CMU Football Looks to take another step forward in 2024

Now Sports with Garrett Brown well may not seem like it but we're 25 days away from Maverick football kicking off with the team officially starting camp tomorrow and the Mavs are looking to take a big Leap Forward year three of the Coach K regime the Mavericks will be opening up the season on the road down in Texas against Texas A&M Kingsville who the Mavs actually lost to at stoker Stadium 30 to10 to open last season but that young Mavericks team made strives forward after that after going four- six in 2022 the 2023 Mavericks went on to post a winning record of six and five including a win over a division one team in the University of San Diego and at the Rocky Mount Athletic Conference media days coach Kay says he sees another step forward for the team coming this season um you know coming off of last season we felt we left a lot out on the field but being able to have some momentum coming up at the end of the year and stringing together you know a pretty good little stretch uh gives us that confidence that we need um as we continue to learn how to win a big strength for this year's Mavericks Squad is the returning production on the defensive side of the ball all five of the Mavericks top tacklers from last season will be back and the Mavericks defense was second in the arac in interceptions the emphasis at practice uh it starts with the preparation um from our coaches uh that's a big highlight a big point of emphasis is turning the ball over so it starts with the preparation uh the ball drills from coach Tren Matthews uh that's that's a big point of emphasis because we don't just want it to be on the offense so so uh every day turnover is a big big a big point of emphasis so um we really hit broad drills every day so just so we can turn the ball over the Mavericks will have their home opener on September 14th taking on another armac opponent in Central Washington University CMU will look for their first program Victory against CWU Mavericks are 0 and Two Against the Wild Cats all time
