hello welcome back to another reaction review video with me Nina scoffield singer songwriter vocal coach and session musician today we are listening to the new single from the weekend I can't wait to listen to this I have been waiting for new music from the weekend for such a long time I was Rel listening to his uh previous releases the other day and thinking when is it going to happen and it's this week it's today so okay uh This song is called dancing in the Flames what I'm going to do is the highlights version here on YouTube and then over on my patreon channel uh I'm lucky to be able to host things without copyright problems if I try and put the whole thing here on YouTube it will be blocked so this will be the highlights version and then if you want to go and watch the full version including the full music video over on patreon I will leave a link for that below but what we're going to do is listen to what's going on music-wise production wise vocal wise just see what's going on unpick a few things and enjoy this song I hope I really hope it's a great song like an instant sort of earworm let's see what happens okay here we go is this like a flashback scene to the car crash to a car crash okay classic kind of 80 cents [Music] what I like instantly is [Music] that stays the same as the chords change so it's sort of [Music] a thing on the synth and then yeah so keeping that pattern at the top the same as the chords change creates a really nice tension [Music] great [Music] Dr the way the chords are just going between the two actually for some reason in my head I was thinking it was going to change to a third chord there but that sort of took me by surprise somewhat you don't often find songs that just stick on two chords uh for this long great snare sound oh there's the third [Music] chord okay so is this a love song I'm kind of getting from just the chorus lyric I'm going to look up the lyrics properly at the end but we're dancing in the flames it's Indescribable that synth that we talked about that is really integral to this but also there's a Bassy synth going on that I think is really cool within the song now the Reverb has kind of opened out on the vocal uh he's got this kind of soaring vocal into this chorus and then visually I'm sort of trying to work it out but it's it's almost like to me he's driving in an underwater uh environment I think just because of the lighting whoa okay car crash listen to the Bassy synth here as this is happening the shattered glass such an interesting sound effect and you've got the those drums are very um bright in the mix I would say oh half [Music] time love that phrase we'll listen to that [Music] again great interval jump um that first movement from another Odyssey from the gsh 3 up to the a sorry yes a uh four I've just realized someone's drilling outside my house great timing uh oh no they're cutting down some trees anyway sorry about the background noise but that whole phrase was so cool and such a big jump to do that is beyond the octave so let's just hear that [Music] again yeah [Music] actually it kind of makes me think of um we can't be friends but I like to like the Ariana Grande song mixed with this could be such a good mashup of songs somebody do [Music] that so I said it was like an underwater thing I mean obviously there's a deluge here but actually it's giving me stranger things Vibes uh if you watch that show that kind of the other place uh that's how it makes me feel I like how the sense of panning left to right I like the raising of the cord here and the very gentle introductions of newent sounds and things happening within the song and then also his vocal here is metop piano you know kind of delicately uh moving through this section nice [Music] beond [Applause] [Music] the actually it's almost like when I was talking earlier about the cord movements of the song and how they hang between the two before going down to that third my ear is expecting it to resolve to that third chord so much sooner than it [Music] does nice cor response the P left to write stuff so intense I really like this uo okay nice warm since the sound of rain wow oh the video was shot on an iPhone Pro 16 wow oh it was an emergency vehicle what does that represent I'm notoriously bad at working out music videos wait let me just read the lyrics dancing in the flame catchy that hook is catchy it's already in my head traffic dies while we're racing home melted lights cover the open road I hope we make it because I've been chasing another Odyssey I can't wait to see your face crash when we're switching lanes my love's beyond the pain but if I miss the break we're dancing in the flames it's Indescribable oh well there we go there's the car reference visually on screen and then that makes sense in terms of that interpretation uh having the car there but so it almost feels like a Race Against Time and how I was talking about that tension being built in the music I feel like that's reflected in the lyrics As the verse goes on and perhaps actually I thought it was a love song but actually perhaps this whole kind of Crash when we're switching lanes maybe is showcasing some tension within the relationship I'm looking at a site online that's saying that their interpretation of this is your desire to see your own course regardless of the chaos swirling around um I'll leave a link to that article in the in the description box down below so you can read it if you'd like to this whole thing is sort of blurring everything between what's real and um what can be controlled and what can't be controlled and maybe the metaphor of driving in a car is reflecting that because when you drive a car obviously you have control over your own surroundings where you're sat what you're doing but you can't control everything racing around you you know that's up to other people so you can only do what you can do in the car at the time with what you can see but who knows what lies ahead and then it's reflecting that into a relationship situation oh I need to think about this one a little bit let me know what you have kind of uh garnered from watching the video and from thinking about the lyrics and the music you know how that matches that as well in the comments box down below and as I say the full version of this video including the music video in its full entirety and my full com commentary will be available over on patreon I'll leave a link for that in the pinned comment and the description box and I'd love to hear your thoughts on this song in general and what you're expecting from the weekend and his next record as well so do let me know and I look forward to seeing you on another video very very soon have a great rest of your day love you bye [Music]
