The Broward Sheriff's Office has a message for students and parents after that threat went viral on social media. Local ten Saira Anwar. She's joining us live in Fort Lauderdale with more. >> Andrew. That threat was made through a social media post listing several school names and cities throughout Broward County. School leaders and law enforcement making sure people know that making a threat like this comes with severe consequences. Posts on social media threatening several Broward County schools. The school district sending out this message to parents and students writing the district is, quote, working closely with local law enforcement to determine the credibility of the threat and taking steps to identify those responsible. Concern heightened following last Wednesday's mass shooting at a Georgia high school where police say a 14 year old student shot and killed four people and injured nine. The FBI has since traced threatening social media posts to the then 13 year old, who denied making posts he and his father now face murder charges locally, Broward County Sheriff's Office releasing a statement writing in part, quote, parents, please remind your children that making a threat against our schools is a felony and carries lifelong consequences, including arrest, expulsion and severe disciplinary measures. The school threat takes place and comes out right now, you'll start seeing everyone kind of integrating, working together. This is what Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony told local ten last year while leading a tour of Bso's real time crime Center, created in part to mitigate the threat of school violence. >> Most of these threats that they're introducing into the community, one will impact in some form of felony charge, which is going to be on their record for the rest of their life. The second thing that is being missed and not discussed is the amount of resources it takes for our organized nation to respond to any threat that comes up, Broward County School Board member Debbie Hickson releasing this statement to local ten saying, quote, it is so frustrating that this keeps happening. >> The threats are serious and the anxiety it causes students and staff is unforgivable. Whoever made this threat should be punished with severe consequences. So at last update, the Broward Sheriff's Office says it was still evaluating the credibility of that threat.
