ahead of myself I know how leads can dwindle away very quickly despite maintaining a commanding four-shot lead going into the final round the young mroy struggled on the last day enduring one of the toughest performances of his career back to 10 and the thirdy easy better be careful left left again oh my goodness he's that could be mckoy's fourth shot he's got to get up and over this little tree and that hit it his final round score of 80 tied him for 15th Place marking what is widely regarded as the greatest collapse of his career a moment that still haunts him to this day as he continues to pursue the elusive Green Jacket however melroy demonstrated remarkable resilience when he arrived at the Congressional Country Club for the 2011 US Open maoy last uh a few moments here at Congressional maroy playing beautifully and here he is yeah his second shot at the fourth Chris the Par Four playing a short iron and how about this utilizing the slope behind the hole to the ball all the way back a scintillating start with a 6 under 65 propelled him into the lead still great round of go 6 under 65 for Rory mroy round one here at Congressional followed by a composed 66 to maintain his dominance after 36 holes so tap in birdie from mooy to 12 under par on day two his lead is nine by the end of the tournament his eight shot Victory and score of 16 under for a 72 hole aggregate score of 268 not only secured his first US Open title but was a US Open record at the time another US Open Champion for Northern Ireland an unreal performance from Lor maoy the 2011 United States open Champion he also became the youngest player to win the championship since the legendary Bobby Jones in 1923 after a roller coaster 2011 season Rory entered 2012 with an unwavering determination be good it looks in good in the air if it's long enough oh very nice how about that his Triumph at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens Florida catapulted him to the top spot in the world golf rankings at just 22 years old never missed a part inside 10 ft today and maoy has finally realized his dream he ascended to the top of the world you know to be able to call yourself uh the number one player in the world is is something that probably won't sink in for a little while but uh you know it's it's a great achievement and I'm I'm very honored then he found himself leading the field at the 2012 PGA Championship by three Strokes in the final round would go on to win you'd be the youngest winner of the PGA Championship in the modern era [Music] melroy clinched the victory with an incredible 66 to close winning by eight Strokes a record that had stood since the great Jack Nicholas won the tournament by seven strokes in 1980 to break Nicholas's record of seven can it be yes the new ruler of the game of golf is Rory maoy he picked up two more wins that year won at the deuts bank Championship Rory maroy survives to win the second leg of the PGA Tour playoffs for the FedEx Cup and another at the BMW Rory mooy is your 2012 BMW Champion he's going to try to make it three in a row to end it out at East Lake marking his fourth win of the year he also was the PGA money leader and awarded the PGA Player of the Year melroy's Stellar season continued with his inval able contribution to Europe's victory over the US in the 2012 Ryder Cup going three and two in his matches keep going very quick oh this is magnificent absolutely magnificent don't go in don't go in what a shot what a shot from maroy unfortunately all the success of the 2012 year wasn't replicated in 2013 where mroy only carded one win on the PGA tour at the 2013 Emirates Australian Open winning on the 72nd hole Rory mroy who' been winless up until this moment he is now the 2013 emirat Australian Open Champion however the next year Rory had remarkable success beginning at the 2014 Open Championship held at Royal Liverpool yes yes yes first I told his there this for a closing Eagle looks good with only one blemish in the first 36 holes he proceeded to secure Victory by a margin of Two Shots and it's a birdie opportunity for maroy should go a little left should go left should go oh yes he needed that just at the right time for maroy the [Applause] champion this marked his third different major victory following his wins at the US Open and PGA Championship leaving him just one Master's win short of completing the career Grand Slam at the tender age of 25 GL Glory GL Glory GL later that same year he added another major victory to his illustrious career by winning the PGA Championship for a second time edging out golfing heavyweights Phil Mickelson and Ricky Fowler in a thrilling final round [Music] [Applause] and we have a shining star at Sunset rotary continues his run to Greatness despite his early career successes Rory was on the brink of a major slump the ball wasn't the only thing that went in the