rounds had a few celebratory drinks okay so yeah so okay well I I made my rounds for you and me and and you made a couple laps is what you're saying did did a you know I did it what did they say which crossed that they keep listening yeah that's right well look we got a lot of fun on the show today and as you guys come to the stadium for football man we appreciate you making us part of your day today starts a new era in tuscalo and I know like for you played for Nick Sabin won a championship with Nick SA jewelry with Nick Sabin learned a lot in life from Nick Sabin but he retired he's on ESPN he's a media guy now and kayin deor takes over yep yep uh you know we've talked about this in the past I uh you know when when coach sain retired I think everybody thought uh Dan Lanning was going to be the guy uh you know put put our trust in Greg burn he did one heck of a job bringing Nate oats in and uh I think he's he's done the same here with uh kayin deor I think kayin dor after him coming in I think the big question mark was is he going to be able to recruit down here I think he's already proven that and some uh I think he's the best possible replacement from what I've seen uh for Coach Savin and I think the system he brings in with the talent he's going to be able to recruit here is going to be really dangerous and I think uh you know he's built a lot of momentum in the off season and I don't think it's going to be long before you know we're really talking top seed in the playoff and I know that's a bold statement but uh you know I I I've spent some time with Coach dor Kane wck I just feel like that's kind of the perfect ingredients for a championship team yeah no I'm with you man like I I I think the expectations here at Alabama have not changed man it's a championship this has always been a championship or bust program and that's where it is that's why they win and got a guy that was in the championship last year and a guy that took his team uh and won a a champ a league championship and I mean look Washington was a talented team there's no doubt about it they they had the talent to be playoff worthy uh but I I don't think they had the the same type of talent that Michigan had Alabama had uh I think they had a lot of opportunities where uh they didn't execute against Michigan uh I think the game plan was good I think um you know he he further proved uh why his record is what it is is and uh he did all he could do with Washington I think he comes to Alabama with a lot more resources um I've seen it firsthand alab there's there's very few teams in the country that provide their players with the resources that Alabama does and their coaching staff and I just think he's going to do a heck of a job guys I want to tell you this right now you ever had one of those before no I haven't you haven't lived okay uh all right Jaylen milro running the show I feel like I'm super confident in him as quarterback right now uh well you know to have to have a second year to start have an entire off season and a prior year to kind of establish yourself as the leader to me goes a really long way um you know especially in in the in the type of environment we have right now coach sa leaving uh the transfer portal is just crazy uh I got a new coach coming in to have that established leader and uh in Jaylen milroad to stick around uh you know be kind of a Guiding Light for the younger guys and the guys who aren't quite as established yet uh plays a huge role not only in keeping guys here but keeping the direction of the team uh you know well going in the right direction for the next season so uh I'm really excited I'm I'm glad we have a you know no disrespect to to Western Kentucky but I'm glad we have that type of game we one this year just so our receivers our quarterbacks o line you know U our defense can all be on the same page and kind of learn for a couple games before we go up to Wisconsin is that rat poison I mean are you you trying to psych up Western Kentucky if they watch right now like I heard what Alabama's former quarterback said about us and we're coming in focused on these guys well I hope whatever I have to say doesn't matter in this game I hope that every time I say anything let tell you what if we're if we're talking close game at the end we're we're in for a long season oh yeah yeah well of course you know I say that South Florida last year I think everybody was a little nervous but uh you know again establish leadership and look what happens I'm G to tell you this man as we hang out at glet Anderson who by the way Ryan he's got videos out now where he's talking to the team at practice I'm wondering where where when are you going yeah they don't they don't need any advice from me but Moss rickwood game hey by the way Ryan and I were at the rickwood game so was milro and then a bunch of other events too this guy not only is the Alabama's quarterback but he's also been instrumental in going out there and helping the nil Calla well you know it's it's like we we talk Alabama for the purposes of nil just playing at Alabama uh the marketing platform you have the capab ilities that Alabama has to put you out there on a big stage uh gives you really a huge opportunity in terms of wreaking in nil deals and and we've talked about this before I mean nil deals to me shouldn't be uh you know guaranteed payments from the school or or to get a kid on campus I think you know you prove yourself on the field and and companies want to sponsor you or or pay you to represent them uh in the marketplace then you know that's one thing and and I think Alabama really stands out as a school that is uh capable of of bringing in Ni nil deals for for guys that that perform well on the field uh I mean you're always going to be in that playoff conversation you're going to be playing in prime time uh there's not a whole lot of schools that have the brand that Alabama has and uh I mean if you go out there and perform nil deals are going to happen yeah well I mean then you didn't have that opportunity at Alabama I know yeah we talk and I'm not trying to rub it in yeah yeah these guys can go J still he still owes me some roback stuff well see you got your roback right gear on I guess from you know we're part of cover Crimson Jake and I do a show called elephant in the room and it's oh yeah fits just right too you know and if and if you're a fat guy which I'm starting to get there uh you know it happens fast you get out of playing football every day and then you know that's what happens um Nick Sheridan and kayin dor bring leadership and stability to this offense and I