all right guys what's going welcome back to everything College podcast today me and Nick be looking at our top 10 impact transfer quarterbacks for 20124 a lot of movement once again on the quarterback market and getting things right underway Nick we're going to start with number 10 Brock Vander leaving Georgia for Kentucky you know this is a guy that was a highly sought after recruit a former uh you know five-star guy coming out of high school um this is a player I think a lot of people very excited to see you know some of the notes we got from watching him in the spring games you know he's a confident player you know he has skills as a runner believe he can be a real danger in the pocket you know if he can tighten up that release you know the velocity isn't a plus but it's pretty high tier you know so it's kind of hard to try and knock that good speed on scrambles you know I thought he can throw in the run with some power what I did notice though it's kind of a negative you know is he really winds up when he throws he doesn't really have that Snappy release especially in some of the deep throws mechanics need to be worked on throws off his back foot a little bit too much I think a big negative here is that Liam Cohen he's no longer with Kentucky he left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers replacing Dave Canalis that might be big here because I think that you know Vander Griff probably you know envisioned you know improving you know vast majority under Cohen obviously this is a player that kind of compares to will Evis in a sense Nick and the you know film that we watch the tape he had coming out of high school some of the skills he has quarterback play last year it was pretty poor Deon ly was not all that great you know he was a lot of inconsistent play turned the ball over a lot accuracy was not good do you think the Vander Gruff is an immediate upgrade despite now not having as much experience as a guy like Deon ly did I'm a big fan of Brock Vandergriff I've always thought he was a solid quarterback I never thought he fit quite in it George I always figured of the rotation he was going to be the odd man out with the way that they have it set up in Athens and certainly with Carson Beck returning that makes it a lot harder for him at this point so Vandergriff heads to Kentucky I thought he was going to go to Auburn I thought that was a natural fit but he ends up going to Kentucky which I think I like the fit a lot there Vandergriff a very big physically strong quarterback 63 205 absolute Cannon of an arm very strong physical player you know appeared in eight games for Georgia this past season didn't do a whole lot mostly garbage time you know two touchdowns limited attempts but he looked good on the small sample size spring game as well you know I think his mechanics do need to be worked on the footwork is what concerns me the most I think the footwork is very sloppy it was sloppy in high school it's sloppy so far in college I want to see him kind of fix that and work on that I think he has a very strong arm very confident can scramble can really get out of the pocket Kentucky here this could be a big opportunity for them I think team is very set in Lexington and now they plug in a guy if he can really take off and be a star quarterback this could be great for the wild cats he's a very talented player who's got a whole lot of untap potential with that huge frame if he can boom and be really a really strong starter for this team Kentucky can find themselves in a good spot in the new look and Vandergriff is a coach's son so obviously has that pedigree there um and this is an offense that like you said Georgia didn't really make much sense this is a guy that seems he like a gunslinger wants to go out there and air it out Georgia you know you know more of a balanced approach physcal offensive line they don't exactly Chuck it out 45 times a game through the air Bush abden he's looking to install a college friendly offense and I think with the receiving do of Dan Keane Barry and brown they had a very nice Trio last season of pass catchers with Devon Larry's inconsistencies they missed significantly big play opportunities Nick and I think Vander Griff like you said with the Gunslinger mentality this might be the guy they' be able to put it on him because that's a great receiving Duo that the wild cats have they have a great wide receiving room up there in Lexington there's a lot of guys who can be impact players with Griff throwing the ball that air it out sort of deep ball mentality here College style offense could work really well with a big physical guy who can stand in the pocket and take hits he's not afraid to get hit with I I say with that massive frame he has and if the play bust he can kind of run out on his own and make something happen I think Vander Griff is a really talented player that plugs in here at Kentucky and makes a lot of sense for me as a quarterback transfer moving to number nine Michigan State's Aiden Charles and this is a guy who is one of the top you know ranked quarterbacks in this year's portal class but we have him down at number nine Nick because Michigan state has more issues that meet the eye you know wide receiver group is not great running back room you know it's been improved but they haven't been able to really get them involved over the last couple years of Mel Tucker's 10year it's just really a disaster in terms of support and cast and it seems like he might have to do you know too much early on I think that could certainly lead to you know negative plays for this football team so I think number Nine's a good spot for Charles I don't think he's going to come in and put up you know 4,000 yards or anything like that but I think you're certainly going to see great improvement from not just him but from this offensive him under Center this the guy was a true threat he has an easy release torches teams with his legs very effective in that option game shown the ability to throw and the run as well shows a nice feel for the game in the pocket obviously needs to keep adding size he's a smaller guy you know 63200 wasn't great versus The Blitz meaningful game reps you didn't really see it much you got to play you