of course he is of Dominican descent Ali is and uh he is the third-year manager of the Cardinals led him to a Central division championship in 2022 and we all know last year was a struggle this year the Cardinals have bounced back from that now they're still not exactly playoff eligible yet they're still ad just at 568 and 68 but we'll see what September holds as the Cardinals finish the month of going to get the chance and he has certainly struggled in this series he struck out three times yesterday uh and twice the day before so in eight at bats uh he's one for eight in this series over for his last six but Jordan's going to have to figure it out and he's going to be given the opportunity of course a lot of promise for Jordan Walker and he is going to be learning on the job here in the month of September talked about the Cardinals not playing well in August and again their only losing month of the season but the Yankees actually haven't been very good since the 1st of June might be uh surprising to hear this they have the best record in the American League but they are only one game over 500 since June 1st that shows how good a start they were off to this season and Mason wi up a run in this game and still nobody out in the second Anthony Rizzo is back from the injured list back from a broken forarm arm he is tough to bunt on and has made many plays at third base in his career they're playing for the bunt by Victor Scott he shows bunt takes it away and takes high ball one at third base Chisum took a step in then he broke back toward third with Rizzo rushing in from first base if you are sacrificing and I would guess that Victor would be doing that here the idea is to bun it to third that's what you have to do make the third baseman field it here comes Rizzo Scott bunts and it's to Rizzo who has a play at third out at third base that's a mistake by Victor Scot huge mistake that that is just not not knowing maybe the defense I think he was actually set up to bunt it the first twoo and you bunt that the third it's the basically you know simple understanding of what's going on defensively yeah he set that bad angle to bun at the first you bun at the third the third baseman has to get it and by him getting it that means there's no play at third base which is the whole goal of sacrificing when there's first and second nobody out always bunt the ball to third that's giving an out away top of the order now Mason wi who struck the ball hard grounding out to short the first time up there's a pickoff throw to Second and it goes past the second baseman Torres backed up by vulpe vulpe got there because Torres got a glove on the ball well you you saw that one coming didn't you with Rizo well Rizzo's done that so so many times you cannot even bump the ball between the mound or even close to the mound just to the first base side or he'll make the play at third three guys I've seen that do that a lot over the years Rizzo here's a swing and a miss on a pitch up Albert Pool was good at that play too because he would charge so much not that his arm was a plus but he was just daring and also maybe the best at doing it that I've ever seen Keith Hernandez Don migle was pretty good at it too two on and there goes Newar he broke early from second base and he's caught between second and third the throw goes to Chism and he's out and Scott is still over at first base two mistakes in the inning one with a bunt to the first baseman instead of the third base Side by Scott and a base running error there with nbar thinking he had a tell on on Cortez who took a look back there and said thank you very much now it's Mason wi the pitch to win a strike on the outside corner well you you you get the Tells and then you know the Tells work until they don't until the the pitcher realizes that somebody's got a tell on you and then you change whatever it is you're doing with your head movements your chin whatever it might be yeah Nar got caught there here's a swing and a high flyball foul out of play down the right field line well really what Newar is trying to do is he's trying to overcome the bunt that didn't work so what happened is you're basically doubling down and saying okay didn't get him to third base with less than two out with the bunt because it was uh to the wrong place so I'm going to make up for it by trying to get a tell and steal third and uh and it didn't work Scott takes his lead at first base and time taken by Mason win who's in the hole no balls two strikes not a bad time to send Victor Scott thei that's
