the fan great to be here with you you may uh if you're watching on the YouTube feed you may wonder why we are kind of laid back in our chairs and uh doing things a little bit differently we'll explain that in a moment great to be here with you let's get our heads right on a Friday baseball returns I feel like all is all is right in the world now we'll see how it ends you haven't been paying attention to the world my friend that's fair that's fair that's well all is right in the world it's better than it was like six hours ago and of course we'll we'll get into that in a moment I have new headphones uh that I got today this morning for my birthday and my wife bought them for me and I'm getting used to them they're very uh they're very big how do they do I sound normal cuz it sounds weird to me you sound normal do I sound especially Rich you sound very rich very rich good that's that means the sound is working well in those new headphones almost sexy how does this sound is it extra sweet because it's against the Dodgers annoying it it still sounds annoying to headphones are working so they work perfectly I'm woodsy that is Paul Ryle he is the executive producer of the happy birthday Woods good morning how does 49 feel uh 49 feels pretty good actually I I I'm feeling pretty good this morning actually and and I wanted to thank Judith and Esther who are here right now from instant mobile nails and yeah you can't see what's going on right now but um listen summer break is all about relaxation it's all about you know shutting the engine down getting it back to neutral a little bit that's exactly what we're doing uh Ben and I are currently getting pedicures in the studio now I realize this does nothing for the listening audience but I will tell you this it feels very very good now there's a couple reasons why we did it number one because pedicures are amazing uh number two our beloved Ben has never gotten one before this is your first time and I want your thoughts on it right now um it feels a little weird because I don't think my toes have ever felt the the scrape of a Nile a file a or file an orile and I don't know what's coming so it's all kind of unexpected it it's like when you're going to the dentist and they reach for each different instrument you don't know exactly what it's going to do and you're wondering like maybe I'm not quite as relaxed as I should be because of that well you never relax at the dentist ever this this is a relaxing now there are parts of a pedicure where you're like oh boy when they they start to clip the nails you're like oh I hope they don't but these guys know what they're doing and again it's Judith and Esther from instant mobile nails they are amazing what a genius idea by the way yeah yeah it was a really good idea in fact I think we should start doing this every Friday if I'm being completely honest with you uh this feels fantastic but we missed the experience of the nail salon and the gossip with the uh with the girls at the nail salon I ladies you got any good gossip that you want to share anything good no laughing okay okay well yeah again Paulie said last night he goes I'm it might be a little bit self-serving I said Inc I said you're wrong it's very self-serving it's massively self the hypnotist in studio people could watch or listen and follow along and and they're laughing at the things that education I'm like this one this serves no purpose to the audience Zer whatsoever well except for you know just be happy that Ben's getting his first pedicure ever and boy does it feel good uh it's great to be here with you guys this morning had a uh I I woke up this morning to um my alarm and then I opened my phone and I had a a rash of text messages now you might think hey it's your birthday you're going to wake up to the happy birthday text and there were a couple in there thanks to uh our buddy Foster um have not heard from my parents yet which is weird uh but I did hear I'm sure Gary will be calling in oh I'm sure I did hear from Foster and a couple of other friends Roman our beloved Roman and uh then we had bosses from or uh emails and texts from our bosses last night at 1:00 in the morning apparently something happened with Microsoft and crowd strike and there was a bad update scent I think and it basically shut a lot of things down now it was a global outage Global outage did not just affect Odyssey San Diego radio stations no it I mean planes had to be grounded trains were stopped like it it sounds like it the police couldn't dispatch or book book people into jail or anything everybody car live was down oh his Xbox Live went down last night oh my gosh dude um television we had no prompter last night tell everybody about your fun night last night yeah so uh I was getting ready to do the uh the 11:00 sports like always had my scripts and everything in graphics all in and I find out 20 30 minutes before we can't call up the graphics we can't call up the prompter um I tried to print out my scripts because of course but that wasn't working either so what I ended up having to do was take a picture of my scripts with my phone and then bring the phone out onto the set so I could read my copy straight off like a photograph on my phone that's how desperate things got last night for the 11:00 how long was that segment 6 minutes it was no it was only about 2 minutes fortunately there wasn't much going on last night but it would have been funny if you were like yeah just talking about uh Jaden Le or something and you hold up a picture of your phone onto the C Jaden Le right that is uh they were able to put just a generic background behind me like 10 news but usually I have like specific Padre's graphics and a Open Championship graphic couldn't call any of that out couldn't the lower thirds where you usually see like who's speaking like the the sound bite from so and so none of that was able to come up and I don't even know if it was directly I would assume it's directly related to what was going with everybody else cuz this was around you know 11:00 p.m. last night but uh it was it was a mess and I'm sure other businesses are waking up to a big mess this morning too I probably had 20 plus emails I had a text from like the big boss to a bunch of people when the big boss when you wake up at 4 in the morning and squint at your phone and the big boss sends you a text that says emergency you kind of panic a little bit don't open your computer do not touch your laptop I'll admit I I had the worry that yeah they've taken away our transmitter and we going to be able to show up there's no more radio station we lived that yeah we did that before we've lived that again that wasn't it we've lived that before yeah yeah a we're we're off the air guys no so we're we're doing good we're fine we're getting pedicures here live on the air it seems to be the uh YouTube stream is working the radio is working the app I can't speak to it but it my guess is it it might be it's the best I can offer you on the Odyssey app every day is that it might be working you might be able to hear us there uh on the Odyssey app uh here on Ben complained yet yeah I haven't heard anything yet but uh I'm excited it's uh it's a big day we're kind of Summer break's coming to an end it's been a very fun week a very challenging week I hope you guys have enjoyed it as much as we have uh but it was it was it was a lot confusing as well because um I saw a a social media post of you going what what looked like you some sort of dog trip and I thought I thought you were done with dogs you kind of moved on to your cats and after the the last dog you were kind of done so what was going on yesterday uh I had a I did send a tweet that said uh don't mind us just off to a dog meet and greet right and I assume that meant like meeting a dog for potential adoption no um it it kind of worked the other way so we're leaving for vacation to Hawaii not this Tuesday but next so instead of boarding our little uh dog Fiona we Hannah found this company that they have people that will watch your pets for you like pet sitters and there's this um this elderly man his name is Dick and he's super super nice but so again remember we're dropping Fiona off not this Monday but next and typically you sign up you find somebody that you like you pay you do the thing okay great we're good to go dick is a stickler dick dick wanted to do a full come on Dick a full like full boore meet and greet an interview process an interview process now again so I said Hannah said I need you to go with me and I said yeah of course and she said I you know you never know right you this how a lot of date lines start and so I said sure I I'll go with you and so we drove over there and he lives 10 minutes away so no big deal and uh we parked in the the parking lot of his apartment complex and I assumed it would be a he'll come down and say hey okay you're Hannah and Steven and this is your dog Fiona oh sweet little baby okay we'll see you in a couple weeks can't wait looking forward to it right right what else could there be to what else could there be he he walks in he walks down he goes follow me and he leads us into his apartment which is the same thing that Buffalo Bill does in Silence of the lamps and so and I I'm looking at him going I can take him he's probably 75 if he has a weapon he might his reflexes might be a little slow I'll need to go low then high but I I can take this this guy I'm pretty sure so we get to his apartment we walk in and he's like grab a seat around his kitchen table by the way and so Hannah and I sit there thean on your skin yeah right right oh oh wor is that your is that your dog Fiona and so we're sitting at the uh what are you about a size 14 uh we're sitting at the table and he just is like so how are uh the bow movements how frequent and just starts firing yours or fion I think fion and he starts firing questions off at us now it's it's pretty clear pretty clear he's a sweet lonely old man and he was really really cool and kind but we were in there for about I'm going to say for about 15 minutes dude sitting around this guy's kitchen table doing our thing and uh answering all his questions and so we feel he feels hey I think my calluses are being buffed or something right now I'm not sure what that is is your dog this kind of tickle actually did you say your name is freder bimmel oh wa so he's just got an apartment yeah he's got an apartment why don't you just have dick come live at your house house and take care of your dog at your place while you're gone he gets nice upgrade Fiona gets to stay at home what's what's the problem here some guy just shows up with a duffel bag he's like all right I'm moving in like pet SL house sitter you're good to go I mean look if we had a you know if we had somebody that wanted to do that that would be considered but I don't think it was going to be some stranger so we do like we do the 15th it's ticklish isn't it [Laughter] oh my God never done this before it's ticklish isn't it a little bit yeah especially r on like the balls of your feet that's what I was hoping for that's exactly what I was hoping for your you're giggling get in there real good get in there good and deep so so anyway we finished the interview process and we uh you know everyone was amable to the whole scene and he was really he