know a good amount of reps in every single game throughout the year almost but in terms of meaningful ones and you know late game situations and whatnot Nick he doesn't have any experience in that so that's something he's going to have to to learn here in the tough Big 10 especially if he doesn't have much help could be a big negative this year you didn't get to see him uncork many deep balls either you know my biggest questions can he be a field General from the pocket here in year one this is a guy has great upside 2435 for 309 yards and four touchdowns uh in his freshman season for the Beavers also ran for three touchdowns so he was able to get on the field right and they tried to force him into game action to get some meaningful reps and didn't really seem to work out it so they didn't do that too much more I think only seen it like one game I can't remember which contest it was but it did happen and I was like why is he out here on the field child though expects to be you know at least he's expected to be a star from this Michigan State fan base do you think they're in from some you know type of disappointment you know another player here in Childs who did not play a whole lot entering the portal and when you look at Michigan State this is a ground floor level rebuild right there starting from the bottom up there in East Lancing a complete disaster from the Mel Tucker era it started off hot and fell apart even quicker than that just an absolute disaster and now Charles FS his coach over here and they start to build something from the ground up the quarterback is always a key part to any sort of good rebuild here Charles I think he's a really talented quarterback we saw him in more games than we saw Vandergriff but he just played a lot of late minutes you know garbage time type minutes four passing touchdowns 68% com rate 300 yards passing needs to bulk up a little bit I think that's the size concerns me a little bit he is a TR do threat right he can run the ball certainly if he needs to very Shifty in that regard and they may rely on that a lot this year with the lack of talent around it might be on him to create a lot of plays and be able to do something with his feet I think having his head coach there again they can kind of tailor the offense around him and build something out of this I think this is a really good potential here long term I think this year you won't see a whole lot in a Michigan State cuz like I said this is a deep rebuild but Michigan State could be set in the future this is a good way to kind of start building those blocks towards being a contender again in the Big 10 where Michigan state has struggled as of late needs to keep adding size certainly has to be able to pick up the blitz a little bit better I was concerned with that I I don't know if he's going to be the best from the pocket but I think he has the Dual threat that can outweigh that and he can be a really solid quarterback in the future and you know that's why he's at number DS these are areas he's certainly going to improve on under Jonathan Smith to what tune we don't know but he will certainly improve as time goes on but I don't think it's going to be too you know when he Elite level here in year one especially again with no Supporting Cast look at number eight Will Rogers to Washington it seemed like he's a perfect fit from the get-go in kayin theor system Nick Sabin retires Fallout of that leads to Jet fish being the head coach for the huskies and Rogers I also expected him to remain his commitment there because this is still a very great offensive coach who's worked with plenty of great quarterbacks in his lifetime and Will Rogers he's going to reaffirm his commitment to the Huskies this is a guy who you know he's kind of a product of the system in Mississippi State right but he has shown the ability to be an accurate pocket passer thrives with that timing quick release some solid Mobility he's a calm poised player for the most part really leads his pass catchers like his ability to process he's a distributor that should do well in fish's system obviously they get you know Arizona last you're like the guy in the eye formation run the ball play action stretch the middle of the field so this is going to be a bit of an adjustment for Rogers though right and I think the arm strength causes him sometimes not push the ball down field has struggled versus pressure that was a big knock of all the quarterbacks in the late Mike leech's system you know if he holds the ball too long his mechanics can go poor have never really seen him rise up in big games either Nick that's one thing that certainly have been concerning I think some of these negatives will be improved on because he is a CM poised player right but stepping up in big games just never seemed to happen it seemed like the a in the SEC worked until you played some of these Elite defenses then it didn't work how do you think it's going to work here in the Big 10 and do you think he's a good fit for what they ran last year that was the always the issue with Will Rogers Mississippi state is when they played those tougher teams like Alabama and Georgia especially Alabama Nick sa had that Air Raid Offense figured out perfectly they struggled in all the games against Alabama during the Mike Leech tenure Will Rogers the second leading passer of all time in terms of yards in the SEC play he certainly would have had broken that record had he not gotten injured not too far far off behind Aaron Murray he now heads up to Washington with Jed fish where the fit with kin deor was perfect I think the fit with with Jed fish is also perfect this makes a lot of sense this is a guy that's going to air it out for you and be extremely productive if you can give him the opportunity to do so 36 passing touchdowns in 2021 35 in 2022 really incredibly accurate as well 73% comp rate in 21 68% comp rate in2 so very accurate passer those numbers took a a bit of a drop off in 23 but they were also transitioning the system with a new head coach there I think he's a fantastic quarterback I think the frame is great with him I think the pocket passer personality is fantastic he's a guy that goes out there and wants to throw the ball as much as he