Kicking Some General Booty: From G5 to Natty Episode 5 vs. UL Monroe

this current stage into our first sunb conference game of the season as take on the warhawks of Louisiana Monroe and we are going to get the ball first and we're on the road War at Malone Stadium here get this ball OPP and I just didn't get much of anywhere Lan at the 16 so James Madison's offense will take the first swing of the game and there he is a man who makes an entire Stadium hold its breath every time he touches the ball Jesse this defense better have a lot of breath in this game too because he gets better as the game goes on he's the kind of guy David who canar a defense uhoh he is the we took a nice big hit that first down was huge we got to check the we tear here first and 10 they'll run the screen nice move wow what a Juke he makes nice on first leaves him in second man there's a lot of differents this ATT throwing the one of them is running going to get and the yellow match think a little bit [Applause] more they'll Run play action he fires a bullet to the right what a catch caugh this offensive line does such a good job communicating in their pass protection you can see guys pass Defenders off to one another and that's why the quarterback had so much time to complete that throw deep down field oh wow beautiful cut they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down a beautiful cut you loving what you're seeing from your offense here on the opening drive at this game they're in a really nice Rhythm they've got real good balance going on right now and they've got the defense on their heels oh wow that was bad and knock him down back at the the dues want to move quickly this defense got a lot of people's attention last week when they wide open oh no we screwed up his and we screwed up out of the back takes it other way and he has created a great Sudden Change opportunity that's a bad read the offense set for a first down play like yeah that's a bad read he'll keep it himself that just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five lost five on that first play and now it's second and 15 back to pass it's booty oh wow that's another big stuff you're not going to win a lot of games if you can't protect your quarterback in their last game they got sacked four times lost the game and so far in this one they're having difficulty again these guys up front have got to do a better job communicating and giving their QB time going to try to pop one on the screen and we're getting the ball back we've already made one mistake war team on the field doesn't for your drive when you're oh oh come on catch but a flag is on the field let's see what that's aboutou kick oh come on we're already the officials offer the deal and the coach accept that they will take the penalty so it's first and 10 after costly defensive penalty on fourth down from the gun they'll try to impose their running game a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior didn't get much on first down it's second and N he's looking to throw oh that's you the whole way the line at the 42 facing let alone I think that also would have said uh to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short one of the things I love about this defense is they just have such great awareness and they're always communicating they understood the down and distance they knew exactly what they needed to do to make the tackle to force the punt that is so well done it'll go out of bounds and we'll see where they mark it it's going to be right around the 35 James Madison sends the offense back onto the field and boy they missed an opportunity last time throwing that pick in the Red Zone David and you got to put that frustration behind you you can't turn it over that's that's a cardinal sin points off theard but you got to move on you do I just got way too over we just had a bad read that last drive so just come out oh that's a good read oh he dropped it was a good ball wide are one of those where I tap my helmet like dude that was me you know exactly where he's going to down you anticipate it you throw it you know he's going to come back and make that play for him and a good solid pick up for the defense Cuts him down after the productive first down play it's second and six to the air it's Morris oh wow how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incomp man that's a couple bad throws last possession obviously ends in an interception for this quarterback and now you throw another one you know In Harm's Way you got make sure throw to the open that he got trying to it it'll bring upth s's first one of the day on the way we didn't see that Victory last just called on one time Monroe back the ready and we are starting out slow didn't quite find the rhym on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocks and establishing this running game and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole off at your disposal oh wow to rid of that one good job to avoid the l a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to [Applause] pass field position the line with a fresh set of downs wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling at the third percent third field position has been a big thing throw the bid I love it when you attack the whole field and the middle of the field and being able to throw over line and sa is a that defense will like yeah here comes the offense on second down [Applause] and at the end of the first quarter we have no Score first [Music] quens the TA so man and I have honestly messed up every single opportunity let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm here in the second we'll start the quarter offense about to snap it on second down the give to the running back from the shotgun I have fumbled the bag twice this game thir late I have fumbled the bag twice oh that pocket collapsing and the defense is all over the quarterb and down he goes and you don't want to see this trend continue last week he was sacked four times the offensive line This offense as a whole needs to get in better situations get rid of the football faster and not keep getting their quarterback hit return oh I didn't even fa catch that catch guys James Madison ready to go back on the attack David the punter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the out here this offense needs to get backed up and get a little bit more yep we're good here best way to do that identify where your best players get focus on the continuation of picking up where we left off and I think to a we have made mistakes David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going