welcome back to Lions Syndicate film room where we're going to be breaking down one of David Montgomery's plays from overtime one of his five runs a Monster Run I think this is the run that really decided the game and the Lions had gotten away from David Montgomery I don't know why they do this but they'll be running the ball it'll work then they'll they'll run they'll get away from it they won't even use jir but in this case we're going to talk about Monty Monty is an absolute dog and this is why we got this guy this dude he gets better as the game goes on hopefully the Lions will continue to lean on him as we go on but this is a play again it is first down and 10 the ball is at the Lions 41 early in the overtime period here's Parker has here Parker is going to start lead blocking this way most of the line is going to pull to the right Sam leaport is going to he's going to have his assignment is this individual here you see that Parker is going to when this play when this ball is sna Parker's going to cut out here all right now David mcgomery you would think that ideally he would want to follow Parker now Parker is not a fullback the Lions don't have a fullback on their roster they had one last year this guy is a converted defensive player that now plays tight end and also plays a little fullback so Parker H he he's he does an admirable job but to no avail he's going to wind up on his backside two seconds after the ball is snap maybe three David Montgomery I want you to watch what Monty does to make this play so special so again pan out there we're going to snap it Parker's going to hit the hole go to get a block but Watch What Happens he actually gets destroyed by the person Sam leapor is blocking winds up on the backside okay on his backside but watch before that watch what Monty decides to do David Montgomery has the vision to at this moment look at look at the jump cut at this moment he has made a decision nope I'm not going to follow Parker I'm going to cut it this small hole right here I'm going to grow go behind Frank ragnow Graham Glasgow this is where I'm going to go this is where the play was probably supposed to head David mcgomery decides he's going to go this way and was absolutely the best decision he could have made this was a game-changing run this in my opinion decided the entire game because as Parker winds up on his tail David look at that look at that if he follows Parker that play is blown up okay and Monty is either going to have to backtrack come back this way and try to take it around and at this point if he does that it's quite possible he doesn't even get the first down you can see I don't know who this is out here blocking but this individual is doing a pretty good job probably J Mo because we know how J Mo loves to block but out here if Parker David mcgomery goes this way he's probably that play is probably blown up but he cuts it in fits to a small window look at the daylight look at the daylight so now linebackers are tied up you got the safeties this guy here is already hemmed up but watch what happens after that again I think that this was probably the biggest run of the night Monty gonna go and check this out here's now when you try to tackle him miss one miss two misses three misses he's like and look look at pan look at pan this is classic pan is like we already know David mcgomery man still shaking tackle so that's same Brown that was St Brown out there with the tackle or with the blocking but David Montgomery again if we go back to the original moment where David decides and you can see right there Matthew and them they know it's over David Montgomery decides right there he is not going to follow Parker the vision to see this is where the blocker's going but this is where I'm going to go and this changed the entire game so instead of a minimal gain a tackle for a loss or David Montgomery having to come back around and cut it back up okay instead of Monty having to do this he winds up Monty would have had to do that and you're talking about all this space as this guy is coming up here to potentially tackle for a loss you got a minimal gain maybe he sheds I'm in ra doubt it but maybe he does but look at this guy all right if Monty goes this way it could have been this play would have turned a whole lot differently steel could have could have potentially got the first down but the gain would have not nearly been as long but the vision to cut it inside here which winds up netting them 21 yards puts them in Ram's territory and at that moment David Montgomery knew he had them and this this is why Monty is so special a battering ram with vision
