WooSox' Eddy Alvarez Reflects on Season, Fatherhood as a Professional Baseball Player

Alvarez held it 30 he slips before heading into third base he may have hurt himself the concern now is with Alvarez I didn't quite realize how much feet are utilized in this sport until it's taken away from you just a few Innings into Eddie Alvarez's debut with the Worcester Red Sox in July of 2023 the infielder suffered a season-ending injury while running the bases Alvarez broke a bone on the inside of his foot he would have to sit out the rest of the year only making his return to the field in 2024 you know obviously it wasn't quite the start that I was expecting for myself but then again you know it's important to take a step back and kind of realize what I've gone through to get to this point in time or this moment it took a year of physical therapy after surgery that replaced the broken bone in his foot with Hardware that Alvarez still plays through today I've come to realize that my dreams are worth the pain and my journey has been the reward he credits the training staff coaches and teammates for helping him make his return it's been a a fun process to get back to what I feel is like me again Alvarez sends it high and deep towards right center field back towards the wall and this ball is gone at the track to the wall and no one will get it another home run looks up and that Ball's gone Eddie Alvarez but two hit high and deep to right field by Alvarez and that baby is long gone on way back it goes and Eddie Alvarez will have number two into the second row and he lets us know and carried and carried and it carried on out of here for Alvarez sharing the most important lesson he's learned is not trying too hard after feeling Tangled Up in the analytical side of his game early 2024 he took a different approach which is paid off he uses his experience to help teach others on the team and has even developed into a mentorship role uh there's a lot of traditions and and things that need to be kept within a clubhouse and usually the veteran guys bring that that to the table uh cuz I remember when I was in Triple A for the first time you have to play it a certain way you have to respect it a certain way but you have to have fun I brought a lot of traditions over to the side and and take care of the young guys like I was taken care of once the young man on the team aren't the only young men in Eddie's life Head Shoulders head [Music] knes to see my son know what Daddy does we're going to go play baseball and sit in the on the couch in the cage and watch the GU head and like that's to me that's a dream of mine and it's being accomplished right now and he hopes it leaves a lasting impression I'm still juggling being a dad of two uh being away from them my wife being home alone uh uh it's it's it's hard uh but I know what I'm doing is for a purpose and and the purpose is to set an example uh cuz there's nothing more than I want them for my kids to to remember daddy playing baseball
