definitely one of those it's not just about how much you win but who you beat and you know this when you sign up for a job like that and to be frank the real ones want that the real ones know that they're going to live on the edge time and time again and they embrace it and after having lost to Michigan for three straight years and after watching the Wolverines Hoist the big Trophy last year Ryan day seems to be on the most fragile ground that he's been on as a head coach now this season is probably the most important one for the Buckeyes in a decade and lucky for him this year the stars are aligning they get Michigan at home the Wolverines lost some of their most important pieces including their head coach Ohio state has a top two roster in the whole Sport and the sense of urgency in Columbus is Defcon one now coach day asked for All the Gold in the nil Vault and he got it so now is the time for the tide to turn one could even say Ryan day is going to have to pull a Jim Harbaugh and he knows that after after having fallen victim to your rivals on the field and getting some of your most talented staffers taking off the field it's time for Ohio State to get the Army together in March so will Coach day and the Buckeyes get back to their old ways when it matters the most well he better because if not regardless of how much he's won he may just fall off that edge he's been living on for a while now guy that knows a little bit about this Michigan Ohio State robbery David con former Michigan quarterback my brother former Western State Colorado wide receiver bla crane David it's crazy to think and I'm not even saying Ryan day would get fired but there may just be a mutual parting of the ways if they don't beat Michigan and lose four in a row Mutual parting of the way and then you know what I'm saying like and and we'll see what happens with e eever flu at the bears but when you look at Ryan day in Ohio State this year with all that's going on in the past all they've accumulated in the future we got an urban Meer quote saying this may be the most talented team he's ever seen is it a must win for Ryan Day against Michigan this year to be the head coach state two years from now I didn't know we were gonna be talking about the rivals today but that's why when you stay prepped you don't have to get ready yeah stay ready don't get Stay Ready um man Ryan day has never won fewer than 11 games in a season top five winning percentage in the country and all we're talking about is does this guy have to beat Michigan or else he might get fired that that's how much I want it to matter that's how much I want it to matter and like you talked about Jim Harbaugh lost five straight of these couldn't beat Urban Meyer what happened to him turns it around beats him three years in a row wins the conference three years in a row college football playoff goes 43 and two something like that in the last three years so look the this rivalry and I don't have to tell you guys about it with the iron ball like when you watch your biggest rival have success I mean it does something to you terms of talking about having the best roster in the country of course man like first of all point point to a year when the Buckeyes don't have one of the best rosters they got football players freaks running around at every single position you add to that the fact that most of the seniors came back to this team like Michigan's did a year ago and they added elite players from the transfer portal maybe two of the best college football players from the Southeastern Conference and they have a budget of 1516 million in nil of course they have one of the best rosters what I do find slightly amusing though is that Urban Meyer and Jim Trestle both say the same sound by on the exact same day as if it were scripted for him I don't does anyone else did anyone else get a chuckle out that did anyone else get a chuckle out well let's let's go ahead and play the urban Meer C we have the urban Meer clip just to give you some context this is today on three put it out on social let's play what Urban Meyer former Ohio State head coach won a lot of games obviously won a lot at Florida let's see what Urban had to say but as of now this is one of the most talented rosters in the last decade maybe ever I mean I said big statement they got to play but you look at the quality of athlete at every position I've never seen anything like it so if you're Ryan day like look number one I I appreciate you dog but also I really don't want you out there saying thisle said the same I understand I'd say the same thing about Jim Trestle he's over at Youngstown State with the penguin just hanging out there's nothing nothing left uh that benefits or doesn't benefit him anymore but if you're Ryan day like it just builds up the hype even that much more you and it's it's not even Blain and and this is what we talk about in some of the biggest rivalries let's let's look at Auburn Alabama for example Mike schula at Alabama won a decent amount of games it wasn't like Mike schula was going five and seven every year he just couldn't beat Auburn so I don't care how many games you're really winning outside of if you win the national championship is that the only caveat if you if let's say Ryan Day loses to Michigan and they win the national championship okay like we can spin that one but anything outside of that when you sign up to be the head coach at Ohio State you know you got to beat Michigan you sign up to be the head coach Alabama you know you got to beat Auburn I can go down the list at some of these Texas and Oklahoma very similar you sign up to be the head coach at Oklahoma you're expected to beat Texas maybe not every year but most of the years are at least be even so I don't care what Ryan