now to the situation that developed before kickoff in Miami on Sunday police yesterday released body camera footage of dolphin star receiver Tyreek Hill being pulled from his car and forced to the Drew bro then call Drew so the drew that Tyreek Hill is referring to as his agent Drew rosenhouse Tyreek Hill was on CNN last night he said that he rolled his window back up in that moment because of concern about drawing unwanted attention to himself now before the video was released the union that represents Miami Dade police officers said in a statement that Tyreek Hill was quote uncooperative one officer has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation continues meanwhile the Dolphins released a lengthy statement after the video was released we'll read you portions of it here they say we are saddened by the overly aggressive and violent conduct directed towards Tyreek Hill Kus Campbell and Janu Smith by police officers before yesterday's game it is both maddening and heartbreaking to watch the very people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility toward these players yet it is also a reminder that not every situation like this ends in peace as we are grateful this one did what if I wasn't Tyreek Hill is a question that will carry with resounding impact we are proud to have a strong and positive relationship with the Miami D police department and other law enforcement agencies and recognize that the vast majority of officers do serve the community with the utmost character and desire to protect all citizens they mentioned Kus Campbell and jnu Smith there again there were over a 100 hours of this body cam footage what you did not see there in case you've not seen it or are not aware is that those two teammates of Tyreek Hills were also on their way to the stadium and they came by at the moment and sought it and tried to deescalate the situation at one point Kus Campbell was also placed in handcuffs so I thought I would give everyone an opportunity just to comment it's obviously difficult to watch that video Dan Graziano quickly out is there any from a a news perspective is is there any reporting to be done relative to the story from a National Football League news perspective no I mean like he's not Tyreek Hill is not going to you know like there's no lingering anything the team supports him the league supports him his teammates support him uh it's just a matter of what the Miami Dade Police Department is going to do and and and you know what if any response he has to that and and the Dolphins will play on Thursday by the way at home um so they have a quick turn around not that that's what's the most relevant part of it here but it is what it is so um I guess the rest of it is just really an emot reaction to what we saw Dominique what was yours yeah I mean it's impossible for many of us to remove the context from this conversation of like the racial history in America and I mean the reason why Colin Kaepernick was kneeling because of the relationship with with police and black men in particular but I often think about who like when we're having these conversations who are there for who is it for like I don't need to like bring that up because black people know and if there are people who find themselves watching that video who are more sympathetic to the police I would also ask them to remove the context from this conversation and just watch the videos all of them and you'll see that at every moment that there is an opportunity to deescalate the police are the ones that are escalating it those are the people who are supposed to be trained in the calmest and most comfortable in those situations and it seem like even when you look at the Kus Campbell video or the Janu Smith video those guys are calm and uh reasonable and thoughtful about the things that they were saying and it felt like it was always the same officer and I think it's important also to point out that in those videos you see that the other officers are recognizing in the moment that this that one particular officer is going above and beyond and they are like hinting towards him but at no point do they say hey stop it you're making this worse so that's the scary part and the what if he's if it wasn't Tyreek is the thing that I think stands out in this because it reminds you that there's no more obvious place than outside of the Dolphin Stadium a black man with lots of muscles a gold chain and a Ferrari he's probably someone that you sh you guys should think twice about treating this way imagine if it is if those things aren't there what they must be doing or at least what that officer must be doing in other situations um that was unnerving just watching it again honestly it just um just to piggyback what what what dominic says it's I think a lot of black folks can really understand what how Tyreek Hill feels in that moment um we've all I think most you know most black folks have had incidences where you know you've you've been uncomfortable in those type of situations I think the thing that stands out to me in this in that situation is like how ego how ego in that situation can really inflame everything that's going on because Dominic you talked about police jobs and and listen I don't want to under I don't want to underestimate how hard it is to be a police officer there's so many things that they have to deal with that I know I wouldn't be able to I I wouldn't I wouldn't be able to deal with it right but in that situation it's your job first and foremost to deescalate the situation I think Tyreek Tyreek Hills maybe he maybe he was a little bit aggressive in the way he was talking initially but I think ultimately as as a police officer it's your job in this situation to say you know what I'm literally stop it's a traffic violation how do like how do you go from a simple traffic violation to basically pulling a man out of his car handcuffing him face down on the pavement then forcibly you know when the man is telling you like listen I just had knee surgery and you're still like forcibly you know being aggressive to that man like none of that is necessary and so for me again I'm watching that and I'm like damn like here we go again again we don't why is this why is this H why is this happening again and all I can say is I think God that there is body cam that's been the the biggest thing that's happened in in recent memory is the fact that we have body cam in this situation to to show every show the whole picture of what's going on body cam is a start repercussions is the next step correct yeah and and I think that the responsibility for the officers that are there the the ones that are overreacting and the ones that aren't is to deescalate the situation and to take control of that situation and like we the name George Floyd hasn't been brought up like this isn't as serious uh uh outcome but that's the same situation where there were other officers there there are other people there and other officers there who can step in and we noticed at points I think the Janu Smith one where one officer is telling him to leave which is de-escalating situation the other officer comes over and say no now you have to deal with me it's like take a deep breath you said ego take a deep breath what's the thing that could that could make this get worse it's you acting like that so like turn it down and it feels a lot like and I don't want to play pop psychologist but it does feel often like how dare who are you to talk to me like that as if they feel that the people that they are meant to serve are lesser than them and and how dare you roll your window up on me oh now you have to deal with me who are you talking to like that like that type of stuff teach you a lesson yeah like it's difficult to watch uh and it's difficult to talk about these are conversations that unfortunately we've had too many times and will most likely continue to have did you have a a final word black people know I just feel like like not enough white people do right like an appreciation for how much worse I would have to act in that situation to end up on the ground in handcuffs that's what hits me and I think it's an important thing for people to remember [Music]
