[Music] what [Music] welcome welcome welcome to the kickoff edition of the 2024 Notre Dame football season postgame show I am Vince stario that guy over there that's Trevor Trowbridge that guy down there we're doing this like uh Partridge fan or no Brady Bunch style that guy down there is Shawn Davis that guy down there is Ryan Roberts and the gang's all here the boss man will be here a little bit later boys I look these late night shows are a little bit easier to uh digest when we have a final drive the way Notre Dame had a final drive okay uh obviously Notre Dame wins this game 23-13 they get the double digigit win I've been telling people for weeks ah Notre Dame's gonna win this thing by double digits not exactly how I saw it going down though not gonna lie to you uh but I mean look there were mistakes there were good things there were bad things most of the mistakes are correctable you know and we'll get into the details and all of those things uh but huge first win for Notre Dame on the road SEC everything everybody's been saying right they were the road dog you know coming into this game right they were not favored to win this game was it plus three pretty much all the way around once the ball was finally put in the air and they went down there one by double digits I mean no no matter you know Notre Dame is seven Texas A&M 20 you know all of these different things we all thought that Notre Dame should win this game no doubt about it but it was looking hairy there for quite a while but they ended up doing their thing so way we're going to do the postgame show this year boys is is we're gonna kind ofh when we kick this thing off everybody's gonna kind of get a chance to just air it out and so that's what we're gonna start this thing off with and I'm gonna I'm Gonna Let The Rook start it off Trevor because you know we're gonna have a long show because that's what we do on postgame shows because I know he's got nothing going on tomorrow right Trevor you got nothing going on big right no I'm free so I hope it's an evening wedding uh at this point but you know you can get away with not a lot of sleep after a win like today but I I'll I'll let you do your thing here first thoughts gut feelings on how this thing went down no I appreciate it it's awesome to be on here um I wasn't going to get much sleep anyways so that's fair rather sit down with you you guys and talk some ball for a while I am tailoring expectations I'm beyond happy with what I saw today to your guys's Point lot of expectations or a lot of Corrections that need to be made moving forward the biggest thing that I took away is when I was sitting down watching it living room full of people families in town so it was they got to see me in my element yeah I have to watch by myself but go ahead I sent around disclaimer people signed off they said I was good so we're we're okay but one of the biggest things that I saw is multiple points throughout the game I was at a spot where we have to convert here we have to get a stop here we got to push the ball down the field here and for the most part that happened which in previous years that doesn't happen in this kind of game so I don't want to fall into the category and people and say you know Notre Dame doesn't win these type of games I will say they struggle more in these kind of games I'm not going to take the opponent specifically or factor in their ranking but in games where Notre Dame has to drive down the field or get that stop or not miss that open field tackle or put together an 89 yard scoring Drive most of the time that hasn't happened in previous years that to me is one of the biggest differences that I saw today and it's a lot to build on for the other guaranteed 11 games that we have the rest of this year sea Davis good to have you on my friend thanks for hanging out with us in in the we hour it's good to see you buddy what are you thinking man what are your first thoughts coming out of this thing uh immediately I went to episode one of the documentary when he was uh sitting there with Coach hoes and he said look you got to be the more physical team the more fundamental team the closer team and don't Flinch they checked about three of those boxes because the fundamentals kind of went out of the window the first three quarters right then it kind of came together the last quarter fair but but don't Flinch and I think it goes to what Trevor said that under Marcus Freeman when they had bad games but they still had opportunities to win I think they played awful against Duke they wanted they turned around and played off for against Louisville he flinched as a head coach right going forward unnecessarily his players follow look suit and then you know you go to tonight and it's just not going well right and I think all of us once texting them tied it up saying yep here we go again we're preparing for a postgame show that's going to be possibly apop apocalyptic and um oh this team showed who they are Vince Vince we saw a lot of things in Camp that we felt like okay they're different they're different the way they're moving the way they're operating the way they're coaching sure and I think ultimately we saw in that fourth quarter where you really see what teams are made of the health Marcus Freeman talked about it post game like we weren't cramping they were cramping yeah yeah they were wearing down we weren't yeah so we were built for this we knew this was the type of game it would be and I think Notre Dame did a great job keeping the game close if no Dame plays a clean game this is a 20o win right I have no doubt about agreed 20 point win if they play a clean game they helped them they have what over 100 yards and penalties it was just I think it was 99 or something like that something crazy yeah so to think about everything that went against them and for them when the rubber met the road for them to stand up in that environment and say we're the tougher team we're the more physical team and we're about to be the most fundamental team when it counts the most like they check all the boxes when it counted the most and you have to tip your cap to Marcus Freeman and I love seeing him on the sideline telling them on that last stop by Christian gra I told you so I told this played out the way I told you it would so kudos to them and um sometimes the championship teams you have to win ugly ones like this it's just I mean you can go back the greatest team that was that the 2001 hurricanes they almost lost to Boston College which is like a four- win team and they Ed Reed had to take it all the way back on a turnover so these are the types of games I think all what the LSU team they almost lost to Texas a pretty average Texas team on the road to start that season so you know as much as we might want to nitpick I think they showed a lot of grit a lot of toughness and I think the character of this team came through the night in a ugly way it was a ugly but they were still able to show who they were in my opinion but isn't that when character is shown when your backs are against it you know what I mean like that that's when your true character comes out in adversity it's easy to be positive when everything's going your way right and and there no one can sit here and say that everything went Notre Dame's way yes they got the win in the end but they kind they had to dig pretty deep you know what I mean at the end of this game to to figure out how to get this thing done and so you know we'll we'll get more into that but Ryan Roberts welcome back to Irish breakdown brother thank you for hanging out with us and uh your your first thoughts man like first of all I love doing show the postgame shows with you man y first thoughts on on this game heading into the game I saw a statistic that Notre Dame Under Marcus Remo was 0 for four against top 25 teams that they are favored to lose in that contest so this was the first game that margus Freeman has won at the University of Notre Dame against the top 25 team that he was an underdog to that speaks volumes obviously to the magnitude of the victory I don't care about all the miscellaneous things that some people are going to try to poke holes into this Victory you beat a tough SEC team with a lot of talent who is really well coached on the road that speaks the volumes but let me take you through Vince real quick before we dive deeper into this contest right to my emotions as a Notre Dame fan because ultimately we are all Notre Dame fans here which is why I think that our our perspective get kind of resonates with some people so here's my emotions in this game Notre Dame has a little bit of a back and forth first half they're tied six up for the majority of it at least into the second quarter and my initial pulse was wow Notre Dame is not playing that well Texas is actually outplaying Notre Dame yet they're within shouting distance and they're within an opportunity to open this game up then my emotions went this way end of the second second half or end of the first half Shawn Davis they stalled out in an opportunity that should have went up to begin the half okay so then what happens Notre Dame takes the lead I'm like oh my God is this in the second half I'm like is this the game that's finally gonna get Notre Dame potentially over the hump and start something great and it looked like it did for a second and then as soon as T it&m scored to tie the game up what happened the PTSD came back baby and for a second I'm like oh my God got Notre Dame's going to lose this football game because let's be honest they were a road Underdog they were tied in the fourth quarter in a very hostile environment against an SEC team everybody out there except for one or two of the mainstream analysts said that Notre Dame should have lost that football game in that moment everyone would have said it and this was the most resilient team that I have seen now in three in two plus one game years under Marcus Freeman so hats off to the team lot going against him the offensive line shuffling six career starts Riley Leonard's first game a lot of things that people wanted to talk about of why Notre Dame was supposed to lose this football game and folks they didn't and they started off with a great 2024 Victory love it yeah yeah no doubt about it I mean look we talked a lot we obviously talked about this game specifically a lot for the last eight months I mean we talked about the team as a whole but this opener I mean look across college football you you looked at they showed you know the top 10 teams and you know who they played in the first weekend I mean this is the mar this was the Marquee matchup I mean outside of maybe you know Georgia Clemson which ended up being a blowout right this was the Marquee matchup this was the one that went down to the wire and you know I give Notre Dame a lot of credit for scheduling this game in game one I mean you know we kind of had that debate do you do a game like this do you do a Western Kentucky you know what I mean like how would you rather have it this is what Notre Dame decided to do go on the road in the largest SEC Stadium right and I think the fourth largest stadium in the country you go on the road and you come home with a victory I mean this sets Notre Dame up big time for the rest of the season obviously right and I want to get your guys's perspective on this and we can go around the horn or you guys could just jump in we talked about this game specifically going into it was this the biggest game of Marcus Freeman's career going into the game and now that we know the outcome do you still think that Ryan go well I was going to say I literally wrote an article about this that came out this morning I do think that this was the biggest game in Marcus Freeman's career for a couple different reasons and I'll let you guys kind of go ham on it right is that no it is not the best team that Notre game has played the previous two years that would probably be one of the Ohio State teams right so was it the best team Marcus Freeman played against no but what you have in front of you we saw Ohio State kind of struggled