yo what's going on guys it's Houston Sports Talk Back another video today and to the Baltimore Ravens are signing Tyler Huntley uh bringing him back to the squad after Tyler Huntley left them for the Cleveland Browns in free agency and you know only one of the only reasons why Huntley was actually released by the Browns is just because they had a lot of quarterbacks in the QB room and for a minute it looked like they were going to keep four quarterbacks on the roster having DeShaun Watson uh as the starter and then his backups being jamus Winston Dorian Thompson Robinson and Tyler Huntley here was the big problem for the Cleveland Browns is really if you look at it arguably they they really had three backup quarterbacks um so they ended up releasing Tyler Huntley I don't think they wanted to get rid of Dorian Thompson Robinson and I think jamus Winston is that option for the Browns if Deshawn were to get hurt again so I really don't think they wanted to trade or cut him so Tyler Huntley was the odd man out for the Baltimore Ravens I got to say something about the Ravens quarterback room I don't know how people will take it but I think if you ask me if you if you look at all 30 NFL teams and you take out the starting quarterback so this is not including every 30 teams starting quarterback if you just look at the the the the quarterback depth or the just the quarterback room of the backup quarterback and the third string quarterback if you look at you know every team's backup and third string quarterbacks I think the Ravens got the weakest one now it's not that's not criticizing Lamar because he's not Lamar is on a backup Lamar is the starting quarterback he is a star I'm not I'm not I know a lot of Lamar has a lot of haters I'm not one of them um now I think there are some things LeBron I think there are some things as I almost said LeBron or maybe I did uh as I think there are some things that Lamar could improve his game on um and could work on to be a better quarterback uh maybe be a little bit better than the postseason yes for sure but I think Lamar Jackson's a great quarterback so I'm not criticizing him it's the guys that are behind him it's the guys that would be would come in if Lamar Jackson were to get injured uh look I never want to see a starting quarterback get injured no matter what team he plays in you know if it's a team I dislike or it's a division rival of my favorite teams or you know my favorite team the Houston Texans I don't want to see a quarterback get hurt but I will throw out the obviously Lamar Jackson has had health problems in his career uh in in for two straight Seasons uh 2023 was actually his first season in a while where he was healthy and he was good he was he was everything was fine with Lamar played 16 games he did miss one game but that one game was because they were resting their starters because they locked down the number one seed in the AFC um so played 16 games in 20123 had a great year he was an all pro he was a pro bowler team went 13 and three under Lamar he threw 307 for 457 with a completion percentage of 67 through 24 touchdowns throwing only seven interceptions uh 3,678 passing yards and also of course you know just kills it in the Run game um as well as we all know um and so yeah he was the MVP last year he was the he was he was fourth place in offensive player of the year he was first place in MVP being the MVP he was ninth place and comeback player of the year I don't think he really should have got that award so I think that was he was rid fine there and then of course he was a All Pro and a pro bowler last year in 2023 so he was great no complaints about Lamar but it's the guys that are backing up for him that that's for me that this what you know that's that that's the only problem I have with this with this quarterback room for the Ravens uh the quarterbacks that are backing up Lamar Jackson before before this signing before bringing back Tyler Huntley Josh Johnson who's been all all around the globe um within the NFL since 2009 uh he's played for Tampa Bay he's played for Cleveland he's played for Cincinnati he's played for Washington uh in 2019 2020 wasn't even in the league he's played for the Jets he's played for the Ravens he's played for the 49ers now 2022 we saw him play two games for the Ravens um actually we saw him com in into the NFC championship game he's actually he's actually a big reason why the NFL changed their rules he came into the NFC championship game in 2022 for injured Brock py through 7 for 13 with 74 passing yards and then got injured and then the 49ers had themselves two injured quarterbacks so with that being said um you know they they had two injured quarterbacks that's when the the rule changed to you have three quarterbacks on the active game day roster but in 2022 he you know he play he played two games but he didn't have any starts 2021 uh he actually did have his first start since 2018 funny enough with the Baltimore Ravens and in the one start the team lost he threw 28 for 40 throwing 304 passing yards two passing touchdowns and one interception and I believe he fumbled in that game as well um no no he didn't he didn't so uh just one interception thrown throwing two touchdown passes 304 yards 28 for 40 um 2018 he started three games for the com or or then the Washington Redskins um a couple years later we turn into the Washington football team now known as the Washington commanders but back then the Washington Redskins he played three game or four games three starts team went one and two he threw 52 for 91 which is a terrible completion percentage of 57% 590 passing yards three passing touchdowns throwing four interceptions um and outside of outside of the three starts with Washington the one start with Baltimore