a detroit free press photographer is thrown behind bars for something many of us do regularly but one police officer thought he crossed the line yeah 7 action news reporter smitha koloki shows what happened to her it's cell phone video taken from a public street something many people do when they see an accident or even a crime scene like this you have a right to be on a public street you have a right to film a police action and that's all we were doing 47 year old detroit free press veteran photojournalist mandy wright along with a reporter stopped when they saw police cars near a credit union last thursday in detroit wright who was training the reporter on how to use the iphone camera began recording no turn it off i'm at the detroit free press i'm a journalist working journalist i don't care are you touching me the detroit free press says the police officer who allegedly was not wearing any marked gear never identified himself leading right to believe a citizen was trying to take her company issued camera within minutes wright found herself in handcuffs and under arrest just like the suspect police were after he was handcuffed he was no longer dangerous and they were putting him in a police cruiser now that's where we were filming the papers publisher who went to the police precinct that evening says wright was put in the same interrogation room as the very man she was filming a man who he says was a convicted felon trying to run from police she was put in a room with this person and as she describes it she was left alone with that person in this room for a brief period of time wright was released nearly eight hours after the initial incident and no charges have been filed when she received her iphone like this one back from police the memory card was missing it's not an easy thing to remove you have to sort of straighten out a paper clip and pry it out of there so it takes it takes quite a little bit of effort to get that card out of the phone the missing card has prompted an internal investigation by the detroit police they are reviewing this video which was also recorded on the phone's hard drive our attempts to receive comment from detroit police were unsuccessful and at this time wright is out of state on a pre-planned vacation from detroit smitha colokey 7 action news