today for a lot of the Akon game we saw Oregon look awful against an Idaho team an FCS opponent yes Georgia looked very dominant Miami looked like they were a team but this is a field that is pretty wide open in a 12 team playoff where you look at it and say if you get into the dance and you have a good day you might have a chance to to get something done here right so that was a big part of it number two you're an underdog on the road against an SEC team and this is the year where we kind of start putting those puzzle pieces together Marcus Freeman now has multiple recruiting classes in the pipeline we keep hearing about and you guys practice reports included how fast this team is right how they look different how they look like a completely different Notre Dame team that we have seen in several years so yes I think this was the biggest game because I believe that this could be Vince a springboard this could be the game that I believe you get over the hump mentally if you're Notre Dame Marcus Freeman that's off the back now all the players are now starting to experience and taste a little bit of that success so no it is not the best team that they've played in his three years but I do think that this was the biggest game so far in Marcus Freeman's career Sean I'll say this I could automatically just agree with double r but I think it's a little bit Nuance Vince and I look at it from the standpoint of as far as Marcus Freeman and the program I would agree I would absolutely absolutely agree this game is not you already know what's about to be said right no one picked them Nally right but as soon as Monday hits everybody's gonna say well Tex saying them wasn't that good anyway so there is and we know it so they missed the opportunity the last two years to change the national perspective against Ohio State so those were bigger games as far as the national narrative as far as Marcus Freeman trying to establish in leg legitimize his program and the talent that he's added and getting over the humps of first of all going on the road and being able to play fundamental play clean he still has to answer that in my opinion but what they did answer which we talked about in the open is the resiliency being able to not flinch and being able to be the most physical team and those games in the last two seasons got away it got away from them against Marshall sure it got away from them against it got away from them against Louisville you saw the difference in the true character of what they've been building so now I think they have the building blocks to build upon this so for that reason I definitely agree with what Ryan said but I think from a national media perspective I think most people are still going to say Notre Dame really hasn't proven anything and that's probably going to come in the playoffs you know winning a couple games there Fair Trevor got some thoughts yeah the I think this was Marcus Freeman's biggest game from an affirmation standpoint I don't know what it's been but in 2022 and 2023 it felt like even though 23 we got off to a hot start once Ohio State came around it always felt like for whatever reason Notre Dame was coming and having to play from behind so the margin for error got significantly small which was so tough to Ryan's point this game for Notre Dame springboarded the rest I mean the the hardest team that we have on the schedule coming up next arguably is Florida state Georgia Tech could be thrown into that conversation just based off of what happened last year with Louisville they could be thrown into the conversation but I look at what happened to the team in in 2022 you lose to Ohio State in the shoe and it almost feels like the margin for error is essentially zero you have to go 11 and0 the next 12 weeks of the season and for something like this I don't want to say because on the flip side of that coin which I know we'll probably talk about later you can't take your foot off the gas now now it's time to take what you have and run with it but I think this was Marcus Freeman's biggest game from an affirmation standpoint I think it was Dan Campbell a couple last year maybe in a game where the Lions won the reporter walked up to him and was like hey what did you learn about your team today and he said one of the coolest quotes that I had heard from a coach and he said I didn't learn anything new I just confirmed a few things he's like we knew what this team was about Marcus Freeman knows what Notre Dame has and what their capabilities are this season but I think the way that they played the way that they were able to battle adversity some of it was self-inflicted for sure 99 yards in penalties is absolutely killer fixable mistakes though sure fixable and so I look at a first game of if this is your foundation and looking at how well the defense played today and the offense was making plays when they had to when it mattered in crunch time if that's your Foundation of where to build on I like where we're at well and there were so many built-in excuses in this football game for Notre Dame if they wanted to take them right like again first game as an new offensive coordinator first game for a quarterback fir six career starts on the offensive line road game in Texas A&M like there's in we we could be honest with ourselves there would have been some people in this fan base that would have left this game and been like oh it's okay like the X Y and Z and they'll grow from here and screw that man like like the standard needs to raise more than that man I'm tired of the built-in excuses this team was resilient that was my biggest takeaway I expected or shouldn't say expected I was leaning towards when they were tied up in the fourth quarter and a couple offensive offensive drives had stalled my PTSD again kind of kicked in where I'm just like man I think they're probably gonna lose this football game like I don't like this at all but this team showed that they believed in the process they showed they believed in Marcus Freeman and Marcus Freeman believed in them like when when the chips were down he believed in the Run game getting going the offensive line improving Riley Leonard making plays the defense making getting theirs like he believed and I think everybody believed tonight so I I really think that this was a a game of like there it was a Resolute feeling out there it was a feeling of there was belief and that they were tired of the same old same old maybe I'm completely wrong about that we'll see how the season turns out but that's the pulse that I got tonight is that an offensive line took it upon themselves to be better when they needed to be Riley Leonard took it upon himself the running game took it upon himself the defense took it on himself this was a resilient bunch tonight I've got I've got a question about Marcus Freeman in a second that I want to get to but before we get off of the uh the big game question right or the the biggest game question you know that that type of thing do you guys think from a national media standpoint if you just do you think if we erased the name Texas A&M and just knew that this was an SEC team on the road it's pretty much the same conversation or do you think it had anything to do with it being specifically Texas A&M or is it just the vaunted SEC Notre Dame can't go down into SEC country and win on the road you know what I mean like does it did it even matter that it was Texas A&M or could you have put like any SEC team in there except for maybe like I don't know Vanderbilt like something like that although they did win today do you think that had you know the from a national media standpoint was it just the SEC like they just can't be beat at home kind of a conversation or do you think Texas ANM actually had something to do with this i' it's kind of a copout answer but I would say yes and yes it's hard to say just if you label the SEC then I I think one side or the other we don't play the te fair enough fair enough but I it's it's tough because I think if Notre Dame goes down and they play Kentucky or South Carolina or Vanderbilt I don't think that there's this narrative around the team that well they don't win these kinds of games because historically yes they absolutely do win these games we just beat South Carolina two years ago right right so I think there's about eight teams in the SEC where that becomes the narrative for Notre Dame um but again I know we'll get into it later but the the narrative will be Twisted a certain way regardless Texas A&M at home against Power five opponents the last 41 games up until tonight were 20 and 21 win win loss at home so nobody wanted to talk about that before the game it was it's to 12th man it's at night it's hot which clearly did not affect the boys from South Bend at all right yeah I want to talk about that in a minute too yeah so uh but short answer I don't think it matters if you just insert sec I think it has to be just slightly more granular because I think the narrative is the same if Notre Dame goes and plays LSU at home at night if they go play Alabama at home at night even if they go to Florida go to the swamp just because it's that it has that aura about the team um same thing with Texas A&M their win loss record at home against Power five teams is below 500 but it's the 12th man it's college game day was there Johnny Manzel was there 13 years ago so it's that's that's that's why it had that that feeling I think nationally I almost said a mean joke about Johnny Manzel Sean Davis how are you my friend you're crazy I'm not even going down that rabbit hole with you bro so no I think what Trevor said is absolutely spot on and you know just to go back to what I just said previously you know when you look at the national media you know Notre Dame is between a rock and a hard place and there's really nothing that they can prove other than winning a national championship that's the truth for the matter and it's okay it's okay it is what it is right now I think the program is moving in that direction how I mean heck I I I I watched Georgia today I can't after one week I don't know that's they look like they're better than everybody at this point but of course I don't really respect Clemson at this point so right right I don't really know what that means right so I think we're getting closer I think this third year is going to be a very special ride I think this schedule was a nice Parting Gift by the uh previous ad thank you Jack forver and um getting through this game um does nothing in my opinion I think Texas A&M it would have to be Alabama or Georgia at night between the hedges in order for thing people to take notice and say oh man they they be Georgia at home which by the way Notre Dame had a chance to do with the ball with a minute left right so that just shows you how close Notre Dame has been you know and I think that's that's why people are jealous right they they can't argue against the brand they can't argue against the academics the only thing that they can speak about is 1988 and you guys don't win the big games that's it that's all they have and those things are true and not the Dame can only blame themselves when it comes to that narrative so I'm just at a place where it is what it is and it's time to either put up a shut up and just erase everything that they put before us and win a National Championship and then stand there and say what you gonna say now as LeBron said what what are you gonna say now I you know it it it's funny because I was just about to turn off the TV and start putting my notes together for the show and uh you know the announcers were like you know they're talking about you know the game's coming up and the you know the the schedule coming up for both teams and of course Chris Fowler is like yeah you know the SEC and the defenses only get better from here like really you just watched arguably the best defense in the country do what they did to A&M and the five-star quarterback and you have the gal to say that the defenses only get better from here like that that like ticked me off like I was like I I was so mad when I