goes I'll I'll walk her out I'll walk her out he's very firm yeah I believe he's in the military in his in his younger days I'll walk her out you guys stand behind we said oh okay so he walked her took her out let her go potty and she gave him a little kiss and we were off and running so no we are not getting another dog um we we actually didn't want this dog uh but we have her because because my mother-in-law dropped her off and ran so we've got we've got her until we don't so uh she is a really sweet girl but yeah dick will be watching her for like a week while we're gone well I'm glad you passed the interview process it would be very it would be kind of humiliating to be rejected by dick because you or Fiona didn't meet correct standards corre cuz he's got some standards obviously he he really really does so yeah it was uh it was an interesting day and somebody's like Woods how high are you in that picture and if you look at the picture on on Twitter I do look super high and I said I no dude I don't I don't partake in cannabis AKA what is it ganja AKA cannabis AKA cannabis I don't really partake in it and I said those are called Roundtable eyes my eyes are like blood red and halfway shut ganja AKA cannabis yeah I did not partake at all uh in that I can't speak for the mes but I certainly you were also hypnotized yesterday been the hypnotic suggestion lingering in your eyes that's exactly right so uh it was a good day going to be a great birthday today we've got a good show plan for you as well so we will set the menu when we come back we're kind of summer break for the first couple of hours so celebrate woods' birthday we'll talk a little bit about the schedule release and then oh yeah we got business we got business in the second half of the show because baseball season is resuming so we'll tell you all about it when we come back there's a whole lot of De debris that is being left off of my feet and toes I didn't realize I'd be leaving so much of myself here buddy that's 4 49 years of of of debris plaque buildup or whatever they've got on there so I feel sorry I haven't got a pedicure in a couple of years expecting to be pretty bad imagine 48 years how hideous are his feet over there they could be worse thank you all right that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about my feet they could be worse you guys are so nice thank you so much this is a really good idea let's uh check traffic Kelly's out there assuming her crowd strike that two things can be true about the round table at the same same time dread it every week yeah wish we didn't have to do it yes enjoy it extremely while we're doing it actually every single time every literally every single time after we're done I'm like well that was great and that was a lot of fun it really fun yeah nice laughing pered up you like them yeah well no I do I I actually do enjoy the the process of being in the Roundtable discussing things with everybody the funny thing is is though and it not this is no fault of your you crushed it like we literally just all regurgitated all the stuff we'd been talking about all week you know the exact same hey Craig and Annie you know you guys talked about favorite game favorite moment what was your you know and so we go around because there just wasn't a lot to talk about I get that but also I also understand that not every single person listens to all four hours of every single show there's a lot of good content all week there is all the shows are discussing and it's good to bring some of that back and uh I learned something actually on the Round Table yesterday from I think it was Chris that concerned me the Cleveland Guardians who the Padres face the next three days have not lost a series at home all year zero none they have won or at least split every single Home Series now maybe the podr will be the first go in take two out of three it's got to happen you think or just go ahead and pull off the sweep it it happens it's baseball you get them coming out of the break everything's a little bit different but but knowing how important it is and we talked about this to get off to a pretty decent start here in the second half considering how jammed the national league Wild Card race is you're only a game above 500 it's a incredibly difficult road trip and now we're finding out not only you're facing the two best teams in the American League record-wise but one of them has been dominant on their home field all season long and that's how you got to start the second half of the Year tonight yeah you just got to figure out how to win tonight you know one and0 tonight um but it was no it was a great time it's always fun hanging out with your colleagues that you don't get to see a lot so I thought you did a great job and hopefully the uh the audience enjoyed it as well but yeah it'd be a good place like if you didn't get a chance to listen to any shows all week be a great place to go in and just kind of get your Padres info uh crammed into an hour you okay over there you fall asle this no this feels good this is kind of there's a bit of a foot rub element to it right now that this is the part that I'm enjoying yeah the most Dominic says wow if you just dropped in and didn't know what was was going on yeah we getting getting pedicures today it's my birthday and Ben's never had one before Paulie's had a monster week and deserves a pedicure as well Paulie has knocked it out of the park this week what so on my birthday later this year what is something you've never done before that we can have Woods do for the first time three that one's also going to be all about you but three girls at the same time we've only got two right now in studio right but I don't know I mean I pretty much tried it all but that's what I'm worried about it's it's going to be hard to come up with something your birthday is going to be elite we may get taken off the air yeah just so you know I mean I'm I I'm not saying anything about it but I am fully prepared to just ask forgiveness instead of permission for any of the stuff I have planned just just come wearing a loin cloth that day that's all I'm going to tell you just a little loin cloth and that's all you're going to need okay all right speaking of plans uh here are the plans for the show today set the menu I know there's still 63 games left in this current baseball season but we also know about the 162 the Padre's will be playing next season baseball more than any other sport likes to get a uh a move on in releasing the following Year's schedule and we already know what the 2025 schedule looks like for the San Diego pondre so I'm willing to do a little schedule talk coming up I love schedule and the funniest thing is Paulie said yesterday he brought up the schedule he goes I don't it usually comes out like right around now and then later on the day sometime between now and the next like month or so here's the schedule it was so good now we going to do what you used to do in the football season and go through each game L win win loss that's what we do our we can do a fake Padre's heartbeat for next year and see what it sounds like 162 but we'll take a look at some of the uh just the interesting elements of the 2025 schedule if you didn't have a chance to go through it we've got it in front of us we will discuss uh coming up in our 7 o'clock hour get to our regular features we'll take a look ahead at the Cleveland Guardian series pitching matchups take on Woods final day this week of the all girls all the time theme during summer break and then uh we'll have don't do this and then we'll celebrate some of woods' birthday at 7:35 we actually do have a couple of things planned that he does I think he's unaware of I'm very unaware he'll find out from Paulie and me what we have in store and then when we get to 8:00 summer break's kind of over we will uh yeah we'll kind of get back to business we'll switch the uh the font on the YouTube stream and we will talk baseball it is a sesp family Barbecue grand old barbecue Friday Jordan Schusterman is going to be with us at 8:00 as we take really first look ahead at what's going on in MLB as we get to the second half of the Year Ryle report at 8:35 and then of course it is Friday we've got a manager's report at 9:00 Mike schil will join us from Cleveland Ohio and we'll see how his Allstar break went Padres are reportedly or have already made a move today to bring up terso or Nellis and during the round table we got a little bit of breaking news uh via the UT through Annie that Fernando tatis Jr had an MR and the News was good the healing that they were hoping to see has taken place whatever that means with the stress re Junior and uh he is back to at least uh swinging the bat and throwing the baseball as he ramps up toward full baseball activity and a return that is now expected at some point here in the second half of the season no timetable necessarily but there was at least private concerns that this was something that could linger maybe all the way to the end of the year if they weren't careful but so far so good with Fernando ttis Jr so we got that bit of good news yesterday and they're going to need a couple of other things to break their way Woods I think over the next couple of months obviously to make the playoffs but they also don't need a miracle to make the postseason they're a game out and if they play well and Mike Schultz teams have been known for playing well in the second half of the season if he can continue that Trend Padres could be in good shape in in August and September yeah I I don't know how you know that's a weird Trend to me the the hey we always heat up in in August and September like I I don't how do you quantify that is that just blind luck I think it's just blind luck I don't know but when we talked to him in Spring that was always that was his theme now whether he kind of has embraced it or whether something he does strategically how he plans things out that manifesting he just manifests it to happen want his teams to be playing better as the season goes on what did he say better as the game goes on better as the series goes on better as the season goes on yep that was his Mantra from the very beginning now he has a chance to really you know put his money where his mouth is and in the second half of the Season you're one game above 500 if you play Better Baseball in the second half than you did in the first half I'll say this Padre should make the playoffs yeah agreed they play better than they did in the first half not it don't even have to be a lot better but if they play better they will be playing October baseball yep but they didn't play poorly in the first half so the bar is set at least moderately high and if you achieve and surpass that bar we'll see the pod race playing in October yeah it's going to it's also going to come down to you know what the other teams behind you and right there next to you do and you you don't want to get to that point you can you you can handle business by handling business you're not at that point yet not that not even close to that point not relying on anyone at this point you just play well and you'll be in I will say though are you guys going to be scoreboard watching from here on out cuz I know I will be I have already been doing oh yeah me too yeah I really start fairly