he's a guy that's only started five other games in his career and he only has one start with the Baltimore Ravens so um honestly if you ask me I'm not I'm just not a big Josh Johnson guy he was solid in the preseason through 20 for 30 uh throwing 200 uh it was like 20 yeah it was like 270 passing yards with two passing touchdowns looked pretty good in the preseason um but you know it's it's preseason and um most most of the games they played the other teams weren't playing their starters so it's not like he was going up against starters cuz I know they played the Falcons and they played the Eagles and the pre-season the Eagles or Falcons did not play their stars in the preseason I don't know who the I can't remember who their third matchup in the preseason was against but so you know he he was he was put up some solid numbers but it's not like he was going up against starters so imagine what he would potentially do if he's going 20 for 30 with 270 passing yards couple passing touchdowns in the preseason going up against other backups though that's good numbers that to me that's like a quarterback that's like a third string guy to me uh to be honest that's that I don't really I I'm not saying Josh Johnson's not a NFL quarterback I'm just saying Josh Johnson is not a backup quarterback he's more of a quarterback three practice squad quarterback than a quarterback two he is not he is not the backup quarterback you want to have for a two-time MVP who in 2023 uh or sorry sorry sorry sorry 2022 missed five games and Miss five games as well in 2021 you don't want to have a guy in Josh Johnson who he has nine career starts uh being in the league since 2009 and is more of like a qb3 practice squad type of quarterback um as the potential starting option for a MV two-time MVP quarterback who missed 10 games in the span of two seasons in 2021 and 2022 so um yeah I just don't see Josh Johnson as a as a good backup now if you're wondering Who's the qb3 who or who was the qb3 before this for the Baltimore Ravens that was Devin ly uh a draft pick or unsigned draft pick from Kentucky I watched a couple Kentucky games last year in college football I like Devon Le I liked what I saw from him but come on let's be honest is this a guy who's going to replace Lamar Jackson if Jackson went down no he's not Devon Larry threw 15 for 28 in the preseason throwing 95 passing yards with two interceptions no he's not a he's not a replacement for Lamar if he goes down those are not good options for Lamar Jackson as a backup or someone who was were to potentially take over if Lamar got injured now let's let's talk about the the right option and that is Lamar Jackson's formal back former backup Tyler Huntley last year Tyler Huntley had one start with the Baltimore Ravens in that one start the Ravens did lose the game to the Pittsburgh Steelers but he threw 21 for 37 throwing 23 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in 2022 Tyler Huntley started four games for the Baltimore Ravens uh did play a fifth game that Lamar Jackson got hurt in um that's how Lamar Jackson only played 12 games um and he uh went two and two as that's that's a good quarterback record for backup uh two team went two and two he threw 75 for 112 which is a completion percentage of 67 he threw 658 passing yards he did throw two passing touchdowns as well he did throw he did throw three interceptions but that's in four starts so that's not terrible um yes did he throw more interceptions by more interceptions and touchdowns yes he did but um you know but that was in four starts so uh you know he was he wasn't he wasn't getting a bunch of tou passing touchdowns his interception percent uh his interception percentage was 2.7 which is actually pretty solid um and also his rushing yards as he's a quarterback who can actually run the ball a little bit uh I feel like this would I feel like this would be more but it says 34 rushing yards um but um so yeah that's what he did in 2020 2 2021 he had four he had four starts with the Ravens team went one and three threw 122 for 188 keep in mind this was his first experience as a starting quarterback completion percentage 65% through 1,81 passing yards three passing touchdowns four interceptions with a total of 107 rushing yards so that that's that's what that that is what a backup quarterback is not what Josh Johnson has done not what Deon has done I think those are I think they're solid quarterbacks Devon Larry and Josh Johnson but they're not they're not good options as a backup quarterback for a two-time MVP who's missed 10 games in the last three years this is the guy who is the right option as the backup quarterback for Lamar Jackson the guy that's actually taken over twice for him in 2021 and in 2022 the guy that you can trust on the guy that's been with this offense before so I like the I like the addition for the Ravens if you ask me much better than Josh Johnson and and and Evan Larry and honestly I'd like to know everybody's opinion not we're just talking about weakest quarterback room if you look at every team all 30 teams quarterback two which is backup quarterback and quarterback three um so if you look at that the you know I I think the Ravens probably are the weakest having Josh Johnson and Devon ly not any more adding in Tyler Huntley um because I think he's a he's a great option as a backup for the Ravens as he is had starting experience with them before as he started total of eight games for the Ravens or sorry nine games in the Ravens n nine games for the Ravens in the last three seasons uh for Lamar Jackson whether it was Lamar Jackson being injured or last season Lamar resting in week 17 or week 18 so I like the signing for the Ravens let me know your thoughts in the comments section and peace out
