now on 105.9 FM and streaming worldwide on the wal app o Conor and [Music] Company well good morning one and all hi everybody uh this is wal it is 7:07 in the morning on News Talk 105.9 wal we are making sense of the news oh boy oh boy it is Friday thank goodness and I am in love uh you're listening to all Conor and Company I'm Andrew Langer in for Larry O Conor today alongside Patrice anuka good morning Patrice good morning happy Friday we made it happy Friday to you yes we well day ain't over yet as they say no I'm I'm I'm excited about this listen We've Got U uh uh uh Bram Weinstein uh he's the play-by-play announcer for the Washington commanders joining us later on in this hour uh to do a preview as the commanders take on the Giants uh the next hour we got Gregory pton he's head of the DC police Union we're going to come back to this I think tragic miscarriage of Justice in Washington DC these police officers sentenced in this just bizarre case and then we got Brett Bear from uh from Fox News Channel he's the anchor of special report but joining us right now uh Hans Von spakovsky from the Heritage Foundation he's the manager of the election law reform initiative and Heritage he's also a former member of the FEC worked at the doj served on on the Fulton County Board of registration and elections which administered elections in the largest county in Georgia and let's start here Hans which is this issue of actually I want to start here with this as a former doj official uh let's let's hear what what Merrick Garland Michael what Merrick Garland had to say about criticizing the doj over the past three and a half years there has been an escalation of attacks on the Justice Department's career lawyers agents and other Personnel that go far beyond scrutiny criticism and legitimate and necessary oversight of our work all right let's stop it there Hans is it dangerous to criticize the justice department dangerous and outrageous uh no in fact what's dangerous and outrageous has been the behavior of the justice department a including its career lawyers over the past three and a half years you know I I listen to the rest of what what Garland was saying and he talked all about how you know their decisions that they make have nothing to do with politics that's the way it should be well yeah he's right that's the way the justice department ought to be run that's not the way he's been running it and the examples of that are are just obvious um you know think about the fact that uh he's got Jack Smith going after and criminally Prosecuting Donald Trump for the supposed mishandling of classified documents yet when uh it came out that U the president President Biden also mishandled classified documents for a much longer period while he was both a senator vice president um oh no no him we're not going to prosecute same type of charges uh the Republican we're Prosecuting the Democrat no we're not Prosecuting yeah you know Hans uh let's take it local here to Virginia we covered a story just in the last half hour about a Lowden County parent who um posted a v a Virginia voter registration application that her 16-year-old daughter received from her teacher in school yesterday or sometime this week um and the daughter reiterated to the teacher that she's just 16 But the teacher was was adamant that she fill out this information talk to us about what what what do you make of this is there anything really I mean we all we all know that there's something a miss here but um is there any criminality here or any any anything that should be potentially prosecuted well it should be investigated because in fact it's a violation of federal law for uh anyone to coers intimidate in other words and and in any way pressure someone over the issue of registering to vote and if in fact this teacher was trying to get someone who is not eligible vote to register yeah there's potential violation of the federal law and certainly I think there's probably a potential violation of state law the teachers in schools ought to be concentrating on teaching uh not rounding up voters for uh the Democratic party and whoever their Union is telling them to vote for right you that's my suspicion in all of this Hans is that there was some kind of a drive right there's some kind of Contest out there get these voter registrations to come in it's like people who go listen you they're going to go and sell candy bars whoever sells the most candy bars uh you know gets a special prize here you know yeah that's that's exactly it so you come in with the most voter registrations you get an extra day off or something here I mean Virginia does have this and is one of 18 states that has a an early registration pre-registration for voting um uh for this and and obviously I I it's if it's on the books it's on the books but I got a problem with this it's part and parcel of the effort to get kids you know to try to move that voting age downward I I think we should be going in the in the other the other direction here um but let's talk about this let's talk about the effort I know it's kind of a a a curveball here Hans but your thoughts on these efforts to lower the voting age from uh from 18 to uh uh to 16 you know in in States and localities what what do you think of this I think it's a foolish unwise idea think about this um they want to lower the voting age to 16 they're claiming that year olds have the Judgment maturity to make important our Democratic process yet if you ask them okay well uh do you want to lower the legal age for everything else so that they can uh buy alcohol right uh enter into a contract to buy a car you know all the other things that you can do only once you're an adult and they'll immediately say why no well if if uh 16y olds don't have the judgment to do any of that other stuff uh how in the world do you think they have the judgment to make the right choices in voting another example of that is do you think a 16-year-old should sit on a jury a jury looking at a a murder case a rape case anything like that and they'll immediately say why no okay well that tells you this is all about getting votes from immature emotional uh teenagers