we've seen uh the business that has been done Brendan Rogers last week on the program after the wi against Simon he said come next Friday we'll have improved the squad he said seems to have done so I think and and Philip Clon talking to Andy there before the game he's talking about that 16 players having left 10 come in he's talked about a younger profile to the squad he talked about value for the future uh who is in a better position off the back of the transfer window and the deadline day business that was done a Celtic you know a Celtic spent an awful lot of money um this year they spent over 30 million but I think yeah I think they're still in in profit I think they're still in profit on all of those deals so they've done I think they've done well in terms of the age profile I think both both of them done have done well actually um this window the Celtic are playing with a lot more cash than than and Rangers the Rangers are um it's a shame that the paperwork hasn't been done on Nadim barami because I think he's uh he looks a terrific player you know he's his performances for Albania and the Euros he started all three incredible inedibly competitive group tough group um uh and you know scored obviously the fastest goal in the history of the EUR against Italy draw against Croatia One n defeat against Spain looks a very good player I think they I think they've done they've done well it's been a whirlwind at Rangers I mean you look at the players who have left players who who played in the old firm game last season maybe bit part some of them but goon lrom cell SEMA Davis barisich Silva right rof all gone you know uh some turnaround incredible turnaround so while it's while it's been kind of fast and furious for Rangers in terms of the the ins and the outs Celtic is far far more methodical far more kind of patient I would say maybe too patient for for some Celtic fans but they got there in the end and they brought in you know in trusty I think he he would probably in time maybe a short space of time take over from scales um angles will will come in for O'Reilly and you've got Ida and and and kyogo battling it out up front I think they've got players there come into the starting starting lineup and that's what Brendan Rogers wanted he didn't want Squad players he wanted starters and I think he's picked up two or three of them in the window doy what's your um taking I think one that perhaps has Spar a fair bit of debate is is Luke McOwen you you cannot um see anything other than it's got to be a brilliant move for Luke and and he will certainly be earning an awful lot more money um but having gone from being the main man at dund is he going to get much game time in that Celtic side you would think so at some point um I I think he's got to come with the mindset I said it yesterday that he's got to come with the mindset that I'm a starter you can't come thinking oh well I'm just going to be a bit pack player um are you beaten before you start Celtic are more set stone aren't they I think that's what alluding to H where they can just do whatever business they think to to make the the squad stronger Rangers for me they had to change they had to change practically everything and and and they've done that because the results suggest that you don't R out what Tom just said 111 and 18 h under Brandon Ro I think they've only W one in the last 12 Rangers uh on firm games as well Richard so you don't run those stats out and think well we can just keep on doing the same as so things had to change drastically you would think it would improve the squad yes a lot of look as if on paper there's a bit of technical ability good players um but they still got to go and do it but it doesn't matter I think they had to change something they just couldn't keep on going with the the same Squad maybe change one or two players and and hope that it would get better I think they had to do something drastically and they've done that and in terms of Celtic Pat um undoubtedly stronger this time or right now than they were this time last week yeah I think the I think the players they've brought in it took them a long time to get them in and there was uh there was a period there where we were probably all wondering are they going to get them in on time and and what what the games is coming up when I just looking at the fixture list that they have is quite incredible especially around October November when they've all those European games to play and it's almost three games a week so they needed a uh they needed a good strong 11 but they needed a score uh and I think they have that now when you look at the new players sitting on the bench and and the guys he's going with today they have it the one player that I was a way bit surprised that left the club was a water uh only because he's the the natural one that might take over from McGregor who we seen him injured last year and he came in he did okay he did fine um maybe not as not in the same sort of bracket as as McGregor for sure but as a squad player I thought he was good and I'm looking at the other players that they brought in they're not not that type of player you know to sit there in in front of your back four and and and play so so that's an area of concern slightly and I think up he could play that role perhaps who sorry mreg looked at that he could to a point but defensively you know I think I think he's a little bit short and we did say that about McGregor to be honest when he when he in a position we were wondering whether he could do the defensive side uh well and he's done it well really well so but you have to have a a kind of a almost a a mentality to be able to do that role both on the ball and off the ball it's a completely different situation than higher up the pitch where you can almost like if you take Bernardo you take uh the ones that they brought in Luke M I'm delighted to see that young man coming I've been so impressed with him when I watch anytime I've done the Dundee game s he was always the one that stood out for me and he's come in and and absolutely Dodge is absolutely right you come to this club here and I've seen many come with a bit of a pedigree and they've struggled because they didn't believe in themselves