yes bright and sunny here at Turf Moore and as you say deadline day outgoings and signings are plenty for both Burnley and Blackburn ahead of what is going to be the 105th competitive meeting between the East Lancer Rivals Burnley give debuts to Jaden Anthony and Josh Lauren there are league and home debuts for Hannibal and Joe warl who both played in The League Cup at wolves in midweek Luca Koso is back from injury as part of five changes from the league defeat away at sundland another new signing Jeremy samento is among the subs so much change at Turf Moore this summer with around 20 players having departed Burnley but it is still a squad that feels capable very much so of challenging at the top end of the table it's Trafford in goal Roberts EST and Lucas Perez lauron in the holding role kioo Brown Hill Hannibal and Anthony behind Foster up front for Blackburn there's a debut for Liverpool loany Owen Beck as part of three changes from the league win over Oxford new signings to Baker and K ad dubri are on the bench Todd canwell hasn't made the squad Harry Pickering as expected is out injured as Blackburn defend what has been an unbeaten start to the championship season so far they and Blackburn Defender Mickey Gray how are you Mickey Chris I'm very well thank you how are you yeah really well really looking forward to both games we're bringing to you live on talk sport this afternoon just to reflect on the team news it's interesting that the two bosses have lined up differently having made big signings this week Burnley looked to have thrown them all in under Scott Parker and Blackburn holding them all back what's your take on that I think it's probably down to the start that Blackburn have made under John eustus this season uh may be a bit of a surprise to everybody when you lose the goals of Samy smodic they're wondering where they were going to come from they've certainly done all right the returns been pretty good so far and there was one interesting one I didn't know if it was going to be ohashi up front or MTAR gay today but I think he's gone for the more physical side of things because of it being the East LAN derby um he's got that physical presence but Owen Beck has to come in because of the injury of Pickin but other than that I think the players that are in that starting 11 they performed really well so far this season yeah M tar with two goals and two assists in his last four appearances for Blackburn just a quick one on Scott Parker he's put Jaden Anthony in for his uh debut only signed this week Josh Lauren the same only signed yesterday and then home debuts for Hannibal and for Joe warl at the back does that suggest that the last week with those two defeats has panicked him a little bit well possibly um I think we've all seen the size of Burnley Squad but I think me and Joel just before we came on out we're talking about the players that have left the club it's down to this new fresh Burnley Squad if you like to to push towards the top of the Premier League because I think after we'd all seen them against Luton we were all talking about how many points Burnley were going to get how many over a 100 you know can they break the record but they go to sundland they get a bit of a thumping there I know the score was only 1 n but by all accounts Sun played very well in that game and as you mentioned there you know The Knockout from wolves so yeah he's still looking and searching for his best 11 then the player that you mentioned Jaden Anthony I mean I saw him score an absolute worldy at Plymouth last season in a in a cup game and I think that's what Scott Parker will be hoping that he can get from him week in week out yeah he played 31 times for leads last season but only two of them were starts so he will feel like he's got a point to prove at this level as well Jaden Anthony promoted under Parker in their time at bom yeah no absolutely I mean you know some of the players that have come into that starting 11 as well Hannibal you know you think you know young man of course but brings experience know he's played at Manchester United he knows what it's like to play at a top club he want to try and bring something different to this starting 11 Joe warl brings huge experience at the back alongside of stev I think they'll be really solid Burnley there's no doubt they're going to be difficult to beat home their home record if you take away the Premier League over the last 40 games is absolutely fantastic I think they've lost 1 in 37 so they'll expect to win football matches here and I think the crowd will expect as well and this is going to be a really hostile uh atmosphere here today Chris there's no question of that the players have got to be ready for it yeah they certainly will be Joe it's an interesting one isn't it that the fact that for Hannibal home debut for Joe warl home debut for Anthony and Lauren it's their debut and they're going into that hostile atmosphere that Mickey talks about they don't come much more hostile in that part of Lanier you're absolutely right Chris it's a fascinating rivalry this they don't meet all that often not in recent times that's partly of course because Burnley been yo-yoing between the championship and the Premier League though they really do have a a vice likee grip on this fixture in recent times today they can become the