all of which we once were before we develop the Judgment that we got uh when we became adult no I listen I think you're I think you're absolutely correct there you know we're going to continue to have this conversation H because I want to we want to talk to you about what's going on in Georgia I also I had a conversation uh with a colleague about election Integrity overall and you know noncitizens who may not be here illegal but non-citizens who are somehow able to get voter registration uh we're going to talk about that as well with you um uh and more about the situation in ladden County uh Virginia as as well here traffic and weather brought to you by Hadid carpet cleaning we're still talking with Hans Von spakovsky from the Heritage Foundation and let me go let's go here uh this story yesterday two more charges against Donald Trump thrown out down in Fulton County uh explain this all to us what do you make of it Hans well the two charges that the judge judge mcy threw out were claims made by Fanny Willis that Donald Trump had filed false documents in a federal court now any firste law student could have told Fanny Willis who's an elected da that state courts uh local da have no jurisdiction over anything going on in a federal court that's up to a federal court to deal with a federal judge to deal with if that judge believes someone has filed false documents so the judge threw it out saying well you got no jurisdiction over this you know that's great for Donald Trump um but the judge should have done that when this case was first filed yes just just reading the original indictment that was obvious and quite frankly uh this judge has been uh frankly not doing all the things he should have done he should have thrown out Fanny Willis completely over her unethical behavior and as you know he didn't do that and that issue now is up before the higher courts in Georgia so um Hans quickly about just voting in general in elections um we've certainly heard this week a lot of talk uh you know about whether or not it is possible for illegal immigrants to vote in federal elections versus state and local elections and and everyone gets lumped together um there's legislation in Congress to protect our federal elections to make sure that only people who are who our citizens can vote in our in our federal elections can you just talk through that because it seems like the left wants to pretend like this is a red herring that this is not no big deal and no need for legislation do we actually need Federal legislation to protect our federal uh federal election system and ensure only citizens are voting uh the answer to that is absolutely yes um yeah look it's it's a felony under federal law for an alien to register vote whether they're here legally or illegally it's also uh illegal for aliens to vote in the states under under state law there's a couple of states that make exceptions for local elections but otherwise it's uniformally against the law so so the left says oh well it's against the law therefore we don't need anything else well that that obviously uh Andrew Patrice uh that means what our prisons must be empty everywhere right what the save act does this is this what the federal uh save act does that's being pushed in the house by Republicans is it says you have to provide proof of citizenship when you register to vote that is needed because right now we have an honor System when it comes to voter registration I mean the left keeps saying oh well there's been hardly any convictions of of aliens for illegally registering and voting well that's because one states have almost no way to detect it and two I can give you graphic examples of prosecutors just ignoring even when aliens are found they don't do anything about it yeah and hans's right it's a it's the red herring goes even further in that because they talk about voter fraud generally well there's very little voter fraud out there we're not talking about voter fraud necessarily we're talking about situations in which when a someone who is not eligible to vote has a touch with a with a government agency they're handed a voter registration card they're not clear as to whether or not they can vote you know legally or illegally they're given this form fill out this form so then they show up at the polls so it may be they may have been illegally registered to vote but they show up and they're on the voter roles there this is why we need the save act to stop this from happening it it creates all of this red herring this doesn't it uh Hans yeah it does and think about just this one thing Virginia dust found and took off 6,300 aliens by checking DMV records from the voter roles uh Andrew you particularly I think remember uh just a couple of years ago control of the State House in Virginia remember it came down to one race yeah One race because Democrats Republicans were evenly divided and that race was a tie they had to pick the name of the candidate out of a bowl to figure out who would control the state that's right that's right it's Alexa listen elections matter you're absolutely correct Hans thank you so very much for joining us today thank you Hans sure thanks for having me that was Hans Von spakovsky with the Heritage Foundation we've got so much more to get to at 7:21 here on wal you know Patrice part of the reason why I am relishing the idea of a JD Vance Tim Walls debate is that occasionally Tim Walls says something where that is just it's a moment of truth you know from the mouths of babes come the darnest things let's hear how Tim Walls described his running mate yesterday uh on the on the campaign Trail in Grand Rapids Michigan let's play Cut number eight because this started and I love this story as a young prosecutor Comm Harris talks about going in that courtroom for the first time you know I love this story of K Harris being a young prostitut um in fact there's some really great video ma mo on Twitter has some great video about kamla Harris being a young prostitut her I'm sorry go ahead Patrice oh wait so was that when she was dating Willie Brown or was that when she was with um oh what's his face the the TV host um oh I don't