heard that I'm like you just witnessed this in person you saw what this defense did we're going to get more into that but like the SEC thing is just it that's why I asked you guys that question you know what I mean because the SEC I hate that the word the term SEC bias but it's true right it's just it just it grabs these these National media guys just so hard they just can't let it go even though they just witnessed what Notre Dame did defensively against A&M you know and Colin Klein and how wonderful of a coordinator he is and all these different things like not tonight like you you ran into a buzz saw in Notre Dame right outside of the one drive where they gave up the the game time touchdown like they were fantastic tonight so big picture fellas we've seen Marcus Freeman now for two years plus two games if you want to count the bowl game that he took over right did you did you learn anything about Marcus Freeman tonight that that's my question did you learn anything about Marcus Freeman Ryan did I learn anything about Marcus Freeman it's a great question I I don't think I necessarily learned anything about Marcus Freeman per se I think I just more learned about the group of players that he's assembled like I I've never questions Marcus Freeman's desire to win right like I've never questioned the stoic nature of which he does things I've never questioned the character that he does things I've never questioned that he has a great defensive mind like all those things I think are pretty apparent with just watching the guy as a defensive coordinator and just seeing him in the first couple years I just wanted to see how this team responded to what we've heard this offseason right like we because what we see with Marcus Freeman and he comes off as a very genuine family oriented man and a great person but behind the scenes you hear that like this guy de is demanding right like he demands Excellence which I want to hear so again I think that comes back to that resilience that we saw in the fourth quarter is I think that that is an image of their head coach like I think that the team just bought into him so I don't think Marcus Freeman is any different today as far as how he presents himself maybe found foundationally what he does behind the scenes to a degree but I think that he is the same exact person that we've always known Marcus Freeman to be I just think that this is I don't want to say the first time but it's one of the first times that we have seen a team that is completely bought in right because two years ago we know that everyone wasn't bought in like we've talked some from the roster because not everybody's bought in I think that we got to look at tonight what a Marcus Freeman team looks like more than anything what is it supposed to how is it supposed to act what is the aggressiveness that it plays with what is foundationally what it's built off of I think that was always there I just think that the team now mirrors Marcus Freeman a little bit more so it might just be a little bit more pronounced John what do you think I think to two things stand out for me and I want to go back to the very beginning I think it's tough enough to be the head coach as an experienced head coach at a place like Notre Dame but for your first head coaching job to be Notre Dame and everything that surrounds it right and it entails I think for him to do that and to be as confident as he is I think we saw the full confidence tonight I pointed out that I saw the full confidence in the way he was moving differently during fall camp in my opinion and I think that manifested itself for the first time on the field I think in previous Seasons we saw at times when things got tough a little bit of Doubt trying to creep in but I think he held fast and held firm to what he believed this uh Team needed to be he always said from the junk we need to be and we're going to be a trenches team offensive defensive line yes we're going to add Talent at key positions quarterback skill positions but just think about I just want to point out the tough decisions he's had to make he had to take unprecedented he had to take an offensive coordinator that he didn't pick no who does that right but he took it he took it no blame put his head down went to work he took the Stanford loss he took the Marshal loss on the chin and kept believing in this is what I'm going to do R how many times did we talk about the temptation of playing those young linebackers early it was there we knew they were longer and more athletic we knew they were more instinctive but he didn't do it he let them develop and until it was time to let them off the leash down in College Station tonight and then last but not least underrated he made the decision to move on from a popular strength and conditioning coach named Matt B and took some heat from it from people that covered the team a lot of people questioned that decision look at tonight he's standing there talking about the difference it made that in a big game the health of his team was Paramount so for me I salute the man for sticking by his guns when things and obstacles were put in his way and he could have yield it multiple times but he stuck to his guns he stuck to his plan he stuck to his two mentors in his life and the advice and the wisdom they gave him and tonight he gets to kind of take a deep breath and say I told you so like he told his young men as they came off the field after getting that big stop that's for me that's everything that I saw from him tonight I think this was a big exhale moment like he finally gets to see the manifestation of what he believed in all of us go through that in life right you believe you believe you believe and you just hope to see the fruits of that and he he got to see the fruits of it tonight it was pretty cool honestly it was pretty cool Trevor what do you think to Eko Ryan's point I think the team that you coach and the Persona that they take on is a byproduct of how you are as a leader and we got to see that tonight with Marcus Freeman and we've got to see that from the beginning he is somebody you want to talk about a coaching job in America where you could have potentially the most excuses that you could have and he never did he accepted what his role was he he came in with a game plan previous teams stars in align there which is tough and you kind of play with the cards that you're dealt and he did there are so many excuses that you could point to why you lost this game and why you didn't get this recruit and why you had to go with this cordinator because this guy couldn't go somewhere right and the thing that I respect about him the most is he stuck true to his guns and now this Notre Dame team is starting to reflect how he is as a coach the thing that I think he's improved on the most is I think this year he's significantly more tactile in his approach to the game he went out and got the people that he needed to in the offseason it's refreshing to have a head coach leading the team that you love and are so bought into who follows through with what he says so many times well we have to get more aggressive on defense we have to be able to make big plays in the offense so you know we have to you know be better you hear coaches say these things all the time right and it's refreshing that now Marcus Freeman the guy at the helm for Notre Dame is following through he knew we were going Notre Dame was going to have a longer season this year right what did he do he went and got a strengthen and conditioning coach that has NFL experience where regular seasons are 16 games long we you know we've talked so much in previous shows about how Notre Dame needs a more explosive offense what did he do he went out and fought and got on paper the number one offensive coordinator in the country and I know there's people in the chat and I was feeling this way a little bit watching the game too of is Mike Den Brock in town I think he is I I saw him I I I know he's here but I think Marcus Freeman has made all of the Right Moves to what he needs to do to build a good foundation to move this team forward and I don't think that that's a change but to the original question that kind of confirmed for me that Notre Dame has the right guy for the job which is a really comforting feeling I I like where your head's at Trevor and I completely agree with everything that you said so like the question is you know did we learn anything about him tonight right I think since he got the job he's made off the field I think he's made all the right decisions I think he's the right guy demeanor wise I think he's the right guy you know from a work ethic standpoint from a recruiting standpoint all of those things right I think he's a I think he's a good person you know not that that necessarily matters depending on where you uh what school you root for but I mean he checks all of those boxes off the field for me now where I think work needed to be done was as a head coach on Game Day right and we and we can go back and we can dissect some decisions that were made over the last two plus years and you know some in-game moments and some timeouts or some going forward when you didn't need to go for you know things of that nature right I think that he has and we and we've talked about this before and it goes all the way back to when he was a defensive coordinator at Notre Dame and and in the first game when he made mistakes and then he put himself up in the front of the room and he's like that was on me guys like I will do better like that was on me that was huge for me and he has continued that in his own personal growth as a head coach you know his motto for the team is you challenge everything I think he challenges everything that he does and I think you saw that as a head coach tonight I I think that he managed this game as a head coach better than I've seen him manage big games before right he W he looked more relaxed on the sidelines than I think he's looked in big games before he he didn't he didn't lose his you know what he didn't lose his stuff on the sidelines we've seen that right the leader has to be the one in control right you have to be because the guys behind you are going to follow your lead whether it's the assistant coaches whether it's the Players I Want To Echo what what you guys were talking about as far as the players that he's recruited look the vast majority of the guys that were making plays tonight are guys he brought in I mean look you can say a lot of things about Marcus Freeman you can say a lot of things about Joe Rudolph but man and Mike Dem Brock but they went all in on this offensive line and they're like these are our guys these are the guys that give us the best chance to win and we're going to go for it and we're not gonna you know yank them out at the first sign of adversity like these are our guys and we're rolling with them you know and I think a lot of people are like okay I mean I don't know if that's right the right decision or not but that's what he did and at the end of the day on that final drive what was the side of the line that opened up that hole for that touchdown it was the left side right I mean look they made their Sheriff mistakes and we'll get into the specifics and all that stuff but I think I saw in my opinion throughout this entire off season into fall Camp as you mentioned Sean on and then into tonight I've seen the growth of a head coach right I have and he is not apologetic for the decisions that he's making he's not an excuse maker and if they would have come up on the short end he would not have been an excuse maker about what happened tonight and I think that is serious growth for a head coach not that he was ever an excuse maker but he has made decisions to put him and his program in position to win games like this and it finally came to fruition night right there's going to be the naysayers on Monday that are going to talk about well this isn't a great SEC team and all whatever doesn't matter we know that this is a big win because of the stakes that were around it the stakes that were surrounding it Trevor mentioned