in Charlotte which is a great time to start to see the Panthers draft picks we get to see Xavier Legette out there on the field we get to see Jaden crumedy from Mississippi State on the field that's awesome it's one more small step towards actual football being played at Bank of America Stadium and across the NFL and I'm happy about that and you know what the players also got their numbers if you checked out panthers.com on Wednesday xav Legette sticking with number 17 which he broke out in this past season out South Carolina Jonathan Brooks sticking with 24 which he wore at Texas CH Smith Wade gonna be wearing 26 here in Carolina Michael barretts G be number 41 trevan Wallace will be 56 Tavon Sanders not GNA be zero anymore he's gonna be wearing 85 and I think zero is still available now that Brian Burn's the only player in Panthers history is no longer here in Carolina only player in Panther history to wear zero is no longer here in Carolina Jaden crumedy wearing ing 96 so there you go there's the numbers of your rookie draft class here in 2024 and we'll get to know who some of the other guys officially who have been signed there's been a lot of reports about who the udfas the undrafted fre agens are here in Carolina I'm going to discuss the reported signings at the end of the show as I discussed their chances potentially to make the roster maybe impressed this weekend as much as one can impress during rookie mini camp before we get there post-draft seven new players officially on the roster why not take some time now today to look at the impact that those seven players can have on the current depth chart as we head into rookie mini camp this weekend and then OTAs later on this month the next month rookie next month mandatory mini camp and then of course we get prepared for training camp here in uptown Charlotte so we'll start off with the offense Bryce young Andy Dalton according to panthers.com are the only two quarterbacks officially on the roster and I'm sure by time this comes out whether it be on YouTube on Wednesday night or Thursday when you're listening or watching the Panthers would officially dropped the rookie mini camp roster and announced the guys that they signed as undrafted fre agents but as of this recording that has not happened so Bryce young Andy Dalton those are your two top quarterbacks and I don't think that's necessarily going to change no matter who they signed or will sign down the road it's going to be BR it's going to be Andy those going to be your top two quarterback in Carolina the Panthers would like to get a veteran they would also potentially like to get a young rookie who they can also develop along with Bryce and have Andy there as a veteran in the room will'll see how that works out for them but right now only two quarterbacks officially listed on the roster for the Carolina Panthers running back not officially listed just yet but we know JN the Brooks he's a Carolina Panther has not signed neither of the drift draft picks have signed I think at some point you might find out this weekend that a couple of those guys maybe one or two have signed officially in Carolina we'll see how that pans out I'm not necessarily concerned about any of the seven holding out and not being Carolina Panthers when it matters most which will be during training camp I expect all of them to be a part of OTAs all those that are healthy enough to do so John the Brooks of course would not be healthy to do that should be good to go once training camp rolls around late in July but right now looking at the depth chart I have him as the top Panthers running back chuba hubard probably should be up there just based off of his availability right now and his experience and all that they've said about him this offseason that I've actually believed all the lies have been told to us about miles Sanders those those aren't true as much as they love miles as much as they see him playing a big role in this offense how they highly value him no no no no that's not true and we saw that on Monday as they brought in Rashad penny and I did tell y'all that I don't know if Rashad penny is necessarily going to take miles Sanders job but he does have experience in this scheme knows a coaching staff better than miles Sanders does and he's not coming off of an impressive season at all well playing only three games with the Eagles miles has been a better player than him it's just another sign of this team is looking for other running backs outside of my Sanders and chuba hubber but Jonathan Brooks chuba hubard miles Sanders I would have Raheem black sheir number four the number five on the depth chart I would then have Rashad Penny we'll see how all that pans out down the road as black sheer is a special teams guy he can return kicks for you with the rule changes he's going to be a vital part of the special teams for Carolina this year which I think is how he'll make the roster Tariq Cohen Spencer Brown Mike Boone those are the other three backs in the roster Tariq was on the practice squad last year so was Spencer Brown and if tariq's healthy maybe like Raheem black sheer and