early as soon as you can kind of determine which teams are the real deal maybe playing for a playoff spot all of a sudden I'll look at every match up like American League against National League it's obvious you're always cheering for the American League team gets a little more confusing like when the reds are taking on the Giants and I go I'm not sure which team I want to win and lose in this match up 100% And the real tough ones are when someone's playing the Dodgers and you go I want the Dodgers to lose but then again Dodgers beating up on other teams could be good for the San Diego pontre in a wild card race 100% no nobody's scared of the Dodgers in October no well we don't know if the Padres will be playing in October we do know they'll be playing in March next year as the schedule is out uh we will talk about the 2025 matchups uh that the team released yesterday coming up in our next segment happy birthday to Woods we are getting a pedicure live on the air it's been about 30 minutes I got to curious uh how many how many how many pedicures like on a busy day will you do all day like on a busy day yeah five C five clients it's hard work I mean you do more like homes or offices I go to home homes nursing homes that's awesome Citizens need pedicures too course yeah 100% in the studio ticklish is yeah I mean that's that's labor intensive hard work that's going on down there yeah dude yeah it is it is it feels so good that's so great all right the uh just submit the uh receipt to Odyssey expenses right to Adam clue see how that goes he's not here he's not here he'll probably just uh CU we'll just say it was a glitch on a crowd strike or something right there we go got manicures and pedicures well just pedicures I'm not I'm not getting a manicure I don't think so I I manicure them manicure mine with my mouth so every day all right pad R schedule for 2025 is already out we've got some of the the highlights and what makes this year's schedule different from any of the last few Year's schedules and we'll get to that right after a check of traffic here on 973 the fan from the 973 the fan traffic center here's Kelly Dan guys I don't know when I've seen it so busy on our roads let me start with the situation on southbound 163 at the 805 all Lanes remain blocked due to a fatal accident that happened around 1:30 this morning traffic is being diverted off at the 8:05 again all lanes block South 163 so give yourself extra time if you need to head through the Cy Mesa area also southbound side of the 805 in accident just passed Imperial that's got the fast lane block couple cars involved Cordell and Cordell traffic cam shows a collision on North down 805 before the 15 that's partially in the fast lane and Tow Tru is on scene of a collision Sunset Clips Boulevard at the 8 I'm Killy donck with benon Woods San Diego's number one sports station 973 the fan so in some ways Woods the padr haven't played a normal Major League Baseball schedule when you think about it since the year 2019 yeah pre pandemic obviously 2020 short season Co 2021 you come back there's no fans uh you know spring training was weird that year 2022 lockout started late spring training season started late and then 2023 World Baseball Classic more interrupted spring training but weird preparation for everything and then you had the trip to Korea uh in 2023 so there was definitely the last few years something odd about every single San Diego pandre schedule and what's different about the 2025 schedule that was released as far as we know it's just a schedule it's just home games and road games 81 of each and uh scheduled from March 27th when the pontre will open the season at Petco Park against the Atlanta Braves coming to town for four games all the way until September 28th when they will wrap up again at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks on the last day of the season and of course in between with the uh the way baseball formats their schedule play every team in the American League at least uh once including your natural Rivals the Seattle Mariners uh and then you will play two series against all the East and Central teams and you've got your four Series against your NL West Rivals uh pretty much for the schedule in 2025 yeah the uh the season starting on March 27th that's a touch early yes it does it makes me wonder when 2025 spring training is going to start feels like maybe mid January like March 28th oh was it March 30th yeah look up there it's right in front of you I mean Korea was earlier than that or Korea was like March 21st so it was uh it's right around it's that same week oh yeah I feel like I don't know like April 4 or something Thursday was the 29th so yeah this is uh this has got to be about as early as it's going to it's going to get that means spring training will start right around the Super Bowl now that the Super Bowl is in the middle of February was the first thing that stood out to you guys like when you perused the schedule uh for me it was the lack of it feels like they don't play many National League West series early in the season well they do they they play the Rockies they got a Rockies and a Giants and that's it like five games against the NL West until May until May and they got the Rockies again I mean where are the Dodgers on Dodgers are June June 9th is the first time we see those tours that that struck seven times in June yeah seven times in June um I looked at it I I I like and then six in August and that's it I never really liked the NFL schedule talk uh very much but I really enjoyed the baseball schedule talk now again we're not going to go game by game through here but I mean there's there's I saw yesterday everyone kind of plotting and planning their trips uh where are we going to go want to check out this ballpark that ballpark we have already made up our minds I've already I already got it cleared with the misses I texted her yesterday and I said uh me and the Fellas going to be heading out to the City of Brotherly Love on uh on June 29th you know the the that will be a Sunday to see uh Philly's game or two and then fly back and then it'll be July 4th weekend the Texas Rangers will be in that weekend so um I that that to me as a no-brainer middle of the Year head on out go check out what Philly is is all about so it's going to be great you've got the uh what really alternating obviously so many Padre's fans made the trip to Boston and Fenway Park this year next year it'll be back again Yankee Stadium the Padre's play in New York in the Bronx in early May that's a Monday Tuesday Wednesday Series so not a weekend one like they had against the Boston Red Sox this year that's part of a really long road trip in the beginning of May Pittsburgh New York and Colorado um they kind of have a fairly consistent schedule early in the season after they play opening day on Thursday there's not another Thursday game for like seven weeks they have Thursday off all April are you already counting how many round taes you're going to have to do next year oh my God there's like no off days on the round table until maybe May 22nd and we don't have the times um they don't have a Thursday game until yeah May 22nd after opening day yeah there's nothing until May 22nd on Thursday so generally they'll play going to be some loose Fridays Monday Tuesday Wednesday Friday Saturday Sunday and that'll be the Rhythm the Padre's kind of get into for for most of the first two months of the season so the first thing that stood out to me was I was kind of starting from the beginning and going chronologically and that second week of April I go a atth is that a mistake ATL was it a typo aens yes is play a lot of international games and then somebody pointed out that's the Athletics [ __ ] and I go and and and that will be why isn't it sa for Sacramento that's because the A's don't want to be known as the Sacramento A's they're simply going to be the Athletics at least until they finish their move to Las Vegas which I'm getting more and more skeptical oh about whether it's even going to happen even if even the move to Sacramento I know they're starting to build like a major league Clubhouse there but I saw this past week we had our Heatwave they have artificial they're going to have artificial artificial turf and it was like 114° and on the artificial turf it's like 132° somebody said yeah big Leaguers are going to love that they're going to be so excited to go to Sacramento to play on Turf now in April the Padres will be fine that's not a worry but you know in July August in Sacramento Outdoors it's going to be pretty brutal and the reason they're putting in the turf is because they also have the Triple A the rivercats are going to be playing so essentially there's going to be 162 home games in that little Sacramento Ballpark and they thought that real Turf isn't going to survive games every single night so they're going to have to go the artificial route for next season everyone go to May 20th on your well I mean go to may go to May 16th three against the Mariners off three or three against Toronto then Atlanta then Miami one day off three against Pittsburgh four against San Francisco three against Milwaukee three against La day off I mean they're June they have two days off in June it's going to be brutal that's a brutal brutal schedule and it continues all the way in through basically until July 3rd there's another day off there just random days off with with many many games Padre's had that earlier this season they were the team that really had to play a ton of games and addition to the two in Korea they stockpiled games they've played the most games of any team they played 99 games before the All-Star break I know the All-Star break isn't technically supposed to be right at the midpoint of the season but it's certainly supposed to be before 9 99 games as it is for most teams so they have the fewest games remaining this year they'll have a tough stretch as as Woods pointed out May and June not a lot of off days uh you got a lot of travel going through there so I was just so relieved um I saw that the Cubs and Dodgers were announced for the Tokyo series to start the year and to just look through the schedule quickly and see that the Padre's had no International gamees like thank God I think it's a great idea I think it's great for the game and growing the game Padre's have had too many recently like can we just get back to some sort of normal scene next well it it it takes out and not I I the the word excuse is always a u it's always an interesting one right because a lot of people will say well it's no excuse but I have a a bum ankle but that's kind of an excuse right it's just weird like if you say it doesn't that in fact make it an excuse yes right I'm not going to Alibi it but I won't aliy that but but the thing is is but I'm about to Alibi but I'm about to Alibi the hell out of this thing and that has been a um a talking point I I think is a nice way to say that the last few years hey well we had to go do this the WBC and this and that and hey not that they're not valid they they are but uh that goes out the window this year so you can't there's not going to be any of that uh going on at least on this uh on this show there will not be any alibiing for the guys having long travel and things like that now Mrs