think that that is something that Jaylen milro would love to have because and I'm not saying Tommy Reese didn't but you know he's a young guy he's coaching under Nick Sabin you know I don't know how that is your offensive coaches now are the guys with the stroke I mean they're their head coach D'Or former wide receiver and then Sheridan's one of those guys that's been with him for a while yeah I think it's it's very helpful for a quarterback to have the head coach right behind you in your ear uh you know watching every rep and talking through talking you through each play each mistake each success uh what you possibly could have done to you know to be more efficient back there uh you know at at Florida State I had uh Jimbo Fisher as the head coach and also basically the quarterback coach uh there and so we had him back there really getting on to the receivers you heard the conversations between the receiver him and the receivers him in the offensive line him and the running backs you knew exactly what he wanted all the time and uh you know that communication really helped you understand where you needed to go with the ball and what the receivers trying to do on every play as well as the offensive line and the running back so um I think jaylen's going to have a lot of help back there with uh kayin debor being back there supporting him every play it's exciting and and and I'll say this too um you know I I heard his comments about the our new offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan uh seems like they have a really strong bond and uh to have a coach like that behind you in your corner that believes in you and trust you and there's no doubt who the starter is uh you know really kind of helps you go out there and uh and and play with with a lot of trust and and just play and believe in yourself and so I think that's that's huge for him not not that you know he's fighting for a starting job this year or anything like that but just to know your coaches have your back really goes long way especially in terms of quarterback play yeah really I mean and that's that's a big part of it and you keep hearing those guys talk about that too you know and and and the other thing is that I think that milro has the skill set to really do well I'm hearing that he's maybe shortened up his delivery a little bit on the mid and short range balls I feel like he's really close to being I mean a true Heisman Contender man I mean the Deep Ball's amazing his running ability his leadership he's just got this ability to win games and and with these offensive-minded coaches who knows what it could look like this year for him yeah I mean he's got such a high ceiling you can't coach the athleticism he's he's the most athletic quarterback probably that's that's been in Alabama been at Alabama in my lifetime that I can think of right uh you know and he's got the ability to make all the throws made some unbelievable deep ball throws last year um you know and and made a lot of plays extended plays in the pocket got the ball off uh found open guys through extending those plays um if he can just clean it up a little bit he's going to be just an Elite Talent across the entire country there's not going to be many guys you can look at and say well he's he's just better than Jaylen milro I just I I got a lot of belief in him after going back and watching that Texas game last year you know I mean that's his his first start uh in a big atmosphere like that made some mistakes that I think uh season guys could make just you know some some tough reads and and he got got through that had the coaches behind him after that and uh and really started showing us what he could do yeah that's exciting man I mean you know what's exciting being in Tuscaloosa for a game day knowing that we've got football man I mean we've got literally we've got football back with the buzz going on with this new coaching staff these guys and kayin dor you got to give him a ton of credit could not have done a better job every all the the lanking man all the naysayers oh he can't recruit he's gonna be you know Brian harson Jr he's gonna do this he's gonna do that things are going to happen you know some of the old coaches tried to take some of the players with them when they left and then the guys like milrose stepped up and that's not even the word I wanted to use but for this show I'm going to say they he stepped up saved the continuity with this with this program and this team and I think these guys are ready to go out there and contend for a championship yeah I mean well look Jaylen milro he you know he he made his home at Alabama last year I feel like um you know you're not going to come in and replace Jaylen milro he he's he was a heck of a player he proved why he he should have been the starter last year um but him him sticking it out and uh and helping to recruit keeping this Core group together um I think if you're an Alabama fan you you absolutely have to pull hope for the best for him and really pull for him about as hard as you know it's obviously disappointing but uh you know more so I think this game is about getting the timing down got a lot of new faces especially on offense I want to see what Ryan Williams looks like tomorrow uh I mean tonight and uh I I I've been here hearing a lot of good things about him in practice and these scrimmages uh I think he's a stud and he's gonna make it work out I just uh I'm really looking forward to seeing him play tomorrow that's me too man I've heard the same thing uh Elmo so of you everybody's talking about Ryan Williams yeah that's right and I'm glad that uh the national championship winning quarterback has a lot of faith in us covering that 30 31 points Jake I think we're going to cover but let's talk about what I'm really here for what is a hill topper and what's there to do in Bowling Green have you ever been I I've been through there man I've never hung out there before yeah I wouldn't know anything about either uh you know you know their mascot we've Kentucky wait who Tyler Childers that makes sense that makes sense he's got that Kentucky voice yeah yeah he's from the hills there you guys remember the Nappy Roots yes I do they were great they they they came from Western Kentucky you don't know them J no y are far more cultured than I am we are we are man uh and then uh I was looking at one other person that John Carpenter the film director he you know he directed Halloween and all those movies is a big horror movie guy okay yeah yeah he went to school at Western Kentucky and also uh they're in Bowling Green um they have the National