Jennifer Youngblood on Learning to Write: Bridging Literary and Romance Genres - Part 3

[Music] I actually um majored in English in college and I had just read and read and read and I didn't realize at the time I just loved to read I didn't realize that that was kind of a tutorial for me for how to write because you know every every book is really a blueprint for how to write and I grew up reading um especially a lot of the classics and just devouring everything I could get my hands on I started out very literary and that is my passion yeah I love to read works of literature and so but know that it can be a very narrow audience because our attention spans are not you know no one wants to sit through a three or 400 page book that's got all these metaphors and similar some people do but but most most people want good entertainment right and I fall into that too like sometimes I just want a book that I just want to lose myself in and be entertained and so I feel like that with me doing this as a career I did have to to change a little bit my perspective but like I said I think a few years ago uh there was a turning point where I felt like I came full circle because I felt like I learned the the market and I learned the genre and the expectations and then I felt like I could put me into it and so I feel like I've kind of been able to to bridge the two and that's a very fulfilling thing I've been very excited to be able to do that that's great because you're a fantastic literary author I think I love your early works that are more literary they're more I like them they're meaty you know so I really like them I like the new ones too but I just wanted to say you are very talented in that so I'm glad you're able to kind of blend the two together thank you