Woods was very upset because she has had major fomo the last you know two International trips and she really wanted to go see where they were going this year but uh it's not going to happen I I've have seen Dodger fans already tweeting who will it be on the mound for us will it be sh Otani will it be Yamamoto or will it be Roki Sasaki and I thought well that's very presumptive uh of you to think that it's Roki Sasaki it's also presumptive to think that shohi will be back in pitching by that point it's also presumptive to think that Yamamoto will be back in pitching as he's on the 60-day I right now you just never know I wouldn't go counting my chickens not not to defend the Dodgers but having to ask them to go to Korea then Japan two years in a row they have actual reason for like I mean it makes perfect sense it makes more sense than anything for Major League Baseball to take advantage of that and if you're going to spend that kind of money on Asian Star players you better understand that Major League Baseball is going to want to send you to play you know in that part of the world can we sign a bunch of on the the Padres and then we go to like Rome or something yes Padres baseball at the Coliseum in Rome all the way in dude it's a short porch all the way in watch out for the Lions let's get some some maybe sign some Greek players some Italian some Spanish players from Spain I these are these are good ideas we're just throwing them out there on the house well plenty of Caribbean players kurau series would be a lot of fun to take Jon back home and play some baseball but yeah next year's schedule is just pretty pretty normal uh you know we talked about the UN like the more balanced schedule it does it has the I talked about the the beginning of the Season not many NL West foes just the Rockies and couple against the Giants same at the end of the year Fighters will be done with the Dodgers and Giants before August before the last week of August they will only have two Series against the Rockies and one against the Diamondbacks in the last month of the year so if you are in a divisional race it's not going to be a lot of head-to-head matchups later in the year you're going to be scoreboard watching what's going on now when was the last time the pter were actually in a divisional race so we'll consider ourselves lucky if they probably are in September It's usually the Wild Card race and yeah then we get the Mets and reds oh scrub yep again if you're just joining us it's Woods's birthday and we have uh pedicures in Mobile pedicures that we just had ours and now Paulie is getting his during feels so good second half of this hour feels so good are you are they both both working on you at the same time Paulie like Open Championship second round is underway at Royal trun and the leader uh in the clubhouse today after a 69 Shane Lowry is at seven under par one in 29 19 seems like a fun good dude Irishman Shane Lowry seems to always be smiling laughing having a pretty good time looking for his second major title but the big story or at least the one that I find interesting and he's in the middle of his second round right now and he's holding on at 5 under he shot she shot a 6 under 65 yesterday Englishman named Dan Brown and if you haven't heard of Dan Brown don't worry I hadn't neither and neither had most golfers Dan Brown is playing in his very first major and ever he qualified uh about two weeks ago just kind of went through the qualifying process made it he shot as I said a bogey free 65 you know how many players have ever shot a bogey free 65 or better in the first round of their very first major none until yesterday in the history of golf he's the first one to do it and he did it on a tough course where scores were not easy yesterday so this guy is kind of just living a a magical dream right now he's one over through 12 holes but he's still alone in second place right now behind Shane Lowry and uh this I mean the guy hadn't made a cut in 6 months until last week when he finished 61st at the Scottish open and now he's in second place at the Open Championship yeah you you hate to say that it it won't last but it probably won't last but yeah I mean you can nobody's ever going to take that away from you but this is what separates the the the men from the boys here in these tournaments is hey you've seen all kinds of guys get out to these this feels really good on a Friday and then Saturday starts creeping and you're absolutely right you know you're golf enough to know that odds are Daniel Brown's going to fade and disappear but' be great if he didn't in the open it does seem like every once in a while you get the Jean velt or the Todd Hamilton who actually won the tournament and just sticks around the entire week and all of a sudden at the end they're coming up 18 and and they're winning the tournament you go where did this guy come from It's Always a great story now there are bigger names that are right behind him Justin Rose is 4 under two under today Scotty sheffler three under for the tournament two under today he's on 18 so he's going to be part of the mix this weekend as the number one golfer in the world looks to add to his major Hall guys who finished today Ander shafley 721 over today but he is in red numbers at one under tied for ninth along with Patrick kley uh Jason day is also at one under and they are all done for the day now on the other end of the spectrum guys who are struggling include Tiger Woods who's going to miss a third straight cut in major he is um last time checked 12 over par 14 over is where he finished 7977 so not not a good couple of days for Tiger who obviously is Rusty and does not have the ability to practice like he used to now for everyone like Colin Montgomery who says just just hang it up well should Windam Clark hang it up you know last year's US Open champ he's 16 over wow he's even worse than tiger should um Cameron Smith hang it up he's at 12 over after an 80 and a 74 there are other guys who have shot big numbers Roy mroy had a terrible day yesterday he'll need to go low today just to make the cut so there are guys who have had their troubles on this course tiger wasn't the only one but right now it's Shane Lowry who's in the lead at seven under par that's is it's going to be a really interesting couple of days uh out there how are the how's the weather condition supposed to be so it it's so unpredictable I was told that today was going to be the nicest day but they said the wind is howling awful so you never really know tomorrow is supposed to be very rainy uh all day and then Sunday is a little bit windier but less rain is what I heard but it CH when you're on the Scottish Coast that can change every 20 minutes or so yeah well listen uh let's get into some Padres baseball talk because it starts again tonight let me throw out the phone numbers for take on Woods still a thing that they don't can't beat left-handers but they do get they do get some righties in this series I haven't heard that narrative in a while uh you know now it's just about winning ball games they face plenty of right-handers against Atlanta and uh were unable to to to beat a couple of those guys but uh Tanner viby did Pitch at pet coill Park last year the Padre's got to him six runs on eight hits uh but he's a good pitcher I mean he's having a good year seven seven and four 377 er uh he struck out 123 batters already this year so he's strikeout kind of guy uh it's going to be interesting it's always fun to see how the team comes out after the the break you know there's some guys that probably running a little bit more ragged like jerks and proar he's been doing the All-Star Game scene and Robert Suarez he only threw a few pitches that we didn't get to see uh in the All-Star game because of Big Poppy asking everyone if they're having fun uh which was killer content but yeah man it's going to see you know how did you guys react to the break how's everyone feeling they know what's they know what's lying ahead man and it's a huge second half I get the sense that Cleveland's the kind of team that if you could have just skipped the break and just kept rolling because they've been playing so well in the first half of the season they would have liked to the Padres of course were a team that absolutely needed the break no question limping in not only you know physically with the injuries they're dealing with but just kind of mentally that last week did not go well losing six of their last seven so you kind of hope that the break flips the script for both teams like Cleveland loses some of their Mojo and the Pont r with a little rest come out but we'll find out probably a lot in these first couple of days and and certainly in this first road trip of what kind of second half of the Season we're going to expect because if they have a good road trip they will get through pretty much their toughest part of the schedule right now and be in good shape going forward if they have a bad road trip they're probably going to be chasing and having to go on a winning streak at some point uh you know to catch up in the Wild Card race so we'll know a lot in the next nine days which will culminate with the pad R coming home to face the Dodgers for the trade deadline days at the end of July insane just in it's just going to be an insane couple of weeks here game two of the series tomorrow is Dylan CE against Gavin Williams and then game three on Sunday is Michael King against Ben Lively uh to wrap up the series what are the times of those games let me see if I can find the schedule so today's 4:10 tomorrow is 410 and Sunday is 10:40 San Diego years ago Ben uh he was he's declared a sex offender back in 2011 accusations that he had been intimate with a 16-year-old girl so he was convicted and his status requires him to follow conditions right as a a registered sex offender he has to let law enforcement know when he moves or if he changes his name he's this is the second time this has happened where he moved and did not let them know he didn't change his name though he did not change his name but he moved and you can't just you can't have sex offenders just hopping around from place to place that's why there's a registry they need to make sure they know where he is at all times uh and so he he failed to do it again and uh will be heading to court very soon he will plead not guilty I I don't know how you what what are your personal feelings about sex offenders I'm against not sex offenders but LT I mean because he's a sex offender can you not what how do you I mean are you like but he's still one of the greatest if not the greatest defensive players no I have a Hardline stance I think against sex offenders cuz I kind of forgotten about this story until it brought up again I I mean the dude when if someone had said Lawrence Taylor before yesterday I would have said oh yeah meanest nasty pass rusher ever and I wouldn't really thought about anything but you know it was one of those things I we of course grew up watching LT play and he was he was must see TV and then you know he had a lot of problems with drugs and alcohol and of course I'm going to give you a little I'm going to give you a little leeway Guardians and then Charlie Condon who was taken by the Colorado Rock he also in line for giant bonuses that are