we're done you are going to love the interview we're going to have today with ESPN's Marty Smith I believe I mentioned to you yesterday that Marty was going to be on our show we're a fan of his work and frankly he brings a lot of really compelling Insight today because Smith recently had a chance this week to spend time with Carson Beck and Kirby smart and kind of the inner work of the Georgia program and he spills the tea on that here today we will hear from Marty Smith on that topic Mike Griffith as always there's a little bit of an interesting I would say butting controversy involving Trevor etn not the fact that he won't play on Saturday it seems obvious at this point he's likely not to but exactly why he isn't playing I think is a pretty fair question to ask we will try to ask that today and we'll await an answer if we get one and off the top you can draw a very sharp contrast right now what Kirby Smart is saying about getting ready for Clemson and what DB o Sweeney is saying and I think the difference makes a very very important distinction so we will talk about that off the top today so jam-packed so loaded and so ready to go glad you're here with us for it is dog Nation daily the daily podcast for Georgia Bulldogs fans presented by braa Pest Management and it begins right now today's episode of dog Nation daily is brought to you by braa Pest Management the official pest control of ug Athletics presented by dognation tocom this is dognation daily the daily podcast for Georgia Bulldogs fans here's your host Brandon Adams I was telling our video audience this a moment ago I'll tell the full audience now we are absolutely jam-packed in today's show before we're done an interview that I believe you're going to love with ESPN's Marty Smith uh really strong Insight from him a guy we've looked to on the show now for a while this is a great week to do that he had a really interesting inside look at the Georgia program this week he's going to give us details on that we told you for game week we'd be jamack with extra special guest I think we've delivered on that Marty Smith today that's before we're done also I think there's kind of an emerging controversy around the Georgia program as it relates to Trevor etn I'm going to give you the details as to why coming up in just a few minutes but to kick things off here today I think we would agree that Kirby Smart and dbos Sweeney just come across as very different coaches I Kirby Smart, Dabo Swinney share differing opinions would say I don't know if Kirby Smart would describe himself this way I believe he probably would I would say that Kirby Smart's very hard edged and I'd say dabos Sweeny in roundabout way is just sort of not he's a little more I don't know folksy and I want to be clear about something at the risk of kind of hurting my reputation with some of you the truth is I think I probably like dabos Sweeney a little bit more than some of y'all do just to be completely honest for you know a thousand Reasons uh I'm kind of glad that not every coach in college football is the exact same way selfishly I'm sort of glad that Kirby Smart is the way that he is because that's obviously producing a lot of wins for my favorite team but man if every single coach in college football was an exact carbon copy of Kirby Smart that'd be a lot of intensity right I mean like I'm s of I mean I'm not glad Clemson has won national championships but I'm sort of glad that because of the success that he's had validating him as a dude I'm sort of glad that a coach like dabos Sweeny can exist I'm glad that can be a template for Success much the same way Kirby Smart's template has been a you know a successful one for him I'm kind of glad Dabo exists I know a lot of you especially on game week don't want to hear that way but you know I'm forced to be candidate I'm forced to be honest that's my honest feeling I probably do do like Dabo a little bit more than some of you do however though I also have to tell you that even if I like Dabo Sweeney at Le at least a little bit even if I believe Dabo kind of comes across as sort of a genuine kind of a decent guy I have to admit even as someone who's kind of inclined to see the best in him I'm not quite so sure he's well positioned to fix what is wrong with Clemson and some of his personality traits may be perhaps part of the reason why I think I've sort of beat around the bush about this a little bit this week I don't expect Saturday's game to be closed I frankly don't think Clemson is good enough to keep it close against Georgia and I think at least in one way a pretty big difference between Kirby Smart and dbos Sweeney might be a little bit of a leading indicator as to where this game is going on Saturday so let me start with this last night Tuesday night Kirby Smart meets with the media and smart has a chance to talk about what he thinks the Clemson game means for his program the value in that and Kirby Smart gave the sort of answer that Kirby Smart sort of always gives to questions like this in no way shape or form is Kirby Smart whatever the opposite of eager is is is he unwilling to take on the challenge of playing a big game to begin the season it sounds like he and speaking on behalf of his players this entire team is more than ready for it this is what Kirby Smart said last night the schedule I mean to play quality opponent routes the the get Kirby Smart on playing Clemson go and when you get into conference play You're battle tested probably better than a team that maybe doesn't play that kind of matchup find out more about your team um it's great for the the fans you know that's the advantage great for recruiting exposure so Kirby Smart says man I love it for recruiting I love it for exposure I love being battle tested going into the T SEC basically he says you know to I guess use a phrase that's popular he wants that smoke right he wants to he wants to have him and his team in games like this and we know this is true not just because of that particular clip because smart says this kind of stuff all the time you come to a Georgia a place like Georgia to playing games like this and all the different things that smart has said over the years including being very aggressive aggressive from a scheduling stpoint getting ready to do stuff like that smart wants these type of games and he is not the least bit scared of looking across the field and seeing the Clemson Tigers it seems fair to wonder though does Clemson feel the same way it seems fair to wonder does dbos Sweeny feel the same way and at least one comment from dabos Sweeny this week would possibly suggest that maybe he and his Clemson Tigers are not quite as excited about playing Georgia as Georgia is about playing Clemson a sharp contrast being drawn between these two coaches you just heard Kirby Smart more than ready for the challenge is dbos Sweeny equally ready for this challenge well judge something he said this week about having to play a neutral sight game against a team like Georgia to begin the season even calling back on an old conversation he once had with Steve Spurrier around the idea of why do we got to play a game like this to begin the season does dbos sound ready this is him from this week I don't think we've Dabo Swinney on playing Georgia so early in the season had a home open open ER since 19 maybe um so and and then not only that I mean we you know you look around the country and you go boy it'd be nice to maybe have a little you know I remember I think I told y'all coach sper called me one time uh we both got beat in a in a um and matter of fact it was the Georgia game we played Georgia in 14 and he called me on that and I I think they played Tex A&M and just got boat RAC the whole game like all four quarters and has this classic experior uh still I still got the voicemail and and he he calls me and he's just like and then I call him back and he's just like yeah I don't know why we schedule these games I tell you I just don't know we go play we go play as team over here down the road get a little win everybody's happy get to work out some of them problems cuz you know there going to be some problems yeah I don't know why we schedule these games like this right out of the gate you know and he he says you know yeah but hey look I just calling you uh yeah look like y'all got your kick for you know one quarter uh we got ours kicked for four quarters but but hey just uh just wanted to tell you hey hey just keep your head up you know a long season ahead we'll keep we'll keep moving so maybe one of these days we'll have one of them one of them little openers we can we can uh we can make we we can make some mistakes and and still win and go get better but this ain't one of them you make mistakes in this one you get beat uh that's one thing I can say about geordan they don't make a lot of mistakes first of all of all the coaches on dog Nation daily I would have thought thought we would have had to bleep Davos swiy would not have been on my bingo card but nonetheless here we are having to bleep bleep him there because he's quoting Steve Spurrier but back to the topic at hand does dbos sound excited about coaching this game does he sound ready for this now I want to be fair and balanced I'm probably a little bit of a blowhard but hopefully not at the experience of the complete and total truth there was another moment in this press conference where Dabo you know said that listen we want to play a big non-conference game every year he said their scheduling template is in addition to their you know uh ACC schedule they want like an FCS program a decent group of five and you know a sort of a big boy non-con game so they he acknowledged that he also said at one point time the press conference he sort of wishes he played Georgia every year not because he likes playing Georgia but because the travel is closer than going to a place like LSU or somewhere like that which they do have coming up so fair and balance he also said those other things in this press conference but based on the full context of what you just heard does it really sound like he wants to play Georgia every year does it really sound like he wants to play Georgia this Saturday sounds to me like he'd rather be in Death Valley playing mcne state or some team like that certainly seems like based on the story he told from Steve sper they kind of lament having to play tough games like this and I think this is a difference that makes the distinction I you know I I think that that this is a difference that matters here because Georgia does just sort of embrace the hard thing in a way that not every program in college football does and maybe what I interpret as a little bit of a softer Edge at times around dabos Sweeny maybe that's also an example of him not quite embracing the the intensity that a game like this requires because