can he does not mind having so many attempts 683 attempts in 21 610 in 2022 so he's going to throw the ball certainly a lot you know he struggles against the blitz struggles against pressure that is definitely a concern and some of these big 10 defenses they're going to send a lot of pressure off the edges and make him uncomfortable which could certainly be a problem for Washington and Will Rogers but I think this system is perfectly set up for him he has a lot of talent still up there in the Pacific Northwest to throw to this could be a match made in heaven for the Huskies I guy was 12,000 career passing yards 94 touchdowns some pretty good numbers to not be on this list look at number seven Riley Leonard two Notre Dame this is guy we been a big fan of Nick and obviously last year he was nicked up and that really derailed his season led to some poor numbers on the stat sheet only three touchdowns and three picks didn't play over the you know final month and a half really he did play two games he clearly wasn't healthy you know they got shut out against Louisville he completed you know 44% or less in two straight games before just you know shutting him down for the rest of the year first half of the Season though Nick you know they were 4-0 should have beat the Irish right and then things got away from their late Leonard didn't have the greatest of games um but that was a game that Duke controlled and this is a guy who's been great for them against Clemson they ended up pulling away there to win that one by 21 but it was a big play sparked by him and his legs it really helped open up the scoring parade in a game where the defense really dominating dude you know this is a guy who good acceleration I like his speed has that gamechanging ability as a runner has good Vision I like his movements in the pocket you know he showcased some nice touch as a passer great leader with toughness as well accuracy versus good defense though been flat out abysmal identifying the blitz how do attack it a Bev average arm at best for Riley Leonard The Supporting Cast had a couple of good receivers had you know book in NFL offensive Prospect up on the offense of line had a great you know Trio of backs as well um but this Duke offense Nick you obviously if he was more healthy that would have been good for them um but it seems like he left a lot to be desire I think over the last two years especially as a passer and against good defenses it seems like they should have he should have been able to rise up a little bit more but this is a different receiving room they've added Bo Collins Chris Mitchell along with some of their other guys like great house and Thomas coming back is this the opportunity for Leonard to rise up and lead them to F farther things than Sam Hartman did or do you think this is a downgrade for the Irish when you look at Riley Leonard I think you have to look at the 2022 film the 2020 film you got to kind of write off a little bit due to the injuries and some of the inconsistent plays as he was banged up and clearly not 100% the 2022 film is fantastic though 63% comp rate nearly 3,000 yards passing 20 touchdowns six picks 700 yards rushing on the ground and 13 scores still had an impressive four scores and 352 yards on the ground in those seven games this is a guy that's a physical player he's willing to take hits I know the health has been an issue but it's 64 205 he's going to take those hits if he has to I like his accuracy at times you know yes it is an issue against some of the better defenses you can see that in the film he looked good against Clemson though early on as they upset Clemson in that opening game on that Monday night so I think that's a good positive film look at a great leader a really strong person in the locker room a guy that's going to ignite and kick the the fire on your team I really like what I've seen out of him good movements in the pocket can read the pressure pretty well under most circumstances here I thought Sam Harman wasn't the best fit when he came to Notre Dame but they had a lot of success with him so certainly bringing in a guy like L Leonard where I feel like the fit is better for the Fighting Irish that could have a lot of success for them good physical p that they can use in the running game as well this could work out great for the Fighting Irish I think the biggest news for them is Mike denrock he's coming back I remember when he left Cincinnati for LSU I was like you know him and janen Daniels are gonna be a perfect match made in heaven because of what Dan Brock was able to do with Desmond Ritter him and Jane Daniels are very similar type of player and what's Jen Daniels do he wins the Heisman Trophy Nick Riley Leonard another dual threat guy has a little bit more size than those two players did probably isn't as talented either but you know the toughness the leadership and of course that aention dual threat ability very similar to what he's worked with in the past and those are two guys that U have you know performed very well and led their team to great success I certainly think Dem Brock drawing up the plays is beneficial for Notre Dame here he's a great signal caller or a play caller who has a great signal caller on Riley Leonard here up in South Bley this works out perfectly you saw what he could do with Jaden Daniels I think Riley Leonard can have similar success I'm not going to say he can go out and win the Heisman right now but I think when you plug him in and have that Talent around him that Notre name is adding from the portal they're adding depth like they added Bo Collins who is a great ad they're able to reload and put some solid pieces here you know Notre Dame's going to have a great offensive line they're going to give him a lot of time to work in the pocket and a lot of time to give him the opportunity to make those reads and run if he has to this could work out very well look at number six the second Oregon State transfer quarterback on this list DJ OU young replacing Jordan Travis with Florida State this is a guy who's a big body quarterback moves very well for his size he got up to 252 pounds this past fall 6'4 as well obviously this is a five star coming out of high school has shown ability to be