receptions and and 100 yards with a with a couple TDS in this game so the middle of the field is just going to be absolutely there for the taking and you know hopefully jiren Hall and that you know for a Young quarterback that's probably where you want him to keep the football is short in the middle of the field and they're going be some I think there's going to be a lot of big opportunities there tonight Packers run defense 30th in the NFL now Tai Chandler had a great game a couple weeks ago just 17 yards total net on the ground for the Vikings last week do you think this will be a big game on the ground uh it well it could be and here's the thing with this packer defense is that their defensive front especially the starters uh Preston Preston Smith Devonte Wyatt uh TJ Slayton uh who's been he's a little bit nicked up Kenny Clark ran Gary they're good those five front those guys Five Guys up front are good Devonte White's been struggling as of late and then you get the the rookie Lucas vaness in there so you you have your work cut out and like I said before Quay Walker very physical he's good against the Run Isaiah McDuffy is uh probably going to be playing tonight because dandre Campbell's out so mcduffy's been playing better so running the football is going to I think be a necessity to open up the Play action and the things behind the linebackers uh but if we can get a good if that running game can get going uh for Tai Chandler it's it's again it's not going to be that easy I think to run against this front Pete real quick one here for you the matchup turnovers the Minnesota Vikings can't wait for 2023 to be over I know I I hate to look that far ahead but I mean that's the reality is man we are a banged up group you know the thing is that we still we still have an opportunity man we still got an opportunity to win this game win the next game and get in the playoffs especially with the Seahawks losing yeah absolutely let's talk about the blitz cuz everyone loves talking about that with B flow's defense how we're almost at like 50% but the thing is is that does it actually generate enough pressure at a uniquely High rate not really when you look at the pressures that the Vikings are able to get on what's happening there well that's that's just it you know I think that a lot of offenses have kind of figured us out at least at least block us up a little bit so we don't have the quarterback pressures and we're not harassing the quarterback and yeah we might get there a little bit late but by that time the ball's already been made uh made a decision down the field and and they're completing passes so we we have to do a better job of disguising you know stimulating pressures dropping back you know just confusing them versus always having to get pressure because that's the thing when you look at Geor Love in This offense they're awfully good these last few weeks about picking up the blitz knowing exactly where to go when they see the team is blitzing and I actually think that he has a harder time when you simulate the blitzes you go up to the line of scrimmage you have all the spaghetti on the plate type of stuff and then you drop back post Snap that's where he really struggles and I hope if we start off the game with that mentality mentality he can throw us an early pick all right Ben how about this how about the Vikings offensive approach is it going to be yeah we got Justin Jefferson of course Jordan Addison is going to play that's according to a source that he will actually play today you got KJ Osborne obviously you're without TJ or is it going to be against the Packers run defense they're 30th in the NFL so do we get Tai Chandler in the ground game going which way do you think we'll probably lean towards well I think we have to get Tai going a little bit more you know the ground game has to be a big factor because you can't it's just not fair to jiren Hall to come into this game on a Sunday night and and expect to throw the ball 40 45 times this game to win that's just not fair to him you have to attack this defensive front this defensive front is built to rush the passer they're not built to stop the run we have to take the pressure off of him attack them where the mo where they're the most vulnerable and that's on the ground all right how about this last one less than a minute here for you Packers dline they do a lot of stunts and loop around they love to set up o lines and get clear shots at the quarterback how do you feel that that's going to go here tonight well as long as we can just stay ahead of the chains I mean that's going to be the biggest thing is look they don't have a lot of depth much like we don't have a lot of depth in the defensive line they're very young on the defensive line and like I was saying they want to rush the passer versus stop the run so as long as we're not in a lot of second and long and third and Longs and we can stay positive ahead the chains I don't think that's going to be a factor now that's all well and good it's I mean it's easy for me to say this but um hopefully during the game we limit the third and Longs limit all their twists and stunts and all that stuff and uh and we can sustain drives and wear those guys out Ben you're the best and happy New Year if I don't get to talk to you from now until then ah you do give him that