approaching eight figures now that's crazy right I mean that's basball for a baseball player with yeah you know again we we say it all the time basketball different starting point guard next year football different starting cornerback next year uh baseball's different you may not see this guy for three to four years now all those guys at the top were uh College picks including Burns who went to Wake Forest bizan of course Oregon State yep and uh Conan went to Georgia so there were a lot of college picks at the top of the draft well good for him I mean he got his bag now he's got to deliver it's a big bag it's a big bag dude it's a lot of pressure like it's a tremendous amount of pressure I mean i' you know you see those stories but it it can affect you mentally when you know you're getting that much money but it doesn't make baseball any easier well and and when you walk into the clubhouse in minor leagues and you're now a professional baseball player and every person in there that's been grinding and and eating PB and JS and sleeping on Floors is like cool man how's that $9 million that you got I mean it it doesn't breed uh it does breed a lot of good feelings I would imagine from some of the other guys in there and and you know those those guys are up against it right shoulder okay southbound 163 at the 805 remains blocked all due to a fatal Collision happened around 1:30 this morning four people lost their lives in this crash guys just a horrible situation uh down there sabaro we went to In-N-Out in- and out okay in- and out is a I mean those we have those here too I don't do that here I know I know that In-N-Out though right on the 15 with the giant Las Vegas style sign is pretty cool one they had one attached to to the hotel where oh wow I didn't know that the kids had fun kids had fun I mean they were they were Helens and so all I can think about was you cuz I mean I never said about my kids but I know you say about yours all the time are they were not in the mood to be listening so kids running wild in Vegas is certainly a scene it's certainly a scene and it's a it's a choice I couldn't peel Ethan away from the blackj so as we uh as we wrap up summer break here in the next four minutes did you catch any of our Shenanigans this week cuz it got a little weird no I didn't I saw the graphicss you were putting out but that's it I had no time to do you didn't know about who we had in studio yesterday for instance no I don't we where you're like oh and now you'll do anything that no it's not exactly right it's not like that it's not like that at all he you're completely and he tells you you're not really asleep and you're not you're not you're not out of your mind you're still you everything's there you're just relaxed and open to the the possibilities of you know what what I'm talking about and you feel very safe and comfortable and Rel he talk you into the possibility that aliens exist he did no he only had like 3 minutes yeah we're kind of at the end trying to fix my golf game is what he was trying to do it all runs together now but what else did we do the first couple of days of summer we got pedicures this morning what did we do the day before shavings on the floor here I'm sure Jr blow no we got it we cleaned it up did you see our FaceTime roulette that we did oh that was all right well listen we uh we decided G around Vegas so yeah we um it was uh Lenny Kravitz was on stage and Denzel called him and he took the call and live and concert hang on everybody it's my brother Denzel so I said we all have people in our phones let's try to FaceTime see if they pick up it was 7:30 in the morning and so I went first did Skip shocker he answered awesome picked up was great he tried Tri Kevin o Connell he did not answer later roulette like literally Lally find someone famousy not P roulette we went to find someone famous to answer and then he he texted back later and said Oh I thought it was a butt dial I would have answered if you had just given me some warning that wasn't the game though it was completely Rand completely Rand he didn't think you were calling ask me the starting quarterback sort of like who did you do first I tried mud tried mud mud did not answer did not answer and then I tried Matt strong thinking he was probably on a plane it was the day after the allar game after the allar game thought that would have been a good he got back to you later too right he did he said oh dude I'm so sorry I was a traveler so then I went to my phone and I pulled up Andy Buckley who played David Wallace on the office and I hit it and he answered WoW connect connecting and he's like what's up guy it was incredible it it was we had an incredible week incredible week um and and a horribly stressful idea Adam it was so stressful his dad Woods was stressed his dad had to turn the show off they could not even listen to my parents like was so nerve we had such a good fun week and now it's going to be 8:00 and it's time to get back into business baseball's back BB is now officially back summer break summer break comes to an end and we will start start things off as we do every Friday at 8:00 a.m. a grand old barbecue Friday Jordan Schusterman from cesp his family Schusterman is back with us Jordan finished with your All-Star experience tell me uh tell me everything how did tell us the whole tell us the whole story oh man man all right so got it on Friday or sorry got it on Thursday and then we talked to prospects on Friday and then we saw the Futures game then we saw the draft then we saw the home Derby then we saw the allar game and then we went home Perfect all right best best part worst part o best part worst part uh I'm a draft D so I love the draft I think the draft at the Fort Worth Stockyards I don't know if you guys have ever been there as like Texas tourists but what a goofy thematic way to do like I loved it I thought it was really cool I think that that's how you was the perfect size for leaning into event like that so I really enjoyed that worst part I mean you know the Derby wasn't the best agree agree agree I mean the last five minutes were great if you sat through the first 3 hours and 55 minutes Jordan I I know that you and Jake are like the biggest baseball heads on the planet and and put the rest of us to shame I know you have thoughts about it I know how you could make it better personally if they would just give you the keys what would you do to make the Derby better I wouldn't change that much I think that we might have just had a clunker like I think that like the guys that we were excited about gunar Henderson you know Pete some of these guys didn't show up in a ways that we expected so I I don't want to and I know because there were some small format tweaks that it felt like it was so much worse I just think we need to condense it all a little bit either have rounds slightly shorter either have a couple fewer hitters either have two rounds instead of three I don't think we need to change too much I really do think listen we've been to every Derby since 2016 and this one felt like the most lackluster but it also reminds us that like normally you have really really memorable moments and you at least have individual rounds even if it's not the actual winner that you remember for a long time and this time ultimately fittingly what we'll remember the most is that last swing that wasn't a home run right and so as happy as I for tasar Hernandez and I think Bobby Wht Jr did do pretty well and it was pretty exciting to watch him when he was getting going we just didn't kind of find that Rhythm we didn't have that hot streak that ridiculous stretch that we've seen in recent years from guys like flag guys like Julio it's just hard when you know there are guys sh Otani is there but not not participating and Aaron judge is there but not participating I don't know that I'll ever feel excited about it when I know the real home run hitters are just sitting and watching and I same thing with the basketball slam dunk contest you know when it's not Jordan and Dominique Wilkins and you don't know who these guys are it's not quite the same no for sure and of course we wish that there were more more participation from some of the top guys but I also would say that like Bobby Whit and Gunner Anderson are two of the rising stars in the game like it's not a insignificant thing that they competed and Bobby was great gunar wasn't you know and it happened so I don't know I I don't want to overreact too much to this one but I also don't want to pretend like it wasn't disappointing because I would in the in the in the yard and definitely talking to people that watched it at home it was it was a little bit lackluster it was long it was just it was just kind of long and and yeah drawn out a little bit much like the show can be sometimes we're talk yeah 100% we're talking to our pal Jordan shman from sesp his family Barbecue so here we go man second half uh starts right now for the Padres a little bit little bit less than half they they've already played 99 games you know we're we talked about it yesterday on our Padre's Round Table um bit of a razor Ed here for for our team in San Diego of course AJ preller has has made Moves every deadline he's always active kind of what are you hearing Padres or otherwise about an active or inactive uh trade market this year I mean I would say I very much expect them to be active I expect them to be aggressive and adding I think that they are one of the better teams in this NL Wild Card mess however good timing guys I'm going to go see them this weekend there in Cleveland I will be there I will be there this afternoon I don't know if I'll be there for the game this afternoon but I will definitely be there pregame and I am excited to be around the podres and kind of see how they're feeling last year when I saw them it was like the bottom of their season in Cincinnati I think this year obviously the timing coming out of the All-Star break it's almost like you know another spring training where everyone's like all right here we go we all feel awesome fresh late whatever and the Padre's even having fallen out of that third wild card spot I think still have reasons to be feeling pretty good um but yeah I mean there's there's certainly holes here and when you have this mess in the National League where I think more teams are going to be tempted to sell I think they are a team that will take advantage of of the opposite right they will be like listen there's no they there ain't no we're I'm AJ Pell we're the we're the Padre's we just keep going forward and forward and forward sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and I think that might benefit them now at the same time this is not a market that is going to be very easy to buy in and so that is what is going to be difficult and I think it will probably we saw them already jump it earlier this season with the arise trade this time I'm fascinated to see how long it takes some of these teams to finally be willing to let lose like for will the Marlins for example we just recorded a deadline preview this morning will the Marlins do the same thing as they did with the rise and make a trade in the next couple days or will they take it down all the way to the wire and then and then take the best bid at that point and I think the