Taylor Swift using her moment on stage at the VMAs to call on voters to register young voters especially registered vote the night before that she had announced her support for kamla Harris and one voter registration group has pointed to a huge spike in traffic and telling CNN the Swift effect is undeniable let's look at all of this Harry Anon is here so undeniable you get to be the judge on that um this all gets to young voters yeah how much does she need help how Canen yeah I mean why does kamla Harris welcome Taylor Swift's support why does she need the help well let's just point out something that I have been noting all along during this campaign and that is the underperformance that both Joe Biden and now even kamla Harris has among young voters all right so this is the Democrat versus Trump margin among voters age 18 to 29 or under the age of 30 you go back four years ago at this point look Joe Biden had a 28o Advantage a 28 point advantage over Donald Trump now you look when Joe Biden dropped out of the race he was up by just seven points now Kam Harris has improved on Joe Biden's standing but look at this she's only up by 15 points that is significantly less than Joe Biden was up at this point among the youngest voters in our electorate it's only about half the margin that Joe Biden was pulling in so KLA Harris will absolutely welcome in the support of Taylor Swift if she can move young voters at all because the bottom line is K Harris is in fact not doing as well among young voters as you might expect a Democrat to necessarily be doing based on upon history and what we heard from Taylor Swift last night was a call to register to vote get involved why how much of voter registration and why is that key how important is that yeah I mean look let's go to the key Battleground states of Pennsylvania and North Carolina all right and what we're going to do here is look at the Democratic advantage over Republicans in voter registration this is party registration registering as a Democrat a Republican or unaffiliated look if you go back to September of 2020 look among active in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania so Democrats with look at that a 559 th000 voter Edge over Republicans you jump now look Democrats still have an edge but look how much that's dropped it's now just 169,000 we're talking about Republicans closing the Gap by nearly 400,000 voters in just a 4-year time span you go to North Carolina it's the same exact Trend right you go back to September of 20120 you see Democrats with a 415,000 voter Edge and now they still hold an edge but it's just 28,000 and of course both of these states were determined by less than 100,000 voters back in 2020 so the bottom line is Republicans have been doing a significantly better job of registering voters than Democrats have been doing over the last four years and getting folks to switch over from democratic registration to Republican registration so yeah K Harris would definitely welcome the idea if Taylor Swift could bring in some more younger voters Democratic leaning voters in the electorate cuz the bottom line is Republicans have been doing a heck of a lot better job of registering voters than Democrats have over the last four years I mean that this this seems like a warning sign you know in the result of it we have to wait and see right I mean registration doesn't equal votes but it's it something of an indicator so it's an indicator speaking of indicators what is the Swift effect yeah what is the Swift effect so look what do we know visitors to vote vote.gov D to Taylor Swift who clicked on that link on her Instagram post as of 2 p.m yesterday look how many folks clicked on that link it was 338,000 folks now not all those folks obviously are going to register to but the bottom line is this is a ton of folks who could be entering the electorate look it's not necessarily something that's going to change the election if Donald Trump ends up winning by two or three points but of course the votes in these key Battleground states are so so tight that any help that you could get at all this is a clear effect of folks going and getting interested to register to vote you saw last night Taylor shift again urging folks to go register to vote Democrats will take any of the help because the bottom line is this election is so close that any small impact could be all the impact in the world are you saying turnout matters turnout turnout turnout Sarah you two Goofs a one Miss Taylor Swift a well-known childless cat lady came out and Endor kamla Harris for president immediately after the debate ended how big a deal is this huge like I mean I think the timing of it was so smart I think like you know that her publicist has had read over that comment like at least the day before like I know it was written to be posted right after the debate but I it was so smart to do it when everyone was talking about it when all eyes were on uh on what happened on stage that night and I mean do I have questions about whether the tone would have been different if Harris had a different performance maybe but I think that her capitalizing on that moment and pushing the the story about the debate forward it's I I can't believe I'm going to say this on television but I think it's kind of like the white woman version of what Taraji P Henson did at the BET Awards when she said look up project there was such a cultural shift after that moment that I I kind of see Taylor taking using that opportunity to jump through I'm glad people forget that that so many people glaze over didn't know as soon as she said that at the BET Awards it was like the lights went on and huge Spotlight on Project 2025 last night I spoke to Carol King which was super awesome she has been involved in politics since the 80s and not just like performing a show and reminding people literally knocking on people's doors and saying like John Carrey do you know what he stands for do you think that's what seele I mean we're not expecting Taylor Swift to be knocking on doors but but I think she might I think she's the kind of person who would I think she's yeah but then people would die and then they can't vote heart attack and pass and pass away that would be a huge change too I mean she's never done something as big as that she's always done like an Instagram post here's cookies whatever it would and she always notably says do your own research here's how to register to vote and frankly I'm wondering if she's going to push it a little further so you saw the voter registration that was kind of the big thing you don't know what it's