not only in this spot does Dabo sound a good bit different than Kirby Smart frankly dbo Sweeny sounds a good bit different than Kirby Smart's players also last night there was a moment in which Malachi Starks was talking about the competition in the secondary and getting guys ready to play and some of these guys kind of getting ready to play in a spot they haven't really been in before you know it's sort of a relatively normal topic and yet I want you to listen to How intense like this is such a Georgia thing like this is the most basic question ever about hey you know are you ready to kind of watch some of these guys play I want you to listen to How like warlike and Malachi Stark's answer is to this in question to this question especially in lot of the fact that dbos Sweeny is wishing he was playing a group of five team or an FCS team back in Death Valley on Saturday I want you to listen to Malachi Starks talking about his fellow defens back it's not even like typically the most physical position on the field listen to Malachi Starks talking about his defensive backs once again drawing a contrast to Clemson here's Malachi you Malaki Starks on bleeding you put in the work in the preparation to prepare you uh for the moment and you know that's what you got to fall back on we like we say bleeding training so you don't bleed in battle and um you know we uh we work through the ups downs and stuff like that but I feel very confident so once again keep this in mind here Davos sw's like man me and spurry used to talk why we got to play these tough games to start the season and on the other side of this game Malachi Starks is talking about bleeding in practice saying we're going to try to bleed as much as we can in pract now I know that's a little bit of a figure of but nonetheless the basic text of what he just said was we're trying to bleed in practice so we're not bleeding during a game dav's like I didn't sign up for bleeding I don't want to bleed I don't want I don't want that George is trying to bleed during practice as as Malachi Starks talks about and you know as I said you know Dabo likes playing as he's admitted the big non-conference game every year along with a group of five and an FCS but gosh y'all compare that to Georgia from a few years ago kind of pre SEC expansion when Kirby was signing all those non-conference uh Arrangements including with Clemson Kirby was setting George up to play three power four opponents in addition to the SEC slate so you know this idea of we got to save ourselves for a group of five or an FCS that's not Kirby Smart's way of doing business and all of this I think matters now is there a chance this ends up being a false positive and Clemson is tougher on the field than we expect them to be maybe maybe it's at least a possibility I mean college football is notoriously difficult to predict of course but I also believe that success leaves Clues and I just think there is some sort of indication about what a team is going into a game like this and y'all I got to ask you as objective as I'm capable of being which is probably not as objective as others are capable of being but as I'm as objective as I am capable of being do you see any proof anywhere that Clemson's ready for this do you see any proof anywhere that Clemson wants this as bad as Georgia does is Clemson bleeding during practice is Clemson taking on that kind of uh intensity ahead of a game like this I'm honestly not sure if they are but I know Georgia is now that hasn't always guaranteed Georgia victories after all we've seen Georgia lose before we saw Georgia a year ago play close with a bunch of opponents they probably didn't have much business playing close with so could this game also be closer than the experts think and could it be a further example of what we had perhaps saw a year ago which is hey Georgia just not quite as dominant as it was in the totality of the 2021 and 2022 Seasons all that's a possibility of course all that's a possibility I'm not here to sort of pump up something Beyond you know what's what can be guaranteed of course that's the case but we're also in the business of making predictions and I'm sorry all the evidence I have would lead me to believe that George is just more ready for this more ready for it than it would have been to start the 2021 season the last time these two teams played and certainly more ready than Clemson is for this right now I just believe Georgia wants it more wants to be here more knows what what the cost of of of competing at this level really is I just think that Georgia is more ready and I don't expect this game to be closed on Saturday my name's Brandon Adams and this is dog Nation daily the daily podcast for Georgia Bulldogs fans presented today by Bray dep pest maner we're happy you're with us no matter how you get to us today live on video across all platforms 10: a.m. radio anth sports radio 963 have podcasts wherever you find them including the world famous dog nation.com we're glad you're here also thanks to our friends at bra Pest Management who make it all possible the official Pest Control provider of ug Athletics if we were in Sanford Stadium on Saturday we would know that the venue we were in and we're not going to be there but if we were there on Saturday it's termite free it's bug it's Critter free it's protected by our friends at Brad Pest Management that same piece of mind that we'll get next Saturday when Georgia takes on Tennessee Tech uh what are they the Eagles that what they are are they the Eagles maybe Brady P manager can keep the Eagles out there as well either way um the same piece of mind we get knowing that Sanford Stadium is well protected you can get that for your own home there as well here's what I love listen I talk all the time about how the cost of service is going up for a lot of these Fly by Night termite companies but one of the things that if Matt Brady was sitting here right now one of the things he'd tell you is is that in some of these cases the quality of service is going down too and I mean in the termite protection industry it used to just be a tradition and breakout knows all about the tradition been in business since 1975 but it used to be a tradition of course the person that's coming to treat your house for termites is coming inside the house and coming outside the house because listen if you've got termites inside your house that's the biggest problem obviously of all but now a lot of these companies are not coming inside the house anymore and at Brad pass management they're looking around saying well not only can we give you better service for a better price we're to come both inside and outside your house because it's the ones on the inside that matter that's what BR pest man is all about so make the switch to BR get better service for a better price put more money back in your pocket just for making the switch online braap pest.com bed braap pest.com for more on that today all right we've obviously got a lot going on with dog na Invasion I'm going to tell you more about that here in a little bit uh we'll do that with Mike Griffith here coming up in a moment also as I told you great interview later on today with ESP ESPN's Marty Smith jam packed here on a Wednesday on on our program and prior to any of that let's also get ready to go around the dogghouse here today presented by our friends at Georgia F Bureau and we have what I would believe is a little bit of a minor controversy and this is a question that we're probably not going to get an answer to but I still think it's fair to ask it so let's walk through a couple of things here for a moment most Georgia fans because listen everybody my self included we've all got that one or two or three four people in our live who kind of know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody I'm always amazed at how rich some of the people who listen and watch the show are like very moneyed welltoo types well of course you're going to the booster stuff and you're attending the practices and you're close to the program like some of y'all are just made of money I mean I'm not mad at you I'm impressed with you some of y'all are doing very well for yourself and I love that and so therefore you travel in different circles than some of the rest of us probably do and so you know you hear these things and you relay what you hear and so the chatter from people who know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody is that Trevor etan's probably not going to play on Saturday and I think that most of us you know kind of you know I'm try to take myself too seriously for most of us if it's not an official report but it's a pretty consistent rumor I think most of us sort of assume that if the rumor is consistent enough it's probably true um you know we're not you know we're not verifying this can't confirm this with two sources but if we just keep hearing the same thing from enough people the odds are it's probably true so I think that most of us are probably of the belief that based on the prevailing chatter that's out there the Trevor etn is probably not going to play we did though I believe this week and I believe this happened maybe yesterday I think it was yesterday we did get the Pete Thamel on Etienne first official report that indeed etn will not play in the game I'm going to show you this in the screen this comes from from Athlon Sports Athlon not the official reporter here they're simply relaying the message that you know Pete THL from ESPN he was in the show called college football live I was not watching the show but I did see some of the news reports about it famel goes on college football live as quoted by Athlon Sports here saying the headline is that Trevor etn is facing a one game suspension famel says he got arrested in March on DUI charges under Georgia athletic department policy he is expected to miss one game so there you go to my knowledge thill is the only one to officially report that etn is not playing in the game but then th goes on to say according to University policy he has to miss because of the DUI charge now I don't know if Fel just doesn't know this or what but etn has pled down to a lesser charge etn according to the court of law is not guilty of DUI which sort of leads to the next thing here THL out in front he's got the report I'm here to tell you I can tell you my sources have confirmed me that etn won't play but based on my simple understanding of the situation while faml reports that he gets at least one pretty basic fact wrong about the DUI although that's what he was originally arrested on suspicion of but he also perhaps gets another basic fact wrong here too in that it's dictated by University policy University policy says cannot play because of the arrest from you know however long ago and so therefore he's not going to and so