know Montel William Montel Williams I know Montel Williams the things I learned the things my young mind can't wrap my head around I wasn't realized that she was she had been with with Montel but that's that's exactly it it is a it is a moment let's you let's hear it one more time there Michael please because this started and I love this story as a young prosecutor Comm Harris talks about going in that courtroom for the first time I I love this I love this story as well it's 7:29 here on o Conor and& company wal wfm Woodbridge Washington accumulus media station making sense of the news news talk 105.9 W news now now on 105.9 FM and streaming worldwide on the W app o Conor and Company W well good morning everybody it is 7:37 here on News Talk talk 105.9 wal we are making sense of the news a good Friday morning to one and all hello there Patrice good morning happy Friday happy Fray the happiest of Friday to you as well this is oconor and Company I'm Andrew Langer and for Larry O Conor Larry will be back on Monday so you can all breathe a sigh of relief uh I'm sitting here with Patrice on wuka listen in the next hour of the show we got Gregory pton from the DC police Union to talk about what I think is this tragic miscarriage Justice going on uh with these two police officers sentenced yesterday uh and Brett Bear from the Fox News Channel he's anchor of the Special Report he's going to join us as well uh but because it is a Friday and the commanders are playing this weekend uh we have got Bram Weinstein good morning Bram how are you sir good morning I'm great how are you uh Commander at home this weekend kickoff Sunday at Northwest Stadium they're playing the New York Giants uh and the Washington commanders hope to increase their home opener winning streak with this game on Sunday how do things look for the commanders so both teams really struggle in their opener so there's a big one all of a sudden like a really big game for both teams here early obviously it's a division game so those always are kind of emphasized Giants really just could not get anything done on offense a week ago well 28 to6 at home and the command ERS you know you saw last week defensively had a hard time stopping Tampa Bay seven of eight true drives the Buccaneers scored so something's got to give here Washington's defense had a rough outing Giants offense had a rough outing someone's gonna get well on Sunday so Bram looking at our team you know anybody on the injured list are we expecting everybody to be playing at full force or what should we be looking out for the only person that's out this weekend that's a change is Emanuel Forbes the first round pick from a year ago he suffered a some injury he's having surgery to repair a ligament in it so he's going to be out for probably about a month so the secondary which was kind of a big question coming into the season to start with is a little bit underman now so they're going to ask a couple people to step up you're going to see a little bit more of a veteran that they signed uh in the off season Michael Davis so he's going to play on the outside with benjin st duu but again you know this is they're not playing a prolific passing team this weekend so hopefully uh it shouldn't affect them too greatly this weekend Bram uh Jaden Daniels had a decent not great but not awful uh uh NFL debut last week uh what do you expect to see from him this week what are you hoping to see so you know I I thought he played really well for a debut um and it actually was named M's rookie of the week so I think the NFL World greed you know that how he played um I would say this like Tampa Bay is a blitz happppy scheme they've been this way for a long time they brought a lot of pressure on him him at a percentage that's typically different than most teams in the NFL they were testing him and he left the pocket early a lot he's very fast extremely athletic um he'll tell you and the coaches will tell you afterwards that he ran the ball maybe a few too many times um that said when he did um he never put the ball In Harm's Way his instincts are great he ends up with two rushing touchdowns so there's good and bad they got themselves out of their offense and Tampa Bay got him to probably do a little bit more what they wanted him to do which was not throw the ball from the pocket that said he was successful when he ran the ball and on five of their eight drives they could have scored they missed a couple of field goals uh so like honestly like for a first go and a debut I actually thought it was extremely promising and it was really good and I don't expect the Giants to try to replicate what Tampa Bay did so I want to see his passing skills on display this weekend and I think he's going to have an opportunity to show it hey Bram while we're on the subject of field goals there seems to be an epidemic of kickers missing their field goals right now what's what's going on what's going on right now with this well was our team this is the fifth kicker we've signed since the spring so you want to call it an epidemic we we just cannot get we haven't caught a break with that and the new one is Austin cyber so he just came in so Kade York was here for a week Austin cyber takes his place and hopefully things will settle down I haven't seen anything like this in a long time where they just can't find somebody that they can rely on so far but you know hopefully that'll change cyber's been around the league he's bro and around the league I mean there were two kickers last week that made six field goals in games and one of them that made three from 50 plus so we seem to be the ones that are uh feeling the effects of it but hopefully that'll change this weekend as well little rocking pneumonia Boogie Wy flu going on there I I uh you know listen at some point they'll let me know I'm I'm looking I'm looking to the point where the commanders bring on a kangaroo or you know or you know they'll BR on Kathy Ireland you know to come and do it as we've seen in in in in movies if you're watching the game on Sunday if you're listening to the game on Sunday what should people be watching for listening for that you think