well I mean it's a you know a frustrating loss tonight um just cuz I I felt like um we're actually in a position that I I think we we're better than what we looked out there uh on the scoreboard um we left we left some points out there we had an opportunity there at the end on a fourth down to and the interception to get the ball back and and we make we we jump off sides and and give them the ball right back and then a big play right after that and so you know I I uh you know I'm not a big moral Victory guy I mean because I I I want us to have the understanding I want us to have the uh um the mindset that we belong on fields with teams like this that that we saw flashes tonight of what we can do and it really just comes down to uh consistent uh consistent football we we we we kind of take a couple steps forward then we'll take a step back and we take a step forward take two steps back and then you know uh cuz uh everything you know the one thing about them is they don't quit I mean I think that's uh from a positive side um you know I don't see them quitting ever um you know they won the score at the end still you know we're talking about onside kicks I mean we're our mindsets always to do that so um as a coach you just got to go watch the film you got to go um um kind of see the things that we fix and at the end of the day it's our job to prepare them better I think there's some coaching things that we learn tonight too uh to put our kids in better positions in some situations so a lot of learning for everybody but uh you kids are disappointed um they're frustrated in the locker room um they stayed together I don't see a team uh bickering with each other so the culture is there we just got to we got to clean some stuff up and it really I got challenged them I felt like we didn't have a consistent week of practice and that carries that carries over onto the field so um you know I think they're they're coachable they want to be coached and I think they'll bounce back and have a good week of practice this week coach can you talk about some of your defensive performances tonight uh Jaden Patrick had a really good game um on the back end uh some of your leading tackers Devon was all over the field along with Vincent and Ethan um kind of their leadership on the defensive side and how that translates um on your on your defense yeah the linebacker core I mean there was a lot of good play tonight those linebackers fly around um saw a lot of good plays jpat played really well got a block field goal there too um you know so Nel you know that's the one thing about on our defense I think you know our front seven um um you know we weren't being very patient with their um with their counter stuff and some of their Zone stuff they that P that back's really good he's really patient and and uh would kind of set up a cut back and we we just got out of our lanes a little bit there but I tell you what they're flying around the efforts there um I think in the secondary some of the deep shots that they took on us that you know we weren't seeing blown coverages that's what I'm saying I think there's so much there and they caught us I don't think we tackled great on some of those drives on some of the big runs we we still had chances to get him down and uh you know he slipped through us a little bit so we got to tackle better um and we'll focus on that this week you know it's a you know it's hard when you're you're not tackling every day you got to tackle with h uh drills and dummies and things like that but you know you got to you got to emphasize that you achieve what you emphasize that's what we got to get back to on offense it seems that you know Nate and Jeff have a a really good connection you know Jeff had one one yard shy of 100 yards um can you kind of talk about some of those deep shots you guys took on offense today and how you know you could see that progress in the future yeah I mean that's got to be a part of our offense and you know we just missed him the F in the first quarter um Nate just barely missed him and and that's a tough throw anyway I mean it's not um you know it's it was a good throw just just bar missed him and that that's got to be part of our offense Jeff's a a big play type of receiver um and uh we you know I thought reys really did some nice things tonight too um you know I think Nate's getting more and more comfortable you know he just got to Us in the summertime and uh you know you think about you know really 15 practices and and uh and really two games I mean is he's getting more and more comfortable with our uh with our offense too I mean I saw I'm seeing some really good things out of him he's a he's a great student of the game he he learns he learned a lot from last week coming to this week and he'll learn a lot more uh you know after watching film and things like that because he's a he's definitely a um you know he's definitely a competitor and and so we got the right guy there we just got to kind of um but Jeff Jeff's a playmaker you know and he he gives us that playmaking uh potential Steve Hall and Cortez uh both had big runs in their own rights tonight can you kind of talk about that you know two-headed uh you know La the back field and and that's that's the other part I think is going to you know we you know we really emphasize a lot in practice on first down especially in our Run game you know trying to get three or four yards to get us to a manageable second down and that's really um and I think there was too many times you know we we they'd get some good runs and things like that and and and we just lost some battles up front and that that can be a they're a very good front I give give them a lot of credit I mean they're ninth in the country I mean it's a that defense is a very good defense but we were able to do a lot of things against the defense like that that's what I'm trying to get our kids to understand is like you know that that's the ninth ranked team in the country and we there was so many moments in that game where we're we're we show we can play right with them you know it was it was some of our uh um but uh we've got a really great Back Field I mean even getting Gio back a little bit too um getting him even more into the equation Steve Hall um we're so excited about um Jared rhods who who is coming off of an injury I mean we we've got four running backs that can all do that you know TZ is your bigger power type back and he really ran through some tackles and I was really proud of how he he developed from last week against Kansas of kind of doubting some of his cuts and then he saw tonight when he puts his foot in the ground and goes uh really but we got a punch you know we're down the one yard line we don't get a touchdown there that was huge we had to settle for a field goal and those are inexcusable we we've got to we got to win the trenches up front that's an attitude thing and we got to challenge our own line to to to win that battle up front he's too big of a back not to to fall forward for a yard first home game of the season nice crowd over 4,000 people in attendance at Hunter Stadium can you talk about you know what it means the for the St Charles Community to come out tonight and you know support the lines uh at home one of the first you know six games this season yeah it was a great atmosphere tonight you know I think even the starting with the lion walk you know just the tailgate and the energy that was there and um you know uh great turnout um you know our fans were were great you know we got uh um you know it's uh you know kids can feel that I mean especially you when you can kind of hear the Roar and stuff like that um you know we're proud to be St Charles we're proud to be in St Charles we want to have that partnership with the St Charles Community and and uh it was really nice to see the stands pretty full tonight so um student section uh you know having them come out and uh you know we want to try to create a uh a great product and we're going to keep chipping away at this because you know I think uh you know we got to get back to the mindset of winning and and that's kind of what it's been like here and uh you know just because we're going through this this move um there's no excuse we we you know that that happened two years ago and our mindset has to be that we're already in FCS football we got to start playing FCS football and not use a move up as that excuse so that's uh that's our mindset moving forward