aggressive downfield as a passer with some nice accuracy you know good athlete who has game experience nice arm strength that thrives in the intermediate game um the biggest problem here with DJ ouay is ever since you know he had those two great games replace Trevor warrant right and we never really saw that again you know we saw certainly saw it at times just never consistency the accuracy just not isn't that impressive misses open targets late on one routes doesn't lry the ball with Precision just lacks that consistency Nick and I know he's six on our list this is a quarterback I'm just not all that confident in I wasn't very excited when they said he was going to go to a Miami or for the state who went undefeated last year I just didn't really seem to care because DJ uay has just really not that been that impressive I thought he did a good job in the system with Oregon State last year you know you know a strong heavy running game that has you know thrives off that play action and if you had better accuracy they could had bigger plays and they certainly had the weapons they were capable of winning downfield they had plenty of speed and this guy just wasn't always able to put it on him he didn't have any 300 yard games last year that's not the beaver's Philosophy by any means right but 21 touchdowns seven picks good numbers 2600 passing yards for that systems pretty good um but you put the numbers aside Nick and these are still concerns we saw on tape and for fora stay I think this is a downgrade for them I'm not really excited for DJ um I I know this is still a guy that was a former festar Talent had those two g games of greatness I just don't think it's going to Bow well for the Noles here I think it's going to cause them to lose games EJ is a player that continues to frustrating bug me come out of high school had all the talent in the world headed down to Clemson had those two games where he replace Trevor Lawrence during that Co year against Notre Dame against Boston College looked phenomenal in those two games I know they lost Notre Dame but it certainly wasn't his fault he put his heart on the line there and they played really well against the Eagles the week after I bought into the hype I'll admit I was the I'm the first one to admit I thought he was going have an absolute smashing campaign when he was first full year as a starter in 21 it did not work out that way at all they struggled he struggled and he started becoming the scapegoat down there in Clemson they blamed him which I don't think was very fair at all they had other issues as well had a better 2022 campaign sort of St staed to ship a little bit in Clemson had a better season overall heads to Oregon State I thought that was a great opportunity for him to kind of get out of the spotlight avoid that big pressure area and head to a more relaxed environment in Corvalis and really be able to use his skill set now he heads Back Into The Gauntlet to a tough environment with a fan base that's unforgiving at times down there in Tallahassee you know he didn't really impress me as well and the fact that he didn't really improve as much the stats from 2022 to 2023 are very similar right 61% com rate in 22 57% com rate in 23 three 2500 yards 2600 yards and 23 25 and 22 and then 22 touchdown 7 interceptions 21 touchdown 7 interceptions in the two years so really not a whole lot separating there very similar stat set across the board I think he has great potential still I think we haven't seen the full potential at him he's a big body quarterback moves well can read a defense very solid just the accuracy is an issue misses open targets really struggles with some of those complex routes does not have any consistency at all Florida State want to be competing they want to be in the playoff we saw what happened to them last year this is a downgrade I do agree with you it's not as big as a downgrade as some people say it is but there certainly are some issues here red flags could be flying if he struggles early on yeah I mean he had 10 interceptions to nine touchdowns in 2021 that first year as a starter Fort Clemson after you like you said two big starts in 20 FL out abysmal performance there being six on this list it might be too high I certainly think he's be more impactful some of the other guys I think Leonard might be able to get a nod over him um but DJ certainly does have some nice quality right and when he's on target he's a really good football player he's able to you know win games for his team through the air so I certainly don't want to focus on all the negative but overall I think this is kind of a middle of the pack ad there look at number five KJ Jefferson most people felt that you know him going over there with Gus melan always made sense considering melon was you know great with Cam Newton and KJ and cam pretty much identical players right that's what lot people have said in terms of size and speed um you know his ability to you know win as a runner be aggressive downhill have a strong arm you know this is a guy who's good in play action he's mentally grown as a leader and a player um this is a guy who's going to have to continue in certain areas though you know as an indecisive decision maker he he's the improve in that pre the post Snap recognition lackluster production last season for Arkansas as you know the Hogs were a flat out disappointment they should have been a lot better on both sides than they were Jefferson certainly wasn't the only one to blame right I mean they didn't have a run game at all they should have but you know Jefferson ended up being their leading rusher on only 2.8 yards per attempt so wasn't from a lack of trying right but when you get this many touches certain need to try and step up for your football team against not 100% on him but the regression shouldn't have been at the quarterback position I'm not shocked it happened Elsewhere on the roster right but for him to regress like he did Nick certainly a concern can Mazon get him back to playing at a high level this fit looks like one of the more natural fits on the list here Jefferson and Maan the cam the cam the Jefferson comparison makes a lot of sense Maan a great quarterback Creator we had then a a lot of great