uh We've witnessed getting Starship further into space than ever happened before they got a clean separation the first stage uh came back and came down through the atmosphere looks like maybe as it was getting down into the thick air it might have had some control problems uh but the actual spaceship itself the ship is continuing to accelerate it's already almost at orbital speed of 28,000 km an hour and that engine's uh continuing to work they've just shut down those engines so uh I mean this is a huge step forwards in understanding how this ship Works a very successful third test flight this is the recent interesting speech of a former astronaut of the Canadian space agency and NASA Chris Hadfield in a CNN channel program about the flight 3 flight that is worth discussing that's actually what everyone was waiting for after flight 3 after every flight besides the congratulations many interesting questions will appear with Starship flight 3 based on everything that happened I think the question that probably received the most attention even the most controversy is was this flight a success or a failure that's truly a difficult question for many people and I believe this is the time when everyone will want to hear comments from individuals with indepth knowledge of the Aerospace industry such as experts or astronauts so on today's episode of great SpaceX let's explore how astronauts reacted to Starship flight 3 and whether their comments differ from what they've said before about Starship this promises to provide valuable insights into the perceptions of seasoned professionals within the Aerospace Community regarding the recent developments in space flight technology as we all know flight 3 ended with explosions in both stages however what this flight accomplished was significant strides for SpaceX and it was truly One Step Closer To Life on Mars as Elon Musk said after the flight that's why for SpaceX this flight is still considered a success but these are conclusions made by SpaceX themselves it's important to hear the perspectives of other notable figures in the industry such as experts or even astronauts themselves along with the recent speech a few months ago after Starship Flight 2 Chris Hadfield also tweeted a very successful second test flight of a complex new vehicle with huge progress and learning just as he said thanks to significant progress and learning SpaceX has been able to push flight 3 further than what they achieved in Flight 2 this highlights the iterative nature of space exploration and the importance of learning from each test flight to improve future iterations in the aformentioned speeech Hadfield listed starship's most outstanding successes firstly he described the separation process status as clean indeed with the hot staging system the process of separating starship's two stages has taken place smoothly and impressively in both minut missions Flight 2 and three this has been key to helping the flights gradually fly longer and achieve more targets next Chris also mentioned one of the most impressive moments in Flight 3 the re-entry process with support from a system of up to 18,000 heat shield tiles Starship successfully entered the re-entry process a crucial step for future rocket reuse this is no easy task as Starship has to navigate through the thick atmosphere deal with control problems and more however ever Starship managed this well for a few minutes as evident in spacex's live stream on March 14th additionally we witnessed the remarkable capability of the Starling system in communication roles although Starship could not return safely after these attempts the few minutes we witnessed were truly remarkable and Hadfield himself emphasized this when reposting musk's re-entry tweet with the message key learning for this very successful test flight this highlights the significant advance ments and lessons learned during the flight contributing to the overall progress of the Starship program and of course starship's most important goal is to reach orbit as Chris Hatfield said Starship reached an orbital speed of nearly 28,000 km per hour many people may say it's normal because many vehicles can achieve that however Starship is on a higher level as Elon Musk pointed out Starship with a mass of 5,000 tons is the largest flying object ever made Starship reaching orbit will certainly have a much greater impact than other rockets and may even usher in a new era for the Aerospace industry finally Chris also mentioned a bit about the Raptor engine as it made progress in the activation and shutdown process compared to flight 1 and two engine reliability has greatly improved the engines still activated together during liftoff generating incredible thrust after that the processes of cutting off and reactivating the engine were smooth in particular SpaceX successfully activated the engines after the separation process directly addressing the main problem that led to the failure of the booster in Flight 2 and helping the booster enter The Landing process turning our attention to space the six engines in the ship also did not report any major problems sadly the boosters engines still did not have a perfect ending when they encountered a problem that prevented the booster from Landing when it was less than 500 M from the ocean surface but these are still advances for the Raptor engine system and I believe flight 4 will be a mission where SpaceX completes the remaining tasks and further refines the capabilities of the Raptor engines besides Chris Hadfield another famous astronaut Jared isikman who also expressed his personal opinion about flight 3 in a tweet after the flight isman said for those that know and appreciate what SpaceX is trying to accomplish if3 was a real success We Are One Step Closer to really opening up the last great Frontier this comment directly addresses the question at the beginning of of the video for many people ending with explosions is simply a failure however if anyone understands spacex's working style they will know that it is the experience they gain to improve in the future the progress from flight one to Flight 2 and now flight three is proof of this that is the basis for the world to get closer to the last great Frontier that isaacman mentioned which could be the moon Life on Mars the entire solar system or other star systems as Elon Musk recently pointed out during the previous flight Jared isman also commented on starship's role it's been over 50 years since Humanity had the capability to visit the Moon it was also when the US government and taxpayers invested 4% of the budget into a space program what you see below is a largely privately funded Endeavor to connect humankind to the Stars thank you honestly after over 50 years the road to the moon has been difficult even for NASA attempts to land a Lander by other countri late last year and early this have encountered many problems meanwhile the US's biggest rival China is making significant strides in this race that's why SpaceX and Starship receive a lot of expectations from the US Aerospace industry in the next few years this rocket will take on an important role Landing humans on the moon in 2026 and 2028 this is definitely a crucial task because this return will be when humans will truly establish permanent settlements on this natural satellite additionally this race will no longer be the US's exclusive Endeavor because now many other countries have also entered the competition besides China countries like Russia India and Japan also have their own plans for lunar exploration this further demonstrates starship's significance so what impact has the recent flight had well the progress of flight 3 will serve as the foundation for SpaceX to gradually move towards manufacturing completing and operating the HL s variant of Starship the vehicle that will land humans on the moon furthermore the recent flight also marked the first attempt in the Tipping Point mission to transfer propellant from the header tank to the main this is an important step for SpaceX to establish a refueling system to support Journeys to the moon in the coming years that's what experts and astronauts have commented on regarding Starship flly 3 and I believe that this sentiment is only shared by them is not only shared by them but also by many of us after flight three subsequent flights will come at a faster pace and advancements will become more pronounced every minute every kilometer that SpaceX achieves will be a milestone marking the progress of this rocket and Paving the way for humans to reach even the most ambitious dreams well folks that's about it for today's episode thank you so much for tuning in and as always this is Kevin from great SpaceX and until next time keep looking up