the G from the gun they push it out to the 39 after picking up five you know you start day one training camp run your base runs you need a few yards you run these plays you need a first down you run these play over and over and over again not sexy they're not pretty but in the end they're effective and they get you that new set Downs when you need the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough all right second and eight oh oh wow I thought I clicked on him and I thought I was going to get the pick just got to getting the man on the ground' got it down to the now it's second and goal second and goal defensively I so much more man coverage when it gets down near the and we give up the touchdown with the point after splits those uprights right in half and there's a flag foul wow I didn't even touch him but we're going to looking like we're not going to get very much of a return here because that's it Midfield and Touchback going to get a return here they'll bring it out to the 25 a kickoff sails through the back of the end zone first down for this offense snap he's looking to throw it safe comp on the screen oh good block they finally get him stopped but what but we get the to set up the screen and create some Lan for their running back they've got it at the 37 it's first and 10 he's going to pass oh he dropped it inet if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball couldn't make the connection on first down now here on second back to throw it's Morris oh wow he was drilled just as he released the pass it's incomplete third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off unloads oh no intercepts and the QB's having a rough game and first the rough game look through they'll throw it the back on well we got the stop We Run Tampa two he's back to throw on second down big sack and we'll call a timeout defense going to use a timeout can't afford to have any confusion on the call here let's see what they find in the playbook for third and long from the 43 he's looking down field to throw they've got the screen set up we can debate whether that was ground he dropped it he dropped it good defense hey man if you're going to force incompletions when the QB's thrown to the tight end you better be physical nice job with the hit forcing that incompletion the ground running with power time out they sto him a game probably just wanted toate the loses withth down coming referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with the big play coming fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he's got it he's got great speed all right we're at Midfield we're going to take a shot play here final play of the half to the air on first down they're trying to get and we just cannot do anything we've played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Conor in our halim update the thing that has really hurt [Music] us the passing game through two quarters Bend but don't break they've managed to neutralize the explosive Playmakers on each side by this has been a very lowc scoring game very ugly game the X's and O's and just like that let's head back to our team inside Malone Stadium passing has been I am going to say the biggest thing here has been that passing has been at a premium this game and he's going to try to return this one I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 Monroe has it back in the off ready to go to work pass second always watch you see what of twe made at the especially when locked up in a game like we've been running the ball a little better this game get shots try to make some plays and really go for it yeah it's interesting I think as play callers right now you learn a lot about these coaching staffs with respect to who does make the best adjustments there's a lot of coaches that believe we're just going to be who we are we're going to keep what we do we're just going to do it better but then there are others that twe things a little bit and that pass Not only was picked off but it is a house call touchdown dukes and the defense has given us the lead and how about the defender exactly what you're supposed to breaks on the football makes the inter we haven't been able to pass take it to the's Che with Kevin St Kevin guys after we have just pulled a major turnoff battle turnover battle and picked up a much needed Victory it wasn't a masterpiece but let's be honest it wasn't a loss either it's one game you don't want to react too much either way but I think both teams this one with some things to work on moving forward how about that sounds as if they had a good ball game there Kevin thanks for the update now on second down playing some Sun Belt Smith takes the hand [Applause] off first this has been a very interesting game defense in between the tackles he keeps a low pad level and he's got some speed they're going to ride this oh no I missed continues fight yard and they'll finally but we get the hit we get the hit to eventually settle the whole thing down right first they right back to their playmaker at running back and I love the push they got up front getting a hat on a hat opening a huge hole for the and you become so hard to defend I was like oh no we just gave up a hole successfully on first down you're starting like that now what opens up play action now you're making me play oh let's hit him let's come off untouched and get one it'll oh motion a shot oh no he caught it we just got the top taken off of us man is that perfect you but man we got a we got to make a big play got to make a big play oh that was assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 James Madison sends the offense back on the Feld but here we are they'll out of the shot oh wow we just got blown up uh so now we got to pass we got to pass a little bit scared I don't just cover guys I tack uhoh we're good we're good here a really good example of why coaches don't want a quarterback to get stuck on a particular Target is yep exactly right the guy oh we're good here yeah we can avoid the wear and tear but but honestly I think the running game has been the biggest help another routine day for this guy who's been among the nation's leaders in rushing all season long he's right on Target and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few well he was putting up big num com knew I mean the running back has been getting a little more has been a little more reliable but now I got to kind of let up I got to kind of let up on the running back a little bit that we tear on running and usually oh give me a block there we go thir now starting to make a few