the the sliver you know what was it the margin of err right if they lose this game they gota they got to run the table if you want to make if you want to be have a guaranteed spot in the playoff I mean an 11-1 Notre Dam I think makes the playoff well you just you just got across a huge hurdle in game one now you can kind of take a breath you step back you get to come home you get some manageable opponents of course you don't want to take anybody for granted blah blah blah get all that I get it but they're manageable opponents okay and you're getting it from home and all of it goes with that and then you start to build and you start to create you start to fix some of these mistakes and you know all these fixable look 11 penalties for 99 yards that is that is astronomically too many nobody will say that that's okay right but now is when you start to fix those things look they just went out there on you know Talent duct tape and and Goodwill like tonight you know what I mean like to get this win so I I I personally think I learned something about Marcus Freeman and his maturation process look he's not a Hall of Fame coach yet right I'm not saying that but I like where he's at and his team believes in him and that's huge that is massive because those were his guys out there making play so that's my rant on Marcus Freeman I do want to ask you guys a question though because I don't know how many times I had to hear it over the last eight months was that you know Notre Dame's not going to be able to handle the heat down in Texas okay can we just touch on that momentarily about how this actually played out with and again this is a big picture comment right how's Notre Dame going to be able to prepare for the heat in Texas and they going to do the right things and they're going to need the depth and they're going to need this and they're going to need that fellas I saw a lot of maroon jerseys on the ground cramping up and I didn't see a whole lot of white jerseys that I mean maybe I missed something but I do you think they answered that question fellas I think for me trust I'll point to one series I believe it was in the second quarter because I know how Notre Dame used to react as a coaching staff and they had hinish and on Texas a moved the ball down the field they got into Irish territory they rode with it normally they would panick and immediately put Mills and cross back Vince you know you know they would rush to put cross and Riley Mills back in the game y as soon as they got into you know scoring territory or close to it nope finish it out and they did and watching that series I was like oh I was expecting it to come I was expecting cross and mill running the field and when they didn't the one word that jumped in my mind is like he trust his kids and he trust his coaches fully now yep now he fully trusts his coaching staff and his kids and that was really cool to see and that's when a program starts to turn the corner right because that's a situation where you s there's no Panic there's no Panic it's very similar to what we saw last year with Michigan like dude they just they went in waves they let their second guys finish it out and when you have that type of Team it talks about the closeness the trust playing for each other everything all the cliches we hear but it matters it matters and so for me I I think just that right there just showed the trust not only in their abilities but in the health the overall health of the team you know being strong and it carried the day because you saw who the stronger team was in the fourth quarter yeah no doubt it was a big difference in the fourth quarter I completely agree with you Sean Trevor what do you think I think the heat is such a weird thing to game plan for because that's one thing as a coach that you have zero control over yeah 100% And I'm here to tell you I I live in Indianapolis we had our rehearsal today and our ceremon outside I'm here to tell you it gets really really really hot in Indiana hot enough to where I called Men's Warehouse and I now have a second buttonup with my tuck because one shirt's not going to make me not g to get me through the night okay look yes it's hot it's hot everywhere you know why because it's the summertime it's just look I get it I I I could go on this rant which I did earlier today uh but look I I think Notre Dame answered that question again it was an easy thing to succumb to Notre Dame easily could have said well I mean there's the heat it's really loud you know how do we prepare for something like that I don't know what they did because I have yet to go see a practice but I guarantee whatever they did it worked because to some degree that's something that Marcus Freeman doesn't have control over and luckily for Notre Dame the players that they're recruiting and the the pipeline of kids that they have coming in are not all from North Dakota and Maine so they are used to playing in the heat around the country I mean it's just in short yes I think they answered the question that they can handle the heat and it's just it goes to the Testament of Marcus Freeman the difference of of what I've seen from him this year this was the most prepared I've seen Notre Dame be for a game in a very long time things didn't go our way and typically as a fan you sit down and you watch it you throw your head in the you know hands in the lap whatever and it's here we go and you sometimes you could see that on the players faces and no it it was almost like nothing shocked them tonight it was okay well here's another thing we have to overcome let's just overcome it so I think through battling all of that and having to prepare for every different aspect of this game and all the outside noise I think the heat took a backseat I think that's why they were able to to handle it because they I think that's the one thing that they could look at and say whether we have the best week of practice or the worst week of practice the weather's the weather and that's just how it's going to be that's how I look at the heat man I just learn two things uh one is that Trevor hates Maine and North Dakota apparently two states that he'll never visit I I assuming the other thing is Trevor's already getting ready for the ceremony tomorrow of oh no babe it's it's sweat in my eye I'm not crying I promise promise this it's here I don't I don't want to Echo everything too much I think you guys hit on it perfectly it was Tex A&M guys that were that were dropping like flies and I think a certain quarterback for the agie was throwing up on the field at one point right so yeah I think Notre Dame was was very prepared for that heat and that challenge on the road well vce I have a question because we both saw this at Camp Tempo yeah this was the most uptempo Camp we've seen they did so much in those five minute periods in comparison to the two previous camps sure it was noticeable and we like yo they're really playing at a faster Pace I think that also help them to get ready the K just get ready for a rigorous physical football game for getet the temperature because I bet you one thing Notre Dame was more ready to go play in the heat anywhere than Texas A&M coming here in December I can guarantee you that bring Texas A&M to South B in December no chance right no chance so when we talk about weather man it it plays a part but it only plays a part when you're unprepared physically and think they did a fantastic job I think it was echoed by Golden Marcus Freeman and Mike Den Brock how much Tempo played a part right and Mike de Den Brock going Tempo in practice help Al golden and the defense prepare for Tempo so and which is great because most teams I think they said on the broadcast most teams like to attack Al Go's defense with tempo right now if that's not NES Hill anymore of his defense because of the preparation in Fall Camp versus Mike Den Brock you know this a defense the sky Li Sky really the limit it really is yeah look there there's a super chat in here that I remember seeing earlier but we we've got so many and by the way we will get to all the super chats that's our last segment of the day we will we will get to all of your super chats we really appreciate you guys bringing those in we will definitely get to all of those in our final segment uh but there was a super chat in there that somebody put in there uh basically for Lauren landow you excuse me Lauren Lando uh you know basically saying it was pretty clear that he's had an impact on this team and it it always makes me chuckle when I listen to you know people in the media talking about how they can they can already tell you know the effect that Lauren Lando has had on this team just by watching the first five periods of practice it's like all right pump the brakes a little bit right I mean if if these guys don't look like D1 athlet you know High D1 athletes and they probably don't belong at Notre Dame in the first place but today okay now you can start having that conversation because this team and I'll even throw in the nutrition staff on this one as well because those are the ones that are in charge of you know making sure these guys are getting hydrated and they're getting the you know the proper electrolytes and you know all of the sports science that that Marcus Freeman is so high on right I mean he he's got a nutritionist and he's got all of these different things they've been working on this for weeks right Notre Dame was the stronger team in the fourth quarter period end of discussion they weren't going down with injuries they weren't going down with cramping and they were the ones that offensively took it to Texas A&M and punched him in the mouth on that last drive right I mean look Riley Leonard wasn't really GNA be dropping back and and chucking balls on that last Drive I mean yes he made a couple of passes and you know Bo Collins made that great grab and all of that and we'll get into the specifics in a bit but but they're like look we're going to run the ball right down your throat and we're going to show you that we deserve this win and that's what they did and you can give the coaches obviously a lot of credit but you can also give a lot of credit to the strength and conditioning staff and the nutrition staff because after that long game after being out in the Heat and doing all of those different things Notre Dame was the one left standing at the end literally and figuratively because of the way that they were prepared for that game you know what I mean like it it was very clear it was very very clear so everybody can start having those discussions now that Lauren Orlando is doing a great job I'm I'm all for it now I thought it was funny back in like July but now I'm all for it right because we actually saw the fruits of that labor now the next step is to see the fruits of that labor at the end of the season in like November and December and hopefully January right like that's when we really want to see it but we saw it in game one there there's absolutely no doubt about it so a lot of credit goes to those guys they were absolutely prepared for the heat they were absolutely prepared for the slugfest that came and they were absolutely ready to play a fourth quarter game and I and I think that's huge too right because that is that is a program defining trait that you're ready to play football like that right in SEC country on the road you know all of those different you know all those different boxes that they needed to check they checked them all and so across the board I I was very impressed with that so fellas any final big picture thoughts before we move on to the next segment all right let's go let's do it so hey before we move on to the next segment everybody make sure you hit that like button that subscribe button that notification Bell share with your family and friends boards at Irish breakdown. comom if you want a range of emotions from utter despair to utter Glee you got to be on the boards during the game because if you're on the game thread you won't even know what hit you okay it is hilarious just to watch the roller coaster of emotions