chaos in week two Northern Illinois goes into Southbend and stuns fifth rank Notre Dame the fight in Irish not showing much fight losing 16 to4 as a 28-point favorite they had a 62 yd field goal try as time expired but the huskys blocked it biggest win in Northern Illinois history the first win over a top 10 team in school history and for more we welcome in two-time Super Bowl champ Bryant mcfaden and 247 sports college football analyst Brad Crawford Notre Dame going to slip big time in the rankings Duke transfer Riley Leonard has yet to throw a touchdown in the first two weeks of the Season tossed two interceptions in this massive upset BAC you think Notre Dame's chances at making the playoffs are over or is there still like a sliver of Hope over over over yeah I ask this question again how long has disco been dead for a very long time right yeah I feel like some people still like disco they still listen to it aord player you know yeah but for me I think they're over because number one Brad they're not in a conference where you get an automatic bid if you were to win your conference right so that is a slight for Notre Dame number two they lost to Northern Illinois northern Illinois was a 20o underdog in this 28 point Underdog in this matchup so one thing we know about the committee and when it comes to talking about team teams that are not undefeated trying to see if they can get into the playoffs style points matter and who you lose to it matters also that's a very very bad loss and then the last point that I'm making in regards to Notre Dame playoff hopes potentially being dead Brad is that their schedule when you look at the rest of their schedule outside of USC and I understand you have Louisville who's currently ranked right now in the top 25 but outside of Louisville who's ranked in the top 25 and us it's a favorable schedule moving forward so they don't have any opportunities to really gain style points and based on the teams they beat and how they beat them because USC is going to be a competitive team I think if they stay healthy they're going to have a fighting chance to get into the playoffs I don't know I can't say that right now about Louisville so those are the things that I look at when you look at Notre Dame and what happened today and why I feel like their hopes of getting into the playoffs are very very very slim to Brad you agree with bmac I think Notre Dame can actually get in the playoffs still as the 10 or 11 seed maybe even the 12 seed if they finish 11 to1 n BAC they certainly put themselves in a horrible position today losing Northern Illinois probably a bowl team though Northern Illinois is but there are games left on the schedule Notre Dame can kind of hop back from the low 20s to the to the mid teens and getting that mix Louisville obviously unbeaten right now top 20 team USC at the end of the year and if Texas A&M continues to win maybe gets to a nine and3 type Mark in the then that's a good win too so it's a game that Notre Dame did not expect to lose this early certainly won Marcus Freeman is going to have nightmares about he's already lost to Marshall and Stanford his first couple years Notre Dame and this is another very tough pill to swallow in South Bend it happened at home too so the committee is not going to look fa at Notre Dame right now I have a question for both of you guys Brad hakee how would you view Notre Dame to that hypothetical if they were to finish their season with only one loss happening to Northern Illinois right and you have let's say a mouri in the SEC they have two losses but those two losses happen to SEC opponents more competitive would they get the nod over a one loss not to name Brad you have you have the first word here sure we have to look at who the good wins are missou has I mean cuz Missouri and Old Miss two SEC teams that I have in my top 10 both of them play extremely favorable schedules now it's not quite as light as what Notre Dame has but if Notre Dame one of their quality wins is an SEC team in A&M you got to look at who Missouri beats too and if Missouri loses its only two games against top 15 competition this season than B I don't know if the Tigers have any quality wins either but I don't I don't see a scenario man in a 11 win Notre Dame team not getting in a 12 team playoff if they run the table they're getting in yeah that's I'm just telling you I I you you you have a valid point but if we think that USC is what we think they're going to be and if that's USC's only loss to Notre Dame they're both getting in because now we have 12 teams USC and Notre Dame will be in if they're both 11- one lock I just I I feel like I know I I know the prestige that Notre dang brings with them correct which is why they'll get in because you know this you know this whole you know the style points you say it all the time you know I'm not you don't even know I have to bring what up happened last season to your to your squad so my point to you is it just because now it's 12 teams not four still a TV show okay yeah also too you have to factor in what happens in the the conference Championship Games you might have an undefeated team no you won't I don't think there will be an undefeated team gets the championship but it could happen right playing against a two lost team yeah right and that two lost team could win their conference they get an automatic bid Georgia could run the table yeah I mean they got a big one coming up too though so that mean like what we saw in the SEC Championship game last year with Alabama having a loss well they had one or two loss I can't remember but Georgia was undefeated and then Georgia lost and Alabama goes in in this 12 team playoffs the loser if you're undefeated you're going to the playoffs and that winner regardless of how many losses you you had up to that point you get into the playoffs as well so it's just a factor in of how things work out the Big 12 have some competitive teams I guess most importantly for Notre Dame they can't afford to have any more blemishes on their record for this to become a reality for them to get in the play they cannot yeah uh the fifth team in the nation loses and so does the 10th team in the nation Michigan dominated by number three Texas Brad how far does Michigan fall in the rankings and what's your outlook for the Wolverines rest of way including a game against USC in two weeks yeah I think Michigan Falls from 10 to around 18 or 19 this was not a respectable showing at home for a team that had you know won 15 consecutive games dating back to last year had a long home winning streak and now has quarterback issues Davis Warren threw two picks today had that late touchdown pass but if I'm Chiron Moore man I'm really wondering how I'm going to look offensively moving forward Michigan's a team that I thought was probably going to be a eight or nine win team and they kind of got exposed here in week two Texas showed that on the road they looked apart as a playoff Contender at the top of the SEC alongside Georgia so Michigan's a team that you know I've got the big 10 getting three teams in the playoff Michigan's not one of them man right now I think Ohio State Oregon and Penn State are those three big dogs in the Big 10 maybe maybe USC fourth but Michigan's a team you see the schedule there there's still some tough matchups left man nationally rank USC coming to an arbor here in a couple weeks got to go to Washington of course there's Oregon Ohio State so chirome Moore has his work cut out for him the rest of the way after taking one on the chin against hookum and an improved Illinois team that just upset Kansas I know right so don't sleep on Illinois either I'm right there with Brad I think noted um Michigan my bad will fall in the late teens uh mathematically speaking they still have an opportunity to get into the playoffs right they still do but to Brad's Point what we've watched even going back to last week's game against Fresno yeah they won by 20 points but they struggled mightily on the offensive side either quarterback who jumped into the line didn't provide a spark and those same problems surface against Texas who oh by the way they're a better team on either side of the football field and they got exposed dramatically I see the same the same hurdles surfacing for Michigan throughout the rest of their way and you I think there are a few more losses going that that will happen for the wver on their schedule so mathematically speaking they still got a shot but in reality until I see sound production coming from the quarterback play to kind of jump start some chemistry offensively I don't think they have a shot they're going to lose in two weeks USC it's going to happen it's going to happen where are the UN unless they can figure out the quarterback situation well like I I asked the question is JJ McCarthy coming back in the lock room he's not okay I mean he's not coming back for the Vikings either this year unfortunately so exactly so they don't have they didn't get they didn't get a quarterback in the transfer portal so this is what you have to work with yeah what you want me what we want to say they could have went got Kyle McCord but Syracuse got him four touchdowns Syracuse is enjoying that experience 19point loss for Michigan the fifth largest home loss ever by a reigning National Champion three streaks snapped for the Wolverines a 16 game winning streak which was the longest active FBS win streak a 23 game home winning streak comes to an end and it spped a 29 game regular season winning streak which was the longest streak in Big 10 history