Corvette Museum so that's something bad songs and scary movies pretty much and and it may be a nightmare tonight for them I don't know we all hope so yeah we all hope so yeah that's what we're trying to figure out you know kind of what this match Up's going to look like for Alabama with this new coaching staff and you know as we we have you on here with us uh big sexy Elmo uh what do you expect in Tuscaloosa on this game day well obviously a lot of excitement in the air um the the new era begins coach dor we've talked and talked and talked and Mick um and and Jake too all during the offseason and you know and the talking's over the haze in the barn it's time to play football finally uh soldout crowd there at Bryant Denny a night game always L that ESPN and of course Crimson Tide Sports Network um I expect Alabama to come out and and and play well and we're going to have our struggles uh we've talked about the second der Mick um do you know don't be surprised if they get burned early especially the young guys um and once again this is not a bad football team that we're playing of course you're not in the league uh of Alabama I'm not saying that but it may be a little bit closer to what you think but uh I don't know I'm thinking like a um uh a 40 48 to 13 4817 type of game I guess it'll wait our picks to the end but I I'm in that same neighborhood I mean what I I would be dis pointed if Alabama's offense doesn't run through these guys yeah no I am too I I want to see some uh some creativity but at the same time I think this is kind of similar to a middle Tennessee game last year I think we're we're g to come out I think we're going to look impressive uh but I don't think we're going to see the true Alabama until we see Wisconsin Georgia uh you know I I don't think these receivers they they've got the transfer quarterback coming in for West Kentucky I I just don't see them testing us uh I don't think they've got the athletes outside to really do that just yet um so I think we look good I think we we kind of play through it like we did Middle Tennessee last year and uh you know Glide in next week so I me it it's TJ Finley's third time against Alabama yeah without LSU's receivers right exactly you exactly this guy's I think he's been playing since Bear Bryant I think Bri that's a four years four schools it's crazy actually I don't know the co rules I think this may be like his fifth or sixth year yeah right it it's pretty cool though that the guys's like got the experience all those different campuses I mean you at this point you you got to figure he's comfortable walking into a room the people he doesn't know and just hey guys I'm your new quarterback up what's up hey I know you I know you played against you two years ago yeah yeah what like Jake let me ask you this man what's it like when you kind of go into a new environment like that you transferred from Florida State to Alabama I know that you didn't just go straight into starting I mean you did spend a year um you know as a backup and then took over a starter but how's that experience like you know there there's uh obviously that transition um there's a lot of change there and you're walking into a locker room with with a bunch of different guys and as the quarterback you're L to as a leader um I look I was never a Rah ra guy I I definitely wasn't going to walk in day one and start making speeches about you know how we should approach the next year and all that and uh you know the when I got here the the kick six had just happened that was on in the locker room every day it was in the the weight room every day and I couldn't speak to to that loss or anything like that my my main goal is to get in there and uh and try to just share by that I was was working as hard as I possibly could and being there as much as I possibly could um you know didn't work out year one but uh I think I think everybody kind of saw how much I was working going into year two and and getting ready for that position that um you know we we we're finally able to get on that same page my last year here and uh but I I just think it's it's trying to conform to the to to the standard that coach sa set and uh you know just try be a leader by example and eventually take over that leadership role that's a great Point man uh while you were saying that I was thinking about the time I was at glet but no I wasn't walking into the room just shooting finger pistols at people yeah no no I I I was thinking about when when I was in school at Alabama we're cetes right now for the show they used to have this thing on Fridays where if you got here at noon on a Friday it was 10 10cent beer for an hour then it went to 25 cent beer the next hour then it went to like like 50 Cent beer and then it went to a dollar beer like all Friday like it was the Staggering beer so I was talking to Jeff the owner about it he was like yeah beers are a lot more expensive now than it used to be but do you do you have any uh both of you guys any any experiences here at galletes I know we kind of talked about it a little bit I I've got a ton there used to be this trough right where we're sitting like right on the other side of that wall which was like the guy's bathroom like Wrigley Field style trough and you would just get in there and like you'd pee in the trough and I I asked him he Saidi should have sold the trough because so many people ask about the trough he said I just threw it away out there times have changed a bathroom here when I walked in I couldn't believe it yeah it's like you walked in and you're like expecting to be like you know worrying about stage fight had de in the Ural between the urals is unbelievable you don't want to be the guy to slow things down you ever been here you ever been here Brett I have but I have I haven't been able I I can't remember the times that I have been there uh it's a great time I do remember I always had a good time I mean always had a good time uh but yeah it's a great place I was talking to somebody before the show and she was telling me that there was a time when back in the day where she went to the bathroom in the trough is great to see you and since we've talked last on here Alabama has a new head coach a new coaching staff but it hasn't slowed them down in recruiting number two according to your service yeah yeah great to be back with you Mick um happy football season uh it's kind of crazy that we're uh we're here it just seems like uh seems like yesterday when Nick Sav announced his retirement and I was I think you know that day I was sitting uh I'd gone into my bedroom and somebody text me