[Music] ah yes the Saga is over the Yoni Haw Anda Saga is over Leaf fans you guys can put away your conspiracy theory hat because even me I was really going on and on about this like I was like what is going on with this guy this is one of the most confusing situations that I've seen in NHL free agency in relative recent history so around July 1st it was reported that Yoni hawen signed a 2-year 1.5 per eache deal and I was thinking I was like he played like 18 and 1/2 minutes for Dallas last year you might call him the bottom pair D but 18 and 1/2 minute guy for 1.5 yeah I get it there's criticism he's not a perfect defenseman he's not a number one guy I get it but he also shoots right and I was thinking to myself I was like damn that's a pretty good deal I guess mostly my comparison is going to be when you look at other NHL teams what they're giving their relative four five and six defensemen you look at Yoni haaka and you think to yourself man he is a pretty legit player 6' s big guy he throws a couple of hits he can clear the front of the net he shoots right obviously he might move around as good as a 6'7 defenseman can which is you know average at best let's be let's be true with this but at the end of the day good signing and then it came out that Steve Simmons says actually the guy pretty much has no cartilage in his knee and I'm like wait wait wait wait wait hold the phone and the thing is is even the Leaf's Twitter we're absolutely not even touching on this at all like there was no actual announcement which means that there was no actual signing right like he didn't actually sign with the Leafs and I'm like okay let's figure this out let let's get this going because if you get rid of him like this is the one risk about the leavs where let's say he is injured right this is the one really risky thing that the leaves don't have have great depth past their six guy so what I mean by that is like if like I actually I'm actually a person that likes fite Myers I don't know if you know him he's a pretty good right-handed shooting guy that um that that signed with the leaf I think it was to a two-way deal I can't remember but he that's an option for them but this one was worrying me cuz I'm like okay if this guy gets injured you're you're going to be at Philip Myers and then you're going to be at really really depth guy so you you need Philip Myers to work out but he was signed initially today for not the two-year deal but a one-year deal 1. like 47 that's a perfect deal like here's the thing if this works out to the max that it can work out meaning that he plays 60 to 70 to 80 games and he helps the least penalty kill because let's remember the least penalty kill was atrocious last year like it was so bad well I believe it was the worst penalty kill of any playoff team which is objectively terrible and if that is what happens and he can improve their penalty kill he can Munch minutes he can be relatively healthy this is a perfect I would argue a steal of a contract the problem with this though is if he gets injured this is going to be a big big issue because then you're going to f Meers and then you're going to other guys and you know then you're going to American Hockey League guys and some of those guys might have a decent amount of talent but when the Leafs need a guy to be a good penalty kill for them this is going to be an issue right they need a good penalty killer for them like this is something that they absolutely have to improve on you cannot have the worst penalty kill of any team and just say well you know we're going to bring some guy with no cartilage in his knee like there is criticism of this however Lea fans I'm not saying there's only criticism with this there is a positive that he is a pretty damn good player like he can play um I've actually kept my my eye on him for a while as an option for the Leafs in the playoffs um and he's a good player I I like when the Leafs picked him up I was like oh that's a clever idea but I don't know man this one is worrying me a bit because if he gets injured like it's worth a bet but I don't like that this is past him the options start to thin if you understand what I mean and I'm wondering if maybe this is why they're keeping in touch with Mark jodano right this is what I'm thinking because they got a guy that's basically um I mean if he if it is true that he has no cartilage in his knee this guy's Hanging On by a threat let me let me be crystal clear this guy's Hanging On by a threat I mean you need cartilage in your knee I guess you can make the argument that surgeries and and Rehab can fix issues but God he needs to play at an NHL level so anyways it worries me I actually watched a lot of Dallas games last year and he legitimately is a good player I watched a lot of Dallas games because I like watching them just in general and Chris tanb I wanted to watch but I always notice the only hwot man this guy can play either way we can drop all our conspiracy theories he is signed for a one-year 1.47 uh overall deal so I'm wondering if he'll probably play with an Oliver emman Larson on the third pair or perhaps a number four roll but I think that might be pushing it with him I wonder who he is going to be paired with I would like to see an interesting pair of him and Jake McCabe perhaps on the PK or something like that five on five I wouldn't mind seeing him and oel skate up and down the ice I wonder how many minutes he's getting I I also wonder for the Maple Leafs and this is another thing how does he look in preseason Leaf fans if you're listening this keep a close eye on how he looks in preseason because if he's if he's I'm I'm going to be watching this guy like a hawk because what we're hearing online and this is a beautiful thing about the internet is we have all this information at our fingertips that we would have never known before right keep an eye on this guy in preseason because I guess he was going to get an absolute contract either way I will say one thing though I'm really glad that it worked out with the Maple Leafs the Maple Leafs really need this defenseman to work out for them obviously I'm worried about the injury history history because below him it gets a little bit thin so I I am worried about this one but guys I'm telling you if this works out this is going to be an absolute steal for the lease 1.47 dude Joel Edmonson got whatever the hell he got an insane contract i' take H hwot 1.47 over that guy any day um yeah anyways I'm going to leave this video there