this is where the controversy I think gets a little juicier here because you got family reporting that etn won't play perhaps erroneously as to why go to the Atlanta Journal Constitution here for a moment uh the AJC uh putting out here this week that according to the ug Athletics code of conduct which is available for download on the school website the possession charge because that's what etn got sort of downg to it was DUI less safe to begin with my presumption is because he was obviously you know some alcohol content to his blood but under the legal limit yet he was also under the age of 21 so he gets that pled down the possessed in charge while operating a vehicle stands as a level two violation of the Bulldog student athlete regulations regarding alcohol use but while that requires six months probation and completion of the athletic Department's Alcohol and Other Drug education program the AJC reports it does not include a mandated suspension from competition a DUI conviction would have so let me lay out what I think is interesting here it's not the question of will etn play it seems obvious that he probably won't let me say a different word it seems likely that he won't play here's the more interesting question exactly why is it that etn isn't playing is it as the AJC suggest a situation where the actual stated policy does not prohibit etn from playing if that's the case then who's making this decision is Kirby Smart making this decision against the stated policy is someone telling Kirby Smart this is what he needs to do and if somebody above Kirby Smart is saying this to Kirby Smart on what basis are they doing that if the policy doesn't quired now there are also lots of examples or at least there are some examples of Kirby holding a player out from a game even when the university policy didn't demand it smart we would believe has done that before when it comes to suspension so if smart did of his own free will keep etn out of this game even though the policy didn't demand it it's worth pointing out this would not be the first time that's happened but if I'm Trevor etn I want to know this exactly why am I not playing what is the reason reason I'm not playing is it solely a PR related thing is there something more going on here than that um is it true that the policy doesn't require it seems obvious from the AJC who's reporting that's the case you know this is one of those deals where you know Kirby's obviously I would say well within his rights not to talk about this kind of stuff but here is where I think those of us who are fans we do lose a little something when smart doesn't say more about this kind of thing because this is a situation of not is he going to play or not I've already told you I don't think this game is going to be close I don't think Georgia needs Trevor etn to um you know to beat Clemson but the wheels that are turning that has led this to happen are they solely being manipulated by smart is someone controlling Georgia above Smart's head and all this I think those are fair questions to ask although I wouldn't hold your breath for an answer now one more thing before we uh get going Mike Griffith here as far as what Georgia will be at the running back position maybe likely possibly probably without Trev going back to Monday Kirby Smart did talk about what that running back rotation might look like not mentioning a lot of names here obviously but still seemingly feeling okay about the position this is smart for Kirby on RB rotation Monday yeah really excited about the backs we got the the guys have worked really hard um they continue to grow and get better um you know Rod's toe is uh still an issue for him but I mean anytime you go into a new season you're like you know what do I have you don't really know what you have like that's why it's so critical in our spring to go out and play our spring game like it's a game because it's the first version of your new s and then you go through the scrimmages which we've had two and you try to figure out the best version of yourself in those scrimmages because those are preseason games in the NFL terms and I felt really comfortable with where our uh our back field is in those games and and doing a good job I mean in Georgia we don't like say okay let's start all over there's these guys that have been in our program that have been picking up stunts blitzes that our defense runs we do two spot walkthroughs where they're getting to pick things up so there's a lot of uh guys that had a lot of reps uh doing those things that that hopefully uh have great game Saturday so we will see what the Georgia running back situation looks like as smart said no matter who plays it seems like Georgia may be well positioned to still be pretty effective there on the ground and that is around the doghouse presented today by our friends at Georgia Farm Bureau and I love Georgia Farm Bureau because of what they do for our audience these are folks who are dedicated to the state of Georgia and listen I'm talking about around the world the thing that Georgia in addition to college football may be the most famous for of the great tasting foods that get put on the plates of families all across the world really because of the farmers the agricultural community that exists right here in Georgia and obviously Georgia Farm Bureau is famous for supporting those folks for a long time but they also want to offer support to all of us there as well whether we're Farmers or not and that's through the tremendous Insurance products that they also make available there too you got a lot of choic as to who you would choose to use for your insurance needs especially your auto insurance for instance why not work with a company that's here in Georgia that are that's made up of Georgians taking care of other Georgians that's what Georgia Farm beer was all about so my invitation to you is to kind of find out why it is that Georgia Farm Bureau is always the home team give them a call 877 44150 that's 877 44150 you can also find them online gfb insurance.com for your auto insurance needs your home insurance needs obviously that's a big thing here right now a lot of folks getting new homes things like that life insurance if you want that there as well our friends at Georgia Farm Bure got you covered for it all and they are part of around the doghouse here today and we are really happy about all of that so good stuff there Georgia Farm be are bringing around the dog house here to us jam-packed on a Wednesday it's ESPN's Marty Smith later on strong stuff from him here today uh little bit of an interesting uh topic out there as relates to Arch Manning we'll get to some of that here before we're all said and done there as well but for now the status of Trevor etn what Georgia looks like in its preparations for Clemson let's cover all of that ground and so much more Mike gri here today dog Nation daily presented by BR best [Music] manager from aens and across the SEC or wherever the recruiting Trail may lead here's a dog.com Insider I want to bring in Mike Griffith on the topic we were just discussing Mike uh I guess it's Mike Griffith on rumor of Trevor Etienne being suspended it's it's been long speculated now I guess there's some official reporting out there too that Trevor etn will not play on Saturday for Georgia is that your belief is it far more likely than not that etn even if he is in a uniform will not play for Georgia is that where you are on this right now yeah I thought you captured it accurately ba I I think this is uh some questions about who's making the decision I would tell you I think it's above Kirby Smart's head I would also tell you I think you said PR I would I would say Optics I think because of the number of uh off field incidents involving driving I feel like Georgia needs to make a public stance and and I think that's wrong because all we've heard from Kirby Smart in Georgia and Josh Brooks is that these cases need to be taken on a case-by casee basis and doing what's best for the student athlete this is maybe one of the first times that I feel like the university is putting itself and its image at what I believe is fair if you're going to get into a kid's pocket for five-digit fines which is unprecedented I think we're looking at Double Jeopardy and I don't like the presedent this sets I think georg's got a chance to make a statement and stand behind the action that they've taken with finding players and announcing that they're finding players there's not another University that's made that announcement that's been that bold that's been that proactive I think Georgia needs to stand behind their action and stand behind the stance that Kirby Smart took in Dallas uh again that was a very bold and proactive stance it will certainly be used against georgean recruiting uh at the same time I would suggest it's been an effective stance now it's a very small window but to my knowledge Brandon since Dallas since that announcement has been made I'm not aware of any uh driving offenses certainly not nothing flagrant I think it's wrong to punish the team the donors the fan base uh for the sake of Optics of the administration we know Georg is trying to solve this they can stand behind their actions they've shown us the extent that they've gone to to educate players to follow up with players to bring in State Police to bring in local authorities they've done everything they can at the University level and now they've gone beyond with public statements on finding players at that heavy amounts if this is turning into an NFL game which nil has brought that element to us then I think penalties that are similar to The N uh are are what's appropriate further uh etn has had his day in court and whether you agree or not with the charges being dropped they or being excuse me not dropped but lowered from the DUI uh that's what the judge decided and sometimes the judge decides against Georgia players and everyone has to live with the results and sometimes the Georgia players get the same sort of lenience or second chances that the general public gets in this case I think Georgia's taken all the proper action I think suspending etn is over the top I think it's double jeopardy and I don't think it's a good precedent to set at all um and I'm disappointed right now if that turns out to be the decision um I think it's a decision that the university is making for Optics and not In fairness to the player yeah I mean here's what it kind of comes down to for me and listen if I talk along enough about this kind of stuff I'd make everybody mad because the truth is in my personal life I'm in favor of aggressive policing of aggressive driving I'm in favor of that I'm not necessarily someone who thinks that football coaches should be the judge jury and executioner about stuff like this I put more of that on the legal