what better way to close out a season than to play in a historic rivalry the oldest and most played rivalry in the South will take place with 134th time you know what spider fans it wouldn't be too surprising if once again this game carried CAA championship and FCS playoff implications for both teams heck yeah hello spider fans everywhere and college football fans Across America and around the world at Satchmo from the spider gang proud to be back for the grand finale of this year's pre-season opponents Countdown the William and Murray tribe will come to the brick house on November the 23rd for the regular season ending Game 12 this amazing rivalry stands at 6564 four and five ties since it began in 1898 the spiders are up by one championships and playoffs aside this is the game that stands out for both programs is the one they want to win the most William and Murray led by former Ur National Championship head coach Mike London is coming off a disappointing 2023 season in which they finished four and four in the CAA after having been ranked as high nationally as fourth in the FCS preseason polls a string of injuries and a sometimes inconsistent offense hindered the tribe coach London says the goal of chasing and winning championships has never changed on CAA media day he remarked that his team's leadership may be the best of any team he's had at William and Murray London also believes he's improved his coaching staff by adding a new offensive coordinator with star running back Brun Yoder recovered from a season ending injury coach London believes Yoder and those surrounding him give the tribe the best group of skill position players since he arrived at William and Murray the tribe returns 13 starters as coach London observed nine starters return on offense they include all CA precincts and picks Yoder and running back Trey McDonald and offensive lineman Charles Grant three other members of the squad received honorable mention only four starters returned from wean Murray's outstanding defense of the last several years younger less experienced players and transfers will have to fill several significant gaps on CAA media day W Murray was picked to finish fourth in the 16 team conference could this rivalry again produce a championship game with playoff implications it seems like it could the tribe CAA schedule looks almost identical to that of the spiders the only difference opponents being spiders play Delaware the tribe plays Stony Brook that doesn't seem fair the other seven opponents are the same coach hughman who once coached at William Murray has had success versus the tribe with a 5-2 record since arriving in 2017 including the 20 21 Spring Game all but one of these games has been decided by seven points or less the last two have had CA championships on the line spider fans this rivalry retains the best attributes of college football and it's one of the best rivalries in college football nowhere could be much finer than the brick house on a Cris Sunny late November afternoon that's all for we and Murray and that's all for the preseason opponents countdown once again it's been my pleasure to present the countdown it helps me and I hope some spiders fans get through the dog days of summer and to build some good mojo for the football season I'm optimistic that for the third year in a row Richmond fans will again enjoy watching a talented team battling for a CAA championship in playoff spot I hope all spot spider fans will support the team in whatever way you can let's put all of our spiders Mojo behind them don't look now but game one versus the Virginia Cavaliers is next Saturday it's game week look for the spider gang weekly features beginning this week let's play some real football ghost spids so long for now
