Kyle bus remains optimistic about securing his place in the Nascar Cup series playoffs on the last weekend of the regular season at the southern 500 the two-time Cup Series champion narrowly missed out on an automatic playoff birth again after running second in the Koke 0400 at Daytona with surprise Victor 23-year-old Harrison Burton of Wood Brothers Racing taking the checkered flag anything less than a victory at Darlington Raceway would see bush Miss out on the playoffs yeah I mean we want to Bush said when asked if he wants to win next weekend's race we ran good there the first time I ran with these guys early last year but early this year we struggled mightily we'll just have to go with hopefully a really good package that works get our job done bush is hoping that next week hopefully at win and a playoff spot will not be thanks to luck the 39-year-old admitted second was fortunate for himself and his team on Saturday just finished second it's all good we were really really really lucky tonight to miss a few of them crashes he said all good just real proud of everybody Randall all the guys at RCR ACR did a great job brought a fast car was hoping we could get those three number eight specials on Monday get some chicken tenders rolling but wasn't meant to be we'll take this got a good little stretch going with these last 3 weeks and he'll hope we can do what we need to do next week before his win the Wood Brothers were already parting ways with Burton at the conclusion of the 20124 Season that decision added to Burton's emotions on his Victory lap I don't know I cried the whole Victory lap said an exasperated Burton obviously got fired from this job I wanted to do everything I could for the Wood Brothers they've given me an amazing opportunity and Life to get them 100 wins on my way out it's amazing we're in the playoffs now he then added it's amazing it's been the hardest three years of my life obviously the hardest three years for some of these guys' lives to win in the way we just did to beat the best in the business Kyle Bush across the line it's pretty fantastic it was the first time in seven years that the Wood Brothers which have competed in NASCAR since 1953 have visited Victory Lane the last time was at Pocono in 2017