possibly Xavier Legette he could be someone who could help them out when it comes to being a returner a punt returner especially which which he did really well when he was in Chicago helped him get paid before he had that awful string of injuries now Amir Smith marett is still back here in Carolina competition though it's a good thing to have on your roster especially if you're coming off of a two and 15 season and needing to have many overhauls on both sides of the ball which we went over earlier this week on the show wide receiver Deontay Johnson Adam thielen Xavier Legette those are my top three Deontay is gonna play the X he is going to be the first read those are the words of Dave Canales the Carolina Panthers head coach Adam th going to be back in the slot and on the other side at the outside receiver spot will be Xavier look at be very curious to see how they utilize him throughout this offense do they put him in jet sweeps do they put him in the back field maybe to car of the football the Deep ball that's something you expect to P the play at be a big factor in of course so those are the top three clearly to me then after that Mingo I would say is the fourth receiver Terrace Marshall maybe is the fifth or possibly it's Amir Smith marett who does provide speed and was that Gadget guy last year is that going to be the role he plays yet again this year or is he going to be more of a complete wide receiver how many opportunities is he truly going to get and then you have David Moore who I look at as more of a practice squad guy and it's kind of break in case of emergency this is somebody you're gonna bring up on the roster if something goes Ary with the wide receiver core like really ay with the wide receiver core this upcoming fall and he did play last year in Tampa for Dave Canalis who he knew dating back to his time in Seattle where he did have Some solid roles as a number three receiver a couple years ago behind DK and behind Tyler Lockett then once it came to Carolina didn't make the roster and he's kind of bounced on and off of rosters the last couple of Seasons hoping to make the 53 here in Carolina later this year cam Sims Mike straw Jaylen Camp those are the other receivers currently on the roster but Deontay Johnson Adam th Xavier Legette those are the top three then Mingo Marshall Smith marett Moore they're fighting for a roster spot and possibly some of the udfas one of them in particular from Holy Cross could be that seventh receiver at the Carolina Panthers decide to take seven receivers once roster cutdowns happen later on in August tight end Tommy Trimble still tight end one to me he's probably their best allaround tight end as far as blocking and receiving to Tavon Sanders the thought on him at least the book out on him he's not a great blocker not physical enough in that space the hope is that Pat mcferson will get him there eventually he'll be the number two and the great thing about having Tommy Trimble is Trimble can be a solid number two tight end pass catching option but can be your top run blocking and pass blocking option at tight end then you can have gavon Sanders on the other side as your top pass catching tight end and Ian Thom is sprinkled in there as well like those are G to be the top three tight ends and Carolina ston Sullivan is still a converted wide receiver to a tight end trying to learn the nuances of that position and you see just how difficult it can be for someone who did not play that position in college at least Sanders did play it in college and played it fairly well as far as being an offensive weapon in the past game Selvin fourth guy Jordan Matthews Chris Pierce they're also on the roster I will be interested to see how many tight end they decide to carry and if they want to bring in anyone else maybe some veteran experience offensive tackle iky aanu Taylor Molton those are gonna be your bookend tackles at left and right respectively Yash nyman he is your swing tackle they signed him from Green Bay this offseason ill Manning who they picked up late last year from San Francisco apologies to Ill Manning for missing out on going to the Super Bowl Ricky Lee badara trior those are the other tackles pretty clear the top three guys KY Taylor Yash nyman anything happens to icky or Taylor knock on wood Yash will be up there there's a possibility that Brady Christensen who's also play both tackle spots during his career in Carolina under two different coaching staffs he didn't play tackle last year under that coaching staff we understand the point here at least you should understand the point he's someone who's versatile enough to play all five positions and could step up and play tackle if and a pinch looking at the guards Damen Lewis Robert hunt the two big free agent signings they will be there at left guard and Right Guard respectively Kade Maye chandala appear to be the top two guys in line to come in there and to either step in due to injury or potentially start we'll see how that factors in at some point this season the positive part about it is they got a lot of live bullets last year Mae has the past season and then