uh on on the boards and so it it's it's worth the price of admission as they say so make sure you guys get over boards at Irish breakdown. comom it's a lot of fun over there and and I'm sure I'm sure the board is still flying at this point uh after that big 23-13 victory so boards that Irish breakdown. comom so a new segment that we're going to kind of roll through and see how it works for us is we're going to go through this game we're going to start at the beginning of the game boys we're going to go quarter by quarter we're going to kind of just dissect it okay just our rec election watching it I I'm guessing you guys probably took notes and your guys's memories are better than mine I'm guessing that's why I have to take lots of notes uh but let's kind of go through this thing and you know let's let's take it back z z Notre Dame's kicking off they're going on defense thoughts on you know the first couple of series at least the first series defensively for Notre Dame obviously uh the series as a whole 10 plays 58 yards A&M goes down kicks that field goal what are we thinking about this series fellas one of the big keys to victory that we talked about uh on the show earlier this week was if the red zone defense was still going to be as good as it was last year and with how aggressive now I guess I don't want to say aggressive but with just how hyped up Texas A&M came out home crowd you know Notre Dames on the road I was going to be interested to see how we handled that coming in and I think Notre Dame did a pretty good job honestly got down to the Red Zone you could tell that they were also Juiced up couple of off sides like very Twitchy which typically is a good thing little too Twitchy for my taste on the first drivve right but it was nice to see that the thing in question was not the physicality the offensive line for both teams was a hot topic of conversation this week and the first couple plays man I don't know if you guys were paying attention I'm sure you were but our dline was getting a pretty good pop on their offensive line to start the game and that's when I kind of could start to feel that it was hey this isn't like uh everybody talks about SEC ball and how they'll run over everybody else and we weren't Notre Dame wasn't really moving backwards that much little bit of You Know M assignment here uh we talked about it all last week that Colin Klein likes to do a lot with pre- SNAP motion sure young linebacking Corp got a little distracted there in the middle of it but overall first drive first quarter I think the defense played okay um it's where what I expected them to be at okay if that makes sense yep Sean literally after they kicked the field goal I was like we're good we just gave him three points we're good oh yeah AB I felt I felt that our defense would be like a bow constrictor as the game went on and we were just tighten and tighten with each quarter and I think that's what happened and then you start to see mistakes but after that first drive I was actually encouraged defensively Trevor pointed on it wasn't like they just came out physically moved the ball down the field and did what they wanted to do and out schemed us that wasn't the case they needed help they needed help they went back to Notre Dame helped them stay in the game they really did and I think when they watched the film they're going to say oh man we we should have killed this team we the better team we just didn't play up to our standard and so I felt good after that first drive I really did Vince Ryan thoughts on the first drive defensively I think that and and me and Brian actually had a a little uh conversation via text earlier in the week I think that the the way that you prepare for Texas A&M in this first game was you go and you watch Colin Klein right and Colin Klein at Kansas state was a much different offense than what we saw like there were some Run game princip specifically to the running backs that are similar to what he did at Kansas State but overall Conor Wegman is not a he's not a Kansas State quarterback right like they they're more a little more athletic guys that run power read guys that run quarterback you know quarterback UM quarterback counter at times like they do all these different types of nuanced things in the Run game so I honestly think that watching the full scope of Kansas State over the last couple years would give you wrinkles of what you saw tonight but it wouldn't tell you the full picture of what to expect for Colin Klein in 2024 with Tex A&M with Conor wigman as his quarterback I just don't think he necessarily has the type of players in this offense that translate well to what he did at Kansas State so I think what shocked Notre Dame a little bit in that first drive especially is why they drove the ball decently in the first drive against the defense was that they went against an offense that they just they they didn't really know right like they came out and they were trying to be a little bit more spread oriented they tried to go towards the strengths of Conor Wegman in the game and that took I think Notre Dame a little bit by surprise but ultimately at the end Notre Dame stiffens and they were able to hold him to a field goal which was a good thing to see but I think that first drive especially the first few plays was about an adjustment to not exactly knowing what a offense for texanum was going to look like under Colin Klein so I think that was just kind of the the it's almost like the chess match a little bit right cuz like you're doing your deep dies for weeks a couple weeks now of what Colin Klein is going to do with T&M in reality we had no idea what this offense was going to be under Colin kle like I feel like I had a much better idea of what the defense was going to be under coach Elco than what a colen Klein Texas A&M offense is going to be so I think that was just a little shock to the system they had to get their bearings they had to get their footing and they were playing a lot of younger guys right like we'll talk about Drake Bowen we'll talk about Jaylen sne we'll talk about Jay Ury we'll talk about Adon Schuler Christian Gray there were some younger kids that I think just need to get acclimated a little bit and I think the whole defense in general needed to figure out what a Colin Klein Tex offense looks like yeah it was it was a little disconcerting with the couple of penalties specifically the first one on Third and seven like I felt like I mean they were they were on the verge of going three and out you know to start the game and then you know tryi jumps off sides you get a penalty and that kind of sets that sets him up for third and short they pick it up and then they start flowing right and that one was painful because I think if you you if you make them go three and out on the first drive you know it changes the entire landscape of of the game you know what I mean yeah granted they only went down and got a field goal which which which is great you know it's like like Sean said it's the boowa constrictor it's getting Tighter and Tighter and Tighter I think that's absolutely accurate but like that penalty was like you know it was the first one of like very important timed penalties in this game and and like you said they're going to go back watch this film they're going to be like man that was a back breaker you know now luckily it didn't lead to a loss obviously and 11 penalties for 99 yards is way too many but the penalty just came at such crucial times and this is the first one like this was the first crucial timed penalty on Third and seven because you know your playbooks not quite as open on Third and seven as it is on Third and two you know what I mean and and if you make them go three and out I think there's just a lot more moment on Notre Dame side at that point and maybe they even go down and put one in the end zone on their first offensive drive and so that's kind of that was kind of my Takeaway on in the first drive it's like okay you know they're having a little trouble holding their water you know got to make sure that they're staying on sides you know important times and of course then you know Riley Mills gets a flag it was only second and eight but then makes it second and short you know so on and so forth so little did we know that was kind of the beginning of multiple penalties uh moving forward but that was the only disconcerting part of that drive for me was the penalty on Third and seven it's like a that one hurt like that one really really hurt Notre Dame was playing against themselves a lot tonight I think was really s symbolized in that first drive was that Notre Dame was playing good fundamental defense pretty much but it was just like it was just overrunning a couple plays on that first drive and then in that you know where they were able to to to tie the game later in the in the in the second half and then also the I mean just the shooting at the foot of it is so demoralizing when you have a team like third and six and then all of a sec all of a sudden it's third and one or it's like third and four and then you go off size and it's an automatic first it's just very very frustrating so that stuff though and I think Trevor talked about it is like that's very fixable right like you can fix that stuff very easily I I thought actually coming out of that first drive I actually kind of felt good about it because you were like man Notre Dame did not play well that first drive pretty much but yet they were able to still hold him to a field goal right so I think that that was a symbol of like that Notre Dame doesn't need need to necessarily play their aame to win this game but ultimately they did stiffen down the down the stretch of that first drive which was good to see so field goal happens not Dame gets the football we finally see a Riley Leonard SL Mike demock LED offense for the first time ends up being a nine-play Drive 47 yards uh what was it a 46 yard field goal by Mitch Jeter to tie the game at three your initial thoughts on the offense during that drive go fellas money Mitch baby money Mitch I mean I mean you talk about money Mitch I I mean I need to make sure I know Vince you're the leader of tonight so I know we're going to talk about Mitch Jeter because special teams Guru vinced there but so I just wanted to throw a quick shout out but like for me I think that it was a I'm trying to think back exactly to that drive so like Run game wasn't going but I think you saw elements of why I'm excited for the rest of the year because Riley Leonard's Dynamic folks like he is there are times where the play is not going to be the right play or there's going to be a fumbled snap or there's going to be X Y and Z happening and he can make a bad play into a positive very very quickly I think saw that on the first drive you know a couple easy completions I know he had the first down to Jaden great house where that was a bad I think it was a low snap and from Ashton Craig and he kind of had to you know stay calm in the pocket but I think that just the calmness and the Swagger and athleticism of Riley Leonard was what popped to me early it was like oh we're not in Kansas anymore all due respect to uh Sam Hartman right like Sam on that play where he threw it to great house for the first down where the fal snap like I don't know if that ends up in a good situation right so I mean yeah Riley's playmaking ability on that first drive is kind of what popped out to me second play of the offensive Drive they're in empty like that one that one jumped out at me first of all like second play they're going empty okay cool this is a new Notre Dame you're not used to Notre Damon empty huh no not even a little bit and and then of course it's a bad snap but then he picks it up you know gets the completion to great house for eight yards okay and then a couple of plays later you know it's third and five you get Rody Leonard scrambling and look Notre Dames had mobile quarterbacks in the past right but it just looks different when he starts running the football it just it just looks different it looks a little bit more