Padre's we could see them out bid some other teams and and jump ahead of the line or they're just going to end up stuck with everybody else just waiting until those last couple days well Jordan it's that weird time of year and you talk about teams being tempted to sell and I I think with the Padres as you know we're always tempted to buy and and AJ preller is you know head down moving forward uh I I don't know how much the next five six games matter I think there's a plan kind of in place and I think they're going to add as well but there's so many teams like you said tempted to sell but if you're the Pittsburgh Pates and you're 48 and 48 you're the Cincinnati Reds and and you got guys coming back you're the Arizona Diamondbacks the San Francisco Giants those are those teams where it's like the New York Mets like are we going to if you're a New York Met fan you cannot stomach every one of those teams will get killed by their fan bases if they sell right now right they would get murdered yeah the Mets are the one that I am just so fascinated by because generally I agree with you except that the Mets the way that Steve Cohen has talked the way that the fans have generally bought into the Sterns vision of like an actual like be patient LED for it to come together I've been saying this since before the season like I don't understand how you could be the Mets and have this many good players this many good veteran players yeah and go backwards right but I don't know man I if they're thinking big picture they might they might do it but I agree with you in general though that a lot of these fan bases yeah it's got to be really hard now I do think that there's a difference between going backwards and staying put I think even teams like the Pirates the Pirates to me I kind of see them the same way as the Reds last year where it's like all right are we actually good we're feeling good because we have a lot of young players that are coming up and making us feel better but are we actually going for it now the Reds you said last year if they had done more you could have said they might have snuck in they were still alive at the end of the season last so you're probably going to end up with some of those teams here at the same point but man San Francisco I mean you can't they can't go backwards I don't know how good they actually are but they've invested way too much in this you could maybe say the same thing about the Cubs well they they see they maybe seem a little bit more willing to just say this isn't working we got to reset it's too many teams there some of those are going to have to make a decision and I do think that the next 10 days are going to tell us a lot and as for the Padre's just looking at the schedule I'm sure you guys have kind of noted this it does set up pretty interestingly right we got a 10 game Road Trip uh or nine game road trip and then you come home on Deadline day to face the Dodgers that's amazing that that is a pretty amazing uh schedule set up uh Guardians first of course one of the best teams in the AL Nationals that's an opportunity but then Baltimore right before the deadline so this is going to be a challenging trip it's going to be really interesting to see where it puts them but I still expect as long as they don't go two and eight over their next you know 10 or nine like they will be adding in I feel like we're putting so much emphasis on a June road trip but July but a July a July road trip but at the same time if it all unravels on you coming out of the gate here like you could go from buyers to sellers even like yeah but the problem is like besides Kim I don't really know who you're trading like I the Padres are not they don't have there are some of these other teams that have so many expiring contracts that are just like all right like just tell me when and I'll I'll I'll it's not going to happen Jordan but I mean the most valuable Commodities would be pitchers with more than one year of control Dylan C Michael King they would they would return an absolute truck load but of course the padr aren't going to trade him because they need both of those guys and more if they're going for it and they have to go for it but I'm just saying in a hypothetical World those guys would immediately be two of the most hot Commodities on a trade market talking to Jordan Shusterman go ahead yeah well and we have seen obviously they've traded made big trades and then traded those guys away I don't have to tell you guys that and then the other obvious one guys I don't even want talk about this they're they're they they will be in it they will be adding I'm just saying there's another guy in a one-year contract who was just an All-Star making like zero dollars so that I know I know you know that that's not one in a market where there's no hitters but um also at this point I'm not convinced jerks and proar is going to play well anywhere else yeah I mean I I fully fullyin jxon of that just to get the brainwash you have only one place where you can possibly play so we don't have to pay you that much because he is made for San Diego got one spot uh Jordan you mentioned the Dodgers and I mean not just the Padres but if I'm the Diamond max or the Giants right now I'm kind of kicking myself because this is as vulnerable and as disappointing as they have ever really been in the last decade until the playoffs obviously but in the regular season and none of those teams are taking advantage of it I mean they they only have a seven game lead but it just still feels like they're too far away I mean is is this going to go down as one of the most disappointing Seasons the way the Padres and Mets were last year for the Dodgers this year even if they do make the playoffs I guess if they make a run they're not going to care but yeah no but I I agree with you and and Jake and I kind of got into this a bit off the off the podcast because he saw them in Philly and he was like this team stinks and I was like yeah like fair and I saw them in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and they were terrible and I I've only seen the Dodgers look bad I'm like yeah but also we are at the point now with them where they're so injured where it's like it's not the team we were talking about like it's just not the team we were hyping up is not on the field right now and so that doesn't mean that it's not going to end up being really disappointing if they win 91 games but I don't it's different to me than if we're looking at all these players that we were hyping up and they were underperforming because the truth is Muki was amazing GL now was amazing Yamamoto was really really figuring out before he got hurt right like Muny was having another great season before he went down so we kind of did see it there that team was looking like the Dodgers that was hyped up to be in May and then they all got hurt and and there are obviously problems with this roster too right like the bottom of the lineup even when they were playing well is still atrocious so I think that there are still reasons to to kind of criticize and say that they've disappointed in some elements but generally I just feel like it's whatever version we're watching of them now is just not now if that version is still the one we're watching in September and October then yeah that's a problem right but as it stands now I just I don't even really feel comfortable um analyzing them in that way at the same time what you can still say is uh yeah this is a massive missed opportunity for for the other three teams because when else could you would you be be a be able to have them you know struggling to this degree and you would hope that they could make it a little bit interesting we haven't had an interesting obviously 21 was you know singular but besides that we have not had anything remotely interest you know compelling it felt like all of we had one division race for the decade was essentially 21 and other than that it has been non-competitive in terms of trying to win the NL West last thing for me Jordan quickly uh we were talking about the 2025 schedule that came out Padres uh in in April have atth at a road trip to a which is apparently the Athletics that are going to be we think in Sacramento I heard some reports though this week that like there are buyers in Oakland who want to keep the team in Oakland and majorly baseball is trying to keep it quiet because they don't want people to know that yeah no Oakland wants to support this team they just don't want to support John Fisher how is this going to play out in in your mind yeah I mean you know Manford spoke earlier this week and he was like no like the decision's been made you know full team ahead we're we're doing this we're going to Sacramento Oakland is over Oakland is the thing of the past and that seems to be how MLB is is treating it and I think the reason they can do that is because because Unfortunately they know John fer ain't going anywhere right if if like I I'm sure there are people rich people in Oakland that would like to do something about it we know I don't even think that's really new information I think we've known that there have been Bay Area people that have tried to buy them from John Fischer for years and he's like no it's not happening so I think that that is what is keeping Manfred so steadfast because there's only one person that's actually hearing from John fiser regularly and it's Rob Manford right there's no one else that's really accessing this guy on a regular basis and so he's basically just responding to what he's hearing from the owner which is you know one of his 30 bosses and so it's really unfortunate for a lot of reasons there's a lot of concerns about how baseball is going to look in Sacramento um but that's that's my read on it is it just it's just the outside stuff doesn't matter this has been true for John fiser for a long time yeah you could you could do all you want it's he clearly does not care he's going to move forward with whatever plan you know he has unfortunately well it also sounds like the league like I'm thinking about when the NFL moved a couple of the teams to Los Angeles they wanted that market so bad that they were just going to be like la la la la blinders man just la la la yep MLB wants Vegas yep yeah they're like oh does oh it doesn't make any sense like oh who cares like we're we're going like we some guys P for everything wants the charges in Los Angeles H we don't care we're going we are going to be there that's what this is now for Vegas except we have this weird Sacramento interval yeah no one in Vegas really wants the A's I know but like they they've convin they're convinced that like pretty significant deal I was reading earlier that like planes had to be uh no takeoffs Trains and Automobiles yeah everybody was grounded um but we had a couple of people reach out through social media saying there might have been some issues trying to download the podcast of today's show like after the fact all I can say is like there was a massive massive outage things are mostly running uh back to normal right now but some parts of our show may be impacted still and just hang tight hang tight everyone's tell the blue screen of death that everyone was getting like you try to log on whatever just blue is what you get on your computer screen damn dude