REACTION to Justin Fields in Steelers' Week 1 win: 'Not great, but could be worse' 🤷‍♂️ | Get Up

we're back on get up into Pittsburgh we go next the Steelers continue to face a quarterback dilemma after their win over the Falcons Russell Wilson sideline with the Cav Justin field stepped up he was pretty good his performance sparking more debate over who should start moving forward we will hear from Mike Tomlin today about his quarterback situation he said you can ask me that on Tuesday well today is Tuesday so for now you know we saw What fields did and here were the numbers in his debut 52% you see with the passes that were the short throws three for four on the throws that are 10 yards or more Dan Graziano you were there covering the game give us the perspective from what you saw I was on the sideline the whole game and I almost got hit with almost every Justin Fields pass CU they didn't throw it over the middle of the field one time they were deter look Arthur Smith is the Steelers offensive coordinator he knows the Falcons defense he was their head coach last year uh so he was like let's keep it away from Jesse Bates and the troublemakers in the middle of the field so Justin fields did what they needed him to do uh obviously he'd rather finish drives with touch downs and six field goals uh and I think they feel like Fields is still a guy that they have work to do on right like like he's still the idea was to bring Russell Wilson in start him he gives you the best chance to win and then work on fields as a longer term project but obviously then Wilson hurts his calf hurts his calf again and here we are so I I think when Russell Wilson's calf is healthy they will go back to him uh whether that's this week when they're playing in Denver by the way which I'm sure Russell would love to do right um we remains to be seen we'll know more today yeah two two things went really well for the Steelers one they saw Kirk Cousins was going to be a spot on the field and they have two of the best pass rush on the edge just mauling people right so you can play a very conservative offensive game I think they ran it 41 times like that's a that's that's not that's not a formula most NFL teams go in thinking you're going to win a game run at 41 times unless you're just going to completely dominate everyone so Fields played well enough to win they will go back to Wilson and let let Fields continue to develop I think Fields is their future I think Wilson is their present as soon as he's healthy he'll be back as their starter Dominique if Russell Wilson is healthy enough to play on Sunday which quarterback would you start in Denver yeah I'd stick with Justin Fields like I I think he had something to build on it wasn't great it wasn't awesome honestly I think I would let TJ Watt play quarterback good gra he's the best football player they got doubt do whatever he wants goodness gracious like neither Russell or feels uh inspiring at all right now for this team but feels managed and I think the ceiling is higher for him the problem with Russell is he's a low ceiling in a low floor at least Fields has a low floor in a high ceil what do you think he would I mean I would I would stick with uh for with Justin Fields because listen first of all I thought he did a good job of managing the game The Deep Pittsburgh's defense was playing lights out but like like like Dominic said like Russ Russell wils let me say this older older older players don't get healthier this injury is going to linger Russell WIS already is a diminished athlete what what upside is going to bring in the passing game it's going to be minimal if you look at both of their stats they're almost identical if you think about for the past past few years so okay hold on up hold on I understand the stat comparison also understand Russell Wilson has won a lot of games in the NFL we know at this table it's not always about stats it's about guys knowing how to find ways to win Russell Wilson has done that he's one he has been in big moments you don't think it's an advantage to watch a guy do I'm not I'm not taking away from their defense I'm not saying that but you and I both know the way that you have won a lot of games unfortunately that hasn't and I love Fields look he's from Atlanta I I backed him on the draft all of those things but Russell Wilson in my opinion still gives you a better chance to win week in and week out until Fields continues to develop I mean pton Manning too why don't you suit him up there's a there's a time when it passes You by yeah let's go get here's the thing Terry Bradshaw Listen to I love Terry BR if I were to push back against what you were saying if indeed Russell Wilson is healthy enough to play it would be that Russell Wilson was always a guy who had a lot of big moments but was never he was not Drew Brees I mean people we now talk about him like well they're choosing between Drew Brees and this young athletic guy he was never that he made athletic plays he threw deep balls he was sort of Boom or bust well now that that you're now choosing you're we are acting like he is the grizzled veteran yes he's won a lot of games but if he can't make those spectacular plays anymore because of age injury or whatever the fact is that I'm not 100% sure he's the alternative to Justin fields that is being painted to be it's almost as if they didn't solve their quarterback problem in this off season in spite of the moves they made well we'll see oh they they I want to do a whole Tom has want do like a whole set duck Told You sock duck Hodes Mason Rudolph they're they're ignoring me Dan told you so and the lead is going to be Dak Prescott got a contract the bottom line of it is this there was only they are alone in first place in the AFC North after one weekend everybody else lost and they won so things may not look great but they could look a whole lot worse [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
