and then we get into each team's schedule a lot of people saying Texas has a cupcake schedule going into the SEC I'll get John's thoughts on that after the breakers you are locked on Sooners your daily podcast on the Oklahoma Sooners part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day all right John so you know like I said looking at Texas schedule a lot of people think it's very very favorable for the Longhorns going into year one in the SEC and you know I proud myself on being truthful on this podcast and I have to agree right you know Texas certainly got a huge break on the schedule when you look at it compared to some other you know SEC teams like Oklahoma schedule or Florida schedule this year right Texas is definitely not sweating bullets like you know maybe some fans of those teams so when you look at the Texas schedule uh what are your thoughts on it you know going into I mean I think it is favorable and I think I appreciate your honesty and I appreciate your forthrightness there that that you're willing to admit that but here's the thing about schedules is you really don't know what it's going to look like until you get through the schedule to be honest like Oklahoma schedule right now looks tough Texas's look favorable but who knows where these teams could turn out to be and what you know a team like Mississippi State could end up being in year one under Jeff leby I I get Mississippi state has not been a good program that's not a team that you're expecting to contend for an SEC title but they have have an offense that could make things interesting let's just say that Texas should win that game no doubt but they're going to have an offense that again should make some things interesting and I know before we you know scoff at the Blake shapen thing listen he is an experienced quarterback that's capable of doing the simple things well uh but I look at the I look at Texas's schedule and I think it really comes down to four games I think it comes down to the trip to Ann Arbor against Michigan again not the same Michigan team that was last year yes they're the the defending national champions that's not the same team uh it obviously U Texas is always going to be the game on the schedule no matter what other games are on the schedule OU Texas is going to be the one that gets everybody gassed up and fired up for it and listen I think that's going to be another Classic this year then you've got Georgia you know visiting Austin that's going to be a phenomenal matchup with a phenomenal atmosphere probably a college game day atmosphere uh and then I think you got two more on this one you got Florida coming to Austin which listen I know Florida we're scoffing at the Billy naier era it's not gone well for the for the Gators but he's recruited fairly well and they're gonna be battle tested at that point so going to Austin isn't G to be some like shock to them they're gonna have played in some really tough games to that point and then obviously Texas Texas A&M the game that everybody's been itching to get back on the schedule for a decade except for agie fans that is or Aggie administrators so I I think those are the games that are going to really determine what Texas's season looks like and hey they could go four- one in those games Five-0 I mean I I think they'll probably go around three and two but I think listen the sky is the limits but I think there's a great chance that Texas has a good season because of of how they play in those games yeah no you you you know hit the nail on the head like you really don't know until you uh you know see these teams on the field I think Kentucky you know as a team that you didn't mention that could be a lot better you know a lot of Texas fans are pencin in a win there that could be a very tough you know exactly you know former fivar we'll see right if the magic can come out um you know but yeah Texas A&M on the road Arkansas on the road you know you don't know you know what really happens until you get into those type of environments and then you mentioned Michigan that's still one of the best defenses in the country you know um and then you know Oklahoma and Georgia so when I look at the Oklahoma schedule right this Ved schedule that I mentioned in the last segment it's tough right I'm G just go game by game Temple I'm giving you all a win of course right hopefully don't have a Texas A&M Appalachian State uh situation there Houston in week two uh yeah I think that's G to be a win for Oklahoma two lane you know uh definitely been a tough team over the last couple of years but Oklahoma uh at home should take care of them this is where it gets interesting number 15 Tennessee I'm not as high on Tennessee uh as everybody else seems to be you know especially when I talk about Jackson Arnold I can't make the argument you know even though you know niiko yamala didn't turn the ball over four times against Iowa you know what I mean he's still going into his second start as well right so you know not as high on Tennessee even at number 15 I'm giving Oklahoma a win there so I got you all starting you know off four and0 then at Auburn I saw Zack the other day unlocked on Auburn said that the Oklahoma game will be Auburn's biggest win of the year do think that could be a tough game at Auburn but I'm giving you all the win so I got Oklahoma starting off five and up right Texas Red River you don't even know what I have to put obviously a loss right so have you losing in Red River five and one beating South Carolina right this is where it gets interesting at Old Miss I just think that game is going to be too tough on the road I think Old Miss is going to be a juggernaut this year um quarterback and coaching matchup right now I would give to Old Miss and I think that determines the game so I have that as a l Maine as a win at 11 Missouri right I know that outside of Texas this is the game that all sooner fans are chopping at the bit for same thing you know you mentioned it last segment or I think in the first segment Missouri is getting a lot of credit for doing it one time can they do it two years in a row so I have Oklahoma winning that game Alabama comes to town I have that as a loss number five team in the country and then at LSU one of the toughest places to play coaching and quarterback matchup right now this may be my hot take I'm taking Garrett nus Meer over Jackson Arnold and Brian Kelly over Brent Venable so I have the Oklahoma Sooners at eight and four but some people would say that Tennessee game could be a loss for Oklahoma some people would say at Auburn could be a loss for Oklahoma so you know or Missouri could be a loss for Oklahoma so I gave you know the sooner credit you know like you said it's a program that always figures it out right and we did see big strides last year from Brent venables but I could also see why some people would look at this schedule and say seven and five or six- six would be reasonable because it's a gaunlet right what do you think yeah I think you probably hit the nail on the head there you know there's going to be a game that they lose that they probably shouldn't and then but I think there's going to be a game that they win that people don't expect them to win I like Oklahoma in their home games even against Tennessee and against Alabama you know that that road trip to Baton Rouge I don't care who the quarterback is you're going to Baton Rouge you're probably playing at night weird things happen it gets crazy so I'm not super stoked about picking that one later in the season I I don't love it um and then yeah that trip to Oxford is gonna be tough I mean Jackson Dart is a really really good quarterback I think he is one of the underrated Heisman picks I don't think he's getting enough love and then yeah Lane kin's a really really good coach and I think they' made enough transfer additions on the defense side of the ball that it's going to create a lot of problems for Oklahoma's offense uh you know the Auburn game it's it's going to be one of those weird ones because you're going into a BigTime Road environment uh for the Sooners but what's Auburn gonna be this year I mean this is a team that lost to New Mexico State last year so are we are we so sure that Auburn is so much improved that they're that that's going to make up the talent difference and that the environment is going to make up the talent difference between Oklahoma and Auburn I'm not so sure so I I feel com I feel comfortable comfortable in that one and then yeah the Red River Showdown I mean that's a coin flip you know it doesn't matter if it's the Kyler Murray Texas or Oklahoma Sooners that are one of the best teams with the best offenses in the nation or if it's last year when it was Texas and Quin ERS that were one of the better teams in the nation like that game is going to come down to you know a few possessions here and there and you you throw everything else out the window because it's just going to be a great game regardless and I think that's what makes it the best rivalry game in college football yeah absolutely so you know when you look at it whether Texas is overhyped or properly hyped you know whether Oklahoma is underrated or properly rated I think sooner fans and Texas fans have a ton of reasons to be excited uh this season and you know John and John I think we make a great team even though we're on opposite sides of the Red River and I look forward to you know doing this crossover again in about six weeks when it really matters leading up to that game in the Cotton Bowl thank you all for tuning in to another lock on crossover Jan Davis from locked on Longhorns John Williams from locked on Sooners part