effortless he looks more like an athlete running the football and then did anybody else's heart stop when he just got like freaking targeted like right in the crown of the head and you're like okay here we go like you know obviously easy call to make it was absolutely targeting it was late it was all of those different things but it's like I really hope he's not out of the game after that CU that was a legit shot to the head and he just popped right back up I mean this kid if anything you list the qualities this kid is a tough tough kid man he is a tough tough kid andette we saw that in the first drive hit it do you know that kid that got kicked out of the game this is a really weird note and then I'll kick it over to Trevor because I think he had something to add right is that that uh Dalton Brooks was actually in Friday night Tikes have you ever seen Friday night ties was he really no kidding he was one of the they had um I forget what the team was called but they had they had Dalton and Douglas Brooks Douglas was the big brother who was like number 74 and then Dalton was the little Shifty running back that no one can catch like that was doton Brooks yeah that was that hilarious did you just remember that or did you see that some no no no I remember that I remember Brooks and I looked him up one time and I'm like yep from Texas from like the same area like that's that's him that's him oh my gosh that is hilarious Trevor hit it I love Riley Leonard because he is just a football guy yeah I mean and it's it's very obvious after watching the documentary and like the little series they did on him for the college game day this morning it's cool he's he's about ball I mean you you hear the coaches talking about how all through Camp he was asking to go live dude just wants to be hit he just wants to play football to its to the highest caliber and that's something that I respect and I think you saw that a lot tonight I mean you saw it in the first drive which is something that's a little different typically you don't see Notre Dame teams like that uh to Ryan's point no disrespect to Sam Hartman but there are some there are just certain things that he was not physically able to do last year that's not a knock on him that's that's just what the facts are throw Jack con onto that list throw Drew Pine on that list like it's not a Sam Hartman thing it's been a Notre Dame recent quarterback thing outside maybe Tyler Buckner once in a blue moon right so yeah it's it's not a it's not just the Sam Harman issue 100% I'm I'm treading lightly because I feel like I disrespected Maine and North Dak OTA which I've heard great things about so let me let me clear that up right now but but I I will say the the thing that I noticed that jumped out of the page for me for for Riley Leonard is he's a guy that he'll fall forward and get you the extra yard he has that it Factor where it's it's a small sample size and it's one game but I feel like if there's situations in the future which they will happen especially if this Notre Dame team is the team that we think they're going to be and get into the playoffs he's going to have to continue to make plays it's just going to have to happen and I feel a lot more confident that he has that ability in comparison to who we've had in the past so I feel good about it uh from a play calling standpoint I think it was very vanilla it was conservative for sure yeah yeah very safe understandably so and I think that comes from Marcus Freeman he's a defensive-minded head coach I love that we have Mike Den Brock in town now but I think it's a we're on the road we just held them to a field goal let's not go out and turn the ball over as much as I would have loved for us to start pushing the ball down the field I think that's what the mindset was for them but it was a very very mild very vanilla play calling which still drove Notre Dame down the field which still got us three points there there is a lot for me that I can look at and say which is going to probably be my reoccurring theme for the night there's so much to build on it's gonna be exciting yeah I can't wait to look at the film because I think there were opportunities there for not D even early but you know as Trevor said kudos to Mike denrock I think his experience came through because I think as an office of coordinator he was very patient he was very easy to go away from what you want to do in situations like that when you get frustrated with the way things are going and penalties and everything because I'm sure not only did he have to come in and get his left side settled on the offensive line and game plan to help them get into the game let's not forget Riley Leonard man didn't have a spring as much as we like oh he's Dynamic you saw rustiness he admitted himself like yo I didn't sett on to the game until the fourth quarter it took me three quarters to settle in and you saw that with some throws that he should have made and yo Mike and Brock just found a way to stay with things and you depend on that kid being able to because I think he's gonna make even more plays like you said that first drive was just just the tip of the iceberg yeah of what we were going to eventually see in the remainder of the game look just I wish he could have settled in a little earlier maybe if he was playing like I don't know akan or something right like all right archer in the chat will Howard stinks can we move on from that all right I'm sorry go ahead look I I don't none of us here are going to debate that ryy Leonard stats weren't great and that he missed some open guys and needs to work on some okay cool you know who's also the first person to say that Riley Leonard in his postgame interview he's like I don't know why you guys have the microphone in my face I played horrible until the fourth quarter you know so you don't think he's going to get back in the lab and and try to fix what was broken and all of these different of course he is because that's the kind of guy that he is and I believe it was Trevor that said he's a football guy like that's that's who he is that's how he's going to be and again they weren't playing akan they were playing Texas A&M on the road not at home you know that that makes a difference I I would have I would pay money right now to watch will Howard against Texas A&M's defense just say that okay but Riley Leonard we talked about him and what he's going to be able to do for this team what he we need him to do as a fan base and all of those different things right and we talked about the fact there's going to be times where he's just gonna have to put on the cape I think that's Brian's terminology he's gonna have to put on the cap he's gon have to put the team on his back we'll get to the drive where that occurred right but we saw glimpses of it in this first drive you know where he scrambled slid took the the targeting call you know the whole thing got him into field goal range you know did what he needed to do now there was miscommunication with Faison you know there there were some other things that didn't just quite Jive and that's why they had to settle for the field goal but they got the field goal they answered now it's three3 okay gives it back to the defense what does the defense do forces a punt first punt of the ball game uh defense starts to settle in a little bit more right defense starts to do what they need to do uh you know I I think A&M started to try to pull out some stops right some jet sweeps you know some toss and things to try to get to the outside try to test the young linebackers you know tackling in space you know all of those things and I believe it ended up being let's see one two three four five six a seven play drive that ended in a punt so to Sean's point the B constrictor starts to constrict a little bit more defense starts to settle in a little bit I thought this was a great second drive for the defense gets the ball back to the offense and the next Drive offensively you guys don't have anything that's cool hey offense gets the ball back this was proba this might have been the shortest offensive Drive I think of the night this was a three and out for Notre Dame but this is also the first time that we saw a little QB power where it was Riley Leonard this is a this is a design run we're getting it out we're QB power baby like here we come only got three yards but it's like okay here we go like Riley Leonard's part of this game plan with his legs so I did like that even though they went three and out because of an incomplete pass and then that was the one where Riley Leonard got some pressure on him and and like spun out of it and if he just gets that ball up a little there was green grass to run If he if he completes that pass right and it just ends up going into the grass what what an athletic play by him though I know he didn't complete the pass but like how the heck did he get out of that no it was wild I I think that that that early glimpse of the quarterback run game though I think is Big Vince because like we saw him obviously scramble a couple times but I'm here to tell you guys and I believe this and I know some people will not like this because he's our starting quarterback and he's coming off in an injury ridle season but Riley Leonard needs to be the short yardage Runner like he just needs to be I I like I I love Jeremiah love I think he'll turn into that guy at some point jorian price I think he could do a little bit of that maybe anas Williams or keer young could develop into that at some point this season but I want the ball in that kid's hands in the biggest moments like I just do I I think that that was one of the main takeaways so like yeah that drive obviously didn't go where he wanted to but I think you saw the elements of something big here not only just quarterback run game and big moments that we'll see I think that inkle be pass Vince like that was a show of there's gon to be some big plays this season because Riley Leonard has that special trait to him unfortunately just wasn't able to get enough on it under chaos to out to the the running back out to Ford but you know we still saw some glimpses of good in that drive it just Unfortunately they weren't able to sustain success in that drive obviously right well I I I appreciated their willingness to do it you know you hear all camp that Riley Leonard is back to fully healthy and even back in the spring game Marcus Freeman came in and said yeah I mean I fully believe if we suited up for a game to today it'd be hard to keep him off the field you know you hear all those things but I found a lot of comfort in that play calling wise Den Brock was completely fine for designed quarterback run plays for Riley Leonard that that put my mind at ease and then my mind got put at not a lot of ease because then I had to accept the fact that our starting quarterback is just going to be a part of the Run game pretty consistently so that's that's the flip side but Notre Dame doesn't have a lot of dual threat quarterbacks like that so I I I say all of that to say I'm I am happy with the decision to run him consistently I do think we can go back and look at the film and there are a couple of down and distance situations where miss having number seven in the backfield there were a couple of those but that's all new Kinks to this offense that will get figured out as the season goes on I have full confidence in that so they punt the ball three and out defense gets their third shot this is where they they do allow A&M to go eight yard eight plays 31 yards this is where they they kick the field goal to go up six to three this is the last time no spoiler alert last time the Notre Dame is trailing in this game uh was the third Drive for the defense and you know Colin Klein tried to throw a few different things at this defense right again Jet Sweep uh trying to get it to the outside again uh there were some penalties there was a wide receiver screen that Schuler actually made a really really good play on but just didn't come down with the tackle I think if he makes that tackle maybe he's out of field goal range