[Music] I will be frank with you that as a citizen I would not like to see any political party outlawed on the basis of its ideology because I still believe Mr chairman that democracy can handle it I was a brand new KB officer given my first intelligence assignment a certain actor and Union Leader what is one thing that learned from stepping into the shoes of one of the most well-known US Presidents in history and what what did you learn from him in the process of of making this film well he was called a great communicator you know and everybody felt like they knew him actually that's I mean it's part of the reason that uh he became president had so much support but the Great Communicator was a very private person there was a wall there that he kept a a sense of private y to himself that I think he drew strength from or or whatever it it uh I think Nancy uh that got to see behind that wall but few people did and that's I think where he lived as himself his most intimate self I think that's why he had that ranch was it a way to not necessarily Escape but for him to feel like himself um and and Nancy lovingly would live at the ranch with them even though it was teeny but they live very modest lives actually it's not what people expect but that's what I think is cool about the movie it's not you don't see it's not what we're used to seeing it's a human story about these people and what be helped them to become what they became and and so iconic well I I've learned quite a little bit because done some research and then the script was very helpful and it was longer than it it's been paired down to what we have now we had a very long film at one point but uh I think I I you know I think you know I learned why he had this his view of this Soviet Union came very early in his life with a visit from somebody from you know uh somebody from Russia who visited the house and reported on some of the Terrors that he had experienced so I I learned a lot of little things about it but I had been acquainted with Ronald Reagan because I lived during that time and uh and I think that that uh Dennis and and Penelope andne Miller did a wonderful job in recreating their relationship was quite beautiful so it's a love story really and on top of being you know the story of his rise to the presidency and his decisions I'm curious Ron what would you say is the issue of our time no question about it communism and the Soviet Union get in the game run for office it's you I'm running for governor and I would like your vote I forgotten your name do his initials help are our honey Roy Rogers is here and he's running for you stepped into the shoes of also one of the most well-known um first ladies in the uh US History what did you learn from her in the process of of making this film well I learned a lot about her heart and her insecurities and her vulnerabilities and her strengths I I read her autobiography which was enormously helpful and resourceful even some of the lines you know I said oh no she said it like exactly like this and and they were so collaborative with me were like well sure that's what she said um but it you know everything it was it was daunting and scary to play her um and and I felt like owed to her Legacy to honor her as as well as I could um and so you know the wigs the Wardrobe I had to look like her as much as I could but if anything I wanted to capture her Essence and be as believable and truthful you know uh flaws and all I wanted to show a real person and uh and playing oppos of Dennis uh who did an amazing job uh as as Ronald Reagan was just I think we just had a great Rapport and chemistry and and the love story is such a big part of this film and the and is the heart of the film that that was really important that we get this right what is one thing you uh want audiences to walk away with um after watching the film given that we are in an election year oh well I you know I I just think it's good to see um a portrait of the this was by the way this movie should have been out a year and a half ago but we hadit covid and it slowed everything down and then we had a then we had an actor you know the strike and that made it impossible to do certain things so it was pushed to this date and now we're in the middle of a you know an election period and probably it's a good thing because it gives people an opportunity to see what what the president is about you just wait what did the president know and when did he know it what would you have me do I want you to fight Mr gerbach tear down this walls to world