work of John rice Plumley when he was healthy this could work out as well I am certainly concerned the drop production is extremely concerning when you look at 21 and 22 he was a phenomenal in my opinion 67% comp rate in 21 68% comp rate in 22 21 touchdowns four picks in 21 24 touchdowns and five picks in 2022 and then when you look at 2023 it just drops off 64% comp rate 2100 yards 19 touchdowns eight interceptions just a bad drop off there a big physical quarterback 63 245 that frame is just phenomenal in my opinion really works out great but the rushing was not there either had nine rushing touchdowns in 22 had nine uh six rushing touchdowns to 21 only had two this past season really struggled the attempts were there but they just got no yards like I said 2.8 yards per attempt Arkansas were flat at this appointment across the board and a lot of that is not to blame on KJ Jefferson but you have to be concerned when you watch the film is some of those regression is that going to carry over to Orlando is that going to cause him to have some issues at UCF think it's certainly possible that's why we put him here at five a lot of potential to Boom here but also a lot of potential to bust yeah I think this is a guy who's going to have great production this year for UCF I mean you look at the first month schedule New Hampshire Sam Houston TCU Colorado me some defenses there that he's going to absolutely eat I think this is a guy you're going to see Heisman odds get slashed in half not sure what they're at right now but if I had the guess they're pretty lengthy I think they're gonna get slashed in half the first half of the year I think this is a guy who really going to put up a lot of production can he do that throughout the year I think it's possible in this big 12 I think Jefferson it's kind of going to be expected where he's going to show up here he's absolutely going to dominate I think that's going to be the expectation for Jefferson you know 44500 yard season that's my expectation from Jefferson Nick you you think that's too Hefty when you look at the schedule again if you take a brief look at it seems like it's an opportunity for him to really run up the stat the schedule in the conference playing in the Big 12 is certainly favorable for a guy like him who has that dual threat capability with a great offensive mind drawing up the plays I'll be a little more conservative I'll go just kind of below what you said I think it's close to those numbers but I can't quite exactly have him that high I think he has a lot of opportunity here the schedule is favorable like I said this is a boomer bus kind of guy this could completely be a star match made in heaven or this could be a disaster if Things Fall Apart quickly only time will tell looking at number four you know will Howard Ohio State you know we broke this down about a month or so ago more in depth so we won't spend too much time on it you know Howard was going to go to USC the Miller Moss balls out in the bowl game and they're like yeah maybe we don't need to go to the portal for a quarterback Howard ends up at Ohio State natural pocket pass over the big arm this is a guy with plenty of Mobility willing Runner that falls forward with his size very impressive speed for being you know 65 242 he's ripped off plenty of big runs really showcased nice patience when he identifies a winnable matchup or the open man in the passing game he's a live runner at the goal line you know think he has that nice balance of being able to throw the ball and be uh you know a runner has a tendency to force the ball in the traffic though you know he had 10 picks this past season accuracy and efficiency certainly something questionable as well coming off you know a career high of only a 61% completion percentage this is a much better scheme and system it seems for a quarterback like this Nick I think Ryan day is gonna be able to get some of that untap potential out of him um they ran Kyle mcord out of town but if some of the negatives here with Howard stick then they might be wanting to do the same to him as well Ohio State won a national championship they ran K C out of town they bring in will Howard to be the guy to get them over the Finish Line Howard I think he's a great quarterback good pocket passer big physical frame solid in the pocket really good arm 64 235 can take a hit if he needs to looks good good at Kansas State you know 24 touchdowns 10 interceptions not the worst ratio 2600 yard passing 61% comp rate here certainly fits into this better system up there in Columbus Tennesse the first Force the ball like you said does concern me I think the 10 picks is a little concerning I think some of that accuracy is questionable decision making late in the game could certainly cause a problem when you're playing in those high pressure situations against your Michigan and your other big teams in the Big 10 you know Washington Oregon teams like that I think he's a great player really nice Mobility a willing Runner who's going to get out there and take a hit if he has to and die for the goal line and clutch situations this could be a great fit here in Columbus he's a big physical player slot in there perfectly this could really work out well look at number three the guy that he is replacing Kyle mcor going to Syracuse you know this is a guy who obviously wasn't awful by any means but when you're at Ohio State you got to play at that CJ Stroud level they didn't get that in the form of five star this is a strong armed player Rip balls into Windows showed good accuracy you know the ability to work all areas of the field I like this pocket structure I thought he you know managed it very well well showed good Poise especially on third down you looked at the Notre Dame game the Michigan game he was very resilient in that one obviously you know he he got you know 30 yards away from keeping his job Nick that's pretty much you know 30 40 yards away was you know hit on that throw caused the season ending interception this is a guy that I think was kind of treated unfairly um but we understand it right because this is a guy you know he had 3100 yards 24 touchdowns just the growth for the passing attack stalled out we expected it to be slow