cross receivers what a block durit Rebound in front in his 17 minutes on the ice Arizona Coyotes defenseman Travis dermit helped defeat the Anaheim Ducks and set a precedent the first NHL player to openly defy the League's ban on Pride tape with the rainbow colored tape clearly visible on his stick handle Saturday night the founder of the pride tape movement says he wasn't surprised dermit has supported lgbtq causes throughout his career as soon as the ban was announced dermit ordered more some fans were also quick to show their support on social media posting pictures of their own Pride tape and even ordering dermit jerseys the NHL banned Pride tape and Specialty jerseys after several players sparked controversy for sitting out Pride night activities going to change jerseys for warmup because that's just become um more of a distraction from really the essence of what the purpose of these nights are the league report reportedly said it will review dermot's use of the pride tape as a possible violation of the ban this is a mess of the NHL's own making since initially it allowed the use of Pride tape then changed its mind other nhlers have already voiced their criticism of the pride tape ban and now that one player has broken it the question is who's next Philip Le shanok CBC News Toronto obviously we're all here based on the stand you took and I just wanted to ask first and foremost why you did what you did and what it meant to you to see your teammates and the league respond in the way they did yeah for sure I'd like to start off by saying you know that I wouldn't have have had the confidence to do something like this unless I had such a good group of people behind me um you know from the top to bottom um from the general managers down to players um equipment managers and everyone in between um everyone was right behind me from from the GetGo here and that uh that couldn't have given me the confidence to do this anymore last one for me Pride night tomorrow um do you have anything planned and and what does it mean that the team collectively celebrates Pride night and and what we're going to see tomorrow night at mullet of course kind of like I said before you know this uh this organization's really suppored me from day one and um you know talking to our our uptop uh group um you know they they were behind me and and uh you know really want me to understand that there is all that support from this organization and I've uh spent numerous hours the last uh last week or so chatting with them about um a game plan that we can take forward and they're 100% on board um if not even a step ahead of me with um if not even a step ahead of me with with the stuff they got planned going