I've been told it was a relatively simple fix at least in the building here uh very tedious having to go to every single computer that was affected um but at least remember why 2K and everyone was afraid that everything was going to happen I had to volunteer while they took I was the new guy at my very first job out of college Y2K and I had to go in at on remember when it was it was New Year's Day 1999 is ending the year 2000 is starting so do you think I blew it out that night once maybe had one or two in Chicago that night and then had to drag my ass to the office at 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday or whatever it was uh to go in and make sure all the computers turned and that was it was excruciating it was an excruciating morning and I did it I mean everyone was really nervous it was that everything was going to collapse Society was going to be over it was the biggest zero nothing happened nothing nothing not one damn happy birthday happy birthday to me staying around for three years uh it says here he's coming off his season he had 108 points last year that was the second most in team history he is an unreal human being number one he is everything that a captain should be uh in in sports nobody plays harder when you meet him you're like hey how you he's like hey how you doing and then you see him on the floor and he is like a like a cobra like he will just kill you like he's so tough and he told me the greatest story um how he grew up in Canada his dad he has an older brother and I think there's a threeyear difference and his dad said to him he goes look Wes when he's a kid he's spes six and he's like I know you want to play lacrosse your brother plays La lacrosse you better play up with him because I'm not going to two things on the weekend so if you want to play lacrosse you're going to play up with the old guys he goes I got my ass kicked every day forever playing up with the old guys he goes but it it sharpened me into the player I am and he is an elite player an elite person me too me too side question because you mentioned that he's like a cobra what's the scariest snake is it a cobra is it a rattlesnake is it an anaconda COBRA they stick their heads up and all of the above asps very dangerous I think the SE the ones that are in the water those are like the water moccasins those to me are the scariest snakes swim and they Slither through the water that creeps me out but the way the Cobra like raises up that's pretty scary too bro I would I would I would evacuate like have some better Ral report stories but in the NBA I did see there was a uh a sign and trade the rare sign and trade involving Russell Westbrook who I feel like has played on half the teams in the NBA at this point yes he's the Village bicycle the NBA it's he has played on a lot of teams so he actually I was I had to look it up he was drafted by the Seattle Sonics but never played a game for them because they were relocated after the draft that summer so he played for Oklahoma City he played for Houston he played for the Wizards he played for the Lakers for a couple years and he was previously with the Clippers and then he was traded to Utah Jazz yeah but it's they're doing a a sign and trade so they're going to Utah is going to wave his wave him and buy out his contract and then they're going to trade him to Denver or he's going to sign with Denver he sign with Denver and he's going to be a nugget now and team up with joic and and Murray and uh try to make another run get back to the championship after uh not winning the one last year nice all right it's a lot of lot of stops for Russ very polarizing player remember you hate him I don't hate him you hate him I remember triple double bit you hated it the triple double bit is a bit much but again some of the triple double comes with you know assists and rebounds they they're always good things but somehow I don't feel like his teams ever are that great the Lakers weren't that great when he was on their team it just early Oklahoma City was probably the best version he averaged it yeah yeah we had just started on the show I think MVP averaged a triple double that's bananas over the course of 82 games but you know the Nay SS will say well what did you do in the playoffs so how does your team do and it kind of sucks because he does not have that Hall of Fame question for him is going to be an interesting one because the numbers will certainly be there God what's he there going to be some people to go really Ross how much he got left in the tank man that's a long career and he plays hard plays hard he just goes at 110 miles hour all right and then finally I did tell you that there was a Disneyland story now this made me I love a sweet Disneyland story kind of sweet so Disneyland is celebrating uh their anniversary they opened uh July 17th 1955 that was older than you are they are older than me 20 years older than you how old are they Woods they're uh 69 that would be 69 years old congratulations it's a I hope I see 69 now I did see they're offering uh for residence of Anaheim okay they're bringing back like the residence special you can get a park pass for $69 not bad pretty nice actually move to Anaheim but okay Anaheim worth it to move to Anaheim for a $69 pass you go to Angels games I guess Angels games yeah but then Ducks there's been some discussion because typically they will say you know it's the 50th Anniversary the 60th anniversary of Disneyland they're going to have merch uh you know mugs t-shirts sweatshirts whatever with the number throughout the year like celebrating the anniversary Disney now there is this is not official there's it's just kind of speculation spe swirling around on the internets but uh everybody is saying that Disneyland doesn't want a bunch of merch with 69th anniversary on it so they are calling it The Ro road to 70 the road Disneyland's road to 70 how juvenile they're just going to spend the whole next year on the road free gaming their 70th anniversary I'm on the road to 50 as right now starting today the road to 50 road to 50 not 49 on the road to 50 first of all you can you can always just say it's our 70th year in existence because technically that doesn't fit on a t-shirt very wellth Disney it's our 7th Disneyland's 70th year like w this is now your 50th year correct on the planet Woods's 50th year all year long it's my road to 50 I think they're screwing up I think they are too I haven't been to Disneyland in a few years I'll probably go at some point in the next few years if they sold uh Disneyland merch like t-shirts or whatever that said 69th anniversary everyone's buying GD right on buying troyman already took out a trademark on that number two I think everybody would buy it yeah people that wouldn't normally Buy disy merch will buy that's what they don't really want that though they have they have lot money who likes selling merch they have they yo Disneyland is good at selling merch they're like they're protecting the brand there's nothing it's just a number right I think they're worried that other people might misuse the brand and the number yeah again in a a way that is out of the context that they intended Disneyland didn't officially announce that or anything like that they call Ro so it leads you one to speculate that they don't want to put dancing around it trying to avoid it and then the speculation was you know from a bunch of Disney people were like look they don't want to embrace that no all right yeah it made me laugh I mean it's a bit overrated Disneyland nope there's a lot going on it's hard Focus oh part of the challenge you means the other that is it is part of the challenge it's not the greatest usually I can just go to a break after something like that but I can't six minutes or something five minutes I can't this is this is now a difficult spot You' put me in I I I didn't guys the guys that that really count uh it starts Kevin AC writes a piece it says last month was not a particularly good time for Manny Machado at the plate and he was clearly tired of the discomfort physically the failure emotionally his voice resonated with frustration and uh he was asked what kept Him going what kept Him believing he said Shelty honestly is a big factor in this he's been huge in talking to me about it that is that it's about the Long Haul just keep working don't think about today don't think about the 0 for four or the losses whatever just keep working keep working keep working Bri jerks and proar uh in the same article was like I love him I absolutely love him he believes in US and and they did say somebody did say Jo mus Joe musgrow said we've gotten our asses chewed a few times this year which again you know he's never going to tell which will surprise some people because of how relentlessly positive and supportive and supportive he is publicly but we've always kind of suspected we've suspected it and that things are a little different behind closed doors bro the the the the thing that makes the most sense in my head when I think of Mike schil and his players is me and my kids I have absolutely chewed their asses out you know absolutely but you'll tell us about it then I'll tell you about I'll tell you guys he will not he won't tell us about it is he doing himself a disservice because fans would love to hear uh you know five game losing streak not playing well I him up I I had some things to say to that team in the in the locker room after the game he won't tell us that even though he is telling them that but he gives back he gives love and knows when to drop the hammer you know no one's going to listen to a guy you know after everything that's happened here no one's going to listen to guy that walks in day one he's like it's my way you better listen to me like not at this level it just doesn't work unless it's a team full of rookies that's the only thing that's going to work on but when you got veterans that have been doing this for 10 plus years it's just not going to fly and he it seems men and again as I've said all week don't don't get it twisted all of that means nothing you know unless they figure out a way to make the playoffs but the guys are certainly uh pulling for their Skipper that is something very very new that we have not heard any glowing reviews about any manager since we've started the Ben and woods program ultimately if you want to keep your job as a major league baseball manager yes there have been some managers who've like lost the fan base and eventually it becomes a problem but first person you don't want to tick off is the owner the second person you probably don't want to tick off is the general manager Bob Melvin and then after that it's the players the fans are well down the list of people that you need to please as the manager of a baseball team and Mike schil does understand that he knows he appreciates the fans and knows that the organization needs them but for his job in particular what the fans think of Mike schil is fairly irrelevant correct I believe correct I do too I really really do and and yeah again you can appreciate that certainly and and he's not he's not going to Pander to the fans but what he will do is take care of his players and and again this article uh that came out today it it's a positive article because he's been a really positive guy proar says