even the year prior where he was in the Arby's package you got to play a little bit CH V play well but as a rookie it's hard to step up from being a fourth round pick playing in the ACC Iden state to coming to the NFL and seeing a different kind of size and speed that you just don't consistently see at the college level even if you're in the SEC or the Big 10 you're just not going to see it on an everyday basis he had to see it last year he had his struggles had injuries as well Nas Jensen was thrown into the fire late last season as an undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State he got benched later on that year but he has experience I like that you have three younger offensive linemen that you can continue to develop as backups and who knows maybe down the road they get an opportunity to be a starter if God forbid Lewis or hunt don't pan out for the Panthers after spending all that money that is a good thing to have experience dep which I believe they do have now with May zala and Jensen D JD dorenzo is also on the roster listed at guard now at center Austin Corbett he's going be your starter and turns out Brady Christensen is going to be the backup center as a now I would think too that if Lewis or hunt got hurt christensen's the first guy they're going to call to play guard he's just spending most of his time repping at Center as that's not something he's done a lot in his career in Carolina if he's done it it's really been during this period of time or possibly in training camp as well it's never been in a game so it's important to get him and Austin Corvett up to speed especially if this team right now does not appear to be wanting to bring in a veteran Center they did bring in reportedly according to his Instagram as well a center who is an undrafted free agent we'll see how he kind of factors into this conversation but right now those are the only two listed centers on the roster Austin Corvett Brady Christensen an offense as I told you earlier this week I feel like is going to be much better than what we said last year I don't think they're going to be a bottom third NFL offense having offensive line with the kind of talent and depth and experience that they have that in itself will allow the Panthers to be able to run the ball control the line of scrimmage and give the passing game an opportunity now will the pass The Playmakers on the outside making up plays Will Bryce shung show the consistency that we failed to see from last year for a multitude of reasons can he look more like the guy we saw against the Packers than not those are questions that will have to be answered once to meets leather in September here in Carolina so that's the offensive depth chart as we head into rookie Manny camp and the rest of the OTA portion how about the defensive depth chart how's that looking as we head into all of that I'll talk about that here in just a moment on locked on Panthers this next segment is brought To Us by our sponsor better help sometimes we all need the opportunity to get something off our chest big or small certain things can really start to get to you it's important to let that out especially to someone 2024 post-draft and thinking about how it could look I think it's going be a lot better than it was last year can't be worse and adding the offensive line pieces having the depth there another under his belt for Bryce young getting the offensive skill position players on the outside like Deontay Johnson and the guys they added in the draft should be a better offense this year don't know how much better it's gonna be it's gonna be better but will it be top half the NFL will be a top 10 offense there I say I don't know about all that but has a chance to be a competent one now that the offensive line appears to be fixed fingers crossed they'll have to see how it plays out once we get there into the season and last year y'all were right once we got into not training training G yes if you watch the hard KN episode where the Jets were just dominating him and Quinn Williams had 11 sacks in one period which is oh boy that was startling and then you saw how things played out during the preseason if we get to the preseason and that is the case again sure still early allowing them to get the continuity but warning signs and the alarm Bells will be off yet again but defensively took a long look at them yesterday seeing how this unit will be about Brian Burns about Frankie louu and the multitud starters that exited this offseason and looking at the additions and wondering if in year two jro vero's defense can be better or can be good it really depends on how you looked at the defense last year in your interpretation of it I provided a ton of numbers please go back and listen to the show if you have not watched or listened to it if you'd like uh that will give you a pretty good breakdown just at least my thoughts on the defense heading into the rest of the offseason into the 2024 season but as far as depth chart goes looking at the dline I do have my fair share of concerns outside of the top guy on this list that is Derek Brown he is a pro bowler he