um about know there was a big announcement happening um you know that day and you know of course you start reaching out to different people asking you know different questions and everybody's like yeah no standard stuff uh you know first day of school meeting with the Freshman you know full team meeting blah blah blah and then all of a sudden um your world kind of flips upside down and you're because we we had just gone through the entire football season You' gone through uh Signing Day transfer portal all that kind of stuff and you're just like all right finally a little bit of a break there not g be too much going on and then that happens and then you're just you know you're kind of just going nonstop for the next several months because you had you know coaching changes transfer portal reopen then you know spring practice all these different visitors coming in you know summer camp summer visits uh it was just so much that was going on uh just non-stop and when we finally got to August practice starts but it it sort of slowed down uh you know a little bit because it was just pandemonium for a while it was kind of crazy but once you kind of got into the season you're like okay we know what's going on it's uh football time uh time to go to work so uh it's been pretty fun but yeah Bama currently sitting with the number two recruiting class in the country according to on three Sports we've had you know so much coverage at bamaonline.com for the last several months recruiting front um and people didn't know what to expect people did not know what to expect with this new coaching staff you know different guys from all over the country a lot of coaches that you know people just weren't familiar with including coach kayin D'Or um coming from Washington you know how was he and being a South Dakota native being on the well you know basically on the West Coast uh his uh you know majority of his career know in the midwest what was he going to be able to do in Tuscaloosa well you know it's not necessarily about where you've been it's more about who you are and Coach kayin dor is one of the most genuine um personable coaches that you'll ever find and that's coming from so many different people whether it's uh you know people who coached for him people who played for him um people who you I talked to somebody uh this summer who lived in uh lives in California and their uh their neighbor went to the same high school as uh as coach dor and when the the announcement was made they were talking about it the guy was just you Blown Away talked about how great of a person he is H how Alabama just got you know an unbelievable um you know coach and coach in person and Coach dor and then you kind of hear that from families of recruits you know Dawson Merritt who's a uh one of Alabama's top commitments uh out of uh out of Overland Park in Kansas uh top 100 guy I talked to his father who coaches for the Kansas City Chiefs and he told me we came down to Tuscaloosa uh on our first visit and we went and met with Coach dbor um on the balcony right out over that overlooks the practice field he said we talked talked to him for over an hour and a half and nobody else even knew we were there we were just having a normal conversation 10% of it was about football everything was just personal you know you guys like to do where you're from uh getting to know you and we heard that from so many different people you know throughout the summer so recruiting he's got down um but what everybody wants to know obviously is what is he going to be able to do this football season on the field when he's you know in Death Valley and when he's in Norman Oklahoma um you know when he's playing up against Georgia in tuscal on September the 28th how is Alabama gonna perform on the field because he's going to be judged and that coaching staff's gonna be judged by what they do this season more so than what they've done over the course of the last eight months and right right everything they've done over the last eight months it's been as good as you could possibly imagine um you had your early hiccups with the transfer portal which was expected that was going to happen when Nick said retired but they were able to stop that bleeding they were able to bring in some reinforcements and now it's time to uh you know show everybody what you can do let me ask you this um you you lose two guys to Auburn Coleman and Smith right and then you lose one guy that flips a linebacker to Tennessee so but Alabama's still the number two recruiting class how are they going to make that up and is is uh what is it Ty Jackson the linebacker out of Florida is he is he a guy that we can expect to see coming to Alabama where are the end roads to finish this recruiting class and also try to keep these guys from leaving to get to that at least to the Finish Line at number two or number one yeah so I think uh you know on the defensive line front uh you know they definitely want to add at least one more player um they've got Justice Terry festar defensive lineman out of Georgia that's going to be coming back uh for the Georgia game uh next month so that's going to be a guy that we're going to be watching Pretty closely and there's some other guys that are out there that Alabama's evaluating uh during their senior season we've seen some new offers that have gotten extended but you know it's still one of those situations where you might you may extend offers right now but you're still kind of in that evaluation mode you're you want to see them a little bit more as seniors you want to get these guys on campus uh meet with the coaching staff we we've seen that throughout the last you know you know several years even with the previous staff and Coach Sav you know they would offer players as seniors uh get them on campus meet with them trying to decide you know are these guys that we want to continue to pursue really push for bring them back for an official visit so even though you might see an offer that gets extended out there uh to a senior is like you know unless they're coming to campus and meeting with the coaching staff and everything looks good kind of afterwards you really don't uh I wouldn't really put much stock in it just yet you're just kind of waiting and seeing but um yeah I definitely think that Alabama's evaluating a lot of guys safety position is going to be kind of interesting because um they don't have any safety commitments after Derek Smith flipped uh to Auburn now you know I think they would certainly love to get Derek Smith back on board but it seems like he may want to play wide receiver uh in