Doctors are warning the public of a surge in COVID cases and they are also urging us to all consider those who are still high risk. 500 new COVID cases have been reported in Lucas County in the last two weeks. That's according to the state and Maya May joins us live after talking with experts at Pro Medica. So Maya should these numbers concern us here in Toledo Kaylee Tim doctors with Pro Medica, tell me fewer cases are being reported. So the numbers are not an accurate reflection of how many people have COVID-19 right now. Even though cases are surging today, the doctors say because fewer people are being tested and a lot of home tests are being taken, there is no way to track every case so they could be higher than we know. This is why the experts want to warn the public to use caution if you have any symptoms or signs of a virus. Doctors say it's less important to define if you have COVID or other respiratory viruses, but instead just knowing that you have one means you should stay home for at least 24 hours and for the following five days. You should wear a mask and be extra vigilant with your hygiene. It's really important to point out that COVID still can be a severe illness for certain risk groups. And we all know what the risk groups are. Now. People with a lot of other health problems. Obesity is a risk and then age is a risk too. So the average person without risk, most of the time they recover spontaneously at home with relatively mild symptoms. The newest strain of COVID is known as K three. The vaccines targeting this strain is in pharmacies this week for now. I'm Maya may reporting live in East Toledo for WTO L 11.