is an All Pro Caliber player he just got paid congrats to him and his family and to the Carolina Panthers for not blowing this yeah they could still do it they paid CMC they paid DJ and then they sent them out the door because they couldn't figure out what the hell they were doing at quarterback Derrik Brown he has not been a casualty yet to this team ineptitude or ineptitude to quote Scott Bor when speaking of what David sepper has done to our beloved franchise here in Charlotte North Carolina but Derrik Brown he is the top player there on the defensive line will be starter yet again Shai Tuttle also be starting for them then asan Robinson replacing deshun Williams I believe that is an upgrade should be better against the run this season after that it's gonna be a dog fight to make this roster I know Jaden crummy the sixth round pick out of Mississippi state is a draft pick but he's gonna have to fight fight for a roster spot this year Nick Thurman he came out and honestly played like a dog at some points in time late in the season leban Ray he showed some promise and he has the pedigree having played at Alabama under Nick Sabin rayquan Williams he's been around the block a couple times he looked like he was gonna make the roster after that Giants game during the preseason one of the examples of where the preseason does matter but also it doesn't but we were also looking at just what the depth chart looked like at that point in time and seeing Mark Juan McCollin being around and maybe it was going to be rayquan Williams who's going to step into a role as a potential starter in Carolina or a big role player and that really wasn't the case last year with those four guys crumedy Thurman Ray Williams all gonna be fighting for a roster spot I think Thurman's probably gonna be fine crummy because of the draft compensation may be fine but he's gonna have to really battle to make that roster that is a good problem to have that kind of competition for a defensive blind group outside of Derrik Brown that I don't think is all that talented quite honestly and you look at the production from Tuttle and Robinson we kind of know who they are at this point in time need to see much more out a shy Tuttle he could be kind of that X Factor on the defensive line if he is able to actually play up to his contract this year that dline is much better with the addition as well of asan Robinson a noted run stopper which that's something deshun Williams did not do well at all last year here in Carolina outside linebacker your Edge rusher spots Jevan Clowney he will be a starter DJ wam who's going to miss all the offseason program here due to that torn what was it that he has an injured I what was it I I hate when I forget things like that on the Fly because it's just like you can't just say that and did not remember what to say he is currently out right now due to well I don't have it right now uh but an injury he's missing time right now um I'm sure someone will text me and tell me what it is and I can let me just look it up here on the show as I'm doing a terrible job remembering things as there's a lot of things to remember y'all covering a team on a daily basis who am I talking about again golly I hate this uh DJ wam DJ wam injury he has a partially torn quad that is serious he's gonna miss some time and we'll see how that impacts him heading into this 2024 season but he's slated to be a starter out outside linebacker more of a replacement toor G madas than he is Brian Burns Clowny is really the burns replacement was a better player than Burns last year but will he be a better player than Burns this year and in the future meaning next year as well in 2025 we will see those are two starters DJ Johnson Amari barno calean Chon they're going to be the trio that kind of rotate in and out really need DJ Johnson former third round pick from last year they traded up with Pittsburgh to get he needs to really step into the right direction and show some promise because there still is not a long-term answer at the edge rusher spot now that burns is no longer here in Carolina Clowny at least the next two seasons at most I would really think the next two seasons DJ wam could only be the next two seasons could only be this season depending on how he plays and the rest of them we got to see if Barne makes the roster Chason as well I'm think he's gonna get an opportunity just based off Todd wash being here he's not his position coach but we'll see how that works out U Leota and Lui balain they're also back here in Carolina and Leota is not someone to um ignore either as he really turns head last season and this is the same defensive coaching staff so you could see them really favoring players that they favored last season opposed to had it just been a complete overhaul on both coaching staffs that would be different where these guys would be really fighting for the attention of their coaches which they're still going to be doing inside linebackers sha Thompson Josie juel those are the two guys that are going to play the vast majority of snaps and that should really be the hope uh you would like to see