college rather rather than safety so and that's what Auburn recruited him to play now in my opinion Derrik Smith is one of the best overall athletes in the country he could play any position I think Auburn or Alabama would be open to uh letting him play just about any position but he was recruited specifically by the Crimson Tide to play that safety role so who else is out there there's not a lot of options there's not a lot of guys that Alabama has really gone after U there's a kid that's gonna be visiting Alabama this weekend and tavius Richardson who is a h commitment to South Florida didn't go to really any camps during the summer has never been to Alabama before but he is on Alabama's radar he's 6'2 175 pounds ran a 1068 in the 100 meters so this is a guy that uh you know has some great film uh obviously has some great speed I think Alabama would like to meet with them in person sit down with them talk to them get to know him a little bit determine that this is Guy they're really going to push for so since we haven't really seen a ton of offers that kind of indicates that you know it's not necessarily A you know major major need right now but they still would like to get somebody so you know I think they would at least like like to get one safety and uh kind of see where things are at it's a long season we we talk about this all the time at at bamaonline.com even though Alabama has the number two recruiting class they had an unbelievable summer we're still kind of at the halfway point um right even though we still got three even though we only have three months left there's a long football season ahead and so many things can change coaching changes you know players go to different games and you know have a different opinion there's so many kids that are watching Alabama this season not just guys that are um you know uncommitted but you have guys who are committed elsewhere you even have your own commitments uh that want to see what Alabama what the product's going to look like on the field this season on the offensive and defensive side of the ball are they going to continue to have the same they had with Nick Sabin and um you know if they the beard Beard's looking you my wife wasn't a big fan at the start of it but I you know I felt like you know wanted to bring a little different look and uh I figured it'll work out a little bit that's right Tom give us your take on the transition from Sabin to dbor uh pretty seamless man I mean this is is who thought it would be like this and and certainly you know obviously when it all went down in January kids were leaving and and so on and it was the sky was falling and the next thing you know you get a big guy like Kaden croor back and and uh the board's done a wonderful job his staff has done a great job on a recruiting Trail they're right there where they have been in the years past uh with Nick sa as well so um I do find it kind of interesting to see that the this is a kind of different kind of guy Jay could speak to this a little bit more about the the the way coach dor is with the players I was stunned that Monday to hear the coordinators speaking I mean you know under Nick Sav the coordinators were in the witness protection program you didn't even know they existed you know until until the bull season came and and so we we've seen that difference a little bit and um so we we'll see whether or not you know dor feels like he's more of a players coach um but but we'll see you know uh when it all comes when a rubber meets the RO we'll see how this team performs and uh you know we're all the looking forward to that yeah I mean and that was probably a good idea Tom when uh Lane kein was offensive coordinator but these guys get to talk a lot right and and which is Def definitely different um because they get together uh we've heard from Kane wck and Nick Sheridan a ton of times this well you know I I I gotta say I played for uh Jimbo and I played for Coach Sabin and I can't really speak to what it's like to play for a player's coach well you know the funny thing is Jake my my uh my oldest son was on sabin's first staff as a student assistant and this is 2007 right and he said to me you know couple of weeks into the season he said you guys in the media what you think Nick Sabin is it's totally different out here the reason the kids love him and everything else he's funny he's engaged he knows people's names he you know he he's he's he's totally into it and and I think that went on for years and years you know for the 17 years he was there there's a reason why so many EX players love that guy so much so I think and we're seeing his personality now that vbo commercial that he did is absolutely hilarious but we're seeing the kind of guy Nick Sabin really was so maybe you know the facade was what he showed us I'm sure he was very very tough but I think that there's a reason why the players loved him so much uh what I mean my my definition of a player's coach is really I guess you know it seems like now in in the Alabama program under coach dor uh I guess there's some two-way communication there on the field especially when things get intense I know when things went South you know at any point in time during an Alabama game during my tenure there uh there wasn't a whole lot of two-way communication there's no doubt there's no doubt coach s uh you know I mean everybody loves coach sa he's the best that that's ever done it and uh I guess my my point there and and jokingly it was the same with Jimbo too but uh just you know you knew when to keep your mouth shut when uh coach sa was talking and uh and again there wasn't there wasn't a whole lot of conversation between the lines it was uh you know you knew your job you did your job and you said yes sir yeah well I mean ask ask Lane kein about that right I mean it was the famous L you know when they asked him about the discussion on the sideline he said that wasn't a discussion that was an ass chewing so I guess that's all you need to know yeah so that that frames my players coach versus a non-players coach uh you know barrier right there what are you expecting to see in this game I think they're gonna line up and I think you're G to see a team that's going to continue to play very physical ball um maybe make an effort to run the ball even more than it had done in the past that's the strength of this team it feels like the offensive line and the running backs are the strength here of this team of course Jayla milro is a top five candidate for the Heisman Trophy whether that's fair or not um you know but I I do believe that what we're going to see