and you saw that won against Indiana and you figed it'd kind of get better week and week by week with all the weapons they had and it just stalled out they never seemed to really you know match the level of expectation that they should have you know the Notre Dame game I think was a great example uh you know week four of what they had in this young man and I think he did a great job delivering there uh you know played a very good game against Penn State as well you know as the year went on he played better football right Nick um but it just wasn't good enough and that's why he ends up here at Syracuse I think he's very happy to kind of be out of the Limelight this is a guy who lacks the mobility though consistency downfield s a little iffy um where's the confidence Nick again you know a couple yards away you know a few plays away from the college football playoff and here he is now in New York you have to imagine Kyle mcord has his confidence shot I think this is an opportunity for him to show that hey the grass isn't always greener in Columbus he goes out and has an incredible uh career or season in Upstate New York you know Fran Brown comes in and kind of transforms a program that was kind of you know stagnant ardino babers they weren't going to really hit any new heights they kind of reached their their ceiling with him Fran Brown comes in he starts hitting the portal hard starts hitting recruiting immediately and grabs his new guy and Kyle McCord McCord gets less pressure you know a less rabid fan base in the ACC and Upstate New York Syracuse a lot certainly of a a less eyes there he is still a fantastic quarterback I don't care what anyone says I think he was fairly untreated he's a guy that I love I think he's a great opportunity 63 210 really good quarterback in the pocket 65% com rate 3100 yards 24 touchdown six picks but obviously the one pick that matters the most is the one he wants back is the throw against Michigan that cost Ohio State this season they want national championships in Columbus and if you don't deliver it you're going to be on the first bus out of town and that's what mcco learned the hard way he goes to Syracuse has a great opportunity with the orange in my opinion strong arm to rip the ball into Tight Windows very accurate really solid player consistency is an issue definitely has no Mobility as well you know you really don't see him flushing out of the pocket and running kind of stalls out occasionally but if you can get his confidence up Focus learn the Playbook get comfortable in Syracuse throw to his targets the the the the skill set's going to be a little bit less certainly as well he's not going to have as many talented receivers to throw to but he still has a lot of opportunity here this could be a complete boom opportunity I think Syracuse the schedule is not very tough for the orange if he has a great season and they're firing at all cylinders they could be a sleeper for the playoff this could be a match made in heaven and a guy that does have some nice receivers number two cam Ward heading to Miami this guy I've always been a fan of you know he was a star Incarnate Word was a pretty underrated transfer a couple years back went to Washington State coming off a pretty good season 3700 yards 300 plus yards per game 25 touchdown Downs nearly 500 attempts in back-to-back Seasons this kind of air raid system he's played behind one of the worst offensive lines in football though the last two years Nick I think they had 10 sacks allowed against UCLA that Elite defensive line I I mean it was awful and that's really where the St the fall started for Washington State where they were on a tear the first month of the year right and then they lost you know they pretty much the rest of the year they only had one win the rest of the season after that October 7th lost to the Bruins um and and I think the confidence was really shot with this quarterback after that Nick I mean you got to play scared at that point why don't you get a hit that many times he's a got you know great natural arm though nice quick release good ball handler he's pretty creative thrower you know he has ideal Mobility he can throw on the run pretty clutch player you know he's rolls up in big moments I think he attacks his own coverage pretty well need's to continue to anchor down those mechanics though Ys for attempt number is pretty concerning as he doesn't always scan and work the scheme can be you know too quick to leave the pocket bit of an agile player as well when you're playing in the air raid obviously you're making quick decisions but if you're not Stu stopping his skan and there were typically most of your reads are going to be available right Nick you can't do that that's a little concerning 7.7 yards per attempt this past season six and a half in 2022 obviously that's not great you know playing in that scheme he's got those talented receivers jacobe George Xavier Resto he declared for the draft right and I was like well this seems a little fishy seems like he's going to try and play some nil right and well I was right he came back he made his decision to go to Miami after not signing an agent obviously that was a complete playy against the syst Nick to get a little bit more money it worked out the Hurricanes got their guy you know this is a guy in cam W that when he first transferred from internet Ward to Washington State no offensive cougars fans I couldn't believe that he was going there the film on him is phenomenal at that level I really thought that he could have gone to any number of the higher tier programs in college football he went out west you know the the numbers of the yardage number is fantastic right 3200 yards 3700 yards 64% comp rate 66% com rate 23 touchdowns nine picks and 22 25 touchdowns seven picks and 25 with one of the worst offensive line getting battered every single week I think there's a ton of room to grow here when he committed the draft like when when he was interested in the draft I agreed with you that it just seemed like a ploy for nil and he got his money and the canes got their quarterback a lot of people thought that Miami was a quarterback away from being real contenders in the ACC it didn't work out with Tyler van