day has done you're either winning The Natty and beating Michigan or you're beating Michigan and that's the only thing I think deep down that can save you from this thing kind of falling off it just feels like Ohio State and Rye have been stuck on third base forever it's just one of those guys who just can't finish this is a year to do because the big bad big bad wolf and walk around on that sidelines of Michigan Jim Harbaugh's gone all right new year new team one of the best one thing I am worried about with all this nil money with all this Elite roster Talent why is Caleb DS getting talked about at running back yeah yeah and if if our viewers don't know it got put out today Ryan Day told reporters that Caleb DS all right all everything safety when the biggest transfer portal editions in the country let alone just for Ohio State from Alabama guys going to be a first round pick has been taking some reps or been in meetings with the running backs hold on yeah ever since Travis Hunter at Colorado now we're starting to see kids play both ways if your roster is this Elite you have two good backs you have Quin Shan Judkins and trayon why would like that there's there's not good there's not a lot of green flags coming out of the Ohio state camp right now with this this isn't a good thing to me if Caleb DS is getting reps at running back one still quarterback questions we don't know who the starter is three you cussed out some chick who's your recruiting director now she's a Michigan there's not a lot of good things if you're going to play the bad boy role that's fine all right but you better live up to and it better show up on Saturday because right now other than the Georgia game I mean Ryan Day hadn't beat Oregon when they play Oregon this year this schedule is not a walk in the park for them no no it's not a walk in the park I mean and you look at the additions and the teams going to the big 10 this feels like in poker when you go all in on a hand this is this is Ryan days Allin I'm i' I've got pocket kings I'm feeling good about it because it's really hard to sit here and say there aren't two rosters out there that are better than Georg and Ohio State but as far as the Caleb DS running back thing you know what it kind of seems like to me that maybe he told him this during the recruitment process and the transfer portal and he's not really going to play running back but they just wanted to put that he's just trying to massage it a little bit and make sure that Caleb DS isn't that upset I need you to play safety I need you to make up for mistakes and Miss tackles in the front seven and keep you know runs that would go 80 yards and a touchdown limiting those to 20 yards and then get your interceptions and be a leader in this that and the other it just it seems like there's a lot going on man but isn't all going to come down to will Howard though well is that what it's gonna well the quarterback and to win the national championship probably just because they they may have a good enough roster where will Howard can sort of just be a facilitator and maybe they win the conference and they do they do still have to play at Oregon they have to play at Penn State maybe they find a way to win the conference in a couple playoff games but when you started talking about playing in the national championship georg's roster looks just as good to me oh no I'm not I'm not arguing take over I'm not arguing that on the Caleb DS Point yeah like like every defensive player wants to know they could still Tote The Rock every defensive player wants go out there for a buck 50 and two touchdowns so you just you tell them that you tell them that maybe you let him come in and play slot in practice once in a while and get a reverse and you know door I'm saying you open that door A lot of people are going to you give one herter sheet back there's going to be a long line of herters in this damn Kingdom well well I think it we we're not being disingenuous but a little bit naive to not think will Howard is going to be the guy you went out and spent that money in nil to get will Howard to come in and be the quarterback and as far as winning a national championship there is going to be a game right whether it's to set yourself up to get into the national championship game and most likely in the playoff where will Howard has to make a couple big time Big Time throws to be able to win the game when the windows are very small can he do that we'll we'll see we saw him against TCU in a big game I'm not worried about him that TCU defense ain't Georgia that TCU defense isn't going to be what Oregon's going to give you there's going to come a point in time where the they win the Big 10 right now I do think Ohio State's probably going to win the Big 10 I don't think that's a crazy thing to say which means you get a Buy in the college football playoff we do our predictions After Fall camp but I don't think that's a crazy thing to say we're going to talk with JD pel about it a little bit uh here once we get him on about 25 30 minutes and we want to hear from you but but there's going to come a point in time when there's the semifinal game the championship game whatever where on a drive will Howard has to make some big time throws to win them a game against an NFL secondary that's this season I think for Ohio State going to come down to three to five plays really cuz it always does for everybody go back to Michigan you know look at the Alabama game to get in there what had to happen on that last driver the Ohio State Michigan game where hell JJ McCarthy got lucky a couple times we're going to be honest threw a couple balls in there with a guy's back turned and was able to fit it in can Will Howard do that that's the biggest question he saw that