you got to come here with a bit of uh Dash and a bit of yeah I'm as good as anybody else and that and he's done that coming up from Air going up to dunde he became the main player so he has to continue that now but I'm really looking forward to see what he can do if he gets into the team that is and at the back they have got about four still four five to get Le leer Vela out but they've still got now trustees come in with her and he's Left sided he could play left back also or or left Center back and and left side and I think that's hugely important you're going to bring somebody in bring him in for balance on the left hand side it's going to be a good battle with him Liam scales is he who plays that puts the pressure on Liam scales he's got to he's got to keep doing what he's good what he's done well at uh to stay in the team uh so around all around the pitch I think they've got they've got almost players is going to be in competition to each other and that's the crucial part up front if something happens kogo we talked about it a couple of weeks ago where he had that injury uh he still got the injury that hasn't gone away whether whether that reoccurs again he hasn't got get the operation then they have only got my Mikey Johnson's gone out now so they don't have that luxury uh to maybe play him up there so so that might be still an area where they might have to strengthen in January if things go um go wrong with them one of the things Brenan Rogers said during the the chats that he had with Andy and he touched on these games talked about these games um thas being an emotional challenge uh which I thought was a really clever way of kind of summing it up now you and I've watched many many many of these over the years um from the other side of the the touch line but it totally understands why he he sees it that way just in terms of even even our experience of it yeah yeah completely um you know Rangers at various times lost their head that they they were slow starters in these games and that's all emotion as well they need to get themselves to fever pitch very quickly but controlled Fury if you know what I mean and sometimes they quite often last season in these games they they just couldn't get the balance right they were either a bit passive or they're a bit emotional we got two men sent off in these games uh as I said earlier they they made bad starts in in in three of them to go two n down but but Celtic have been very kind of precise in their preparation that comes with winning you know they know how to win these games they will feel that they've got Rangers measure and I know it's a different looking Rangers team today if you look at the Cup Final from only back in May there only five players that started um starting today and it started back then and there's there I think four guys came off the bench in the Cup Final sea R uh Lindstrom um three maybe three those three came off the bench not there anymore so you know there big big turnaround Celtic are more or less the same and I think they're settled they know how to get the job done in these games they know what it's like even though there's a new some new players on the bench that Co that group that's starting very experienced in this match they know what it they know what requires they know the stresses and strains that this fixture puts on people and they they know how to manage it and yeah I guess that was summed up by Rogers as well doy when he said that we just need to go out there and beat us I mean that just shows there's a confidence confidence yeah in his team in his players and you can understand why with the results over the last few years um he has that confidence but he still knows he also used the words about what we we have to work our socks off do the same things that got us those results if we don't we could be in trouble Celtic are heavy favorites today there's no doubt I don't think it there'll be a walk over not unless Rangers you know as Tom said that maybe in PL at some point lose a player then you can run up a 34 now I think this will be a hard thought game closely matched Rangers can stay in it for a certain amount of time they've got to get through I keep on saying it every time you come to places like this you got to get through the first 20 25 minutes here um and then bed yourself into it and show that concentration show that control that Tom's talking about as well and I think this will be a close Run game I mean there's a lot of people saying Celtic will blow them away I'm not so sure about that and I'm not just saying that I just think GRE are going to come here that yeah they've drawn me they've got two wins seven points they're on the chase already I get that they need some sort of result things have got to change at some point they got to show that they're chipping away at Celtic even though they're the better team just now um but I don't think this will be a run over I think this will be closely matched and a hard fought game the fers get the tactics right get that control Tom talking about and bring an all round performance together a a lot of a lot of this inevitably goes back to McGregor can can Callum McGregor have the influence that he nearly always has in this match or can Rangers do something to get in his face well you've got you've got your rush in Midfield Tom I know you've been saying that for a we while so we'll see how that one plays out today a we bit more strength andit more strength and discipline against that Celtic Midfield yeah there the strength there there's a there's a plenty of engines in there there's a lot of athleticism in there in that in that Rangers Midfield but McGregor Boston isn't he I mean you look at not just he's he's in you look at all these stats in these Rangers in these Ranger Celtic games you know terms of his passing accuracy he's always he's almost 90% plus he's always number one um in terms of number of touches he's nearly always number one the guy controls these games like few midfielders have controlled these games in many many years yeah Tom I mentioned about clont about you know that'll be a question mark over getting his tactic the first thing he's done he's made the decision to leave lawen out and bring them on so that