is very vanilla I mean I don't think they're gonna empty the clip you know against Western Kentucky we we'll see how that goes um you know South Florida you might see a little bit more there um but they're not going to want to show Wisconsin and Georgia and the rest of the schedule too too much so you know the thing I'm looking for personally is the communication between the coaches they're getting the plays in there's not pre- snap penalty there's no delay of game because they can't get a play in or whatever uh that the guys are crisp in and out in terms of running the plays and and that they play clean football I think that's what we're going to see uh because they should be dominated at at just about every position across the uh you know across the line and then you want to see the defense develop you want to see that defensive backfield you know start to gel and come together um you know that's the group that probably needs that has the most question marks if you will and and so you got that rotation up front in the front seven and and see who's the playmaker I think that's well put it's exciting I mean in a weird way and and I love Nick Sabin I think we all did not only did we love him but we appreciated all the success that Alabama had because of him but it is exciting to kind of see you know someone else that's here that brings in this pedigree like D'Or and is fired up about doing this job yeah there's no doubt about it um you know and I don't think they could have gotten a better guy I mean when you thought about the other guys that were you know that were in the mix and and then a lot of people's names were kicking around you you start looking at him and you say well theor beat that guy a couple of times and Dan Lanning and theor what about sarkeesian no the bo beat that guy a couple of times he was five and0 against though you know sarkeesian and Dan Landing I mean so you know that all this guy does his win um it seems like he does not have a a big ego all coaches have egos I mean you know we all had had a you know had a huge ego as a coach and have a huge ego as a as a broadcaster we we all have that but you know it it's going to be very very interesting to see how this transition goes um and and how they respond on the field and it is exciting I mean it is really exciting I mean you can't name a lot of times where you've seen it go from a legend to the next guy and it just keeps on rolling but man if there's ever a scenario where you could see it kind of keep on rolling this is it and he is the security of the 12 team playoff so even if it is a you know a 10- two season which is where I have them at I I think it's a brutal schedule I think 9 and three they could be a very good football team and be 9 and three I don't think they make the playoff at that but 10 and two makes the playoff and and who knows we'll see how it goes but the road schedule is really really difficult and um so I think it was it was time I think coach sain had the perfect sense of timing and he exits stage left and and this is the right guy to take over Tom always great to hear from you quickly let's talk about what the big dogs got going on up in north Alabama well of course we already Alabama football affiliate up here so Texas A&M is a three-point favorite against Notre Dame 48 and a half is the over under Lance I'm Gonna Let You Go first Lance Taylor from the next round and Lance's lock.com Mick looking at this game obviously it's a pivotal game Notre Dame wins this game I saw this morning 68% chance they get to the college football playoff when you look at this schedule they're probably seven and0 when they host Florida state that game doesn't look as difficult obviously after the loss in Dublin to Georgia Tech um on the other side you know I look at A&M I was never a Jimbo Fisher guy you know that I was always anti Fisher I never thought it was a great fit never thought he was a great coach I think Mike kco can become a great coach uh former defensive coordinator what are we laughing at what I do they played for Jimbo he won a championship with Jima just throwing that out there I you just keep doing what you're doing don't went to Florida State because of his coaching paral I would say this Jake decision maker I saw you on the sideline of that 2013 National Championship jamus Winston was a generational guy like if I listed my top 10 college quarterbacks of all time he would be on that list and obviously you guys had a lot of skill I I probably so let me pull that team was that was one of the most talented teams ever I mean I want to say my gosh like 100% of that starting Squad went to the NFL yeah I think yeah so I should pull it back I think Jimbo Fischer is kind of a be coach his offense was was awful awful to watch in in in College Station it just it didn't work I mean now so who you got so I like um I like Texas A&M and I'll bring up the the fact Mike Koko I think he is a fantastic coach you look at what he did at Duke last year they were 4 and0 Riley Leonard was his quarterback they should have gone to 5-0 they blew a big fourth down against Notre Dame late not Dame scores instead of Riley Leonard in the victory formation he turns his ankle the season falls apart now you've got and by the way in that game Mike elko's defense held Notre Dame to two of 15 on third down now you've got Mike ELO with real athletes in that Kyle Field setting where inh helmet communication is going to be a big deal early on and he's going against a former quarterback that he knows all the in ins and outs of and I think Conor Wegman is one of these unknown right now that is going to really really surprise in the SEC through three games last year before he broke his foot he led the FBS and QB so I think A&M is better than advertised I think they're gonna have a special season and if they win this game they could be favored in their next 10 games all right Jake I'm actually pretty much on the same page you know I love uh I love Riley Leonard um I hate to say this but Fair Hope guy you know I to me Notre Dame's gonna Notre Dame I I don't believe in Notre Dame never have I haven't seen them show up I can't remember last time I saw Notre Dame show up for game and I I love uh I love Conor Wegman uh that line at three it's a it's a little fishy um so I'm I'm definitely going with A&M all right Jake stay right there in the big box USC versus LSU it's in Vegas you know I love Sin City okay uh and I know you do do you do too LT negative4 and a half uh for the tig 62 and a half is the over under these teams mirror each other so much in this regard you've got what is