water check this out the club as well world number one Rory maroy had this putt for par at the part 31 12 played it outside the hall was pretty surprised there and then for Bogi and it breaks left on that one so you think well okay this is for a double here but nope that is four putts literally his ability to close the deal in major championships became non-existent sure he continued to dominate on the PGA tour claiming victory at the 2016 TOUR Championship with a sensational Eagle hole out during a playoff watch this no way Rory mroy will have his third opportunity to win the Tour Championship in the FedEx Cup from 14 1/2 ft and he steps right in and this time the third time's a charm and Rory mroy wins the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup furthermore Rory clinched yet another TOUR Championship victory in 2019 what a round what a weak Rory mroy for the second time is the FedEx Cup champion while earning the prestigious title of pga's player of the year he was consistently outplaying his peers during these years in all but one category major championships and it is not like he wasn't performing well in these tournaments he just couldn't break through with a win since 2014 he has finished in the top 10 of 201 1 Majors which is the most of any player throughout that span and the only player to do that and not win since the very first Masters in 1934 for comparison the next player on that list is Brooks Kea with 17 top 10 finishes in that same time span and he ended up with five major championship victories to show for it Rory zero despite being so close on so many occasions in the 2018 Masters tournament he was in the final pairing with Patrick Reed only three shots back and now M Roy steps on to the T wow Bo it's going off sideways absolutely sideways but would c a four over par 74 and M he did not have the luxury of another bogey but that's what will happen finishing in fifth place just missing out on that elusive fifth major and career Grand Slam he's finished fourth 10th 7th and fifth been in a neighborhood but not able to get all the way there yet in the midst of the final 18 holes at the 2021 US Open Rory found himself tied for the [Music] lead boy yeah I like it when Rory's cutting out wedge there David however a double bogey on the 12th hole dashed his hopes of clinching the title just Dro one shot as mooy at 12 nope that's right that'll be A6 more recently at the 2024 US Open Rory found himself with a two-shot lead is to go two [Music] up and Rory M leads by two but perhaps nerves derailed Rory's chance at a fifth major carrying some Pace needs to get down as he went onto bogy three of the last four holes of the tournament including two misses from inside 4 feet one coming on the 18th hole however his pot on hole 16 is regarded as the one that did him in with a Miss measuring at only 2' 6 in it was his first Miss inside of 3 ft the entire season he was 496 for 496 on these length putts before this Miss ultimately losing the championship by a single stroke [Applause] throughout his career Rory has found himself within Striking Distance of the lead entering the final round of a major on at least seven occasions since 2018 alone however it seems that the final round has been a persistent challenge for him more specifically his final round putting performance takes a hit with an average of two additional putts per round during final rounds in major championships compared to the preceding round rounds just out on the right side furthermore his scrambling percentage sees a significant dip of nearly 10% on Sundays a decent shot maoy a lot of work left to only drop one over the past two seasons this trend has Amplified with Rory averaging 0.64 Strokes gained putting in rounds 1 through three then dropping to a mere 0.27 Strokes gained putting in the final round resulting in a drop of one whole stroke in his scoring average on Final rounds compared to the first three to sum it up over the past N9 years it's arguably been easier to secure a major championship Victory than to replicate Rory melroy's repeated near misses misery is over it's ended with a triple with an impressive tally of 26 PGA Tour wins to his name he undeniably possesses the skill to close out tournaments a striking example of this was his remarkable comeback at the 2022 TOUR Championship where he overcame a six- shot deficit to chase down Scotty Sheffer and secure his third career TOUR Championship win and he's going to do it so you're 20122 FedEx Cup champion Rory mroy considering his success outside of Majors it remains baffling that Michael Roy's most recent major victory dates back almost a decade for mroy the question remains can he conquer his final round struggles in Mages and once again Ascend to Greatness perhaps even donning the illustrious Green Jacket completing his career Grand Slam only time will tell what lies