Trevon walls get sprinkled in here and there just prepare to be the successor to sha Thompson next year as that is what people are assuming at least that's what I'm assuming and you know what happens when you assume I hope that's not gonna be the case uh but he's gonna have an opportunity I think to play a little bit after that it's a bunch of special teams guys Michael Barrett who the Panthers took at the seventh round alltime winning his player at Michigan the reports that he's too small to play linebacker not fast enough to play safety but he could be a special teams Ace and there is value in that in the seventh round I want to see special teams addressed in round seven I want to see it more be like a kicker but they got somebody who a lot of Scouts believe can be a special teams Ace and has that heart and soul to do it so we'll see how that works out Matt Miller of espn.com by the way he really liked the Michael Barrett pick by the Panthers Tate Davis CLT Charles CH won those are also three guys who are going to be fighting for roster spots more so as special teams players where Wallace is gonna be coming in as a backup uh Corner JC horn Dane Jackson Troy Hill that will be your Trio JC on the outside Dane also on the outside and Troy Hill there in that nickel spot CH Smith Wade should be the primary backup Detroit Hill at the nickel and if they don't add anybody if like Stefon gilor is come here they don't add a veteran I and I do think the the wresters it's never set not until we really get to the playoffs it's never set you got to get there first it's not really all that set it's an initial 53 we saw last year we see every year just because you initially made the roster does not mean that you're not going to be cut 24 hours later when the Panthers put in their waiver claims and then are able to get certain players that they wanted off of waivers and from my understanding because the Panthers were the worst team in the league last year they're going to be at the top of the waiver board right so they're gonna be able to get whoever they want as far as who gets cut from the other teams and if they see a corner who they really like they're gonna add that guy and that may be sayara to DiCaprio bu if he makes the roster or deshun Jameson who was one of those players who they brought in last year who got cut elsewhere in San Francisco Lamar Jackson AJ Parker I don't think they're gonna really be guys who make it here this season will'll see but horn Jackson Hill those are the top three guys Smith Wade should play a role and at some point whether it's Gilmore or another veteran out there who's available or after roster cutdown day they're gonna add another outside corner because they just do not have the depth in my opinion right now to feel comfortable in that spot safety Xavier Woods he's back for a third season starting in Carolina Jordan Fuller should be the starter opposite of him he was in the back in the secondary last year in Los Angeles he knows the scheme Nick Scott will be the backup to them didn't play well in Cincinnati last year quite honestly was pretty bad but he's he's a veteran player who knows a scheme and there is value to that Alex Cook had a step up last season and started a couple games played in 10 games total for Carolina after being signed off of the Raiders practice squad he's somebody who could maybe even step into a Bigg role maybe be ahead of Nick Scott we will see how that works out Sam Franklin you know him as a special team as's back in Carolina yet again in one of the few rule signings rule like true rule guys like Baylor Temple rule type of dude who has panned out and been a good player for what he was brought in to be and now was be a special teams player and still developing as a safety for Carolina Jamie Robinson was drafted last year in fifth round at FSU didn't play a lot last year forgot about him most of the time last season would like to see him Step Up get more opportunities we'll see how that works out special teams Eddie Panero Johnny Hecker JJ Janson those are your three Trio special teams guys right now on the roster so that's the offensive depth chart and the defensive depth chart now with rookie mini camp going on let's take a quick look at the undrafted fre agent class here in Carolina at least the ones that are reported Carolina on their website has not officially named any of these guys and also on their website as far as the roster goes they haven't officially put on like Xavier Legette and John the Brooks and the rookies that they just drafted want to quickly go over the players that are going to be expected to be there this this upcoming weekend at rookie mini camp here in Charlotte in just a moment unlocked on Panthers game time allowed there but the first time that we'll get a glimpse of the Carolina Panthers 20124 rookie draft class and we first time we get a glimpse at the players that have been signed as undrafted free agents postd draft here in Carolina as rookie mini camp is going on this weekend in uptown sh out there on Mt Street so good to see Xavier Legette here in town wearing number 17 we to see the