second target give another place for the Packers to have to think about in coverage because if he can find places to throw I think you can have a lot of success in this secondary we've seen it in the past with Joe Barry and those deep shell that they like to play they will give you room to throw underneath hit easy throws and let people have space to run we've seen Justin Jefferson do that here in the past and certainly if they play with those coverages and they have different places to go with the ball I think Jared Hall can have some opportunities against this group well and Ben the good news is for Vikings fans especially how things have been going lately the uh turnovers and everything Packers defense uh for interceptions they've only had six that's 31st in the NFL yeah that's not really something they do I mean it's been interesting with them because for a lot of the years with the Packers defense it's they give up a lot of yards but they tend to bail themselves out by getting a lot of takeaways this group has not been able to do that and I think some of that as you've seen a lot of turnover in that safety position with Darnell Savage being Hur at times and and Jonathan Owens being in there uh you know not Edan Amli they've had in the past so I think the takeaways haven't been there for them and and it's it's a group that can get a lot of pressure their front seven can cause a lot of trouble but if you can protect Jared Hall there are places to take advantage of the secondary I think in a lot of different ways all right Ben thank you so much week um you know you lose a teammate in TJ Hockinson and then you know that you are the one that needs to step in and fill whatever that position might entail what do you what do you expecting for today and are you excited about the opportunity yeah I mean losing TJ I think the whole tight end room was devastated with that um but knowing TJ and knowing the competitor he is um you know he'd want nothing else but the next man up mentality and for you to go out there and play for him now you haven't you haven't had any receptions against the Packers in your career yet but you've had seven multiple catch games today and little do people know at San Jose State 98 receptions over a th000 yards receiving only the fourth in school history so you got you got that about you you excited to show it off a little bit yeah I feel like I still got a little bit of that to me um I mean my R has been primar primarily blocking but um always excited to show off my catching ability and you've been you've been especially uh important for this team in the Red Zone what is it about the red zone and uh with tight ends what what do you need to be what do you have to do to be good in the Red Zone man uh I feel like tight ends are like extra basketball players out there they can go up and get the ball um your eyes get bigger when you're in the red zone and you're always looking for the opportunity so this the Green Bay defense um you know they theyve a lot of focus on them Joe Barry their coordinator but I think up front they still they still have a a really good front F that they can put out the most so offensively what would be some keys to uh to getting by Green Bay today yeah I think uh PA we're going to have to be a efficient on early downs and efficient meaning let's get the Run game going a little bit let's see if we can get Tai and Alex you know some some uh you know consistent stack some runs uh stay in the manageable D and so we're not in those third and Longs we're not in those second and Longs those things are going to happen and and when they do uh we've got to find a way to you know try to thrive through those Downs convert and stay on the field I think it's going to be a game about sustaining some uh momentum throughout the game offensively um and seeing if we can get some chunk plays seeing if we can get some explosives and not need 12 14 plays every time we drive but also understanding that their offense on the other sides playing good football um we want to make sure we don't have our defense out there all day uh really play complimentary style and then have our kicking game jump in with some positive plays as well a jiren hall with a second start truly how deep up your up your sleeve can you get uh given the situation yeah I think anytime you're you're playing a young player and whether it's a young player a guy without a lot of experience expence uh you want to try to get him you know comfortable early uh but the other side knows you want to do that too and if you uh you know you also want to have that guy gain some confidence as the game goes on early on by giving him some opportunities uh to make a play and and Trust his arm trust the skill set trust the fundamentals and techniques and when I look at it PA you know jiren is going to be prepared for this game it's going to be a matter of can I you know take all that preparation handle the moment the energy in the stadium and just go out there and do my job and for us right now at the quarterback position uh we're looking for a guy that can throw completions uh run the show and ultimately with jiren's ability I think his athleticism might have an impact on it too being able to extend some plays off schedule uh but when we do those things uh let's make sure we maintain possession