Rikers island jail is NOT THE place to BE !

Intro hey guys welcome to Connected 5492 I'm your host Nicholas Romano of the channel hope everybody's doing uh well today beautiful day here in uh Tempe Arizona actually it's a little hot man probably pushing like 92 93 today but uh very low humidity so it's not too too bad I just wanted to uh hop on and uh make today's video about uh my first couple uh visits to uh reicha Island when when I when I got in trouble with the uh Subway thing and got arrested I was in the holding cells all that stuff until you see the judge and then we didn't I really didn't know what was going on they said but you know they set bail I think it was like 2500 bucks or my family was to running around the court figuring out what to do and then before you know it that was it it was the end of the day I got transferred to Rikers and I got bailed out later that night so I was really only there the night but the the the second time around I violated like uh the probation and a judge I show up to court and my lawyer says he's he's probably going to give you offer you like a shock program or something to go away um I had a couple I had a dirty urine and that's how I violated the probation but um they the judge remanded me that day Court date and he set my court date for first he set the court date for like it was like 60 something days out it was like two months out for the uh the violation of probation hearing and then he said remanded and I didn't know what they meant and they came over that was it the the court officer threw me in cuffs and I was asking a lawyer what was going on he said he remanded you he said you're going to have to stay there until your next court date I was freaking out on the on the lawyer I was like are you kidding me so now I'm off to I'm off to What to expect Rikers and I kind of I know a little bit what to expect I mean I was only there overnight I I I I barely I got processed and I don't even think I got moved yet to like a housing unit and I already got bailed out so the the first time really wasn't nothing but I seen it was going to be a real nightmare that that place and this was going back in the early 90s I was there in 95 and the second time was was 96 now the second time when he remands me and and I'm there for 65 days man it's it's definitely a nightmare these people tell you or you hear these guys talk about jail being okay or oh you just make the best of it and this this and that that's all nonsense man it's horrible uh you I you seen guys get cut Gangs man you you first when you get there I got you get your classification they move you uh I was in c74 uh with the adolescence from 16 to 18 and they were wild everybody was like you're better off with adults but I I was only uh 16 at the time and they were just whing in there man I I you had Latin Kings Bloods Crips 5 perers the Muslims there was all kinds of different gangs in there man and people fighting over cigarettes I I had probably six seven different fights right away in the beginning kid wanted my sneakers another kid wanted wanted your shirt and that's it that you got to go in the bathroom and shoot a one-on-one usually a couple minutes before it got broken up you get a beaten or or or some of the fight you won couple kids I got the best of that were my size couple other Puerto Rican kids were a little bigger than me I caught a couple good shots and then it was broken up but once you kind of once they kind of see that you're at least going to fight for your stuff you know that then you're not a herb like some of these kids man I seen some of the these kids they asked this kid for a cigarette or for something I forgot what the kid the kid gave like a smart ass answer and the kid just told me to move aside and bro this kid's face exploded like a balloon I don't know if he hit him with something but this kid hit blasted this kid man exploded his face I I I seen this other kid get cut over a cigarette the kid ripped out his his the Blazer man and sliced his razor and sliced his kid's whole arm like all the way across so you know Reich is's Island man is not a place to be if there's any kids or younger guys watching these videos and stuff like that man jail you see a lot of these guys glorify jail and maybe if they get to the feds it's a little bit better or stuff like that I've never did any time like that the the longest I did was was that was just a couple months and reichers like that Moving um but it was terrible man that they moved me out to the uh I remember getting moved I was somewhere for a couple weeks and then they moved me out to uh to the sprungs it it they were like big open tents that were just open dorms you just had like a hundred beds just open and I remember the first day I walked in there there had to be a 30 on30 brawl the things flying in the the day room chairs they weren't like all nailed down and stuff I heard it's a lot different and the way it is now but there were chairs flying man the turtles come running in with all their their equipment Shields everybody's got to hit the ground and they come in just blasting tackling people those turtles will [ __ ] you up Open dorms boy and and and that's it man once something like that happens then every body's on their bunk or you got to stay you know locked down on the bunk but again it's open open dorms like somebody could just get off their bunk I watched this kid just walk over and just put a bar of soap in a sock and hit this kid and took his sneakers walked right away so that that uh that definitely isn't the place to be man I just wanted to uh hop on and make a video about that a lot of guys you know a lot of guys talk and say different stuff man but half of these guys ain't even ever been away to summer camp so I I just some of the stuff I laugh with with with what people uh come on and comment or like I said you get a lot of uh uh keyboard tough guys today I I guess I kind of opened myself up for that when I started making some of these videos but that's okay uh yeah man they they moved Leaving Rikers me out to that place in the sprungs and that was just like I said that was just [ __ ] awful and then I forgot where I got moved to I got moved to one more place and by the time I got back to court yeah I was definitely ready to uh take the program and and and get out of there get out of Rikers and then I went off to like a shock program it was like daytop uh Upstate and that was obviously way better than jail but you had all kinds of you know rules in in these places and it was just uh that was where my life started to spiral out of control a little bit right around that age but but in Reich is too man just the how filthy Rats and you you have rats they rats coming through the radiate in a Cell you got rats coming the one house I was in was like a Twan cell I forgot if it was four main or four upper or four lower what was was one of the places and that was before they moved me outside to the tents but man like I said there yeah rats this big coming through the radiator that would look like small [ __ ] dogs man [ __ ] dirty filthy I remember I was in there too I think it was the summer and he I got I started to get cool with with a couple people from playing basketball I was good at ball so I went out in the yard and played ball they were calling me Larry Bird and all of that [ __ ] they were like white boy can play so I I you know after a little while that I was there a couple weeks and I had a couple fights I I guess yeah you you you kind of start to adapt a little bit but man for all the guys out there and like I said maybe I I if there are some younger people here and there that are checking out Outro videos you don't want to be in jail man jail is not the place to be as simple as that and and and the back in those days and I know reichers is really just as bad now I have a lot of friends that that did time that people that you know recently got out people that are there still and and again it's just not the place to be man all that stuff that you hear people glorify yeah you make the best of it oh jail was fun you hear some of these guys say I had the best time in jail sound like an [ __ ] so that's just my uh thoughts on the uh on on the whole getting locked up uh scene man it's it's definitely not not fun at all and then I was in a little trouble when I moved down to Florida I I got locked up down there for a little bit and that was similar I was away for like two months I think was the longest I was way down there but uh I just wanted to hop on and