first team to win seven straight East Lancashire Derbies the record run in competitive matches is six that's the current run that burle put together and the other uh run of six victories in a row in this fixture it was by Blackburn Rovers right at the very start of this rivalry in the late 1880s so it's an absolutely extraordinary and Rich history that this fixture has just on the players that you you mentioned there though for Burnley here ahead of this game Chris I mean you look at the experience certainly of three of the four and of course Hannibal has got experience in the championship he's played for Birmingham city he's been out on loan at as severe when was at Manchester United as well but Joe warl Josh Lauren both former Club captains and Jaden Anthony who's got plenty of Premier League experience got parkano in well from their time together at Bournemouth you you you do feel it if you were going to throw any set of debutants or home debutants in they would certainly be three of the four with the experience that they've got at this level and of playing in big games they don't seem like the types warl Lauren and Anthony in particular to be overall by a situation like this yeah and they're playing under a manager who's got a perfect record of promotion from the championship Mickey how realistic and expectation is it with all of the outgoings and incomings for Scott Parker to get Burnley straight back up well yeah you have to throw in his his track record Fulham and Bournemouth Etc of what he's done and what he's achieved and I'm sure when they had the conversation of who was going to be the next manager at this club that was really important to them Scott Parker knows how to get out of this division he knows what type of player you need to get out of this Division and as I mentioned before you know that luten performance was absolutely outstanding but that's what the Burnley supporters want to expect every single week the experience they brought in Chris is is abs absolutely huge there's no doubt about it and it will help them out throughout the whole of the season if they can keep this squad fit because they've got some talent in those forward areas as well I mean some of the players that are not even in the squad today you know it's a strong Squad and I think whoever comes up against Burnley know that they're going to be in for a tough game yeah they certainly will be let's hear from the boss then Scott Parker we've been talking about the transfers Burnley have seen more than 20 players leave the club in the transfer window which of course closed late last night Parker doesn't know why the window doesn't shut before the season starts I don't really understand the Dynamics of the transfer window in that sense how you you leave it open three four games into a season preseason takes place you have six to eight weeks with a group of players and again I'm not referencing myself I'm referencing every manager out there you put in work you you do a lot of detailed work to the team you want to be in terms of that and within two three weeks going into the season that can drastically change and that's probably what's happened here a little bit you're working with players and working on things and obviously then players leave the club like many other teams as well so I don't think it's ideal I don't really understand it either we have the best part of a summer window which is long enough as as it is so um but it is what it is and they're the rules so we work with them rules and we understand them rules and understand that sometimes it it goes go goes against you in certain ways and and it comes for you in certain ways well there you go it's nothing new managers complaining about the transfer deadline when the window shuts and should it be before the season begins or but the one thing I noticed is that there is a rule that says any player signed after midday on Deadline day yesterday when the deadline day is a Friday can't play in a Saturday game logistically that seems to me to be absolutely crazy Mickey because ultimately all these teams are going out there to strengthen but we know that this fixture falling on a Saturday after a Friday deadline they will not be at their full strength yeah it's a little bizarre isn't it and also you could put into the mix and after this weekend's games is an international break so the players are going to be here for two maybe 3 weeks before they actually make the debut for the new club I understand what Scott's saying about this transfer window and I I think a lot of people agree with that Chris where I think the window should be closed before the season starts but you know we we're competing with European transfer uh Windows as well aren't we and obviously the Saudi league as well now so I think that's why they've tried to keep it open as long as he possibly can and look Scott might be complaining about it but he's still he was still out there doing a little bit of business himself yesterday wasn't he so you know you can complain one day but it certainly worked for him on another yeah and especially with players that they still needed to offload Val VOR only left this week it was pretty clear that he was not going to be playing championship football for the entirety of the season for now jents we'll take a quick rivalries in football