system and law enforcement that that's sort of an opinion that kind of makes everybody mad at least in you know one respect so I'm not going to talk much more about that but what I'll say about this situation in particular or a situation like this if I'm Trevor etn I think I'm well within my rights to say I don't want to be punished because of something that somebody else did in other words there has been obviously a long list of infractions involving Georgia players so my punishment needs to be more harsh than otherwise would be because of something some other play that maybe I didn't even meet you know did before I even got here if I'm the etn camp I think I'm well within my rights to say listen I to be punished on the basis of what I did and University policy seems to According to some reporting that's out there from the Atlanta Journal Constitution give some guidelines for that but if I'm being punished because of something that something happened you know years ago or or or last year or whatever else you know if I'm the ET in Camp here on this I think I'm within my rights not be very happy about that yeah I think you're right this is something George will get past and I know that you said you're comfortable that Georgia will win the game without etn but you and I have watched a lot of football side by side in these press boxes and we never would have dreamed that 2019 South Carolina loss would have happened and and by All rights if they played this game 20 times Georgia probably wins 17 of them but this does create a problem because it's compounded by an injury in the back field of Rod Robins and so now we have some questions with Branson Robinson's Health maybe not physically but mentally we know it's hard to come back mentally from a KNE injury we watched zamir white work his way back from that he was not the same Zeus that he was uh 10 games into his comeback we know that Nate Frasier is incredibly talented he played at the highest level of high school football in the Trinity league in Southern California we also know he's dropped passes and fumbled in scrimmages and he's a true freshman who didn't even have the benefit of spring camp or the gday game we know that cash Jones is is an exemplary walk-on and a tough kid we also knows that he doesn't have the size to take on a future NFL linebacker at 240 pounds on a blitz and they'll be limited the Playbook will be different this will not be an optimal situation for Georgia without etn and the reason that they're punishing him again in my opinion and you read out the university policy is sheer Optics and I think you're absolutely right that etn is paying a heavy price for things that happened in the program before he even came so let's shift gears to the game itself then as you said and listen like I'm trying not to be blowhard because obviously I've been wrong before so Previewing UGA-Clemson let's try to diagnose this prior to the game if I'm wrong about this Mike why will I be wrong like what what perhaps does Clemson have going for it that I'm not fully giving a credit for or what perhaps could trip up Georgia in addition to you know you just mentioned some of the depth at running back in addition to that you know what's the counternarrative to what I think as a two touchdown favorite is an even more convincing win for Georgia than even that would suggest and and and to your point I still think that that is the most likely scenario to be clear but Kirby Smart identified it at the beginning of his press conference last night and he talked about staying ahead of the change and not getting into third Downs as you know uh an effective Run game keeps you ahead of the chains the ability to get the 46 yards on first down on the ground keeps Clemson out of those situations where they can play man and bring extra pressure from different areas uh I think Todd monin called it run past conflict that's what you want to do as an offense you want to be in second and five or second and four where the defense doesn't know if you're running or passing you want to be in third and two where you have options and the way to do that is with an effective Run game Clemson has I believe one of the top five front sevens in college football now there are some questions in this secondary and we'll get to that in a second but that front seven as good as the Georgia offensive line is if there's not a back that can break a tackle at the second level Georgia could find itself behind the chains and that could put Carson back in some third and long situations now we know that makoni and Bowers are gone and I know the fan base is tired of hearing that but I reflect back on the SEC Championship game when those two incredible players were less than 100% And as good as Dyan Bell is he has trouble getting separation or he has in the past as explosive as Aron Smith is he's not been the most consistent guy outside of his ability to catch the Deep ball and I love Dominic love it I think he's the go-to guy but I'm not sure what he really gives you after the catch so the Georgia pass game is still a bit of a question not Carson back I think he's incredible I think he's an NFL quarterback that's playing college football this year but I still have some questions about the margin for error that he'll be afforded thrown to this I wouldn't call it uh revamped but I would say the returning receiving Corp we don't really know what Kobe Young's going to bring we're not really sure about Benjamin urasc yet although we're very optimistic we do know Oscar Delp is very solid and we know that Georgia has many options but I dial it back to Georgia's ability to run the ball effectively on first down is one of the things that concerns me about their ability to put Clemson away with the ease that that that you and I think is more likely but maybe not as likely with Trevor etn out and Rod Robinson out so I think you're bringing up some interesting points I want to go through some of that here a little bit and I think the point you make about Dylan Bell is an interesting one and admittedly this is maybe too favorable of a comparison but when it comes to Bell not creating separation I would sort of agree with that I don't see him running away from guys and yet George Pickins did not run away from guys in a Georgia uniform either in fact when Pickins was in high school he ran sort of a very surprisingly slow 40 times the truth is maybe he just didn't care uh but he was not like BL amazing speed for a receiver that for the most part was Unstoppable like when Pickins wanted to when he was fully healthy when he was fully engaged like Pickins was not getting stopped and he wasn't really doing that by creating the kind of Separation that like say Arian Smith is capable of doing because of his incredible speed so I'm not saying that Dylan Bell's the next George pickings that would be an unfair you know label to try to put on him but there is a little bit of a template out there for if I'm strong enough I don't have to run past you I can just body you up I can be a basketball player and post you up you know that is sort of My Hope for Dylan Bell you know let Aran Smith be the Speedster let Dominic love it be the kind of like sort of Shifty lateral quickness guy a little bit like sometimes what lad makoni sort of was uh and let Dylan Bell I mean Bell did play running back Bell looks like a running back just be stronger than your opponent get in front of them create you know create space that way to me if you want to do the most favorable kind of Outlook from why this could really be a true breakout season for Dylan Bell even more so than last year was you know that's where it is you know be the version of George Pickins that says I don't have to run past you to dominate you and you know maybe Bell could be sort of a sort of a lowc calorie version of of that maybe yeah that's a fair comp you know George was also a running back in high school I agree with you I think they're both Sensational after the catch I I'm not ready and I don't think you are either to say that that Dylan has shown the catch rate I I don't know many I don't know if there's another receiver in the NFL that has the catch R catch radius of of George Pickins uh Bell is blooming and who knows maybe it will be a breakout season this is a guy who does have thousand yard potential and as accurate as I felt JT Daniels was on the tear he was on with Pickins uh at the end of the 20120 season I think Carson Beck is even better so I want to make clear that I also think this offensive line is better uh than we've probably seen since the Andrew Thomas uh days so there's a lot of reasons to be optimistic and and I I don't like you know people oh with gloom and do I I'm merely stating and restating the concerns that Kirby Smart has shared about this matchup it is a matchup game um also fans will be glad to know Clemson secondary is very questionable um Georgia receivers may be good enough to take advantage of those guys all night long we also know that Mike Bobo and Carson back are very effective in the short passing game and Kirby Smart considers those if uh what did he say extended handoffs you could see some tight end screens to osic or loss and lucky or Oscar Del you could see those quick passes to love it and runs after the catch to exploit a Clemson secondary that's questionable so I play out all the scenarios I still think it's highly likely Georgia wins this game I said 17 out of 20 heck maybe even nine out of 10 but I always allow for a margin for error an early turnover a special teams play an explosive play that could change the momentum in this game we've seen that happen before and uh I suppose on the etn front you know that uh I'm proud probably one of the people that's been bigger on him than than most from the onset I I think this is a difference making Dynamic player that can lead Georgia to a National Championship uh I really would have liked to have seen him play for him and his family against his brother school I think this is a high-profile game and uh I think this is a lot of embarrassment uh for etn I feel like he's already paid the price out of his pocket uh he's certainly been in in the headlines plenty of times he's gone through the court system and uh I guess I would close just by saying I'm I'm with you uh I think that that Georgia should should apply the same rules to him uh on a case-by Case basis as they've told as many times as they have others so I feel good about this game just be clear I think Georg is going to win this game but this just Narrows the margin for error a little bit because of the lack of experienced healthy depth in the back field if you got time I want to squeeze in one more question for you let me also do this remind folks it's last call now for the big dognation Invasion event on Saturday dognation docomo event taking place