that to me is was stand on you you couldn't go with Tom Lawrence again when you watched their performance last year and when you when you have up against uh McGregor it's not so much yes you have the physicality and you've got to get a little bit of Dash about you to get closer but it's your mentality it's how you deal with them he pull off your shoulder he'll go to the ball he he's on the Move he's always looking for space and you you have got to have good understanding of how to deal with that you can't go out there and just have a look at a one man and then he's gone off your shoulder that's the that's the difference so you got to have the right player to deal with it de has shown to me that he actually has a little bit of that in him and that and that'll be a real real uh jeel today we talk about jewels around the pitch that will one today and if if the M comes out a little bit better than Tom Lawrence did last year let's face it then Rangers have have a chance if he doesn't and and and McGregor actually dominates and dictates this game celic will play Dam and uh and Sterling in the Cup Final were excellent particularly damond you know he was he was he was just you know it was you wonder sometimes how many of them were out many of him were out there he was everywhere and think you're going to need that kind of performance from him and from Sterling and from Baron today to interrupt that Celtic Midfield particularly McGregor he is you know we talk about all these new players is coming in uh it goes back to the old Stager for me it almost goes back to him it's interesting if you've all you've all highlighted the importance of the Midfield both Billy and part I think in in the summing up of the team very quickly pointed to that for both sides is it is it simply down to who wins that Midfield battle pack or surely there are other aspects over the the course of the the pitch that are going to have a big bearing yes of course we talked about May up against Taver you know we've seen it in the past where Maya has and I just watched May everybody ran in uh just after the warm- up Ma stayed out and he put in three or four almost 20 yd Sprints that's his game he gets the ball he knocks it by he presses her really quick he's got speed in that and caver thinks that he's going to have a nice easy game just floating up into the Celtics half and they'll be hitting diagonals to him then he's got something he's got to think he's away from home today he's at at Celtic Park he's up against this guy he's got to get his his positions right sometimes he does well when he doesn't go too tight onto MAA and he just almost stays two yards off and giv himself an opportunity to deal with the space behind and I think he's got to be clever today and and and how he deals with but that is going to be a big one we talk about on the other side coming in I don't know but the boy Jey how how he's going to deal with him because he's got a little bit of pace and he started off the season really well last year was very critical of when he came he's changed his game completely he's more direct now he takes people on he goes wide and he goes on the inside and he's got something about him that's going to be an an interesting one for me but but you know why we talk about the Midfield Rich that being so important because if you're winning that you're not defending as much because you're winning the Midfield battle and also your front players are getting fed more and you're you're allowing them to create so that's why that area is so important because if you're not winning it in there players aren't getting involved in the game and your defend are under pressure so there why I know we always throw out there but that's why with the the Midfield area especially in this match but most matches in the Premiership is so important you dominate in there you're not defended and you're attacking it well sometimes two excellent goalkeepers on show of course I'm actually just watching the screen there um Joe Hart was was downstairs uh in the the tunnel area the dressing room area he's obviously there to guest afternoon and he was um making sure that he got his message across let's go there and win Bo to the Celtic as they were coming in be two fantastic goalkeeper schmeichel's com in he settled exactly as You' have anticipated Pat but um you've got to know that Jack butman at the the other round has also proved to be a very very valuable signing for Rangers I these two have got big afternoons ahead as well yeah listen they are two quality goalkeepers top top top notch and suly did well getting Casper schichel to come here for a year and that what what we know about Casper schichel is that he's very good on the ball I think he's got a an advantage over Joe Hart from that perspective but in this game is a bit the big saves at the right moment in the right time to keep your team in it and we don't know what smich he hasn't seen he hasn't been tested since he's come to the C Park so he's come up with a big save I'm sure there will be opportunities for Rangers here but he Jack Butler we know can make the seems he's got all that about him uh and and he's had a tremendous season last year and and Rangers have done well to hold on to him they were talking about him going away and maybe then cashing or whatever it was but but he stayed and he's going to be a very important two two goers made important role to play in this game today Celtic yet to ConEd a goal three league matches played three victories nine scored none against if they win then they do go back ahead of aine and difference at the top of the table victory for Rangers we see them move ahead of Celtic and look there been an awful lot of talk and it was touched on in interviews there as well talk about the negativity that the surrounded R is mly part of the season the Champions League exit and everything that's been going on at the stadium and the fact that to play home games at hamen Park um You Can't Take Your Eye Off the prospect or the potential that a win Rangers can set things up can turn things down completely for them could indeed propel them into a season to remember yeah I mean it would be I I think we need we need an upset in this in this game and