going to turn into I guess like any given day it's like 30,000 I think 3 400,000 hit that so that could kind of move the needle but you know the one thing I think is the most important thing think about the last few days it's like Trump's advisers know all too well what a cruel summer he had right when you think about here's the thing I just want to say this but this is really important so the magga media and Trump they have not been able to shake it off like think it's days and I just think that's the most important thing about that that onew punch between her performance I'm done cut he can go on ever more you were wondering if there was a dad at the table tonight and naan yeah 's going to be excited about that all right but I I just think that that is a really important onew punch the performance that kamla had and then having that sort of endorsement I'll say one thing though Bruce Springstein in 2016 like two nights before the election he was with Hillary Clinton he played a set ready for this in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and she lost Pennsylvania you know what I mean Friday night before uh um Jay-Z and Beyonce performed for maybe it was in Ohio and Trump used that to his benefit I think he was in Western PA and he got on the stage and he said I don't have Jay-Z and I don't have Beyonce but I have you and you have me and Pennsylvania worked for him and he's given up on that though is the thing like I don't think that Donald Trump really has had that sort of connection with the audience in the same way as he did in 2016 like KLA Harris to go back to the debate was very right when she was like you go to one of his rallies and what he's not talking about is you at this point he has done with that well he is Tapped Out on pretending to have sympathy for the people who he wants uh to vote for him well if you go to the rallies now he doesn't have a new routine he doesn't even have a new song it's still that same it's still the same routine so there's no new connection but Republicans all week I mean I love Brett farv on Twitter was reminding people that celebrity endorsements don't count I want to say wow you must not have a high opinion of yourself Mr far um but do you be Beyond Taylor Swift yeah do you think that account because when George cloney wrote that letter his unendorsed of President Biden that had an impact it's seriously did have an impact and so I actually interviewed a swift olist about this endorsement the person who exists he teaches at University of Kansas teaches he's a sociologist he teaches a tiller Swift course the thing I learned from I that was so interesting was I asked him about the friendship bracelets that the campaign is selling sold out that are sold out they like went up and Bo they were gone Y and I was like what do you think about that that's kind of like a appropriating swif iness and he was like it's actually really smart because Taylor Swift fans go up to each other and they talk about the bracelets and they trade them and I was like oh like voter Outreach and he was like yeah and I was like huh swifties for comma a fundraiser earlier this summer what kind of impact do you think Taylor's endorsement is going to have on this race well it's it's phenomenal she alerted people and she she wrote a beautiful piece in doing it she said okay this is how I feel I did my research now you go do yours and vote that's the that was her basic message and of course she has so many fans her platform is huge so a lot of people responding to that but it's tough to do it I want to share a clip of Taylor Swift from 2018 telling her management team her parents why it was important to her to get involved in Tennessee Senate race watch this Taylor Swift comes out against Trump I don't care if they write that I'm sad that I didn't two years ago ago but I can't change that I'm saying right now that this is something that I know is right and you guys I need to be on the right side of history and if he doesn't win then at least I I at least I tried she went on to endorse Biden in 2020 Carol you have been doing this for decades how hard is it for musicians and other celebrities to get involved in politics it angers people well it I can't I don't see that it's I don't I can't speak for other musicians but for me and obviously for Taylor it's not just it's not a question of hard or easy it's a question of importantance so folks even tonight Taylor Swift is crushing Trump on the world stage calling him a loser saying he's the worst president ever all of that she's more polite than I am but we know that's what she's saying and and importantly affirmatively endorsing comma not simply saying Trump's but comma is good right and she's not telling her people how to vote but she is pointing them in the direction of KLA and critically pointing them towards The Ballot Box and registering and doing all of that even if some of her supporters are Trump supporters she just wants her overwhelmingly young female audience to vote and that would benefit kamla and here's the thing with this her endorsement is so big it's not just a one night Affair when when another celebrity endorses kala or attacks Trump even if they're a fairly big celebrity it's it's it's it's important it matters but like Trump will flip out about it on true social for a day or two kala will say thank you but it won't move polling it won't like almost no celebrity is big enough to do that maybe it'll push a few donations simple things like that it's nice to have but with Taylor she's so mad massive and she hits a particular demographic that yes already leans Democrat but doesn't vote as much as you'd like to see if Taylor Swift's fans were all white Suburban women in their 70s or 80s then you'd like to see it but those women are already going to vote and a lot of them are going to vote for kamla and so like the turnout effect isn't going to be that big but Taylor's endorsement it repeats itself every day it's like Groundhog Day for Trump because every single day you can look and say this move the polls cuz it's that big of a deal it hits a demographic that when they vote they vote blue and they vote heavily blue and you can see it not just in Vibes and not just in narrative but in cold hard data hundreds of thousands of people registering to vote and it's got to be 90% of those people that she's driving maybe more are going to vote for the Democrats so every single night from now into the election Taylor's endorsement is replayed over and over again as every single person registers it's the endorsement that never ends and that's bad for Trump