just steps from Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday the dog Nation Invasion t-shirt the all-inclusive tailgate which is like the the the food you eat the beverages that you drink we're breakfast themed because the early start it's going to be an incredible experience all of our dog Nation Invasion events this year uh powered by our friends at Atlanta Sports trips I love them doing great work they've helped us make this an outstanding tailgate experience on Saturday we want you to be a part of it dognation docomo wait and I mean cannot wait to see all of you at Mercedes Benz Stadium on Saturday my blood is boiling at the thought of what a day this as going to be and if you want to get your event started even earlier how about the VIP experience my friends that discovered done what he still some space left to have that luxury experience the night before the game staying at a wonderful hotel right here in the Dunwoody area the high at Place Perimeter Center then the next day while everybody else is schlepping in traffic and fighting for a parking space you're taking a Luxury Motor Coach right to the tailgate you'll go to the game obviously and then pop back on the bus after that heading back here to Dun Woody you got the dog Nation evasion uh tailgate t-shirt uh tickets get the t-shirt and the swag bag from our friends at Atlanta Sports strips get more information on that ATL sport strips.com that is ATL sport strips.com for more on that all right my M thanks for hanging out through all of that let me get one more question to you and I'm obviously always very thankful for your time on the subject of Georgia defense here for a moment I think last year we saw some of the slow starts that Georgia got off to offensively some of that was about you know new quarterback not really quite knowing what you had some of that was also clock rules and you know limited possessions and you know things of that nature let me tell you one of the things I'm looking for on Saturday against one of the strengths for Clemson moff is a good running back uh we don't know how good the Clemson offensive line is but for a Georgia defense that had some vulnerability against the run a year ago can they bow up get off the field would if you're a Georgia fan wouldn't a couple of three and- outs be nice here on Saturday finding a way to limit that Clemson rushing attack on first down put a quarterback that I'm not sure Clemson trusts and Kade kumnick in Long situations on third down and really getting off the field you know it's such a dominant performance for Georgia defensively when these two teams played in 2021 maybe not quite the same thing on Saturday but I tell you a couple of three and outs would certainly be nice limiting that Clemson Run game in the process no doubt about it and that's the game plan and and this is where you need Nair stack house and Warren Brinson to show what they've been working on for this past year there's a reason these guys came back and Georgia is really going to need these two to step up we know that Jordan Hall I think you and I were both kind of hoping he would Blossom a former festar going into his third year very unfortunate uh broken tibia he's out we know that Xavier McLoud the guy that looks great in a uniform really hoping that he would find stride he's had an abdominal strain uh so now you're looking for you know Kristen and Jamal Jarrett to step up in that defensive tackle rotation to your point that makes the three and outs all the more Paramount because we do know that the depth that the defensive tackle position is not optimal and Brandon here's the thing every school has this problem this is a byproduct of nil those quality backups that would normally be there and you can reflect back on the SEC Championship game and wonder to yourself if tresman Marshall's transfer might have ultimately swayed the difference in that game with what he did at Alabama and how Georgia was exploited with a freshman at that position but the bottom line is everybody is fighting the same battles everyone is going to have depth issues at different positions because these talented kids rather than sticking around being quality backups as Juniors they're starting somewhere else um I suppose if you could pick a place I I don't know that it would be defensive line but uh I do think that Kristen Miller and and uh Jamal Jared are ready to step up Michel Williams is going to be huge in this game we've talked a lot about him he's a hybrid player you know 65 265 he can Lin up at end he can lined up at tackle he can line up at outside linebacker it's going to be really interesting to watch the chess match I feel so much better about the linebacking core and CJ Allen I believe CJ is going to be a household name I really like what this young man's all about uh and and the secondary is strong the player the player that I Circle Brandon and maybe it's not fair but I felt like ta Smith last year was probably the most underrated player in the SEC he was George's most productive defensive back he was assignment sound he was tough as Nails we're asking jonel Aguero to step in as a true sophomore and take over that role it's hard for me to believe there won't be a little bit of drop off at the start of the season but what you just can't have is breakdowns and explosive plays so to your point that ability to stop the run to avoid that runp pass conflict that keeps Georgia guessing at Clemson is going to be Paramount because the secondary while very talented is very green and if Clemson can get into an effective Run game to set up the play action pass that would increase the chances of secondary breakdowns until these young guys can grow the good news is Kirby these teams get better as they go most teams get worse as they go because of attrition and they don't have quality depth it's just the opposite with Georgia they play so many guys they get better every week Georg is a much more dangerous team at the end of the year we saw that last year with that tear they went on when they just dominated old miss everybody just knew Lane kein would come in here and upset him and the dog sent them home with a butt whiping they just got so good I almost feel like they Peak too soon last year right this team will get better to me this Clemson game it's all about survival and I think you're right I think the line of scrimmage George's ability to run the ball somehow effectively regardless who's in there Paramount conversely stop the Clemson Run game put that quarterback in down and distance if you get him in down and distance you're going to get the blowout that you're calling for Mike great stuff thanks for being here we'll look forward to reading plenty more from you at Dog nation.com throughout this week we'll see you on Friday on the dog Nation video channels for go with the flow making our picks with our friends from Dari payro RS Andrews there on that so have a great week Mike and I'll also see you in mercedesbenz Stadium on Saturday all right thanks for having me on Brandon good stuff [Music] let's take a look around the rest of the League this is SEC through interesting look there at the end on the Georgia defense where they have a chance to do on Saturday going to be a ton of fun now let's get ready to go cruising around the SEC courtesy of Royal Caribbean and obviously we enjoy the fall we enjoy the football season we enjoy all of that and yet we also enjoy those times of year when you can kind of get away get on board a Royal Caribbean cruise vacation you know the cool thing about the Georgia schedule this year is got a couple of different off weeks always that sort of pre Florida date because of the sort of scheduling anomaly of the calendar this year if you're going to do that our friends at Utopia of the Seas that could be the best option of all for you obviously each and every one of those itineraries on board Utopia the Seas they're all going also emailer J Slater at dream vacations.com she'll get you set up and she will get you going on all of that we're only a couple of minutes away here from a really fun conversation ESPN's Marty Smith strong stuff on a behind the scenes look at the University of Georgia he got private conversation with Carson backck kby smart other figures on the program ESPN's Marty Smith going to tell us all about that coming up in just a minute I also thought this was Is Auburn the most overrated program? interesting Brett McMurphy you know him he used to be on ESPN he's worked for I think CBS long time at ESPN he now works the Action Network he's a rider still and he had an interesting premise for a piece looking at where you start in the preseason AP poll compared to where you finished only the playoff era which dates back to 2014 is it a surprise to you to find out that the team that has the most overrated over that span where you start compared to where you finish in the last 10 years would it surprise you to find out that Auburn's number one on that list probably not it certainly seems true our lived experience would suggest that especially early years the playoff era they are number one on this list if you care other SEC teams are here there as well A&M is fourth that also feels very very true and real based on recent years alone LSU is fifth I was a little bit surprised about that being in LSU fan pretty weird right because you've had three straight coaches that won national championships obviously Ojon before that last miles before that Nick Sabin but you've also had to like fire those coaches at least in the case of miles and oraron you had one of the worst follow-ups to a national championship anyone's ever had in 2020 it's a lot of ups and downs to being LSU fans seems like a kind of a strange existence perhaps that's one of the reasons why LSU fans themselves are so strange new SEC teams both Texas and Oklahoma on this list as well coming at 6 and 8 so SEC teams not always doing too well when it comes to living up to their preseason expectations I do think this may be the last year we get a chance to talk about Auburn in this vein though they may be pretty good by next year seems like they're spending big bringing in Talent hu Frey is obviously trying to do that we may be talking a good bit more about Oregon this time I should say Auburn this time of year from now we may be doing that I saw where Steve sarkeesian the Texas coach speaking of the Steve Sarkisian dodges question about Arch Manning Longhorns was asked if Arch Manning was going to play in the season opener he sort of sidestep the question you know he going to go Arch Manning in the game and they're playing just some nobody on Saturday and it's Colorado State and he's you know I we'll see I don't know I find this to be kind of interesting I told you yesterday that we'll obviously as we move throughout the rest of the week do plenty