Jordan Love: MCL Sprain Injury/NFL

all right uh welcome to do a little Sports I'm a medical student in the middle of uh Sports Medicine block and so I figured what better way to further cement this information then to uh teach it to you guys so let's Jump Right In um um let's talk about Jordan love so as you can see uh had a knee injury a couple nights ago um last couple seconds of the game uh after they took an MRI looks like he had a grade one grade two one or the other calling it an MCL sprain uh sprain is just uh basically when you have a tear some sort of tear of a ligament um in this case it's a a ligament on the the inner or kind of inside portion of the knee um so yeah tough break of course but doesn't sound like it's season ending so that's good uh grade one grade two uh sprain it just means that it's likely to just just a partial tiar um You probably saw him in pain on the field limping off uh normally if it's a clean tear uh they won't feel any pain at all so that's usually a good indicator that it's uh not as tough an injury as it looks like on the onset uh but yeah so far they're saying it's uh it's one of those uh MCL sprain so looks like he'll be out for about three to six weeks um treatment I would say uh you know protect the knee of course as much as possible they're most likely going to use uh one of those hinge braces hinge knee braces uh they want to kind of keep that knee in a fixed position for as long as possible to create some stability and uh well of course finally there will be some um some physical therapy so you know trying to recreate and reestablish motion and functional Motion in that knee uh so yeah not so bad as it looked initially but uh hopefully a quick recovery doesn't look like he'll need surgery at this time um based on the MRI that they use to uh identify that soft tissue and see what it looks like so yeah uh so yeah we'll we'll see what happens I'm in the middle of a study break so of course if there's any updates um on my next study break you'll hear from me and uh we'll go from there uh let me know know if you like this format or you prefer if um I do more diagrams or draw things out or use some sort of software uh but yeah we'll uh we'll keep you posted