but why so well here's a Burnley fan Natalie Bromley and a Blackburn fan Robert Hayne to explain all football rivalry is the heart of every single fan love it's geographical they are the next door town to us it's literally just down the motorway but we're also both founder members of the football league so this rivalry has gone on for a very long time quite arrogant it's like a town rivalry but we are very similar so there's not that many characteristics I dislike cuz you see a lot of similar characteristics but the very tired though that's definitely another one tiest people you ever meet from over that way what does the Rival mean to me as a Burnley fan everything has to have an extra level for fans to engage in it and to really feel the passion and to have a game and a result that you can really care about more than any other and that is football rivalry and that's why it's so important growing up didn't think much of them like didn't really care or W really interested more interesting RS more recent years obviously they've probably been on top the last decade and I'm absolutely desperate to beat them beat them on Saturday I think it's like 10 years or 11 years since I scored a goal against them so I take a one one draw and just a goal that means something on Saturday just to get that feeling of celebrating against them again watching your arch rival struggle is a conflicting emotion because on one hand you always want to be better than them you always want to beat them and you can take some element of pleasure in watching their fans crying at bad results but it can only go so far taking away the fact that it's Burnley it's a very sad State of Affairs for English football for a team that has dominated the championship last year won a league quite early even lost games on purpose so they could win the league of Ewood last season for them to go up spend over 100 million and still come down at the first try a bit sad for football really like highlighting that gap between the championship and the Premiership I've always looked at Blackburn with an element of caution when times have been tough because the last thing that I ever want is for them to disappear I don't want them to go out of business I don't want them to fall out of the league I always want my local rival to be in existence and competing against us because that's the nature of a rivalry I enjoy watching them get relegated but just the fact that they did so well last season spent so much money and still came down it's a bit scary for other Championship clubs expectations from Saturday's game Blackman have started much stronger than we have they have not lost a game yet they're above us in the league and they have at the moment greater depth on the bench than we have um I'm nervous and I think rightly so first big tackle and booking will light the place up the atmosphere will take a few of the players especially few of the new Lads that might not have played in it yet we play in atmosphere like it I think it'll shock quite a few of them it's going to be a big test it will be a test as to whether or not Burnley will maintain its status as being the strongest and best club in Lancashire um but I'm actually expecting a much more even game than I think we could have asked for two weeks ago what's more important beating rivals or getting in the playoffs this season beating B definitely beating Rivals versus ging promotion I think if you looked at this at the end of the season season and the reality was you're back in the Premier League or you've won the title it's automatic promotion but you lost the East lengths dby on the way then I think I would probably have to take that it's very very close but I think I'd have to take promotion to kickoff at Turf Moore we've covered off Burnley Blackburn themselves had a lively old deadline day yesterday including signing Todd campwell from Rangers Mickey Gray is John Eustace the manager to finally unlock all of that potential well well I I I believe look he's a talented player Chris there's no doubt about that um I think when he broke onto the scene at Norwich um everybody thought he was going to go to the very top um for one reason or another over the last three or four seasons he's kind of been here there everywhere I believe he's he's not got the greatest of attitudes away from football so that's certainly what manages when they bring him into a club have got to try and fix if they can fix that with somebody like to campwell you've got a really talented player on your hands you know if he plays in those Advanced positions if you like he can see a pass he can certainly score a goal we know that from his time at Norwich and from Rangers as well but I think at times in his in his career he just seems to switch off for a month maybe a couple of months and and kind of loses his way a little bit if they can sort his attitude out they've got a very good player on their hands yeah I mean there was once a time Mickey I remember sitting in a pub having a debate with a mate who would achieve more Jack greish or Todd canwell that was how much potential he had at the time and at the moment well there's only one winner in that debate let's have little look at how Blackburn have been doing they made a really slow start under John Eustace when he took over in the middle of last season