Day one of fall camp for the Washington State Cougars is in the books as is day one of the quarterback battle between John Matier and Zevi Eckhaus. And if you're looking for a clubhouse leader after day one, it has to be matier. Thanks to a strong connection with star wide receiver Kyle Williams. We did, we didn't really look a dub looked really good man. He caught probably like five or six passes getting open. A lot of shooters. We had no bust, I don't think, but that's just, we've been walking through and doing all this stuff and coach Dicker and his plan and his uh schedules really got us ready to go. So I look good. We, we look good. I have all the tools to do it and I think really just taking care of the football. You know, I struggled for the first part of spring, taking care of the football. Um but just making sure that the ball is the most important thing and then just a leadership standpoint, like when we really need it, I'm the guy to show up and get the offense together, get them going. Um That's really the main thing for Williams, he enters his final fall camp as the Cougs number one receiver and he sure played like it today when you're a great player, show other people how to be great players, right? And why you're a great player and then we get a team of great players. So I think it's really imperative that he kind of looks at the big picture, which I think he has. You know, I think Kyle's had a great off season. He's really invested himself in the weight room and it's been fun to see him apply it on the field beginning his third fall camp as head coach, Jake Dicker says this was the best day one he's had yet. My plan didn't make it great. Their purpose and intent to the work makes it great. That was the best first day of fall camp we've had since I've been here and it's because they went out there and wanted to do it. Not me. They did, right. It's got to be player led, not coach fed the cos now have three more practices and just tell us before they put on the full pads in preparation for their August 31st home opener against Portland State, but the KOS weren't the only college team in action today. Let's send it down the road to Moscow where we find our Mike Boyle day one for the Vandals is in the book here in Moscow as they get ready for their opener against Oregon. This club picked third in the Big Sky Conference and looking forward to the challenges being one of the 100 instead of one of the also rans, the expectations are higher than like two years ago. You know, two years ago, I think we were picked like eighth or ninth in the league or something. So, uh, you ought to be picked third. Uh, obviously we're getting more respect but we, we're still not picked to be number one or anything. So we, we still got work to do and with Giovanni mccoy now gone from the scene, Jack Lane gonna take over under center and he's looking forward to leading this club this season. QB are a natural leader whether you want to be or not. So, um, I've been really trying to focus on that in two ways, kind of being more vocal, um, and also just leading, by example, you know, doing the right things, Lane will be leading an offense as relatively inexperienced as there isn't one senior that's back on the roster, but this club has enough experience to have the coach feeling confident. I thought there was some good things, had a good day just to watch the tape and really dig into it. But I thought just watching practice today, I thought they had a better day. I think we have plenty of ready to go on offense and Jack will be a great leader there as well. The vandal defense will be the strength of the team this season. They're secondary relatively inexperienced, but with a lot of guys from colleges that are expected to make contributions, they're really good. I don't pay attention much in the secondary, you know, because I'm a defensive line player, but from what I've seen on the backside giving me enough time to get to the quarterback. So that's all that matters. Right. I think we're gonna have a little bit more depth, you know, last year we really only played three corners in, in close games. Hopefully we can play four this year with day one in the books. The clock now starts ticking on the season opener at Oregon as Idaho faces a tough schedule to begin as they'll have two games on the road, not just at Oregon, but at Wyoming to begin the season. Reporting from Moscow, Mike Boyle Creme two sports Day, one of fall camp is in the books for the Eastern Washington Eagles and coaches were preaching all day long about a different mentality from the previous two seasons. When the eggs have gone seven and 15, we have to be different than what we ban. The results aren't what they need to be and what we expect to be. We have enough players, we have enough good coaching, we just have to make sure we stay healthy and our mind is in a good spot not winning today, but getting better today to win in the future, the Eagle offense, both preseason, first team all American wide receiver Eton Chisholm who made the decision to stay and hopes to help lead the eggs back to their former glory. I love Eastern. I think, uh, a lot of people kind of just want a taste of college football and then go chase the money or go chase wins and stuff like that. But I'm just big in the process and I love these coaches, I love these guys. Like I don't really think I should walk out on my family and that's how I can kind of consider. I'm just trying to do whatever I can just to win, you know, at, at the end of the day, if we win the more games we play, the more people we're gonna watch, you know, get Eastern back to where it was. The ES also have a preseason third team all American kick returner and offensive weapon, Michael worth them. I was grateful for the opportunity. Um, no matter where the team needed me, I was gonna to line up and do so. Um, I made the most of my abilities there and, uh, I still got some more work to do so wherever I'm put and however many reps I get, I'm just gonna help my team as much as possible. Let's try to get this. Natty, the es open up the regular season Thursday, August 29th at Roos field against Monmouth kickoff. For that game is set for 6 p.m. reporting in Cheney. Andrew Quinn Creme, two sports.
