let's head down to Philadelphia where Jaylen Herz and the Eagles start to install their new offense under Kell Moore the Eagles quarterback was asked about how he's adjusting to the new play caller and had some interesting thoughts listen to this been 10 different play callers at some point over the past eight years for me and um when you don't have that it's kind of tough to learn how to talk to someone how to communicate how are they receptive how are we growing to get to the same page but um you I'm looking forward to that and I I've I've enjoyed that process with Coach Kellen I've enjoyed every bit of it just talking and how he sees the game um his his trust in my judgment and my instincts um is very important and um just going out there and playing all right so we did the research and he has in fact had 10 different play callers in the last eight seasons Kell Moore will be the 11th that Jaylen Herz has worked with since his freshman year at alab AMA in the NFL Shane styken is the only one Herz has worked with in multiple seasons and styken stint began in 2021 when Nick serani gave up play calling duties halfway through his first season as a head coach he's got a point Lindsay you spent a lot of time covering Kell Moore with the Chargers what do you think about the fit of him and Jaylen Herz so this is really interesting because Kellen Moore is a very difficult guy to figure out like he is very calm talking to reporters whether he's on the podium off the podium so I started asking players I had to write this down because I did not want to misquote Keenan Allen who told me he's a calm guy not tripping too much never seen him yell and I don't think he can get mad so needless to say he's a very calm guy look great football mind um it's just going to be really interesting to see how Kellen Moore's demeanor and Jaylen herd's demeanor like how that marriage works out uh hearing that number from Jaylen is really painful how much a turnover he's had at the position I know Jared gof had five QB coaches in five years Alex Smith had 50 season five years and those guys' careers both got exponentially better when they had some consistency there uh maybe Kell Moore is a consistent guy I me know I know his personality super consistent well and that's what Jaylen Herz can expect out of him but again that pairing it's going to take some time for that relationship to grow and them to to start to learn each other Mina what about this scheme change that's going to be happening with what Kell Moore brings to the table and how you think that fits for Jaylen herds yeah this is going to be one of the more dramatic and interesting transformations in an offensive scheme we'll see across the NFL and there's a lot of new offensive coordinators in new spots but this might be one of the most interesting to me personally uh in large part because the Eagles offense was really kind of an outlier over the last couple of years with siken and then with Brian Johnson who ran a a very similar offense super spread out lowest motion rate in the league Herz was in the gun more than any quarterback in the NFL uh very strong RPO component that that was the identity before what is the identity with Kell Moore I can tell you one thing I do anticipate and that's something you've actually already been hearing from uh training cam which is they're going to be using a lot more motion which sounds great motion gives quarterbacks information it manipulates spacing and defenses but using more motion isn't as simple as like smashing the motion button what kind of motion does it look like how does that integrate with uh having turrets in the gun as much as he is does it mean they're going to have to call fewer rpos which have been in the past how they use to gain information who is going to be put in motion will it be someone who's fast like Devonte Smith all of these are questions that Kell Moore has to figure out this summer as he rebuilds this offense I'm really intrigued by it because as we of course discussed at the end of last season this was an offense that felt like it needed to evolve yeah me it's a good point I mean you you think about the changes that that brings for those skill position players who are going to have to do it all the time and Tyreek Hill even mentioned this when he came into our studio he's running so much before he actually runs a route that he's absolutely exhausted by the time anything happens it'sing it's a lot uh pay attention to that e
