yo what's up guys this is D brown with trackhead I'd like to welcome you to another episode of trackhead so we are at the conclusion is officially the end of the 2024 Paris Olympics and we are currently two days removed a day or two removed depending on what side of the world that you're on and a lot of people are looking for the excitement a lot of people are are just like coming down from the excitement of watching their favorite track and field stars compete um I decided to make a top six list of my favorite uh track and field performances on The Distance side so I already did the Sprints the Sprints if you haven't seen them check it out this is officially for the distance side because um I'm not just a sprinter I'm not just a person that's been interested in the 124 100 meter hurdles 110 meter hurdles I've been interested in distance as well 800 1500 3K steeple chase 5K 10K Marathon everyone deserves some love so these are my uh and I think this year in particular this is when it's been like the most exciting most amount of crap talking most amount of like physicality most amount of just eye open eye opening jaw-dropping performances that we've seen in quite some time especially for the Americans the Americans usually have I don't want to say underperformed but they haven't performed to the standard of the Ethiopians the Kenyans the um a lot of the African countries a lot of the European countries are starting to be more competitive now which has been really really impressive so um I'm excited to get into it so my first uh top performance for distance would have to be of course Cole Hawker Mr Cole Hawker the American um originally from the University of Oregon right he came in here as if you looked at my predictions um he came in as a dark horse for me right because he's someone who I mean yes he won the Olympic uh trials for the United States but someone who always is very quiet very unassuming very under the the radar right um he's someone that has I want say he's been consistent he's been running fast but it's very hard because on the international level even though you can be competitive on the national level at the you know within your American um people that you compete against on the World level he's not someone that has been a top three finisher he's not someone that's been a top finisher Diamond leag he never I don't think he's ever won a diamond League um so he's someone that has been very very just sneakingly building up momentum building up momentum building up momentum and this year was the year that he did it this guy basically came through with the beef between Josh Kerr and and J yakob iner briten came through and finished like a a steam a freaking Flash and managed just to to rip a rip apart the gold medal from Josh Kerr right around his neck I mean that was one heck of a kick he's been known for his kicks for quite some time but I mean to he's hell of a kick I I believe he broke the Olympic record I mean it wasn't just like a sit and kick race it wasn't just a boss to the wall as I was watching the race unfold I was just looking at his position and I mean this race got out like like a steam you know it got out really really aggressive y Jacob yakob iner bris basically said we're going to test everyone's Fitness and there was some people that foolish enough to go with him I think it was a mistake for for Jacob uh for excuse me for uh for Josh Kerr to go with him I think he should have sat back and had confident and how fit he was um but I think yakob would have not focused on his plan if Josh wasn't there if he was looking back and Josh was all the way in the back I think he would have knew let me slow this thing down I think his main purpose was to get Josh out race it was basically two blls head butting each other and that little small bull that no one's thinking about hit that you know hit hit that gas and pass right by him so definitely a quality performance by Cole Hawker my second performance for the distance side would have to be Mr inle Briton um he won the 5K after that disappointing fourth place finish in the 1500 meter dash um 1500 meters not the dash 1500 meters um you know he came in came in with so much speed he came in with some you know pretty quality times um but it wasn't just his 5K performance and him winning that was the most impressive to me it was the fact that he finished in his last 600 in 1 minute and 19 seconds now I'm not sure if you know how fast that is but that is moving that means you have to assume if there's 30 seconds left more in the race that's a 149 you have to assume that if you can finish in 28 seconds is one you know 147 like you can really go down from there the fact that he was able to kick with 600 meters to go shows you how dangerous he was um and shows you how dangerous he is and I I think he's going to have a a one heck of a second half to the year when it comes to the track and field season because he's in tremendous shape I think he recovered from his injury pretty well um next person we have is faith kipon um you know she won in her 1500 she won three gold medals um from 2016 2021 or 2020 Tokyo Olympics and then of course the 2024 Paris Olympics which is something that has no one has ever done ever like ever everever ever ever ever no one has ever done that so the fact that a woman has done that really shows her dominance and she didn't do it in like the traditional sit and kick fashion she didn't do it being scared she ran that race um you know they she they