will uh will secure a Commander's Victory so the one bizarre part of this matchup is the Giants record over the last you know five six years has been among the worst in the league but Washington hasn't beaten him in three seasons their quarterback Danel Jones who comes under a tremendous amount of scrutiny and was the subject of the Hard Knock series with the Giants of the offseason where the GM is saying on this this show that they're trying to upgrade from him and move on from him and they couldn't so therefore well will just stuck with him from the year he's five- one against Washington and his record is way below 500 gets literally everybody else wow the issue that Washington's had with him is he's a very good running quarterback it's his passing skills that have really kind of had had him struggle so if they contain him not let him get on the outside not run the ball not feeling comfortable back there I like watching his chances but this has been a really weird series giant struggle against everybody but Washington this is a new group now Dan quid and Joe wit and Jade D's a completely new group and you know the past is the past that's how we're kind of looking at it and hopefully this rivalry changes this weekend along with it well Bram Wiston you have fun on Sunday and we look forward to talking to you again next week okay thank you guys take care it's Bram Weinstein he is the play-by-play announcer for the Washington commanders and uh a host on 6:30 ESPN it's 7:43 here on wal so much truth you'll hope for traffic so you can hear it all on the Vince col a show weekdays 3 to 6 right here on WM well I mean you know it's a situation where if you know what's going on in the world and you know what uh folks want and are hungering for it's not too difficult to sort of make policy pronouncements and sort of get out there and get ahead of kamla Harris uh the taxes on tips thing was important kamla turned around and stole that but Trump made a major announcement yesterday so uh uh uh Patrice what's the over under how long is it going to take before kamla adopts this one as her policy position I would say by Sunday evening so for the morning Monday Morning News yes right tomorrow morning she will you're you're absolutely correct tomorrow she will do this uh let's play Cut number 11 to see cut number 11 to see Donald Trump's announcement I'm I'm also announcing that as part of our additional tax cuts we will end all taxes on overtime you know what that means think of that think of that think of that that gives people more of an incentive to work it gives the companies a lot it's a lot easier to get the people and you know I went to some economists great ones and I said what do you think they said it would be unbelievable you'll get a whole new Workforce by doing that no taxes on overtime the people who work overtime are among the hardest working citizens in our country of course for too long end there and and of course more and more people are working overtime these days Patrice you know talk about the the work that you guys do at the independent uh women's voice and uh um I The Independent Women's UF yeah thank you Forum thank you Lord It's 750 and I'm having a brain freeze iwf iwv IW this would be huge to the the the folks you you guys represent don't you absolutely I mean increasingly you're seeing women work multiple jobs but also work overtime and so um when you need to make ends meet because inflation has given you a pay cut uh that you need to make that money up in some way and so you know removing the taxes on overtime I mean hey I'm all for removing taxes on on Americans and if you're doing it in a targeted way um like President Trump is doing I support it I also look forward to uh him working to expand or or make permanent the 2017 tax cuts which like 90% of Americans who get get a paycheck C uh it is important that we're able to keep more of the money we earn uh it is interesting when it comes to overtime we've seen uh different thresholds around um different workers start to get access to overtime pay uh different pay pay levels U that's part of the equation and I think some of those regulations are kind of tied up in in legal court cases but it's a signal that President Trump is sending which is I'm going to put more money in your pocket tomorrow and here's how I'm going to do it while we're waiting for inflation to come down so in that same vein of of Merrick Garland gaslighting Americans about the politicization at the doj here is Kamala Harris gaslighting Americans about who wants to protect Medicare and Social Security let's play Cut number 12 but here's the thing you when you read it you will see Donald Trump intends to cut Social Security and Medicare you know she says this and she says this as though she didn't cast the tiebreaking vote she is proud of this tiebreaking vote on the inflation reduction act guys go and check this out this is not lies this is not not spin the inflation reduction act rid Medicare to the tune of a quarter of a trillion dollar to pay for the green New Deal and yet she's going to stand here and lecture to all of us about who's going to raid you know who's going to protect Medicare and Social Security this is insane it it isn't not patri it it it is it's not what don't listen to what she says because she's lying through her teeth about so many things president Trump was in office for four years and didn't touch Medicare or Medicaid Social Security he didn't touch those programs and he has said consistently that he he doesn't want to touch them I think a lot of conservatives have said actually we do need to deal with entitlements if we want to get at the long-term fiscal health of our country but he has been adamant that he is not touching those programs so she's and and now you have as you rightly said the IRA rating Medicare so she is the one who's lying but listen it is not what people say in fact they deflect what they say the other side is doing is exactly what they themselves are doing they just don't want you to know and pay attention a quarter of a trillion dollars taken out of Medicare to pay for the green new deal it's 753 here on wal