right because I think once they broke the tackle he got another like eight yards and ended up being a 49 yard field goal so now you're talking about you know 55 56 57 plus of a field goal and I don't think they even attempt a field goal at that point so it was a great play to get there you just got to complete it right you just got to make that open field tackle uh but they do end up kicking the field goal they go up six to three any takeaways from this drive guys the only thing for me and this is more overarching not just with this drive specifically but for the defense I think that they played a fantastic game and it was awesome to see it it confirmed a lot of what we have all talked about about how good we think this Notre Dame defense can be I do think some of it and you can chalk it up to it's the first game of the season and I don't think they tackled poorly I think sometimes it was just a little sloppy you could tell sometimes they weren't bringing their feet they were reaching a little bit but I can almost guarantee you if you go back and watch the entire slate of all the college football games this weekend that was abundant in every game so again chalk that up to the things that I know will get corrected throughout the course the season but that's I mean I no real major complaints from the defense well I think it was mostly the young guys that were the ones missing in space which like you you you expect right I mean AD Don Schuler coming a little bit out of control Christian Gray missing a tackle in space like they're the young cats man they're going to miss one occasionally I mean it's especially in the first game playing against SEC speed so I I I understand that there were some M tackles or things to clean up but like I didn't have a major cause for concern with that performance defensively as far as tackling space because like honestly I expected Adon to maybe you know go a little out of control occasionally like I expected that that's why you love the kid and I mean like my push back and I think I mentioned in the chat Vince is like yes you would love him to come to balance and be able to make that play but I would argue that like if he comes to balance and doesn't really attack maybe they just pop it in general right and I mean he did force it back to at least the middle of the field but like either way young kids going to miss in space occasionally this game is about maturation the great news is that now you have a pretty easy three-game stretch until Louisville so that's where you really keep working on the small parts of the craft yeah Double R but we talk about it all the time they're GNA make mistakes right especially against good teams they were young on the offensive line they made mistakes but they fought their tails off they fought their butts off those two youngsters they fought their tails off what else can you ask what else can you ask you talk about the youngsters on defense yeah they made mistakes but they would come right back and make it impact the play yep which lets you know they're locked in forget that play I know I messed up I'm on to the next play right and that's what's so encouraging not just that these kids are talented but they're able to move on and that means as Trevor pointed out earlier they are a reflection of their head coach and their coaching staff when you see youngsters not allowing things to be a domino effect and snowball and they can let it go and move on and play the game it's fantastic to watch man it it was honestly it was ugly game but it was so many beautiful things in it right no doubt it's like a great horror film that's what it was like right a great horror film it really was so I want to combine kind of the next two drives right because you got you know you know Notre Dame goes I think six six or seven and out six and out they punt the ball away but then on the first defensive play of the next Drive that's where you get the pick by Adon Schuler so we we just gave ad Don Schuler a hard time for maybe not making a tackle in space but then he comes right back and which is really the next play that he's on the field by the way because I don't even know if he's on field goal block doesn't really matter right so the very next play he's on the field he ends up playing a great center field yes it was an overthrow I get it might might be the easiest pick of his career at the end of the day but he was in the right place at the right time makes that pick which then leads Notre Dame to yet another scoring drive only a field goal which to be honest with you was a little disappointing given you know the turnover and the change of momentum and you know all of those things you want to punch it into the end zone but they did put points on the board they tie up the game at six and the play is made by the young cat of Don Schuler after making what you could call all a mistake I get where you're coming from Ryan but you know he misses the tackle then he comes right back and makes the interception huge yeah no it it was massive because I would say too is like on that play and I can't wait to see the all 22 angle on it but it looked like it on the broadcast that Adam was in a good position that if that guy if it was a catchable pass there would have been a major Collision there right and there probably would who knows if he would have held on if it would have been a pass you know a broken up pass like who knows what would have happened but he was in the right spot and I think you just saw the flash of athleticism especially after he caught the football I'm like again we're doing the all due respect thing tonight like all due respect to DJ Brown it's probably not an interception on that play more than likely I mean it the the back end was just so athletic tonight it really was I mean because again we'll talk about like Adon Schuler coming out of control in that one play that we talked about Ray Vince we'll talk about Christian gry missing in space and having the pass interference during the game but like this was from every starter included both Corners both safeties you give you throw Jordan Clark in there as far as like the starting secondary this was the most athletic secondary from player one to player four that I have seen in several years because like last year yes Cam Hart was a freaky Athlete on the other side of Benjamin Morrison and you still had Xavier Watts but like upgrading the athleticism at Scher compared to DJ Brown like that is immense man that's that really is so Notre Dame Secondary is is scary guys like it's not going to be fun for some of these teams because there's not a lot of great passing offenses especially kind of down the stretch like there's really not I mean Florida state has their questions Louisville should be good in theory under coach Braum but like who knows about the quarterback position this secondary is legit and I think that you saw the emergence of Adon Scher on that drive and throughout this contest yeah R I watched a little bit of Northern Illinois yeah I watched my Miami Ohio against Northwestern today double it's like these might be like backtack shutouts this this could get real ugly but I do think Frank Martin they like to spread it out a little bit they like their quarterback he's coming back from a little bit of an injury so I think they might challenge a little bit early just schematically to see how they attack the defense and attack Al golden but you're right there's not too much meat on the bone when it comes to offenses left on the uh that are really going to challenge this fighting Irish defense right so only a couple of more drives in the first half will kind of you know quickly get through them I think that the Highlight the next defensive highlight was the the lone sack of the game by by Howard cross third and 12 you know a chance kind of for the defensive line to pin their ears back you know come after Connor wigman got him forces the punt makes makes it fourth and 23 they lose like 11 yards on that one I was a huge play and a huge moment for Howard cross because look they were moving the football right they had a couple of first downs already on that drive they were moving the football this was immediately following the scoring drive for Notre Dame so this was an opportunity for A&M to answer the score with a potential score Howard cross comes through gets the sack who knew with all of the question marks for both offensive lines in this game and it felt like there it felt like there was a an A&M offensive lineman going down like every other play like that I don't know if they were coming back in if they were going I don't know what the situation was but I just saw a lot of big guys going down for them but no sacks giving up by Notre Dame's offensive line this entire game no sacks and I would venture to guess maybe on one hand the amount of hurries I haven't looked at Pro Football Focus or if that's even up yet I Leonard got hit a couple times but no no sacks there one because he spun out of it and was just an amazing athlete one he got hit pry hard those are the two that I remember specifically but no sacks right got to give the o line some credit on that one obviously but you also have to give R you know we talked about it right having Riley Leonard as the quarterback is also going to mitigate those sack totals and things like that but I want to you know tip my hat to Howard cross the lone sack of the game in a very important time it was you know like I said it was third down and it it forced that punt by Texas A&M not Dame gets the ball back doesn't do anything with it really uh Flags penalties pretty much kill bad Drive uh kind of a kind of a theme obviously uh then the defense gets the ball and then it's pretty much halftime so thoughts on the first half guys overall going into halftime 66 where's your head at going into half well I I put I put an article out after kind of a recap piece I mean and I kind of broke it down first half to second half but like the first half for me was the Battle of two offenses that were trying to get comfortable and there were a lot of mistakes and that both went from a penalty perspective and just not a capitalizing on opportunity perspective and it was a battle of defenses I mean it really was I think that Texas A&M's defense came to play especially for the most part in the first half I thought they did a really good job I mean we were like in the second quarter at one point and I think Notre Dame had 15 yards in at one point like it was until jadarian broke that long one that got called back and then Jeremiah broke one like the play after that right so it was a defensive battle in the first half I think what you saw was Al golden year three the defense knows what they're doing they have young talent that was filling in but I think that there was a there was a standard on the defensive side of the football I think the offense was still trying to figure that out a little bit especially in the first half and I don't even know if they fully figured that out tonight which is the interesting part right so I think we saw a offense in flux trying to find their footing for Notre Dame and I think that their defense played a fantastic game which is why it was a 66 ball game at Halftime go ahead Trev I was gonna say you you could definitely tell the difference of experience on either side of the ball defensively you could tell they had been in this situation before they've played in front of this type of environment at this type of magnitude and on offense they were still getting their feet wet a little bit and they played well enough to where they didn't make that catastrophic mistake that I think based on how the game was being called Kirk herb Street was just waiting for it to happen for somebody to do it but it it it to me was very much offense was getting comfortable you had three transfer wide receivers very much in the rotation new starting quarterback a young offensive line as we were so kindly reminded of every second that that did did you know they only had six career starts as a unit did you know that I did Anthony knp