ran that race um that Ethiopian young lady um I don't remember her name but she took it out really aggressive I mean 59 at the 400 203 202 at the at the at the 800 and and Faith was just in the cut chilling and still had enough strength to finish I mean this is someone who broke the 5K world record earlier in the year to really show the kind of Fitness that she's in um after dealing with I think some niggel and I don't know if she was injured but she had a very slow start to her season to open up the 5K with a world record and then to come here being able to finish that 1500 is really really impressive um so yeah that was my number three number four had to be yaavi so yaavi is someone who was in the 3K represents bar rain um originally from if I remember correctly she's originally from Kenya so just like the United States Kenya has a system where you have to kind of score top three or be selected or whatever their process is but basically it could be very hard to get out because there's so many so much talent um that you know sometimes at a young age you can develop but after if you if you always come in fourth fifth sixth there not really any development there and I think she's someone that has always been in that kind of middle pack to to almost getting selected or almost qualifying to to to represent that country but not really so she represents Bahrain and you could tell I remember watching her last year in Budapest and she was someone who was always in that top two three positions I mean she she did really well in Budapest and for her to come back this year and was able to kick off that last Steeple Chase and win the race I mean she was so excited she was dancing she was having a ball and I think it it it says something about the development of athletes when your Federation is not able to help you develop because it's so competitive sometimes it could be best to go to a different Federation if possible and compete and show like no I'm the best in the world if I get the chance to compete if I get the chance to to perform on the world stage and I think it it made that that that wind so much sweeter for her so definitely shout out to yaavi she killed it um number five had to be Grant fiser medling in the 5K and 10K so sometimes with me it's not just about who wins right um Grant Fisher was some was someone that I don't think anyone had on their particular radar um I did not watch the 10K I saw the finish of it though and I mean for him to get third place is in American um that's really really impressive I don't think we really have someone compete in a 10K like that and do well since uh I want to say gayen rup and no disrespect if I missed anybody but in terms of notable to me that has reached my radar gayen rup and that was a long time ago I'm like 2012 with moof far and that dynasty um that that was Nike um but for him I did see the 5K and I saw how aggressive um some of these moves were and it's really dope to see him on down the straightaway just good form very narrow arm swing and pump his way in those last 50 MERS all the way through to the Finish really really impressive stuff from Grant Fischer and for him to get two bronze medals I mean I don't even think his coach or himself would have thought that going into these Olympics they're going to walk away a double bronze medalist for distance events as an American beating all the African countries all the Kenyans Ethiopians all these all these Europeans yakob anger Briston being in the 5K I don't think they would have saw that I mean he would he he effectively hawked down damn near two three people that earn himself a medal that was really impressive um last but not least you know I was going to make this a top five but after I saw this performance on the last day I was like n son I got to put her in safan Hassan wins the marathon after the 5K and 10K um triple that she did so she ran the marathon the 5K and the 10K and just for you guys you know in the in Europe and some of these countries they do the they do the the meters and Kil kilometers and stuff for the Americans 5K is 3.1 mil 10K 6.2 miles marathon is 26.2 miles she ran three of those in a span of damn near like eight days or 10 days or something like that 5K has a prelim and final 10K I believe is just one race I want to say it's One race because it's long enough for it to be One race so she ran 6.2 6.2 that's 12.4 12.4 plus 26.2 that's 40 .4 miles that's ridiculous so the fact that she was able to run 40 miles for a week um at some of these Paces that are just crazy I mean 14 and some change for a 5k 10K she's she's she's killing it Marathon 2 hours and 22 minutes um and I'm not sure if you guys saw the video but I mean they were basically battling in that last you know quarter quarter mile 400 um of the marathon going into railings all this stuff like that I mean and for her to win the gold medal and kill it like that my hat goes off to her that's that's that's that's a great uh climax to an Olympic experience and she's someone that's been really really consistent in her running and and it's a fierce competitor so that's my top six for the distance and mid distance events for the Paris Olympic games um it was really dope to see um if you have different ones if you have different uh events that you saw that are distance that really showed up in your top five top three top two or top one drop them in the comments below but besides that guys this is dbrown with trackers I want to thank you guys for watching peace