more things work that match up's not bad I just got to time him seems like a simple rout but it's actually a lot more complex whats at the top oh that was let him a little wide let him a little wide nice job of those guys being on the same page there looking for a man it's Morris always wide open let's get out of bounds let's get out of bounds pick up and moving the sticks for a first down the Dukes are in the Red Zone trying to C this with oh he's up he's up he's up oh out and goal and that's a really good example of why offensive coordinators script plays you know the oh he wide open TouchDown we finally get something in the passing game'll and now we have a 21-4 [Music] lead and a 10-play drive not the worst thing in the world and he's coming out of Theo at the 1 he's probably second guessing that return guys we'll see what this war hawk offense can get done this time after standing on the Seline watch that long drive they need to oh that went nowhere that's a real thing like you play a lot of plays you get worn out you need a chance to go decompress in the sideline get some oxygen now it's on this offense yeah this is the definition of complimentary football cuz it's a two-prong problem you got to score points and answer you've also got to take your time and give your defense an opportunity to get their win it be first and 10 the 29 this has been a very very tough game and I've had to be in every single throw out second of it and they himly but a good there second and two for a second down play out of the gun the there's a there's a tackle there's a tackle third and we have hit the end of the third quarter and we're up by a touchdown the end of the quarter as of the field let's take a quick look at the national rankings so ruter is 4 and0 when you're dealing with a deficit like this it's all about somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter they'll throw on Third and short oh he dropped it oh they really good defense we're getting the ball back we are getting the ball back and the warks out the a lot of work heed tonight oh we're going to try and run this oh we get a nice run to the outside his ankles broken we weren't even near him we weren't even near himam back on the attack back to pass it's Morris a shot toward the end zone taking the we're giving up plays oh my goodness here before the defense finally makes the stop I think if you're the head coach at this point you're telling offense doesn't matter what's happened up this point of the game obviously things haven't gone our way but we have a chance to execute in a two-minute situation and give ourselves a chance to win let's go do it one play at a time halfway there on first down it's second and five he looking to throw oh manose that as he got trying to deliver the football and now they face third down we'll see if they go back to the air after the incomp it's third and that's why isang D because they can scry because ofici they this is a tough game defens in a difficult situ throw it on first we're there we're there we there oh and that's an interception man we just happened to be kicking a little bit of General booty as we just barely hang on and win this one oh my goodness and he'll first after give him 114 yards on the ground and he's been terrific All Season ranking in the top 10 in rushing they'll give it to him again oh wow give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up and this a sit and we're going to let this run down to the twom minute warning now we start to control the ball control the ball keep it between the tackles and a first down again quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense and as they come to the line they have the lead and they have the clock on their side first and goal and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go they'll use a timeout here you have to be certain at this point in the game give to the Running Oh go like get the ball up the field by the ball back and save as much time as possible they love to make this short field off with a touchdown instead of a field goal but it's third and [Applause] goalis oh wow I'm just like yeah yeah we're just going to make this a quick pass we're going to make this a quick pass just score the tutty and be done with it now they got to get two scores in a minute 47 seconds not impossible we do not make the big playb it'san J okay big play ofb and aining outome and certainly a game with implications far beyond just the standards phis and Kevin Conor's keeping an eye on everything all over the sounds like they had a good one there oh and general booty has been sacked Juni knows how to get him on the [Applause] ground on second down just keeps firing looks that one in nicely and where third and two third and two it's all going to depend on what they decide to do we're up by two scores this guy just throws comps man the ball doesn't seem to the ground's back there's making the rights right now oh he's short he just a little bit of backward progress he'll try to toss it oh they've got a first out of but it will be enough for a first down and the warhawks come to the line with a new set of downs wants to throw on [Applause] first out of we're having to force him to make quick passes shorter passes because they so Qui and so d get open and catch the football NOP and we're first and goals after the big and they'll be set up in for the first andal so so close to cashing it in for this offense to throw it's [Applause] boy no oh he got it oh man and still to go great job by this the now got a one possession and it's a one possession game and we got to go to the onside get but we had to kick some butt in order to in order to get ourselves kind of whipped back into shape for it not the greatest go round for this but I've got 10 points I'm going to save them and we advance on to the next week and we have been knocked out a championship Contender we're at a B now Stadium atmosphere C and brand exposure we're moving on up our next game will be against the Coastal Carolina shantaa clear but before we go too far we are going to go through Rec Recruitment and we now will lose a linebacker but we pick up a bunch of hours and now we got to look we're about to get a tackle we're about to get a tackle can we fight back and get this guy can we fight back and get him um no I think we're I think we're going to have to pull out of getting this tackle I mean we're dominating getting this tackle um we have a scholarship offered I I think we I think we scheduled this visit for Marshall and I think we played the team dinner for you all right all right here oh no