we haven't had we talk about the great unpredictability of old firm games actually they've been quite predictable you know Celtic normally win uh this would be a shock if Rangers were to win today I think this fixtion needs something to shake it up a little bit I'm not you know I'm not I'm pretty sure the Celtic fins probably don't agree with you they they of course they don't but I'm speaking as a complete neutral you know we need something a little bit unexpected to happen and the only thing that I would be unexpected today is for is a Rangers win I don't think they will win I think setic will win I think they're going to be too good but if Rangers do win it would it would absolutely Galvanize them it would it would mean that the whole I bro to Backle would fade away cuz they're going to go back to I bro very very soon imminently uh the the the preseason failings in in friendlies they would go away all the signings the tobacco and the ins and outs that would go away and all of a sudden you know they'd be they'd be ahead of Celtic they'd have beaten Celtic at Celtic Park all of their problems would disappear in a puff of smoke if they were to win this game today well P um Tom doesn't imagine that it's going to happen uh do you have any fears from a Celtic point of view I think it's going to be a tight game I I don't think are going to win this game uh what a big score line I think they will win I think they've got enough quality and I think the way they've been playing performance- wise at home here with the crowd behind them uh it really depends on how R have Rangers lose at first goal is mentality then how do you how do you handle we did talk about certain players been here before others new ones coming in but it but it can be a very tough Place uh in either Stadium when you don't have your crowd in and if you go goal behind to just hang in there uh and and that's going to be probably the way that the game I I think will dominate uh probably possession attempts and if if Rangers go about it depends really we talked about it earlier how do they press from yes they can press from gold kicks but the Open Play do they press did they press High did they set off if they press and Celtic beat that press then there's areas of the pitch that Celtic have got really quality players that can hurt you really hurt you now we haven't talked too much about the about obviously maty being missing in that middle of the pitch and Bernardo having to commen place and that still is a a question for me the Otti we know will move around the patch and get on the ball and has got a big influence in the game also but have they got enough without mat O'Reilly that'll be a question and will they have to go to the bench to maybe change it around well the players have emerged as you of the pitch has been has been excellent McGregor has been pulling the strings in the middle of the park a kyogo had eight touches in the ball before he scored you know ders had more but that's all he needs is a touch and that was that was the game in microcosm the rers give the ball away Celtic are so quick speed of thought speed of movement and they find the space and yes butland has left so much space I mean butland does not do well there but kiyo's finish is just class he plants it in the corner and this is like this is a brilliant Celtic performance and Rangers are lucky it's only two now yeah like we talked about the Midfield Celtic um obviously generally dominant there in particular Callum McGregor dominant there and Rangers needed to be completely on top of there was a moment there a couple of moments in actual fact where was Conor Baron twice at first caught out Celtic break and and hadat he should have scored and then within a couple of minutes he's a little bit short with the pass Taylor is more alert than the Rangers player jumps in takes it and then that's the pass that leads to kyogo and that those are just examples of of Celtic overrunning range in that part of the pitch and is it aren they yeah absolutely and it's but I say it's a speed of thought like Taylor sees the passes short he's onto it and he makes the right decision and he does it very very quickly kyogo finds the space turns very very quickly dispatches the ball to the net like it's it's all break neck speed with Celtic and the tempo the throwi inss are fast the kick outs are fast everything is fast fast fast furious Tempo and this is this is just they're streets ahead of ranges absolutely streets ahead of them it might have been worse Tom I mean the the goal the kyogo goal that was disallowed in the 11th minute he if he hasn't leaned just quite as far forward because I think his feet were on side but he's just kind of leaned a little bit and the top of his chest or um round about that area is is just ahead of the last Rangers player but they been big chances thereafter they have yeah I mean you know made a shot blocked uh hatate should score just straight afterwards Bernardo at Bernardo you know they've had they've had some amount of moments I mean they could they could be four up and it's I just think this is this is to me this is a throwback to Celtic 2016 2017 R Rogers first season mhm because it's it's uh it's so ruthless it's so quick this is and and maybe Peak pasta COG too this I think this is a really really substantial Celtic performance and and they're and they're winning all the physical battles as well on top of the football battles which they the Celtic players are just better phys physically they're mus Alistar Johnson is musling people off the ball you know it's it's I think just that they're winning in every Department I've got to say for about 10 minutes I thought well actually Rangers are are doing better against the Celtic team than any other side I've covered the five games so far as Liam said in commentary they've been ahead Within 17 minutes of each of those it's taken them that long against both karik and Rangers but it's three or four minutes in the games against HS and and S M but it it's been a similar pattern and beyond that 10-minute mark it has been exactly the same pattern in terms of Celtic utterly dominant and taking a real grip on a game in the opening 45 minutes they haven't necessarily G on and