viewed as Elite coaches coming into year three and both Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly and they virtually done the same thing Brian Kelly plays for a conference Championship in year one Lincoln Riley FL for a conference Championship in year one they both have they've produced Heisman winning quarterbacks over the last couple of years but they don't have a lot to show from it um I do think Lincoln Riley is more on the hot seat both guys have gotten new defensive coordinators coming in Blake Baker for um LSU out of Missouri and D Lynn coming in from UCLA so the defenses are going to be improved I trust Miller Moss at quarterback I never thought I thought Maliki Nelson would end up being the guy he transfers to Boise Miller Moss was great in the Holiday Bowl uh this is just a weird number I have no idea when it was sitting at six a week and a half ago I thought it would tick up I thought I was going to get a well he just kind of bowed out all right Jake I'm gonna throw you at plus seven plus four and a half think there's more pressure on LSU I know nme's got some experience there um LSU they've lost four straight season openers I'm not going to say it's five here I think this is extremely tight game but I do like USC plus four and a half all right Jake uh you know to me it like you said these teams mirror each other very weak on defense at least in the last year both teams uh linkoln Riley I feel much better with him running that offense with an unknown quarterback uh LSU I felt like Jaden Daniels made them last year um you know I'd like to see a few more games but week one I got to trust Lincoln Riley more I just don't I don't trust LSU without Jaden Daniels all right and the final thing uh Alabama Western Kentucky 31 and a half is the over under um no the over under is 59 and a half 31 and a half is Bama favorite Lance so TJ Finley it's hard to believe this guy has been from LSU to Auburn to Texas State now Western Kentucky but you look at his two starts against Alabama with LSU and Auburn 31 of 54 281 yards three touchdowns only one pick was really good at Texas State I think this a perfect spot for Alabama based on this will they cover the 31 and a half to 32 I'm not sure the they've won their previous three matchups with Western Kentucky by an average of 32 points Alabama's obviously going to win this game I just wonder how vanilla they are because the games you look at September Western Kentucky gets more difficult with South Florida more difficult on the road at Wisconsin and then obviously you got a beast in Georgia coming in so I would assume that Nick Sheridan and kayin abor are gonna be somewhat vanilla here I think we're gonna see a lot of Ty Simpson um I think the numberb is going to be right around what it is um I would lean Alabama in this spot I just think they're so talented but I do love the fact that TJ Finley will at least test what is being viewed as a really inexperience secondary so I think it's it's it's a good first opponent for Alabama all right Jake you hold your pick for next segment Lance tell us about Lance's lock as we uh head the break yeah so we're transparent you know that Mick we uh split lot of work put in on Mick but how's it been so far has it been fun it's we I pretty laidback I'm enjoying it yeah it's gone by fast so I mean like it's it's been a first off when I walked back into gettes the memory started flowing I've never done a show in glet before you know I've snuck out the back a few times here I've I've witnessed some fights here I I've been here and gotten you know basically where they've shut it down and turned the lights on here I've had a lot of beers in this place including the time when they used to have the uh 10 cent you know Friday 10- Cent beer and then it would go to 25 and then 30 everybody here has been great Jeff's been awesome and and it this is It's been memory memory lane for me okay just to just to throw that out there but let's let's talk let's I know and you're looking at me like it was was n that long ago okay I didn't know this place was here when you it was not that long ago Clint lamb what are you looking for out of the tide uh obviously you want to come out strong as strong as possible under kayin dor first game uh you know there's some question marks both sides of the football mostly defense though going against that offense you want to see guys be competitive you want to see him be aggressive you want to see him have fun uh and so you know I'm looking for you know some of those true freshmen who are maybe playing Ryan Williams on offense zavan Brown on defense I wouldn't say this is the type of moment that would be too big for them or anything but just how do they look you know it being their first uh Collegiate football game do they look like they're ready to be long-term contributors I think they're probably both going to end up playing pretty solid games both have some interesting matchups uh you know especially Ryan Williams given where he lines up and what they ask him to do that could be limited in his first ever game and something that I heard someone say and it was interesting I hadn't really thought about it but you don't see too many true freshman in their first ever game uh have a lot of success and so you know how early does Alabama get Ron Williams involved uh how early is he on the field even and then you know can he carry some of that momentum into making some game-changing plays over the course of this game which can help him you know in weeks two three and Beyond uh I want to see you know Personnel packages on defense and how they attack Western kuy's offense because they're you know that no one's really to do quite what Wester Kentucky does offensively but you know the way that they'll attack you as far as spreading you out sideline to sideline and then trying to stretch you vertically uh you know you could see some of that in some of these other games so how does Alabama combat some of that as far as try them trying to utilize spacing and uh you know what do we see from you know guys like LT Overton and Jihad Campbell now playing more of a versatile role uh a lot of lot of question marks uh you know in the secondary but I think it's going to be a fun defense to watch and I certainly think it's going to be a fun offense to watch yeah I mean the key the main guy I'm wanting to watch is Ryan Williams um I want to see him get in there I've heard so many good things and not only is he a freshman but a 17-year-old freshman it's kind of insane you think about uh what he's been looking like in practice and and knowing that