his back was going to be turned and he made that oh if Ryan if he loses to Michigan by one possession wins the Big 10 and loses in the national championship by one possession I it's not good enough I don't think I I wouldn't be shocked if they part way like you said they it would be some sort of partway but I still would say no I would still say no I mean just from the reasons that we've all talked about four in a row David you lose to Michigan again Jim Harbaugh is five in a row and now you just called him the big bad wolf you know I mean we're not that far removed from the Buckeye social media team liking a tweet that said Jim Harbaugh got a contract extension yeah they liked it and now they don't like it so much right now but he's gone off one last question though for you guys is urban urban Meer smart Urban Meer smart just coming out here talking about how great The rosters is this guy playing 5D chess maybe he's trying to get his old coaching job back when this doesn't work out I listen am I crazy I no I think Urban Meyer is about Urban Meyer 100% not that you know I don't know him and Ryan day's personal relationship but I do know that if you think about all of it Urban Meer goes the NFL now he's kind of laughing stock a little with the Jags he's hanging out at Hooters state is the New York Yankees of the college football world for two reasons one they always has they always have the talent and high expectations and two I don't like the Yankees either well George was a terrible player by any stretch the he was the weak link but he was a weaker link on that team now they did start two new tackles and a new center but those guys are coming back and will Howard is a little bit of a different flavor of ice cream in the RPO game which you're going to see more of with Ohio State this year with his legs especially in the Red Zone but I I don't think it's crazy at all if you're sitting here saying well I think Ohio state has the best roster in college football or I think Georgia has the best roster in college football all let's go to Shephard Ducks he says Ryan day is also 0 And1 versus Oregon is Ryan Day overlooking that Oregon game and looking at that game versus the depleted Michigan Team D I I don't think overlooking it David uh is the Oregon game in Columbus or is it in Eugene at Eugene October 12th who do they got before that and after Iowa before at home Nebraska after at home okay I don't think he's actually a bi-week after they they get a crazy world to live in but I would not be surprised and I would not be shocked just we said the Rivalry means that much and it matters that much especially like on the Columbus side I mean they had their they had their run at Michigan for over 10 years I mean and when I was there too you know and now all the sudden losing three in a row is is different man it's a tough pill to swallow talking about the rosters though I'll tell you what Michigan fans are saying and what they tell me every single day when they hear about these unbelievable recruiting class number one recruiting class in 2025 unbelievable roster this year is like yeah but they've had that I mean I I know Michigan fans that have the plaque the like the photo on their wall of CJ strad with Garrett Wilson with Chris olve with Marvin Harrison Jr with Jackson Smith and jiga all on the sidelines together that team couldn't beat Michigan three years in a row like they've had the talent this whole time that's what Michigan fans are saying yeah and I understand you saying that but again it's there's two sides to that coin yes Ohio state has had that but Michigan hasn't lost what they've lost going into Ohio State having that right I mean Michigan to be honest with you and you know this better than anybody David and Michigan fans do they built up that roster and had guys come back you know to finish the job and win a National Championship that was based basically on we got to beat Ohio State because we've gotten embarrassed and we got to win a National Championship to kind of get a little bit of our pride back so I think that what makes it different this year is not solely that Ohio state has an unbelievable roster because again I agree with you they've had that it's that Michigan you know lost a lot of the best parts of their army not that Michigan's going to be bad I don't think anybody's saying that but it's it's that combination I think that may give Ohio State fans a little bit more confidence and should now who the hell knows what's really going to happen when we're on the field but uh I think it's that combination we talk about not knowing who's going to play quarterback for the Buckeyes keep in mind we still don't know who's going to play quarterback for Michigan we have no idea but what the sense that I did get in the building um when I was up there at Shin Beckler Hall week before last I particularly wanted to know about the offensive line like Hey cuz that's cuz Chiron Moore is getting elevated because he was an offensive line guy right what's going on with the offensive line and what I've been hearing from people is yeah the guys will be new but they're not young they're the guys who sat behind all the guys who came back to win a National Championship we feel like we're in a position to finally reload like that and then on defense obviously they got all Americans oh yeah no Michigan's going to be a good football team I just don't think it's going to be and I don't think electric is the right word to use for their offense last year it was more like more like you know like water powerered like the wheel that just keeps turning and just keeps creating water and keeps creating water uh but I think it's going to be less explosive in Parts because of what they lost and we'll see at the quarter