djk and now they have a guy who I think is Leaps and Bounds better in cam Ward a great natural arm Talent a guy that's fantastic really can be clutch if he needs to be in those big moments when he has the opportunity not very agile I think I worry about that as well you know kind of gets concerned with I'm sorry he is very agile leaves the pocket a little too much which can be a problem at times he doesn't let the play develop if his first Read's not there he'll tend to kind of flush out and roll out of there and try and bust a play that doesn't need to be done like that he's a very talented player I think he's a really incredible arm and that air raid really can work he has a ton of talented players at Miami and they'll certainly have a better offensive line than Washington state did if he can be held upright the entire game and not get knocked down you know 10 12 times a game they could have the opportunity to air this out and be really really efficient offense that put up a lot of points you know I certainly think in Shannon Dawson system you're going to have to play quarterback more than you did at Washington State and obviously the yards per attempt number pretty similar to that of a guy like Will Rogers who was in a similar scheme but that was a guy was also very you know worked the scheme and he was very productive to a greater tune than cam Ward does look at some honorable mentions here obviously there's a lot of quarterbacks going in this cycle some that didn't make the list that will probably end the year being a top 10 impact performer dquan Finn to Baylor from Toledo a guy who's a really good runner he's gotten better as a pocket passer I think they want to continue to develop him though maai Nelson Boise State very interesting when he decided to transfer from USC as a former highend Five Star Lincoln Riley said you're not ready to play and when he says that the rest of the country listens when he entered the portal Nick the team's pursuing him wasn't impressive list one bit ends up in Idaho Malik Murphy Duke I think this is a guy who's really going to have a productive season if he can beat out Grayson lus over there for the Blue Devils I think you know a 3,000 type a 3,000 yard type season 25 touchdowns I think Murphy might be able to do that Nick you know he played good uh for Texas against Kansas State at least in the first half of that game after that it's almost like he kind of forgot how to play quarterback I think this is a guy who when he doesn't have to get forced into those tough situations where he did over that you know two game stretch where ears was hurt and this guy can you know be the starter for the entire season work and develop I think he could be a very productive player as a nice little dual threat there he was a former four star in his own right Tyler sha going from Texas Tech over to Louisville you know this is a guy that I've never really been impressed with but Nick you decided to throw him on the list yeah I like Tyler sh I think this is an opportunity at Louisville an offense that will be a lot better for him you know Jeff Braum air raid type offense I think he can plug in there they'll have a lot of talented you know Louisville made a ton of moves in the portal we talked about them earlier in the offseason they added a lot of talented wide receivers for him to throw to I think the system works out better Shia has a lot of experience it didn't work out great at Texas Tech obviously his tenure ended kind of rough for him but I think he's a quarterback that has good experience a player that's been around college football when you plug him into that air rate system with the better weapons up there in Louisville I think it'll work out great I think if he can find himself learn the Playbook get fully confident this off season he could have a lot of success for the Cardinals and of course we can't forget Grayson McCall is he gonna have a top 10 impact under Robert andai really not sure because Brandon Armstrong they kind of modified that scheme for him uh to to not be you know very productive like he was at Virginia it's kind of a weird thing going on with VY state but this is a player people have kind of Forgotten of didn't have the greatest 2023 season 24 touchdowns two picks 2700 yards and 22 27 scores three picks uh in 2021 highly accurate quarterback he's a true dual threat as well this is a player who's very good and I think they're certainly going to kind of do the same thing they did last year of Armstrong they're going to get his legs involved going to let for him you know stretch the middle of the field and then Jordan McLoud to Texas State you know this is originally Jaden Delora you know I didn't know this until earlier today actually Nick that Jaden Delora has actually after transferring to Texas State withdrawn from school entered the NFL draft after sett settling a case from many years ago didn't really look into too many other details but Texas state with GJ Kenny in his scheme it did wonders for TJ Finley I think I was very excited to see Delora but I'm very excited to see Jordan McLoud as well who had a big season for James Madison this is a guy who's transferred Arizona USF he's been all over the place right and he finally met his calling there for JMU 3600 yards 35 touchdowns he was a very productive player eight scores as a runner as well GJ Kenny is goingon to have a field day with this quarterback Jaden dores legal issues is is a gain for Jade Jordan McLoud who comes over from JMU and plugs in at Texas State we saw what they able to do with TJ Finley who looked really good in that offense and really had a great season I think McLoud has a great opportunity to play in that offense that's a really setup for the quarterbacks like him to succeed I think he can plug in and be successful for Texas State immediately a really high opportunity for him to just get some good experience he's been with four programs so he's bounced around a lot looked really good at JMU last year now as a great opportunity a new program in Texas State gra McCall I think that's a very interesting one on this list I feel like he kind of should have struck while the iron was hot he's kind of cooled off since 2021 season at at Cal