um where is the quote I saw from jerks and it was really really good well I'll look for it we can ask my children about and one level even lower if not caring about is morning radio show hosts and what they think of you I think way down the list way down the list which is why you do hear some relax I mean I know I'm I'm not great at it I'm kind of trying to learn the older I get I need to to relax and don't think about the show or work or anything are you able to kind of turn it off at all I think I've been able to learn how to separate for the most part kind of would uh equated like a dimmer switch you know when the season is taking place you know it's you're you're always on you just can't burn at the highest brightest level the whole time you'll just burn out but you know it's always resonating so you just turn the switch down a little bit it's marinating in there but um you know you're not you're not so consumed by it that you can't can't enjoy your life in other areas so uh you get back together uh fly to Cleveland see all the guys what's your what kind of do you get an update from everybody how do you get everyone back in the the baseball frame of mind after a few days off I think everybody's in the in the baseball frame of mind um you know um guys we flew in yesterday high percentage of the club was with us um you know guys are in a good spot relax ready to go um you know the the guys that came in yesterday saw a couple of them to the hotel but you know we'll see him today start the process with uh getting after the Guardians how uh talking to the skipper Mike schil here on Ben and woods this morning and I I just know it from a fan perspective watching the allstar game with my my six-year-old The Pride that he felt watching uh all of our guys perform the pride that I felt I was obviously a little disappointed that we didn't get to actually hear them talk about how great Robert Suarez was but you know for you the skipper you're around him every day what was that sense of Pride like for you yeah it's good to see the guys you know be there be a part of it rightfully so um you know proud of them you know these guys I get the privilege of of uh seeing him play like we all do every day but also the additional privilege of of seeing the kind of effort and dedication they have to their craft and and um you know see it pay off in individual honor like the All-Star game and then see him perform I me all three of them did great you know um you know Jackson you know hit the lean to the left and then go got made up for it on the ball that you know down the line got a knock and you know jerks and you know does what he does gets gets things going um big part of that three-run inning is the Rope down the right field line of course Suz as you mentioned came in eight pitches two puns shouts you know stuff was really really effective and and electric so um the guys did well represented the Padre organization very very well so I know you probably didn't see it because you got other things on your mind but uh Kevin Acy I think you call him Ace who covers your team for the UT wrote a real nice uh real nice piece about you and the team this morning and specifically a lot of it was about some of the success that you've had as a manager in the second half of the season and I know that was kind of a message you had way back in spring training better as the game goes on better as the series goes on better as the season goes on do you feel like you've accomplished that and are still on that same track that you talked about to have a strong finish to the season yeah man very process oriented um you know looking always consistently look individually collectively how we're improve and take advantage of our experience we did every day other people's experiences growing from them um I do feel like that's taking place I feel like um good portion of our club is is growing individually I don't want to list them all but you know you know just a couple of them um clearly you know Jackson's done well but you know Mor H EST stra up you know take the next steps kic you know rule five guy coming in with mostly doublea experience and starting to get his footing and you know starting to graduate in some bigger moments for us um you know Michael King's thurwell Waldron's taking some of the next steps and pitched well Vasquez has improved I mean you know it's a young Club in a lot of areas not a lot of you know practical experience in the big league so when you have that mindset of of continual Improvement you know um it typically can work out if you're if you're dedicated with sensitivity of what that can look like and working in collaboration with the staff and the players so overall I'm pleased yeah I think we you know we definitely have some ways to go to uh continue to shore up you know our processes and what that looks like but but I know we we're heading in the right direction talking to the skipper Mike Mike schel here on Bannon Woods this morning and AJ PR had said look it's a 60 game Sprint right now you're quoted in the same article saying yep it's it's time to go I've always wondered and I think I know the answer to it but I'll ask it anyway like you said guys are in a baseball frame of mind will there be a a Mike schil you know fiery let's let's start now it all starts tonight does that is that something that goes on I know you got young players but everybody in there seems pretty motivated to to win on their own will you kind of address the team tonight before this game no you know look I not one I mean yeah it's we're in more of a Sprint mode but I I come from a place of every game's important you know going to prepare for every game you know is the most important game there is that day it's the most important game of the year so I've got that mindset I think pretty much the club has that mindset um so there's no like new Rocky let's goig in our clubhouse about what's going on I feel like there's a hungriness to our group you know there'll be some you know subtle messaging about how we continue to look to to prepare and compete um you know today moving forward but um there's not like a you know Clubhouse get together and you know I think that's uh I think we're we got to club house is in a pretty good place knowing where we're going I know your rule no breaking news unless you accidentally tell everybody that Randy Vasquez had a baby like last week but this isn't this you're not breaking any news mlb.com has already said that Tio orelis is is with your team for the start of the second half of the Season what can you kind of tell me about terso and what you guys have seen and and maybe what his role is going to be uh going forward here for the second half uh I'm not sure you've got that accurate oh mlb.com is wrong now new okay no I don't know I don't know I don't read mlb.com but terso has been added to our 40-man roster okay 40 men not necessarily the 26 man that's another move entirely that's correct yeah t has done a great job swing about he is Swing about well at Triple A yeah he's been doing great um and he's earned the opportunity to be added our 40 man roster got it ah see all right specifically you got to get the details right Woods yeah 100% I'm glad you asked details and that's I'm glad he clarified that's good to know well now if they need him they can call him up though they don't have to make another corresponding move on the 40 Man exactly exactly it's a first step of the process it's the skipper Mike Shield um last one for me can you give us just kind of a you know checked in with all the players and I know you get reports and how how were some of the guys that uh you know you're I I we saw the report about Fernando tatis Jr coming back what a great piece of positive news that was Joe Musgrove talk to him kind of where where do some of your your guys that you're going to need these guys for the the the home stretch here how are they all doing yeah I mean we know we got we we you know we got some of the big big boys missing so we're definitely going to need them the team's built around them and um you know I've been pleased with the way we've competed without him and people have stepped up but you know reality is that you know during the stretch run we're gonna we're going to need um you know guys like Toddy and and Joe back in back in the fold you know we just got bogey back which is good clearly and um you know relative to tody you know still in a in a healing pattern um you know he's he's been able to start some light activities um with not a ton of stress as you would imagine and he's into it so um but you know overall it looks like he will be back at some point this season when I I couldn't tell you um and you know Joe Joe continues to take positive strides as well he's playing cat he's starting to throw some you know some Bullpen um you know recovering well through one two days ago recovered well from all all reports um balls coming out pretty clean starting to work on some spin um which would be another hurdle for him but yeah he's he's uh thankfully progressing in a positive direction both those guys this is an interesting road trip to start the second half um you know Cleveland Guardians have the the top record in the AL then Washington and we know how emotional that series when the Nationals were at Petco Park not that long ago and then Baltimore Orioles another first place team uh now your team has played well against some of these these good teams as well what are you kind of looking at out of the gates here to start the second half just play our brain of baseball you know make sure we're doing the the things the lead and give us the best chance to shaking hands into the game you know that's uh you know we're going to be together we're going to make sure that you know that's going to continue to get even stronger and make sure we're we're doing this as one team and then you know beyond that we're gonna you know we're going to throw strikes we're going to make routine plays and we're going to you know execute our offensive machine we're going to be good on the bases we're going to be good with our approaches and um you know we do that consistently will'll give us our best chance and that's that's the controllables for the most part I mean the team has something to say to it as well but you know we take care of of our responsibility that's uh that's all we can do so continue to make sure we we do that consistently well hard to believe there's only 63 games left uh even though it's just the All-Star break uh back to Cleveland make a short trip instead of a long trip which is why I'm sure not everybody came back to San Diego now it's probably more common on other teams where you don't like to spend All-Star breaks there's probably more guys who stay in San Diego and enjoy San Diego for the allstar break so they're like all the guys from Cleveland are all coming back to Cleveland trust from San Diego maybe I simply would have vacation in Cleveland if I was a San Diego Padre we're doing our All-Star break vacation in Cleveland has to be where we're going to play to start exactly right that's how deci I don't want to fly all the way back and then across the country again who was it that uh was planning the a Caribbean trip and then uh then they had the All-Star Game [Music] instead you get
