well it has been a golden start to Australia's par Olympic Games with our Paras swimmers beginning the medal hole with gold silver and bronze wins this morning and our very own Charles Bryce is there in Paris to catch us up on all the action good day Charles so gold on day one couldn't have been better start to the games really no it doesn't get much better than this does it and Tom Gallia having the perfect start to his parp par Olympic campaign winning gold tonight uh in the S10 50 m freestyle he was quickest throughout the Heats this morning and he backed that up with a phenomenal swim taking out the 50 m uh in 23.4 seconds it is really a Splash and Dash that 50 m freestyle race uh barely taking a breath uh during uh their their Sprint to the wall uh it's uh it was an incredible race uh and he certainly uh picked up his form uh in Tokyo he finished fifth in that same event but it is the Golden Boy for Australia at the moment uh we also had some other success in that race as well Rowan KES was also in there he was one of the favorites for this race of course the defending champion of the 50 m freestyle in the S10 classification he finished third and it was a really touching moment during the medal ceremony between those two Tom Gallagher in fighting Rowan CRS up onto the top step of the podium as the Australian national anthem sang out around the crowd the atmosphere inside the the stadium inside the pool right behind me was absolutely incredible it was deafening from time to time uh particularly when Frenchman UGA did a one gold the crowd went absolutely Bonkers you could barely hear yourself think uh and it's really just set the tone for the par Olympics there's certainly no sign of sporting hangover here in France so with that gold medal it's put Australia sixth on the medal tally already uh with plenty more competition still to come and Charles that wasn't the only medal Australia claimed overnight no we saw quite a bit of success uh in the poll uh as well Brendan Hall Australia's flag bearer he proved that you can go to the opening ceremony uh the night before and then back up with a phenomenal performance that was in the 400 m freestyle in the S9 uh he had a pretty pretty tough race he did really well uh for the majority of that it looked like he was out of metal contention but a really strong 100 final 100 m uh really saw him back into contention uh the 50 m uh the final 50 m uh it was really where he sha and was able to move uh into that third place Lisha Patterson also in the s9400 M uh she came away with a silver medal she had a strong lead throughout the majority of that race she went out to a 4se second lead that was cut down to just over a second with about 100 m to go unfortunately for her she couldn't hold on she came away with silver uh by just 3/10 of a second so heartbreak for Laticia there but um second is still a phenomenal performance uh and uh it's just wrapped up a great night at the great first night here in the pool uh it certainly was a great first night and Charles plenty else happening as well take us through the rest of day one well the wood rugby uh got under way today Australia taking on Great Britain going into this game you would have expected the Aussies to Come Away with a win they are the current world champions but that wasn't to be Great Britain they held about a three TR lead for the majority of the game the Aussies fought back within the dying minutes in that last quarter uh they got back to within one try and really looks like they had that momentum in the final 2 minutes but a couple of unforced Errors uh and a couple of turnovers saw Great Britain take uh uh last few minute tries uh taking a a three TR lead in that game so not the start the Aussies would have wanted they are going to be taking on the home team in France tomorrow night it is a must-win game in their group stage to to be able to make it through to the finals uh with relative ease and of course the wheelchair basketball is currently underway at the moment Australia taking on the Netherlands just a few minutes ago Australia up 21- 20 so that is going to be a very exciting match as it unfolds into the night here in Paris ah what a cracker first day Charles thank you we'll chat to you again soon so after all of that action overnight this is how the metal tally looks Australia is six on the table with one gold one silver two bronze China is on top Great Britain on second Italy and the Netherlands following behind