on Tex A&M and Notre Dame and Florida and Miami and game of that nature the other games have their own reason to be interesting and seeing how much Arch Manning does play for Texas on Saturday is I think a pretty curious thing because what sarkeesian could have said here is of course he's going to play we've got a plan to get both these quarterbacks in the game and we've seen some coaches say that before that's not what he said which at least based on lip service would lead you to believe that for now anyway they want to treat Manning like a typical backup let's watch and see if that does happen in a game like this Texas highly ranked taking on Colorado State typical backup would mean not playing till the second half not playing until the game is well out of hand if Manning though plays in The Red Zone in the first half or maybe in the first quarter that's not what a typical backup does so let's see how Manning is used by Steve sarkeesian on Saturday maybe if they have a bigger plan for him a bigger package of plays maybe they don't put that on display in this game but seeing how Manning is used is probably worth paying attention to and then finally and briefly let me just say this many of you perhaps have seen the Connor stallions documentary that's Netflix’s Michigan football doc with Connor Stallions creates buzz debuted on Netflix I think the overall takeaway here is is that not only did stallions cheat Michigan knew it was cheating and the sort of old age question of what did you know and when did you know it it seems like Michigan knew for a while what stallions was doing and seems like Michigan was more than happy to benefit from sort of the extra Behavior sign stealing whatnot that stallion was a part of so let me just give you one quick word here and then we'll move on pay attention to what media types say about all of this there's room to criticize here but who is it that gets criticized the safest thing to do is to point your eye toward stallions and some national writer types sort of you know National types they're going to do that they're going to go hard after stallions because stallions is powerless and can't do anything to them but will they go hard after Michigan because if you're a media type and you do that if you point the finger of blame at the Wolverines there's a potential blowback coming your way for that or do you point the finger at the Big 10 for not taking action on Michigan during the season very few media members will have the guts to actually do that because once again that's a powerful entity that can make you pay if you push him too hard and certainly you know no one's going to go after you know the system itself obviously not wanting to punish Michigan for what seems like even at the time time obvious and easily recognizable wrongdoing so watch the response to all of this as more details come out of course Michigan knew of course the big 10 knew Michigan knew but nobody wanted to do anything about it at the time and that to me seems like it's the real story and that is cruising around the SEC courtesy of Royal Caribbean now before we hear from ESPN's Marty Smith fun interview let me also give you a quick reminder here that our friends at Dr Pepper got a lot of great stuff going going on as we get ready for the college football season after all it's fansville time of year commercials are back but Dr Pepper is also back for you as well so as you're shopping and getting ready for game day put the Great Taste of Dr Pepper in the cooler 4 game day because to me when I'm watching college football Dr Pepper is always a big part of that I know it is for you there as well let me also give you this as a reminder today around the state of Georgia a couple of fun opportunities for you to see the Dr Pepper college national championship trophy there as well so enjoy some Dr Pepper but also check out the national championship trophy at a couple of cool locations here around the state of Georgia today and with that said let's bring on Marty Smith and hero dog Nation daily presented by BR Pest Management happy to ESPN's Marty Smith joins the show have from ESPN Marty Smith you see him on TV all the time perhaps you're on the radio there as well doing a great job Marty we're a fan of your work it's great to have you here on dog Nation daily today before we're done we'll also hear about an interesting Venture that you're a part of but glad to get a chance to talk some college football with you as well always grateful to spend time with you guys thank you so much for having me and I'll tell you what I was in Athens on Tuesday I had a 30 minute conversation with Carson Beck sat down with Kirby sat down with Jaylen and um they are ready to go they're ready to hit hit hit players that aren't wearing red yeah exactly at this point in time you sort of get tired of some of the training camp stuff and things like that but that's one of the things to me that's probably most fascinating to me about your job is is that you do get a little bit of a different vantage point because of your relationship with ESPN of course it's different than some of the rest of us get there as well I mean would you mind talking a little bit more about the mood that you did find in Athens because this is obviously a little bit of a different start to a season than the last couple have been because Georgia didn't win the national championship last year and presumably at least based on what Kirby Smart has said already over the course of the spring and summer maybe a little bit of a different extra Edge because of that would you mind telling us a little bit more about what you did find when you had a chance to spend some time around Georgia here this week I would call it um I would call it intentionally composed intensity and that's both from that that's from everybody with whom I spoke and that includes the great Tate rattled in his mullet uh but there's a different there's a different energy and the reason is they feel like they let one get away losing to Alabama in the SEC championship and I asked all four of the individuals with whom I spoke while I was down there this week how that setback and that pin drop quiet in the locker room after and the acknowledgment of the fact that they failed shapes this preseason and shapes the intensity with which they will attack this year and all of them gave me the same Kirby Smart answer we started every year I don't buy it they had they might have had the best team in America last year and because they didn't execute properly against Alabama in mercedesbenz stadium where they will play against Clemson on Saturday and then we're left out of the college football playoff I believe had they been in the college football playoff it would have been held to pay for some opponents and um I know that that that is something that's driving them no matter what they may tell me on camera and there was a unique like Kirby when I was chatting with Kirby he had that kind of intense thousand yards stare through you body language that told me they just can't wait to get between the lines that he loves his football team that he's tired of talking and ready to put hats on hats and I know he loves his team and it's great for them that they have this Marquee matchup off the top against a team that's been a bit of a traditional rival for them right up the street in Clemson MH in that building I loved my conversation with Carson because this is a guy who's overcome a lot as all of your Watchers and listeners know very well but a lot of national college football fans don't know the value of patience in his journey and now here he is entering a season where the expectation is Paramount on him from the word go there's no growing into the role he's the guy and you can see how he's wearing it and he's wearing it very confidently when you look at Kirby Smart's position in the sport right now you know none of us are as young as we were in 2016 he's kind of the veteran coach now there's no Nick Sabin anymore and yet the landscape ap's also more challenging deeper SEC longer playoff what do you make of where Kirby stands position compared to other coaches other programs in the sport right now well there aren't many who have multiple national championships to start all right and the hardest thing to do is not grow it yes it's hard to shift a culture which he did do from the time he took the helm his culture is very unique I think he is the best in the country at in an nil transfer portal not how you going to develop me coach it's how much you going to pay me coach era he's the best at at sustaining G over everything I think in the country now there are some other coaches that are good at that but I think Kirby's the best and because he's so good at sending great players to the NFL look Brock Bowers and lad makoni were injured all year last year look at them now yeah and so I do believe that he is the best in the country at that but it's very hard to do and um the way he sustained it and continued to evolve it also fascinate me when he got to Georgia he was a micromanager when he got to Georgia he had to have his fingerprints on every single thing and as he's learned to delegate responsibility to the people that he's charged with Excellence he's become a better football coach and the program has grown as a result just because they didn't win the national championship last year doesn't mean they fell off because they didn't fall off and I think they're the best team in the country right now we'll see if I'm right I'm not good at prognostication but I believe has the best team in America with the most depth before we hear a word about a really cool thing that you're a part of right now kind of a creative way to help College fans raise money for their favorite programs let me also get a quick thought from you on the other side on Saturday when George and Clemson played to start the 2021 season Clemson was the favorite in that game obviously that's tremendously changed going into this game but how much how far do you think Clemson has fallen off from the team that was parentally in the playoffs from 2015 through 2020 also won a couple of national champ ships how different is this version of that program right now I don't think it's that different uh I think that they had generational quarterbacks with DeShawn Watson and Trevor Lawrence they won national championships they had great defenses which they have again this year I know you've watched a lot of tape and and have probably done a lot of interviews about that defense they're going to be good um I think people see the stubbornness with which dbo is addressing the portal and nil and all those things uh and it's created a certain narrative uh he's still winning a lot of games now I think that they I personally this is my opinion I think they handed a couple games away last year