with two-time Super Bowl champ Bryant mcfaden former Louisiana Running Back Emy hunt BAC what' you think of this $20 million roster where Ohio State look real good look real good I'm not surprised this is what I expected I expected to see Ohio State find a way to uh explode in the scoreboard you know but looking at will Howard I think that was the biggest concern with Ohio State because they have pieces everywhere on their roster offensively and defensively but the one concern or question mark was what will they get out of will Howard in his first first start looked real good 228 yards three touchdowns very very efficient and smart with the football I love how they were able to run the football as well and I think that would be a issue moving forward which is could be a good issue when you look at junkins was the more coveted transfer that they got in from Old Miss but trayon Henderson I mean you can't forget about him and what he can do as a runner as well only six attempts I think today but he averaged almost a first down every time he touched the football so just imagine if he can get double digits uh when it comes to running the football how more how how much more explosive and balanced their offense could be but in all a great day for Buckey for the Bucky when you think about how they started the game they sputtered a little bit akan was giving them a little bit of a fight but then you saw them kind of lean on that Talent lean on that strength up front they figured it out toward the back end of the second quarter and into the third and fourth quarter and we saw how it just ended just the bottom just fell out but you like how guys work through their their issues it's week one so you expect to there to be some some you know some rush you have to shake off if you're Ohio State but you like the fact that they went out there found a way to get it done did what they were supposed to do and I feel like we still don't know much about will Howard based off the opponent but you like the stats that he put up because he was able to find his Groove toward the back end of the ball game and I like to say something about their defense now we've heard about how good this defense could be when you look at the pros the prospects they potentially have on the defense they they lived up to the building uh five sacks they forced three turnovers and actually scored a touchdown dick leau used to tell us every time all the time in our meeting room if your defense score a touchdown you have a 85% chance of winning those numbers always hold up to form well Ohio state has some dudes and one of those dudes is this dude will Howard who started six of 16 76 yards in a touchdown you're like I don't know is this is this guy going to be good for Ohio State what what are we going to make of it well he was 11 of 12 after that for 152 yards and two touchdowns leading the Buckey to a 52 to six Victory and for more let's get right to the site welcome at CBS sports college football analyst Gary Danielson who joins us from Columbus on the call from the shoe Ohio State shrugs off a slow start here Gary but overwhelms akan in the second half what did you make of this heralded $20 million roster in week one I think it's pretty meaningless now to tell you the truth but it's a great talking point about college football I get it I think what it means most is the game has changed uh transfers are part of the game and uh there is a transaction that has to be done when you get those transfers so I like who they got let's put it that way Caleb DS was all over the place like he was at Alabama I think Quin shot Judkins is going to give just enough of refs for trayon Henderson to be what he can be which is one of the best in the country and Seth mclin did a good job in the middle as a transfer they needed to plug that hole at Center they did and and then of course with Will Howard I think he was actually better than I thought I I I just didn't picture him being as good a passer as he is you know when he told Jenny you know his goal and and actually I read about this his goal was to be a first or second round pick I went ah you were about in the 200 300 rating but if he plays like this all year and the size he is he will definitely go in the first three rounds yeah Gary I'll be honest with you I I I scoffed when I heard that from will Howard as an Ohio State fan you know that I a buckeye fan uh from Ohio and and you you look at these guys and you compare them to the quarterbacks of pass go I don't know about this guy he's already talking about the draft how about you win game one first in a buckeye uniform what does it say about him the way that he responded after the first half because he wasn't as sharp in the first half he finished 11 of 12 for a couple of touchdowns yeah you know even though the way he started slow that was Jeremiah Smith who you know messed up a few of those plays had a drop on the other side I don't think it was Will Howard that started slow it was and understandably slow you know I mean you make those mistakes I by the way Jeremiah Smith came back did a pretty good job of who he was going to be what I think about will Howard is I think what you know coach said about him he's mature he's a leader he knows what's going around he doesn't have to be politically correct you know this is his fifth year he kind of says what he wants and hopes and you have to believe I mean a buckeye fan if you're in the hunt to win the national championship and will Howard plays like this most G most games he'll be in the hunt for the Heisman and I don't have any problem with anybody saying I want to compete for the Heisman because you know if you're quarterback on a championship team you'll be in the conversation at least oh you got to love his confidence and Gary I know you know a thing or two about the Big 10 former standout quarterback at Purdue you led the conference in passing back in 1971 what was it like to be back at the big house first full season of The Big 10 on CBS you know my career's been so blessed I started doing big 10 games with NES as we showed years ago had the transition into the SEC covered 13 national championships G there and now kind of wind up the career however this goes back here in stadiums where we started where I got to play pretty darn blessed I said the big house there and I and I'm going to throw myself a red card on that cuz I meant the shoe and you know what I meant that was probably the biggest sin of my career Gary because I just got so excited about the Michigan is the big house I just committed a sin all right that that we're going to we're going to clip that on Gary that's my fault cuz I can't believe I just said that that was week one I got to clean that up what are we doing dermish I was thinking yeah I'm going to call all my Buckeye fans and tell them to give you a call that all my buddies you you want to know what I'm thinking I'm already thinking about Ohio State beating Michigan okay at their place that's what I'm already thinking about cuz that's what matters and it's really Championship or bust I'm sorry Ohio State fans that was my fault I I I take that I'll take that on the chin Gary thank you appreciate keep me honest you got it rivalry game next % chance to make it this year Drew Aller putting on a clinic on the road against West Virginia he was out here throwing dimes Penn State has a new OC former Kansas OC Andy Colton Nikki and emry this is a a different looking offense in even game one what did you see from the nitty Lions offense welcome to the 21st century in terms of the passing game because what we saw is them pushing the ball intermediate to deep down the field and as long as the vertical passing game is in play it opens up things for those running backs to do damage like they did in this ball game as well and last year all we asked for was Drew Allen to Showcase that strong arm because we got teased a little bit when he came in against Purdue when uh the quarterback Sean uh Clifford got hurt he came in through two outstanding passes and it was like all right they got a guy next year when he show you know when he moves up Zone but you didn't let him throw the football last year you kind of put the cap on your own offense we saw that against Ohio State we saw that against Michigan now they're letting him throw and this is a dangerous Pinn State team because they got dudes everywhere yeah he has free range right now based on what we saw today he looks very very comfortable in this new offensive scheme and I I love how they work levels within the passing game which gives Drew Aller you know multiple options and he's able to execute he was able to execute and outside of the quarterback play just think about the balance they were able to Showcase because I felt like going to West West Virginia the hype the excitement going into that ball game this could be a potential trap-like game I love how Penn State answered the call and they did so in a dominant fashion led by Drew Alla they ran the football I think they had over 200 yards on the ground and that defense I have some concerns with the interior of their defense but the way they swarm to the football because West Virginia ran the football well in spurts in the first half remember West Virginia was a real good team running the football as well in the second half they had no answer for Penn State so this was a big win for James Franklin to kind of jump start this momentum to potentially get into the playoffs you know where Drew allers from by the way where my neck of the woods Cleveland I know he was a good guy it had to be I I will say this though about Penn State it would it impressed me because it is two and a half hour rain delay yeah yeah to come back out and pick up right where you left off Kicking It Up Up and yeah but you know James Franklin he There's No Nonsense right he he he he gets his kids locked in and I know in the past they had a rain delay and that and things went s South and you know sideways but no we we got to take care of business on in week one somebody else took care of business from one festar quarterback to another Nia okay you're gonna foree fore [Music] for fore speee fore speech [Music] [Music] got [Music] [Music] [Music] for [Music] [Music] for