rest of those guys as well now the Panthers at least as of this recording on late Wednesday afternoon have not officially announced who will be who are their UND free agents they haven't even put their rookie class officially on the website as far as like on the roster but there has been plenty of tweets over the last couple weeks about the guys that reportedly have signed in Carolina as undrafted free agents I want to go over that list real quick here and even point out a couple guys maybe to look at this weekend as there will be tryouts to there be some guys who are triy out players who are going to get invites who going to try to make the roster as they try to get to 90 or they're going to have to get to 90 as they get 90 but this is The Unofficial undre pre agent class and shout out to Cat Scratch Reader the Panther's ESP Nation blog for putting this out there The Observer had like half of these names and I think Mike and all of them do a great job over there they just didn't have the update just when the last article I looked at there uh but Jack plumber quarterback K Louisville he could fit into the role of being that third quarterback they didn't draft one and there was reports from Joe person athletic that they were interested in doing that and as we know that did not happen they could still get a veteran Jack plumber right now he's on the roster GNA got opportunity this weekend could be cut there's players here who are currently on the roster they could get cut for at their veterans who try out for mini camp this week and N veterans can go in try out or some other players who they just bring in for a tri as well Sam pikney wide receiver out of Coastal Carolina Taylor Upshaw he's an edge rusher out of Arizona Jaylen Coker wide receiver out of holy cross holy cross was a damn good FCS school last year Bob chzn he is now the head coach there at JMU up in Harrisonburg the Dukes have an outstanding football program that was built under Kurt STI Kurt Signet former Elon coach my own mod he's now at Indiana now Bob chzn leaves Holy Cross to go continue the tradition there at JMU and he has the resources to do it especially for a G5 School in the Sun Belt Jaylen Coker is somebody that has drawn some praise from Steve Smith Steve Smith also praised Jonathan Bingo we did not see that happened so far not saying that Steve Smith sen doesn't always talk about because obviously Steve knows everything not doesn't know everything but he knows a great deal about playing wide receiver and far more than I'll ever know about playing wide receiver at a high level in the NFL but he likes jayen Coker and that's good to hear and having mentioned earlier where there seven guys were talking about I don't think David Moore is a she wi to make the roster I don't think terce Marshall Jr is a shing to make the roster there is opportunity for some of these young guys to make the roster initially and then we'll see that what happens with roster cutdown is the Panthers again have the top priority when it comes to the waiver wire this year because they were the worst team in the league last year unfortunately popo amab out of Oregon he's a nose tackle Willie Drew quarterback out of Virginia state Derrik McLendon linebacker out of Colorado Andrew R is a center from Oklahoma and as I mentioned this these guys have not been officially announced by the Panthers but he's on his Instagram page as a Panthers player so Andre re is a center for OU from last year uh spot where Panthers did not draft a center I wanted to see them do that they decided not to do it Brady Christensen is their backup center Austin Corps her starting center is it possible that R who's been a two-year starter at OU built by benen bot Bill beb one of the best office line coaches in football period he was able to work with him the last couple Seasons maybe rain comes in here and pushes for a spot we'll see to John Gaddy Corner out of ol Miss Jeremy craw Jeremiah Crawford guard out of Tennessee deanii Richardson a safety out of Texas A&M Devin Carter wide receiver from West Virginia by way of NC State Jaden Sheran running back from Monmouth and this is a running back group that is loaded so it be very difficult loaded as far as experienced players and just what they just drafted and traded up to get and Jonathan Brooks so it be tough for him to make the roster Jackson Mitchell linebacker out of Yukon Harrison M kicker out of missis another one who I had my eye on was a really good kicker last year hit that 62 yard bomb to beat Kansas state had up and down tenure at maou 83% career kicker not the greatest gonna have to be far more consistent of course in the NFL but it's nice to have someone to come in push EDD Pino and see where that goes christian Duffy offensive lineman from Kanas State and they always half grade o linman from K State can't count him out Kenny Dyson defensive in from Bryant up in Rhode Island those are the unofficial undrafted free agent class here in Carolina we'll officially get those names truly I'm sure probably on Thursday or Friday as rookie mini camp begins here in TR I just want to get those out there