Carolina I feel like people kind of forgot about him because he missed that opportunity to transfer while stock was the highest he now transfers and HS up in NC State I think the match could be a very nice match the offense we worried about it last year Brennon Armstrong wasn't very successful for the for that offense you plug in Mall here will they find more success I think it's certainly possible yeah McCall seemed like he was going to go to Auburn at one point a couple years ago but I guess some academic issues held him back there look at number one Dylan Gabriel going to Oregon just seems like such a great fit Bo Knicks the departing after you know career changing tenure for him in the duck Jeff leby departs from Oklahoma for Mississippi State so Gabriel goes ahead and heads out west boatload of weapons boatload of money offensive line going to be Stout whatever you want to call it right this is a guy who showcased great ability to Chang the game of his legs this past season nice confidence versus single coverage good fit for the RPO with the ability to stretch the field of a nice Arc nice quick release you know he protects the ball has a nice pump fake as well showcase good downfield accuracy doesn't have the strongest arm we can struggle to generate impactful velocity in the intermediate range and Beyond without you know slowing down his delivery won't always set his feed and he certainly lacks that size uh you know this is a quarterback who help you know manufacture an offense put up 42 points per game this past season 42 total touchdowns six picks had nearly 4,000 yards um this is a player that was really good 511 204 he's a veteran he's experienced I think he's going come in here for will Stein's offense he's going to be great guys like Evan Stewart and Tess Johnson to work with the team is very good for him in terms of NFL projection probably not so much um but he's going to be productive this year Nick this is exactly who you want replacing B Knicks great job by Oregon Oregon looks to be in a great spot as they enter the Big 10 here Dylan Gabriel is a fantastic player when he was at UCF in 2019 and 2020 everyone loved watching him such a talented player obviously injury was a big deal for this guy he was such a talented player 70 passing touchdowns to 14 interceptions during his UCF career incredible numbers across the board looked better at Oklahoma at times right you know has more accurate oklah a 66% comp rate a little bit less yardage but only played two seasons for the Sooners 55 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in those two seasons he ends up over here at Oregon it's a natural fit B Knicks reignited his career and I you I think Dylan Gabriel's in a better spot in his career than b knck was so the sky is certainly the limit he's a really strong player the arm strength is a bit of an issue you know lacks a little bit of size but outside that I think there's a lot of green flags for him here nice pump fake protects the ball like I said doesn't didn't have a whole lot of turnovers during his career 14 at UCF 12 Oklahoma so he's very good with that the highest he had in the season was seven so he's been you know single digit turnovers in his in every season in his career he's a guy that's got a great attitude a really nice fighter in the locker room a guy that's going to step in there and be a leader Dan Lanning loves those type of players here and now he's got his guy in Gabriel I think the sky's the limit for Oregon this could be a great match for them as they look to try and win the Big 10 and be competitive and make the playoff and one concerning those drawn up against Kansas you know it was one of his worst games of the year through the air as it was raining he's got smaller hands and that certainly was evident there this isn't going to be any better in terms of weather out here in Eugene Nick I think certainly you know in some of those rainy nights or days you know against tougher opponents could be an issue for him he was able to step up and be a game changer of his legs that happened to be the best day of the year for him running the football with three touchdowns do you think that's something that you know obviously we'll talk about it if you know there's weather in the area for that game um I kind of a silly question right but that's something that was certainly evident against Kansas and that caused them to lose that game that's pretty much you know downfall of their season is something you have to look at you know they do have tougher schedule late a tougher schedule late in the season at Michigan on November 2nd at Wisconsin over 16th so obviously the weather could be poor in those two games you might have snow potentially in that situation the weather up in Oregon is not the best in the winter part as well very rainy so it can be an issue I'm looking at another game at Purdue on October 19th that's a night game it can get cold and West Lafayette at night in those on those late October evenings so that can be a problem we'll address that obviously on a case-by casee basis at this point in time I'm not as concerned about I they're going to work on that and kind of uh you know build a plan to deal with that it is concerning though the weather is certainly a lot worse in Oregon than it was in Oklahoma and Central Florida for today's episode as always Nick I appreciate joining and breaking down these transfer quarterbacks pretty good class we have here I think we have a couple of these guys that will you know battle for Heisman Podium honors um you know Dylan Gabriel obviously headlining it but a lot of guys here that are going to do a lot of good things for the new team a fantastic class in this new nil portter era portal era every year you're going to have great class people are able to go out and get the quarterback they want teams can just add signal callers at will a lot of guys enter the portal a lot of guys are going to have impacts early on I'm super excited to see what Kyle McCord can do Brock Vander gliff at Kentucky another guy I'm super excited for and Dylan Gabriel I think he's got a ton of potential and opportunity to succeed at Oregon make sure you guys like comment subscribe see you next time fantastic
