hi I'm Bob Edwards the show is changing today but it is not ending it's true most of my staff is gone and we have stopped recording new interviews but I'm still here along with my senior producer Chad Campbell we are hard at work mining our archives thousands of conversations from the past decade this program had a fabulous 10-year run conducting the interviews we as a staff wanted to hear and we hope you enjoyed those conversations too because we're now going to hear hear them all again well we won't be repeating everything just the good stuff and there's a lot to choose from for the next few weeks we'll be figuring out the best way to repackage our favorites but we also want to hear from you the best way to interact with us is on Facebook search Bob Edwards show to find us or you can email us the address is Bobs siriusxm.com the request line is open remind us of the interviews you remember fondly and would like to hear again for now we'll rely heavily on holiday themes important dates in history anniversaries and of course birthdays in fact one of our most frequent guests turns 90 today since none of us are getting any younger let's start the show hit it Chad hello and welcome to the bedward show for Wednesday October 1st Jimmy Carter left his Peanut Farm in Plains Georgia to become governor of his state he was so low-key that he once stumped the panel on What's My Line who couldn't figure out what he did for a living something you realize quickly in the Oval Office is that the easy decisions are not the ones that make their way to your death as the 39th president of the United States He negotiated the Camp David Accords a peace agreement between Israel and Egypt that still holds up today well the long days in Camp David are over but many months of difficult negotiations still lie ahead his time in office has been mocked as ineffective he was unpopular Carter governed during a time of malays and economic uncertainty then lost his reelection bid in Landslide left Washington in something of Despair and embarrassment and disappointment we didn't know what in the world we're going to do but for the past 30 years he has been the model for ex-presidents establishing the Carter Center that Fosters peace and monitors elections all over the world in 2002 Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize War May sometimes be a necessary evil but no matter how necessary it is always evil we can choose to alleviate suffering we can choose to work together for peace we can make these changes and we must he's also written many books which landed him on m