position whether it's orgy or whether it's one of the young guys but we want to know what y'all think let's get to uh a couple reactions here Deon all right well we got to talk about the Celtics man 18th NBA finals championship breaks the tie that they had with the Lakers uh uh Jason Tatum afterwards we can talk about what Jason Tatum said Jaylen Brown though MVP you and I been talking a lot about Jaylen brown but 18th NBA championship and uh wasn't even really close throughout the series no I mean this this finals if you're not a Celtics fan was a dud from a competitiveness standpoint there really wasn't that many close games I mean was there a game that was under like a six-point difference I mean the one game the Mavs won it was like 122 to 86 but what I love about this Celtics team is that this wasn't really a Frankenstein hey let's go get a big three and see if we can't just find a way to to catch magic in a bottle one year and just dominate everyone with a couple guys this truly was a team we talked about this over and over and over again and the way it built up for the Celtics they would hit like a different Notch every year right like they would go far and then then they would lose typically at home we saw that happen with the heat we saw that happened with the Warriors in the finals but they got like a step further each year and finally right believing in who they had they didn't go out and sell and say you know what we need to break up the the duo of Jaylen Brown and Jason tanum like some guys who know basketball really well like Kendrick Perkins said they should I watched Jay Williams talk about how well this isn't going to work this way Brad Stevens and them they added periphery pieces around them you got guys like Derek white from the Spurs who's a guy that you know plays his ass off on defense offensively got hot I mean even Sam Hower right hit some big threes and big moments this was and we see the teams that are winning NBA championships the nugets it's a team right and and I love watching Team Basketball Jason Tatum who is their Superstar of superstars even though I think Jaylen Brown is their Batman he won MVP he had almost 10 assists at halftime and JJ reck said something blame and I love seeing this in professional sports where you do have to elevate your stars right we talk about Major League Baseball's problem they don't promote their individuals well enough the word sacrifice Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown had to lower their volume of shots to be able to make the team better Al Horford said you know what y'all got porzingis I'll come off the bench a guy that's that's played in a ton of big games and won a lot of games in Al Horford a real old head Drew holiday says you know what I'll be more of a defensive enforcer than I will be somebody out there that's trying to go get Buckets and what happens the first two games he scores like 26 and 20 I just love the team aspect of this that they sacrificed and they did it their way they won it their way good for the Celtics this series sucked if you're watching this final series was just it was just so boring to watch I think Jason Tatum's probably the most cringey guy in the NBA um if there's one good thing that came out of this congratulations to Al Horford I've loved watching Al Horford play basketball from all the way back and Florida you want to talking about a standup good ass guy who finally got one who finally deserved it it was great but it was a terrible watch and they really did this without porzingis didn't need them well like one like the way they were built like from an experience standpoint way more experienced than the Mavs other other than k K and they know who they are right when it comes to Identity standpoint of basketball holiday should have won defensive player of the year I agree with I don't know how he doesn't win the defensive player of the year but to my opinion I think Drew holiday was the best player in this series we got to talk about Joe Missoula too Joe moula is become my favorite coach I think in any sport right now professionally like watching this guy win a championship the way he goes about his business I absolutely love it as far as Jason Tatum why do you think he's one of the cringiest athletes everybody's been saying he's not original like like he's not be yourself like what you copy the Kevin Garnett thing after the end of the game yeah all right then you try to copy the LeBron speeech at another one dude just be yourself right quit trying to be other people quit trying to win like other people just do what you do dude if you're original people can see a fake people you talking about in the way he acts not in the way he plays I think in the way he you can't fake that yeah I was about F Maverick fake on a basketball court that's real life that's what we see but if if you watch his celebrations are his speeches afterwards it's the cringiest thing I well here's what I said here's what I'll say if the worst thing you can say about me is that I'm cringy after we won the NBA Finals then guess what buddy say it about me I'll take that I'll take that way more than being the coolest cat in the room and not winning one the question now becomes and I've seen Luca and Kyrie you know and and when you lose this happens when you're elevated to this point i' and I said this since the beginning the series I felt like they had to play Perfect on both ends of the court for the Mavericks to have a chance the Celtics were that much better than the Mavericks so I I don't think less of Luca as as a talent right I've always known he wasn't a great defensive player Kyrie isn't a great defensive player he gets his hands in there every now and then not that he doesn't give effort but the Mavs they