so qualifying for the 2024 Italian Grand Prix has been completed we know who is starting at the front of the grid the back of the grid and everywhere in between so let's get into five things that we learned from the Italian Grand Prix qualifying so first of all I'm going to highlight Franco kapino taking place in his first Formula 1 weekend and therefore also taking place today in its first ever Italian well in first ever Grand Prix qualifying as a whole He qualified in p8 which might seem a little bit on spectacular only beating the saas in 19th and 20th but at the end of the day he's no worse than where Logan Sergeant would have been and I reckon that that Williams in full racing spec is going to be a rocket ship down the straight because his teammate did very well today Alex Alon I'll speak about him in a little bit but he could have done better In fairness though he did make a mistake on his second qualifying run going wide at the lesmos and ruining his his second lap time but still p8 not too bad at all on your first opening Gambit when coming in midseason like this as a rookie know L as well it is very difficult to perform second of all I'm going to highlight Kevin Magnuson now Magnuson got through to Q2 but that was really as good as it got for him because he ended up having some kind of mechanical failure during q1 going through the parabolica having to slow down and Coast into the pit Lane that meant that he lines up p15 as a result and in fact another driver who's um who teammate did very well today niik hulkenberg doing really well today in qualifying but I will speak about him for the third thing that I'm going to highlight is just how dominant the top four teams are I mean we had the Red Bulls the McLaren the Mercedes and the Ferraris all making it through to Q3 and the only exceptions to these guys were Nico hulkenberg in the H and Alex albon in the Williams both of them doing a standout job best of the rest if you will ninth and 10th Alex albon ending up P9 and hulkenberg mp10 very impressive from the pair of them good points hopefully on the cards for Williams in particular they need has have gone a little while about scoring points as well so that would be very much welcome with the American outfit too the fourth thing that we learned is that red bull are slow I mean we kind of had a inkling about this really after the after the Friday practice I mean I highlighted how poor Red Bull were in P2 think they were like what 14 from 15 for something like that they were well off everybody else um I didn't want to I didn't you know you didn't really believe you didn't think oh they can't be this bad surely you'd think that they're going to get something out of this weekend but they genuinely look slow they genuinely look slow Max was Da been lining up p7 today sorry for tomorrow's race and Sergio perz in p8 Max sappin lost it going through parabolic a lost time on his first lap and on his second lap wasn't really a mistake in there his car was just genuinely genuinely slow throughout all the chicanes really mean it look awful going through a scari so Red Bull are going to do well score good points even in the hands of Max mustafin they look a good chunk of time off of Ferrari Mercedes and McLaren but who got Pole Position well it is none other than Lando Norris he headed up a McLaren one two he qualified around one tenth of a second ahead of his teammate after that it was pretty tight In fairness George Russell in P3 the Ferraris fourth and fifth and leis Hamilton would you say disappoint in P6 I don't know I mean it's going to be close tomorrow no matter what I mean I I expected Lewis to probably get poll position and the win tomorrow but we he's going to have a job on doing that from six place but his teammate George Russell is definitely in with a shout McLaren seemed to have a highspeed package that really works for them is really showing that that car can perform around highspeed tracks such as Monza so yeah Will Lando Norris be able to hold Pole Position after the end of the first lap he's never managed it in any of his previous six pole positions if you include Sprint polls as well so we'll see how that gets on but McLaren no matter what really are looking very very strong have to say very very impressed with them I did not see them being the fastest car this weekend everybody was saying it coming into this I'm just thinking no no they not too great around highspeed tracks but they they've shut me up and as a McLaren fan I'm very happy about that so yeah guys what were your main takeaways from the Italian gr pre-qualifying let us know in the comments below and of course keep it subscribe follow like share comment all that good stuff and ring the bell as well to see much more Formula 1 content here on the F1 chronicle.com we're going to be reacting to the Formula 3 the Formula 2 and the F1 race all tomorrow on the channel so stay tuned for more F1 content on the way