of the football and uh live to fight another down and uh you know as we like to say sometimes every possession should end in a kick of some sort U whether it's Ryan Wright putting it for field position Greg taking a shot at three or uh maybe get an extra point after a big time play uh your left guard Dalton Ryner um H what do you like about how he works with the rest of the Minnesota moving company he has been um from the first day we brought him in here I mean it's been a whirlwind for him uh ends up you know playing a really really significant portion of the season for us and playing every snap uh what I love about him is just what he brings from an energy standpoint I do think he's one of the better pass protecting guards really in football when you uh really take a look at what he does and he's imp improved in his fit in our Run game and uh I think he's growing each and every day I think he loves being around his teammates that old line culture that o line room uh is is one of my favorites and uh hoping to keep that group together as long as we can because they're growing every single time they play we've played a lot of guys up front this year uh overcoming some guys you know missing a game or two but what we've done is really tested our depth but grown our chemistry and culture in there to go play well together regardless of who's behind them at quarterback regardless of who's at the running back position so looking for them to have a big day the line of scrimmage is going to be a huge part of this game always is when you play a talented front like Green Bay um lastly you guys flumix love when you beat him at Lambo field what what are some defensive keys for this one tonight given uh the way I would assume he's matured since the last time you saw him yeah he's definitely uh I see a guy that's incredibly comfortable back there you know going through progression standing in there he's made some big time throws you know in the face of pressure uh and then ultimately you know he's still showing like he always has that ability to extend a play and find one of those good young receivers uncovered in the end zone or critical third down conversion to keep drives alive he'll use his legs they'll use him in the Run game when they need to uh he's become uh really probably everything that they hoped he would this year uh with all this valuable experience he's gaining uh I know when you flip on the tape you see a guy playing the position the right way and and continuing to get better and better so we're going to have to play really well defensively we're going to have to tie it all together between rush and coverage and pressure looks and uh Max coverage looks and try to keep him on his heels try to confuse him when we can and uh see if we can get some oppos at the football and uh if we can do that make them uncomfortable especially you know offensively I think that bodess well for us as a defense uh an early happy New Year to you Minnesota Vikings tonight but Jaden Reed uh who's had some injury problems of late he left in the third quarter went back to the lock room didn't return Isaiah McDuffy got himself messed up a little bit and uh now they have another Packer down with 148 to go and appears to be their Center as you got Yash nman out there warming up yeah John runan yeah well no yeah Ran's working out with Clifford now right in front of the Packers bench so I believe that is their starting center Josh Meyers Who's down so they may put runion over at Center but nevertheless jiren Hall the Brigham Young University rookie uh he was on quite the mission this evening he went five of 10 for 67 yds passing threw a pick a hall ran two times for four yards the Minnesota Vikings minus one in the take give they had a couple of drives end with turnovers uh which totally plays into the Vikings have have had drives end 185% of the times this year with turnovers that's that's the first thing I think the glaring thing when you step back and and you you take a look at this season I mean yeah injuries are a part of it but before even the injury bug bit us the turnovers were an issue we had doubt you know seven in the first two games right and and we had going into this game we had seven the last two games mhm uh that's something that they absolutely have to figure out uh and and the thing about it is is we've we've kind of fixed the fumbling thing but uh as far as protecting the football throwing it uh you know that has that really hasn't been there so um a big point of emphasis for the off season I mean there's a lot there's a lot that need that is available a lot that goes on um I think lot of positions where there's going to be some competition 14 of the 15 games the Vikings have played so far have been onore game Sean Clifford back to pass he's going to throw deep caught by Bo Melton at the 35 yd line stopped by Andrew Booth the old gotta play with a 23-point lead that's that's embarrassing that's a 38 yard reception for Bo Melton the newest longest of his career the previous took place tonight 28 yds and um for Shawn Clifford undrafted from Penn State uh that is a completion that is also his longest completion in the regular season and his first National Football League completion one minute to go in the game and the Green Bay Packers enter Victory formation o Melton six catches