or we may not be having this conversation but I'm picking them to win their league and they're going to be good now I think on paper what I'm looking at I like Georgia more but I like Clemson I like Dabo I love his conviction for doing it the way he's doing it but a lot of Clemson fans are getting restless and Dabo will tell you that that is the embarrassment of riches that comes with that success you win a couple national championships in dominant fashion with all those guys that he sent to the NFL at every position that starts to become the expectation and so that's kind of where Clemson is right now but um I'll be fascinated to see once we actually someday have some parameters with nil in the portal which I look forward to very much um kind of what it is but he is sustaining a very good program despite whatever the narrative may be if people tune in to college game day on Saturday they may see some TV commercials for a new Venture called Game Change and obviously we're in an era in which I think folks are trying to be as creative as they can for raising money for their favorite programs across all sports not just football the one we've been talking the most about game changers the company that you have a relationship with and you're kind of acting as a little bit of a spokesman for them so for people who are trying to kind of make sense of what this is and kind of what opportunity this going to create to kind of turn I guess the fundraising opportunity here into a little bit of a competition something that I guess all fans love what can you tell us about your new Venture with Game Change here I appreciate you ask and and grateful to be a part of their new Venture all you it's really easy all you do is go to gogame change.com you input the information for whatever credit or debit card you so choose you choose your favorite University your favorite college team and then every single purchase with that that uh respective credit card or debit card automatically rounds up you know how if you're going to the grocery store now they ask you do you want to round up it will automatically round up and that difference of of the change goes directly to the athletic department that you chose on gogame change.com it's a very easy way to donate to the universities that you love and bolster the athletic departments financially and it's a charitable donation so you can use it as a write-off and it's just a really cool way for everybody not a lot of us have millions of dollars to put our names on buildings and there is a lot of donor fatigue right now by the way among those who can do that and it's just a really easy way for all of us to contribute to the universities we love and there might be some folks watching here that love ug but you also might love valasa State okay you might love Georgia state that might be your Alma moer schools like that need the money I went to Radford University and I've been really worried how are we going to this story so Duvall says of course Stevens is his you know given name I live in Jacksonville I have a huge tailgate party of about 100 people every year for Georgia Florida I'm a nurse and 90% of the people I work with are Florida fans I've worn Georgia gear at a minimum of work every Friday this year I've got something on uh Georgia related every day at work even if it's just my socks in late November of 2020 I had brain surgery at the University of Florida RS Andrews Cool Down Health System there in Gainesville due the Vaas agreement with with UF Health my brain surgeon was a UF grad now listen to this this is a great story so having brain surgery being done by a Florida grad uh she's a Florida fan of course but she loves to see me coming in in my Georgia gear I showed up for brain surgery in full Georgia Gear with a Florida Gator doing the surgery there on that first of all what a great spirit from Duval doog there about uh pretty significant Health Challenge uh but obviously in this particular case we'll be thankful for these Gators we won't call these Gators lousy stinking Gators for helping take care or everybody do V dog down there in the Jacksonville area uh Corey uh good stuff on that and I I love the story of even down there enemy territory always wearing the Georgia gear even on his way to a pretty serious uh surgery so very very good stuff Duval dog thanks for sharing that story and we will give you a golden shoe for that here today I I love that coming via email from Dual dog there lousy stinking Gators the ones on the field will have a little bit of a problem with the ones that are taking care of fellow dogs uh will be okay with them but the ones in the football field will remind you 1390 days that's how long it's been since Florida has beaten Georgia that is our Gator hater updat or youall have a great day we'll see you back here tomorrow dog Nation daily presented by braa past management and on video time now for the RS Andrews cool down RS Andrews one you turn two for your air conditioning heating Plumbing and Electric needs they show up on time they do the work that's promised the price that's promised you can trust RS Andrews on all that you can tell we are into the season here cuz that was a marathon's worth of a show big one for us tomorrow too Terence Edwards making a triumphant return to the program how excited are we about that have not had Terren on the show in a little while but he is back just in time for game week tomorrow cannot wait for that I tell you the response a lot of folks really miss Terence of course you would imagine they would Terrence heard about all that and he wanted to be here for all of his fellow dog people that's good stuff and Jake from going to be the program tomorrow we'll talk to Jake about a lot of things related to the Georgia Clemson game but also we'll celebrate the fact that Jake from had a remarkable preseason performance with the Detroit Lions and got a lot of Praise from Dan Campbell for it we talked to you about that earlier this week so that is the story tomorrow it's like another full jam-packed show uh my gosh and then on Friday for this portion of the show we have a special treat for you there as well something we've never done before but we are going to do here for that so that should be a lot of fun too so all of that is going on and now we'll jump in here we'll get your comments I'm gonna start on dog nation.com here for a minute um uh let's see what else let's see what else DT says he thinks that Marty Smith read the uh uh Georgia players right and Kirby Smart there as well he says I believe the dogs ready to get after it we'll certainly see you that's the case um Brookie says if you push Michigan too hard they're going to stop giving you interviews oh wait Colorado already did that I mean there is definitely a sense in which and I just being honest here as honest as I'm capable of is that the real power in college athletics Big Time athletic directors major programs Michigan certainly one of those League officials conference level officials you don't see a lot of the famous National Rider types ever trying to take them down a peg like you know you don't have to look very hard to like find some sort of columnist for Sports Illustrated or somewhere like that CBS you know whatever you know they'll just fire off some missive you know really taking Conor stallan to task you know this disgraceful figure blah blah blah truth is Conor St is probably not a good guy probably not um but he's also completely powerful I mean he's kicked out he'll never be around again he you know he his professional career has been destroyed by what he was doing so I would suggest beating up someone who's essentially powerless is a total waste of time but should Michigan have done more to self- investigate and yes self-impose penalties when obvious wrongdoing was discovered we got a situation in which you know George on Saturday May keep a running back out of a game even though University policy doesn't demand they do that they're doing it presumably because somebody somewhere thinks it's the right thing whether you disagree with it or not that's a standard Georgia trying to hold itself to it did Michigan hold itself to any kind of standard when it came to what is just Garden variety cheating like base level cheating doesn't appear that they did and was there ever any thought that the Big 10 would take any of this seriously at all doesn't seem to be uh you know much of a situation of that the college ball playoff selection committee one point time last year came out and said H we're not worried about this and all the you know National Rider types dutifully just sort of you know took that down and took their new marching orders and just went with it um very little actual questioning of actual power when it comes to College athletics can't help but notice that um Ken hul says Michigan should give the national title back themselves if it was a different school I don't believe I'd be saying this quite so much but some of us got a little gray in our hair we've been around for a little little bit how many times over the course of our lifetime have we heard Michigan I'm talking about their fans their alumni going on and on about how prestigious they are oh we're so serious about books and academics and you know we're not some football Factory like you rednecks down south we're we're we're about more than that well this was your chance this was your chance to show it it certainly appears that Michigan was about more than winning right up until the point they could do some actual winning and then at that point in time they weren't quite about that as much anymore good to see Ryan Walker in the comment section today he says this will be a statement game for the dogs back 285 yards three touchdowns for Nate Frasier no I'm sorry three touchdowns for be Nate Frasier 150 yards and a touchdown also three receptions for 80 yards and our defense going to have seven sacks two interceptions a force fumble final score 30 510 against the toothless tiger strong stuff from Ryan you love that by the way seven sacks that's what Georgia had in 2021 right I mean that's not an unheard of number in this particular case on Facebook for a moment let's see what folks are saying there Mike Melle says I got more gray than I need yeah I was telling this to uh I think it was our producer Cody so yesterday we you know were talking I was like there's a moment I think I may have told y'all this um like two summers ago where I saw cuz when you do a show every day like um there's a lot of lighting in here you probably don't realize in on camera how much lighting there is in the room and so when I look kind of funny or when I don't feel like I look my best I can always blame it on the lighting well this lighting is Harsh lighting is tough in here then I saw a picture of me in just sort of a normal