Late last month, Investigator David Hammer showed how a serial child molester who was once a child abuse detective moved into the Lower ninth ward without neighbors knowing it. Now they're sounding off asking that the repeat offender be kept away from their Children. Bill Crockett and his wife built a beautiful home in the lower ninth ward. We came down here from Memphis to be with my daughter and my granddaughter, help with them. Bill's daughter. Carrie is a school teacher and lives two blocks down. Her 11 year old daughter has plenty of kids to play with, loaded with Children everywhere. We got kids all up and down the street, they play in the street. You have to be careful speeding and everything else around here. Uh And they're really good neighbors. They're good people. But last month they got a new neighbor whose history isn't so good. Stanley Burkhardt, a former New Orleans police child abuse detective who turned out to be a serial child molester. He's been in and out of prison for sex offenses six times since 1987 Stanley. Is there anything you want to tell your neighbors Stanley? We want to give you one more chance to talk and explain why this is safe this time. My reporting partner, Ramon Antonio Vargas and I went to see Burkhardt at his new residence the week before last. Sounds like the TV is on. I don't think he's coming out. The neighbors told us they only learned of Burkhart's long history as a sex offender from us. None of the usual mayor, no official notice. We should have been notified and we could have filed a complaint at that time. We didn't know Burkhart was released from prison by federal judge James Dever in North Carolina. That's the same judge who in 2021 denied Burkhart's because he quote, repeatedly failed on supervised release. Well, I thought he made a good decision in 21 and then when he reversed himself, it's I thought he was an idiot, a total idiot or didn't care. I don't know which it was. The New Orleans Police Department says Burkhardt has an appointment to officially register his new address and will be required to mail out postcards at that time. Nopd did notify a daycare and preschool down the street by email on August 21st. The owner of the school says that's because she signed up last year for sex offender. Email alerts if somebody commits a crime or, or whatever and pays your debt to society. I'm ok with it. Let them start over, but that's not the case here. This is going on for years and years and it's happened six times and I have no doubt it's gonna happen again. David Hammer Wwl, Louisiana nopd explained that Burkhart properly registered his new address in the offender watch database. Now anyone can sign up to get email alerts at offender watch.com.