but since he got his first win I think it was on the 1st of April no Championship Club has won more points than Blackburn Rovers what is it that he does so well at Ewood Park yeah 18 points isn't it I think in uh in the last 10 games that he's been in charge so um look I mean that's a great return Isn't it I mean John did a brilliant job at Birmingham I think everybody was surprised when he lost his job but I think you know for one reason or another we knew why high he lost his job when he first walked into the door at Blackburn he'd lost Lewis Travis who'd been loaned out to whip switch and I think Lewis coming back to Blackburn was a Hu it's like a new signing because Lewis is he's got that physical presence about him he's a big character in the dress room and I think John was searching around to find his best 11 had to put younger players into the starting 11 but when he when he got that formula and and Samy smic to boot as well I think it just started to work for him he's a common influence um I was at the game in mid week when they lost to Blackpool but he came in the press conference at the end of the game and he just answered everything in a calm way and I think if he if he speaks the way he manages you can understand why he gets results in this league yeah unbeaten start in the championship they were knocked out of the efl Cup by Blackpool in midweek 21 unwanted but then again probably that competition is fairly unwanted for them Joe we mentioned they lost Samy smodic and all of his goals and they've looked to replace him with not just one player Yuki aashu is on the bench today and Matt targe both of them seem to have hit the ground running absolutely and actually they've spread the goals across the team so far this season haven't they Blackburn Rovers seven different scorers that's a joint high in the championship and it really does bode well I mean Samy SMX as you say was outstanding last season but when he scored nearly 40 at nearly 50% of their League goals they knew they'd have to try something different ohashi's been excellent so far two in his first two games on the bench today M tar gay has got the N he's scored twice in this first five appearances for Blackburn rers both in the league cup and I think when you look at his physicality on a daylight today 6'5 great holdup player Mickey and I was saying off air uh earlier on Chris that I think that's why he's probably been given the nod today yeah you were talking earlier about the the stats the history of the East lanks rivalry and recent history has all been Clara because Blackman have had a rotten record they haven't won since 2010 and both sides were in the Premier League how things change Mickey well I think yeah you have to bring the venis into this conversation don't you I think since they walk through the door at Blackburn rers things have just gone drastically wrong into the championship into League War had to bounce back into the championship but they look as if they're on the way up now it's been a kind of a recruitment Club over the last four or five seasons I thought Tony mbre um stabilize the football club a little bit give younger players an opportunity and got the best out of them um John knows that there's still work to be done at this club and if he gets it right it's a great Club to get it right out well that enormous Roar leveled it up Midway through the first half here at Turf Moore and after all of burnley's dominance it's Blackburn out of virtually nothing who have somehow drawn themselves level and Trafford who had a chasing experience in the Premier League last season in go for Burnley had no chance whatsoever one-1 Mickey Gray well you just have to question James Trafford as well um Joel I mean they've made a a transfer in just before the end of the window haven't they Burnley and he didn't really start the game very well did he couple of times the ball fell to his feet his clearances weren't great which is nearly where the first goal come from after 30 seconds from viman and I just wonder whether he was a little bit too far off he's look I'm taking nothing away from vman his goal was outstanding but this Championship season which of those is best equipped do you think for the long arduous Championship season to put together a push at least for the playoffs if not promotion well I think you look at Burnley Squad don't you chrisen I think everybody's probably got them as favorites to maybe go on and win this Championship they've got too much quality they've got players who've got experience in the Premier League never mind the championship so you think they'd go on some you know incredible runs this season and make it really difficult for anybody to stay with them but I've been really impressed with Blackman so far this season John eustus has record over the last 11 games if we go back into last has been very good and you know I think that what it shows today is players are on side that they're buying into what Jon's telling because when you go down to 10 men it's very difficult they've defended for their lives today and they deserve that point yeah and we should really direct people to wherever it is they see their Championship goals the Andy vman one is one not to be missed ah it's brilliant I mean it's Instinct it's a player who knows where the back of the net is I don't