just weren't the better team the Celtics David I think were that much better than the Mavericks I agree with you I think it was an incredible feat they got to the finals to be honest I mean the West we know the West is tougher than the East I mean the Nuggets aren't going anywhere you got by the Timberwolves we'll see if the Timberwolves run that experiment back again next year with two seven-footers Anthony Edwards I think could be a type of guy who's the I don't think Minnesota's going you know Golden State right now with Clay Thompson unfollowing the Warriors that's kind of a little bit different you know and I mean LeBron's not going to stop throwing as many chances as he can for the Lakers to be relevant again in the west so the fact Dallas got through that Gauntlet already to make the final I thought was very impressive I'm pretty sure JJ reing is going to be the next coach of the Lakers I hope I think he should be the next coach of the Lakers is that official yet pretty official not official well I mean they they've struck out on a couple of the other guys but no I think JJ reick should be the next head coach Lakers but I don't want to talk about the Lakers right now this isn't about the Lakers this is about the Celtics I hated how on ESPN they were like hey the Boston Celtics have won their 18th NBA championship all right who's going to be the head coach to the Lakers is that what they were doing well well you wonder why because like the Celtics even Joe Missoula I think some in sports media like they're not as flashy as other teams that have won it I think a lot of it is because they just want to win that's what they care about the most and Joe moula isn't afraid to like embrace you know his beliefs and this and the other but he's not afraid to piss anybody off by acting a certain way so it's hard for them to kind of be like oh well you know this about the Celtics and Joe Missoula whatever what kind a little bit like who Eric spala But Eric spala just didn't say nothing Joe mouu doesn't say a lot but he says what he really the Celtics are just a tough like really as a franchise or this specific specific why are they a tough like think their stars are just tough to like see I think that's I it the last three tries and so the roster the external circumstance with Michigan I mean the way the Big 10 is kind of Shifting there's so many pieces that are in place right now to where it's like Ohio State if if it's not right now when's it going to be yeah I mean that the only place that's going to be returning less production you know next year is whoever is on the acolyte Star Wars even though he's a defensive guy and so I think that's going to become accentuated as we move now into this new era of college football if I had to pick y'all I think I would lean Texas I think Steve is out there looking at all the top quarterbacks in the country and he's going to get a great many of them why Julian saan decided to flip at the last second when you know you're you could go play for a guy like that I think again that just speaks to the Vault of money that the Buckeyes are willing to throw at recruits right now now so I I have no doubt that kayin deor is going to going to get great quarterbacks in there and look what he's done with some of these coach we talked about Michael pennick Jr but then Jake hayner at Fresno State they're gonna stay with good quarterbacks man okay all right and then um to Blain and Jake um Alabama is on a heater right now when it comes to recruiting you know a lot of people said the boy couldn't recruit but here's my question if Alabama has a successful season this year right games haven't been played yet if alurn doesn't beat Alabama in recruiting this year before theore gets his feet underneath him on the field will they ever do it during Hugh F's tenure um well it's there's a there's a couple ways in my opinion look at this number one Alabama's been on a heat of recruiting for like the last 20 years uh you know nothing is new in that category I don't think they're going to recruit at the level that Nick Savin did consistently finishing one and two but that still doesn't mean you're not getting really good players and it's going to take multiple years of mediocrity for Alabama to fall off somewhat in recruiting Because Alabama like I called Ohio State one of those golden egg places in college football tus Le is one of those golden egg places so I didn't expect like some these other people for Alabama just to magically fall off in recruiting Because Nick sabin's not there it doesn't work like that but I do think and and I don't think it's just this year I mean Auburn goes to Alabama hre really hadn't had a chance to truly get his feet underneath him I either at Auburn with what he inherited and kayin dbor inherited a really good situation Alabama let's not downplay this isn't Nick sain taking over for the disaster that was left behind him in a team that lost louisian Monroe kayin neor is hopping in a Ferrari uh and just doing donuts in The Strip so uh I do think he Auburn will get close to Alabama recruiting but if you go look Auburn really hasn't beaten Alabama in recruiting that much even in years where they've beaten them on the field so I don't know if that's the the truest star to look at but if if there's ever a year for it to happen I would probably assume it's as early in the deor tenure as possible or at the very end if it doesn't work out yeah I would think one what what is a successful season to Alabama um that's what I want to know and two Nick sa did the type of job to where even after he lefts he's built Alabama enough up to where they recruit itself um it's just it's just a winding door at this point I don't worry about recruiting classes on beating Alabama I just