he's 17 years old and should be a senior in high school um really excited I think uh Jeremy Bernard is is probably he he's flying under the radar as far as how much of an impact he's going to have on Ryan Williams in my opinion guy that's played uh for kayin dor uh from Washington I think he's going to be a huge component and uh leading Ryan Williams in the right direction teaching him that offense and getting him in the right place um you know we had a lot of or a couple older guys my senior year who who took on that role at receiver and really helped out those younger guys I think Jeremy Bern is going to be that guy to to really help push him along and then I want to see what the secondary looks like what you know what personnel we're using what kind of rotation we're looking at um I mainly want to just I hope we don't have many bus guys are in the right spot uh I'm I'm not too concerned about you know getting out athletic a athleticism or what you know I don't think they're going to have the athletes we have but um just hope guys are in the right spot and doing what they're supposed to do what do you think the biggest gains for Alabama are going to be between you know they always say you know from week one to week two but like from going to practice to game one yeah I think just you know finally being able to hit somebody else you know I'm sure Jake can speak to this you know maybe not playing the quarterback position but I'm sure you know he was ready to go against somebody uh but you know it's kind of the whole thing was look for the small number and run them over God for that hey the small numbers nowadays I mean I mean you might try to hit you know Jem Otis at this point wearing number 10 um but you know it it is interesting to see like because there were so many changes whether it be from a Personnel perspective or a coaching perspective you know the philosophy of the program there's some similarities but there's a lot of differences and just seeing how quickly guys adapt to that you know you're talking about Ryan Williams and just the fact that he kind of it I'm not saying I mean obviously under nick sabbin uh I don't think you know guys like Kobe prenis or Kendrick law were creating any sort of bad habits but now that Ron Williams I mean he's only going to have been coached up to this point by Jamarcus Shepard one of the best wide receiver coaches in college football you talk about Jeremy Bernard who has now played for Shepard for a while he understands what it takes to be successful in his system the expectations and all those things um you know I I do agree with Bernard being a perfect uh kind of uh guy for Ron Williams to emulate and then those I'm sure those other guys are going to be involved in that too all the older guys will but I think it's a really good combination of players just guys who are familiar with Alabama you know a guy who's familiar with kayin dor and you got a high school kid that's just pretty much ready to be molded I mean only being 17 years old so I am excited to see how they use him and just how much they put on his plate if they don't put a ton on his plate in in game one I don't think anybody should be freaking out and saying you know we got carried away with the hype train or anything like that I wouldn't be shocked at that get his feet wet a little bit maybe see how he handles it but just make sure you're kind of not putting too much on him early because you want to be building his confidence in these first couple of weeks I think that's really important because a young kid like that he's going to he's going to battle some adversity I think he's got the right stuff mentally to overcome all of that but you just don't want to put him in situations where you know he can't be successful I think Nick sain always did a really good job of avoiding those types of situations with young players and I think Kaylin dor would do the same but uh just special talent man and I'm excited to see you know uh what Jaylen milro does how he looks in the system I had my questions as far as is you know how he would fit in kayin dbor system as you learn more about dor you realize you know this guy's kind of had a little bit of everything he's never had an athletic quarterback like Jaylen milro I understand he's had dual threat guys but he's got a whole new toy to play with as far as what he can do with his legs how much does he want to utilize that how much does he ask milro to do what does milro want to do as far as that's concerned I'll be curious to see how all that comes together uh but you know it's going to be a fun watch all right give me a quick uh score for the game and then Jake you do it and then we're done I'm upset because I went 4817 was kind of where my mind was at and then I realized it was a 31 and a half point line somehow I ended up on 31 points which means I have Western Kentucky uh we just did our picks video and and I wasn't happy about that at all but I said it 4817 sounded right to me I understand that Alabama not covering the spread I'm sure fans won't be happy with that I could see it reaching in the mid-50s high 50s if Ty Simpson comes in and it's kind of that 20177 approach where they're wanting him to operate the offense like he normally would get him a couple series with first team offense uh you know try to get him comfortable if they're doing that maybe they end up scoring a couple more touchdowns than they would have otherwise uh so I could see it easily being higher than 48 but I say 4817 all right Clint lamb cover crimson.and I do a show and then Clint's on there all the time plus cover do cover um and the reason being I think uh you know kayin dbor wants to come out see all of his guys play full speed I think he's going to be really aggressive uh really try to get these guys uh on the same page as quickly as possible you know um I I think one of the things people don't realize is I I really don't care how how talented you are if you haven't played together and you don't have that experience uh it takes time especially receivers and quarterbacks uh timing angles all that uh it's one thing in practice but it's a completely different ball game uh you know when the lights turn on and the quarterbacks are getting hit you're getting the ball out a lot quicker than you do in practice you got to anticipate a lot better and you got to make some game time adjustments so uh I think I think coach dor is going to want to see these guys uh at full speed and and I don't think he's going to be uh letting off the gas until he sees these guys you know make some some growth during that game it
