his 94th catch of the Year tying the Virginia record looking to set the record to the End Zone look at [Applause] that man just barely got it away and the ball is caught intercepted James Jackson for Virginia for candria true freshman St on campus in January has a man at is wide open it's Kobe face kobby face to the house [Music] [Applause] welcome to the first edition of who you got for the 2024 football season a third and pivotal season for head coach Tony Elliott I'm Conwell Morris joined by Kate duza we'll be previewing the season ahead and their season opener against Richmond UVA football ended last season with a 3-9 record a lot of games with the highlight of the Season being an upset over number 10 UNC Kate what did you think about last year's football season yeah I mean I think that quarterback kandria had a really strong freshman um campaign he was a true freshman had over 1900 total passing yards so that was super impressing from him and I think that as he like grows in the field and gets more confident um we're going to really see him like take charge of that Virginia offense um and also like picking up grad transfer Chris Tyrie um out of Notre Dame that was huge for the Cavaliers um cuz obviously we lost Washington last year as he graduated um so having like him to fill that hole is would be really important I agree Anthony candry down the stretch was really impressive especially as a true freshman coming in and making a lot of big plays at the same time UVA struggled at times with running the ball the one game where we were able to actually move the ball down the field control the pace of play was against UNC and we ended up upsetting a highly ranked team it was run by committee last year now we might have found our starting running back Chris Pace he's a fifth year postgraduate but he had a big season at Clemson as a freshman he's looking to repeat that performance again in addition to that the offensive line needs to shore up some of its holes as candria found himself Under Pressure a lot throughout last season right and I think it's also going to be really important for the Cavaliers to be able to close out these games um I mean in the 2023 season they had four games where they were at one point had a two um like two-digit lead which is huge um so just making sure that they can like the defense can like close up that and um finish the game strong of important I agree this is an important season for Tony Elliott his third here at UVA 6 and 16 through his first two seasons he really needs to prove that his system can work in Charlottesville and we'll see what happens in the 2024 season the Cavaliers are going to open up the 2024 season here at Scott Stadium against the Richmond Spiders and I think that the key to this season is really going to be momentum so getting the season off to the on the right foot and beating Richmond is going to be really important for Virginia um so Conwell what's your key to the game I totally agree I think that momentum is huge for this team especially the defense that gave up 33.8 points a game last season it was a reason that we weren't able to close out a lot of tough games close games where we even had double digit leads our dline last year was ranked the worst in power five football but we'll see if Chico Bennett Jr and his last year at UVA can repeat a junior year performance in which he led the team with seven sacks I think if they can show some strength early it'd be great for the rest of the season what do you think is your key to the game yeah I think that um candria on the offense getting off to a good start is going to be really important um obviously as I said before kandri is going to come in and have even more momentum rolling in from last season but also with the addition of um Chris Tyree and Andre Green from North Carolina um I think it's going to really be important for Canda to mesh with those wide receivers earlier in the season I agree now it's time for us to give you our picks for the game this Saturday uva's coming into this game as a 19point favorite Kate who you got yeah so as you said virgin is a huge um favorite for this game and I think they're going to live up to the expectation so I think Virginia is going to take the win 34 to 16 yeah there's not a lot of mystery here this is FBS versus FCS uva's 10- one against Richmond in their last 11 matchups I think UVA is going to run away with this 34 to 22 kickoff is this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. it'll be Richmond versus UVA we'll all be there I'm conell Morris alongside Kate duza wva