press that they've got a couple second half goals against kic but um this is one match where you figure that they will absolutely uh keep the p will push down as hard as they possibly can won't they well I mean you know we've said that we said that before three times last season we said before you know they were two n up and they didn't and Rangers came back into it and we couldn't see Rangers came coming back into those games Especially since one of them lrom was sent off um but they came back so we hesitate to say the Rangers are done because of last season we've see there is a bit of there is a bit of fight in this team although this is this is a different team but Celtic at this form if Celtic keep playing like this this this will go to four easily this will go to four cuz they're just they're just so sharp they're so slick and if they keep up this this standard this is going to this could be a brutal afternoon for Rangers it's a first goal of the season for kyogo it's a third for D and Maya and Pat boner um when you made your way along the stadium this afternoon you'd have been from a Celtic point of view dreaming of a performance like this wouldn't you yeah listen you know Rangers started off and they tried to you know press obviously from they kick off they put the ball into Celtic's half they push players further forward uh and uh they they kept Celtic you know pending for probably about 5 10 minutes C stuck to their what what they do well and just passed the ball around and and tried to to to build the game from the back and Cel our Rangers were getting a little bit of joy to get their transfer but after that s just and they were so devastating on the C you know Thomas described it well energy uh you know Pace speed of thinking quality on the ball they absolutely destroyed Rangers from from you know probably halfway inside their own pitch right up to the goal line they they they exploited those spaces really really quickly and sharp and they've got players of May kyoga you've seen them on the wide areas Alis Johnson overlapping or on the inside uh kkon then taking guys on so they've got those players and that but they've been very very comfortable and and and playing that style we've seen them in the past maybe play a style where you know they've had more of the ball and they could pass it around and waiting for the moment but to day it was about exploiting space and they did it so so well and I don't think any team can live with it well bil Rangers did for about 10 minutes didn't they and then the inevitable seem to Happ 9 10 minutes have got and they just can't sustain it um and that's down to Celtic they have been devastating I think Tom used brutally ruthless is the the words that would describe Celtic and every Department Rangers then go into panic mode one in one battles all over the pitch is the biggest roasting I've seen Taver take in a long time from MAA not just because of the goal and his positioning but it's always a coaching Point Richard when there's no pressure on the ball he has got to deepen when his his build him from higher up the pitch and he doesn't he just STS at the ball and MAA just leaves him for dead cuz he just pops a yard forward and then spins and he doesn't know what to do with it when they get in the box from cutbacks what he does is deepen onto the line when he shouldn't when he should just stay with his man he should definitely M the man rather than space gets it all wrong um I did say at the start I don't know if this back for can keep clean sheets that's been born out um and then Celtic have just grown into I said the machine that they've been and they are so confident and I also said like if Rangers could get through the first hour first half hour sorry then I don't think it' be three or four now well it could be now because they have as I say into panic mode lost all discipline and they looked as if they were just desperate and I mean desperate to get that halftime whistle so we'll see how they come out and it's so Dage isn't it no more goals or the next goal is so important because uh if Celtic win this handsomely Rangers I don't know where they are going forward in terms of um confidence um as as individuals as a unit as a club just might disappear because it has been it's showing the gap between the two sides H even this ear in the season yeah Richard just a point we we talked about all Celtics great players we didn't mention po Bernardo I thought he's had an excellent first half not not so much yeah he's he chance with butland but almost his work off the ball when he when he you know when he lost it he was the one that went and pressed the ball and side of what T was building from the back and Celtic didn't quite know in the first 10 minutes where they were at but it's all the bits in between that right okay then I've given you that I can only give you so much knowledge I don't want to flood your mind as the way Philip Clon have been sent him but you need to do your bit now go out as individuals win your battles and and then from there dominate your areas but that has not happened C have just blown away away after that 10 minutes Tom you spoke beforehand about the pressure even this early mounting on Philip clo should Rangers take a thumping at um Celtic Park this afternoon this is a will have been a massive 15 minutes halftime interval for him is he as he tries to somehow get his players back regrouped again yeah like he has to try and come up with something that makes them competitive in this second half to make a game of it like he's done and he's done it before so let's see what he comes up with but I think he's playing against the Celtic team that's played better in that first half than they played against Rangers in any game last season they're they're more Relentless they're more ruthless than I've seen them for quite a while so he's got his work cut out to to stop this becoming an absolute route if he makes a game of it and they lose fair enough you know they Rangers will have shown a bit of Steel he shown a bit of something to arrest arrest the impending kind of Crisis but if Celtic carry on and Rangers are as vulnerable as they are wow it could be the recriminations here could be pretty Swift Cel well