situation my hair looks so gray all a sudden I realized that's not the lighting it's just how I look this is just the way that I look now that was eye opening um one of those deals where it was the Hemingway line about slowly then suddenly my hair was like sort of going gray slowly and then boom suddenly it was just gray but listen I am what I am uh K hul thank you for the kind words it's fun having Marty on the show today uh let's see what else I can't fber says Auburn's a trap game he says Texas plays Oklahoma the week before they play us and we have to play Auburn the week after Bama it's interesting that's an interesting thing to watch out for obviously it was Clos it was supposed to be a year ago uh Auburn typically a very different team away from Jordan here stadium that game in Athens here this year um I would say that when it I told you earlier in 2025 I expect Auburn to be much improved I would say that's a team this year I don't feel like I have a great handle on the Freshman receiver is going to probably be really good I I think you Cam Coleman I think you've got a pretty strong indication of that but beyond that they still bring back Payton Thorn at quarterback it's a little bit hard to know exactly what they're about here this year let's see what else um so Malcolm children says the Eagles have released uh Kendall Milton you hate to hear that I guess what dejon Edwards was released by the Steelers is that right so best of luck for them to kind of find um new NFL homes Heath fold says that I'm vain I do have to admit is that I mean obviously you know I just sort of try to keep it casual and hopefully I have a reputation for not taking myself too seriously but it is hard to look at yourself on a screen every day and not get a little bit Vain about that it's just hard um what's the old country song it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way I'm the exact opposite of that but you know it's like I've staring to the camera and then right next the camera is the Monitor and obviously TV on Fridays things like that you know you do think about how you look and you always have that voice inside your head that's sort of telling yourself the worst about yourself um it's hard not to get a little bit Vain about that kind of stuff it is uh I'm embarrassed by that I'm not proud of that but it is true um let's see what's going on on YouTube here for a moment um let's see what else Jonathan Aon says um oh so Louis SE got cut I hate to hear that Jonathan Aon says I'm GNA take a I'm gonna get some ory day shoe polish for my beard and stuff yeah I think unlike day now I think conventionally he's probably considered more handsome than me probably but um uh unlike day I'm just going to stay natural I think at this point in time I am what I am um I think that's probably the case Zebulon Owen ready for the dogs to shut Dabo up I like that I like that a lot uh Kad checks in to predicted uh cash Jones get eight to 10 gets 8 to 10 carries for 60 to 80 yards this cash f this is good I like this line he says does cash finally get the credit for being a solid back for the dogs nice play on words there for sure um see what else Brian Jordan thank you for the con wordss I appreciate that uh let's see what else uh sin hotl about Brock I guess this is Brock Bowers he's a little thinner on top right you know the lettu US not providing full coverage necessarily but if you're Brock Bowers you don't have to worry about that um Morgan Forest says hair is overrated I think for a lot of people that's probably true uh sin also saying that Georgia practices very hard we're going to have guys hurt from time to time not their fault yeah I mean the trade-off here is is that you could have less perceived risk for injury and be less prepared for the games and when it comes to injuries I'm almost sold and this is one of those things it's a little bit of a I don't know sort of everybody's got their sort of like pet issues it's one of the things that drive me crazy is that when an injury occurs there's this like Superstition that takes over and I don't just mean I mean with college football in general there's this like Superstition that occurs of everybody sort of wants to find something to blame the injury on y injuries are just a function of just the sort of natural good and bad luck that just sort of plops up for anybody and you can always seemingly trace it back to something but you know you could have a physical practice and get no one hurt and then you're going to have you know somebody have a non-c contct knee injury in the midst of just a stretching drill like stuff like that just occurs so I always think it's funny when and every program does this um you know Alabama has done this Auburn has done this media around those programs have done this you know it's like injuries happen we're going to blame somebody for it the strength coach or whatever else like I am not into stuff like that I am not into stuff like that um Spencer Clark says we cannot underestimate Clemson the good news is while I may be guilty of doing that I may look like a fool if the game plays out different you know the Georgia coaches Georgia players they're not going to do this you know even if they were to hear me this week many of them obviously tuned in um they're they're not going to listen to me on this at all because Kirby Smart won't let them um so yeah that's that's all there is to it on that U dog bro wondering if the dogs bring out the black jerseys here this year I mean that Black Friday night game against Georgia tag it seems about perfect right and I know Kirby didn't want to and I'm not I'm not even talking about from like the motivation employ standpoint because we all know that's the kind of thing that just doesn't seem to work very well for Georgia but from a fashion statement standpoint it'd be cool right it'd be cool um I mean I think if tech were worse Georgia might wear them if they're good enough that it seems like a decentish game they probably won't to be honest with you there's just a there is a negative stigma around the black Jersey and that's all there is to it if the stigma didn't exist Georgia May wear them half the time but because the stigma exists and Alabama who Kirby Smart worked forth the time was somewhat responsible for creating that stigma it's a hard thing to shake you can't deny stigma um I've said many times I don't really believe in the concept of public relations necessarily but a stigma is probably real uh like you know I was going to give it an analogy but that's G to take the conversation in a different place than I wanted to get point is is like you know a negative stigma when you encounter one and the black jerseys have that uh speaking of uh um uh Ryan Day Austin ask if he's on the hot seat Austin I believe he probably is or at least he certainly will be if they lose to Michigan again uh Brandon Griffin checking out the tell you ride film fesal I told you some of y'all live very interesting very sophisticated lives this is this is fascinating Brandon says I saw an old m flag at one of the campsites I put on my G hat and casually rode by on my bike whistling there you go Brandon much like we our golden shoe winner today representing the G down there in enemy territory showing off that g to some folks Mo Miss tell you see him in November that's uh good stuff that's good stuff um all right quick final comments where it go K Dog yeah the uh the Georgia Georgia tag game is not a Saturday this year it's a Black Friday night day after Thanksgiving it's got it lose my battery wrap up uh Scott Harris uh says that Kirby's not going to use the black jerseys never does regardless of how much people talk about it that is true when they wore them in 2016 for the Louisiana Lafayette game they said they're GNA wear them every year and they just didn't it's is one of those things that even when he said they're going to they actually still haven't uh that is true uh let's see what else K dog says why is everybody so high on Oregon you know I think one of the things that Dan lanning's probably done is sort of acquire Talent transfer portal and recruiting as well as anybody in America probably not named Kirby Smart like I mean and keep in mind for all the chat out there about an Ohio State national championship they have to go on the road to Oregon that's one of the most interesting games of the Season here coming up uh and Roger Hall by the way speaking of Oregon you know Oregon was in still a pretty good run in the 2022 season but Georgia completely throttled him and that's what Roger Hall thinks going to happen on Saturday and I'm inclined to believe Roger on that Antoine Middleton also pointing out the Georgia did wear black in 2020 yeah that was the dog collar black I didn't like that quite as much but they wore those for Mississippi State they wore them for the bowl game too right didn't they wear those now the red like 1980 Throwbacks they wore against Arkansas I wish they'd bring those back and I'm old enough to remember when they still wore red on the road not in 1980 but years after that I don't think as a child I liked the men as much as I like them now I guess that's just Nostalgia for you but something about that black block number um something about that black block number with the white background on the red that's a sharp look man that's a sharp look uh Robert Hosea says I put my big Power G flag on my porch and I get nothing but death stairs on the occasional curse word I just wave and say go dogs that's right as Kirby Smart once said you just point to the scoreboard and laugh Robert that's good stuff I appreciate that I appreciate that uh I may start like a legal fund uh for uh people whose uh HOAs give them GED for their Georgia Flags they may start like a a legal fund to help protect some of those people um Octavius Oliver yeah reminding us that Georgia also wore those black jerseys for that bowl gaming in Cincinnati appreciate that all right final comments Scott Harris saying that Dan Lanning at Oregon definitely an upgrade over where Mario Cristobal was I would agree with that um Bob fossil saying I'll be safe to say I'll be a huge duck fan when Ohio State plays them I agree with you on that too pretty fun to for landing for the most part as long as he's not competing against Georgia and against Ohio state that will be especially true there that day um Aaron Dixon says can't wait to watch Clemson against our new center yeah I mean I think a lot of people Ian this is a huge difference for me between Clemson and Georgia the fact that Georgia can just sort of bring on a new cator like Jared Wilson expect him to be one of the best in the country that's something right now that we don't think Clon really all that capable of doing um all right we're get ready to go for right now good stuff long show but we appreciate