is in fact a true freshman yes so and now everybody knows um but I think it was it was a tale of two different kinds of experience in this game defensively you could tell Notre Dame was very okay this is just kind of what we do now and on offense it was what do we do now so and it was cool to see that progression in the second half CH will'll Get to Trevor let me let me throw this back at you do you think I agree with you by the way completely do you think the not only what were the young guys on offense kind of you know getting their feet wet kind of feeling their way through it to a degree in the first half you think part of that was also Mike denrock kind of feeling his way trying to get to know his guys what they can do in a game you know what that looks like with these guys playing together and you know all of that you think that's part of it too I do 100% I think it's complimentary because you don't want to throw something at your guy that they're not ready for and it doesn't want to be like a a baptism Under Fire sort of thing it's like I think they're ready for this so let's try this play out it's you started to see it in the play calling it was a little bit more and then a little bit more and it's like all right let's see if you almost kind of knock it out in tears right right all right well let's see the offensive line could hold up for this type of play let's see if we can push the ball a bit farther yeah you know they were okay with this line game they tried to do a little bit of tight end coming back on a on a crackback motion you know so left guard could move up to second level they did that well a couple times but that was more in the second half they tried it once in the first half and it was like Cooper Flanigan missed a block let's go away from that so to your point I think it I I think it was a little bit of both it was Mike Den Brock was almost waiting for his players to get more comfortable so then he would get more comfortable yeah I look at it as a heavyweight fight right and Notre Dame as I said before I think Mike denrock showed a ton of patience as a play caller tonight I think he really did and they had a game plan going in I think they felt like because of the situation it was going to be a fourth quarter game either them being ahead having to hold Texas A&M off or what eventually ended up happening it being a tie game going to the fourth quar either way they knew the fourth quarter is going to be where we separate ourselves and they prepared themselves and had a game plan for that so you know sometimes D we talk about this so much man sometimes you just want to skip down the script right based upon situations and things acting frantically Vince you've been a coach like you know as a you know you go take a picture out like one batter twoo soon or you leave them in you know it's like that's the battle Within as a coach like knowing the right time being patient and staying with you guys and I think he did an incredible job of staying with rowny Leonard um he did an incredible job staying with his offensive line he did an incredible job playing to what he knew he had defensively I know I have a great defense that they can't do anything against good point so there's no reason for me to panic there's no reason for me to make a mistake as a play caller eventually we have set up to dominate the fourth quarter and that's exactly what they did so you know that for me is something that I think really stands out that connects to what Trevor was talking about and what Double R stated you know at halftime it was almost like all right let's let's hit the gas for me it was just like all right let's hit the gas because this crap we just put on the field and like Double R said we did this and there it's a tie game right oh and we already know they can't do anything offensively let's go you know I think we're this this could be a very dangerous team ladies and gents very dangerous team agreed I my my biggest take my biggest thought process in in you know at halftime uh outside of making making sure my kids were going to go to bed so you know I could actually enjoy the second half was you know let's see what Mike Den Brock's going to do you know I want to see now let's see the adjustments at halftime let's see where Notre Dame is coming out because they're going to receive right we knew they were going to get the ball first you know let's see what they think is working what they think is not working let's see what happens here in the second half that that was my biggest takeaway because you're right as bad as we think that they played offensively and I don't think anybody's going to stand here and be like that offense that we saw in the first half is going to win them a national championship none of us are sitting here saying that by any stretch of the imagination right so it was okay what are they going to do in the second half to change it up you know to to you know they've now seen it they they've seen what Elco wants to do defensively against them what are they going to do right so here they go nerd Dame gets the ball pass to Flanigan nine yards run run run on fourth down uh incomplete to Ford in the flat which is essentially a run run Scramble for for 10 and then you get to the fourth down play that should have been a first down that they reviewed and they said it wasn't a first down but I think you kind of saw okay we think we can run against these guys we think that there's something here that we can do and we can use Riley as well to force the issue in the Run game I mean look Marcus Freeman said it at a halftime well we're run first team and anybody that doesn't understand that hasn't been paying attention he's he wants to be a run first team he wants to be explosive in the air but he also wants to be a run first team I think you kind of saw where things were headed in that first drive fellas I I I really do and we can get to the call you know the overturn the non- overturn whatever fourth down turnover on Downs whole the whole thing right but I think you saw in that drive what they were trying to they wanted to establish something in that first drive yeah I agree and and he's been very consistent in that messaging is controlling the line of scrimmage on both offense and defense but and obviously it it paid off the the two touchdowns Notre Dame scored were both on the ground so uh you can you can look back and say that it worked so uh I I appreciate that and it it goes to the level of consistency that Marcus Freeman has had since he's been here in South Bend but yeah definitely definitely look to establish the Run game and especially after they started breaking off some big ones and then the call the call was tough that was that was yeah that was a fun one they had momentum obviously I think they were moving the football maybe maybe not in the big chunk way that a lot of people wanted them to move the football but this is also a point where I think we learned something about Marcus Freeman right like he had he was he was telling his offensive line boys I got faith in you that you're going to be able to get this right and it's also I've got faith in Riley Leonard he's going to be able to carry the football and do what he needs to do to get a first down look Le let's just all say it he got the first down okay and so his faith was realized in that moment now if Jeremiah Love gets that block a little bit better than we we don't have a replay and we don't have an issue okay I mean he might even score to be honest with you because A&M had everybody in the box and there was nobody on the second level he missed the block but he still got the first down okay I think going forward on those two fourth Downs I I think that I think he was sending a message to his offense I really do and people can complain and they can say that he should have punted it or he should have done this he should have done that in my opinion I think he was sending a message to his team and you can do that by the way when you know you have a fraking amazing defense okay yeah that's number one but I think he was also sending a message to his offensive line and his offense to say boys I got faith in you go get this first down they rewarded him with it it was the right call I mean I mean M did he go for fourth down twice right was it twice or was it three twice in that it was twice in that uh in that drive alone yeah I don't know if it was more than that another part of the game but there was no there was never a fourth down conversion tonight I can't remember if it was two or three times there was never one where I said that is a terrible decision why are you going for it there even where Riley quote unquote got stopped that we disagree with right like it was still the right call it's still was in my opinion because you hit on a key a key point there Vince is that when your defense is playing that well you can lean on them a little bit right and you can take some chances as far as being very aggressive on fourth down but like it was it was the right decision I think and and honestly if we want to talk about growth of Marcus Freeman I I think a couple things that have kind of bothered me over the last couple years is that there are have been some like fourth down calls both positive both him going for it or choosing not to go for it where I did question at the time of like I don't know if that was the right decision whether it worked out or didn't work out like I'm not sure if that's the right decision or not but tonight I think that he made calculated risks and I was totally fine especially for with that one like even though Riley got stopped Tech whatever I I do think that it was the right call I do yeah the the still picture of that still blows my mind but luckily that did not force the outcome of the game which is obviously a very very good thing because then Notre Dame you know the defense steps up they allow one first down on the next Drive essentially he go three and out or four and out after that because A&M goes forward on fourth down I believe that's the one where they thought that Notre Dame jumped off sides and they so they thought they had a free play and so he just put it out there so it was kind of a no play but Notre Dame clearly did not jump off sides thank goodness they didn't call it because with the way things were going I wouldn't have been surprised if they did uh but Notre Dame gets the ball back fourth down they take what is it four plays 63 yards score a touchdown great run by Price obviously I mean that move that he put on that kid in the second level turned a five yard gain into a 47 yard touchdown I mean it was that juke move and then the speed to get to the outside and it was like Deuces like I was like that's a touchdown everybody in the in the house knew that was going to be a score I mean what a relief at that point I I was monitoring in the boards tonight and the negativity when it was 66 was just like off the charts and then like instantly 47 yard run and all of a sudden Notre Dame's goingon to win the national title like you want to talk about a roller coaster of emotions uh but that was I mean that was massive that that was huge for the offense it was huge for Notre Dame got him in the lead obviously we'll talk about what happens next but in that moment that was a that was a pretty massive uh four-play Drive Sean we we've talked about this a ton we we always use the phrase they move differently right well what does move differently exactly mean we saw it on that play by price we saw it with Jeremiah Love who bent one back towards the sideline as well during this game we saw it with Riley Leonard multiple times that was an SEC defense guys like we can we can talk about the transition and how they need to get better and and yeah Tex A&M is not nearly a finished product I do think in a year or two that coach Elko is going to have that team humming I really do as far as how he's developing quickly and how he's going recruit at Texas A&M but Nick scaron is a beast I mean he is torian York is a really good football player there's some dudes in that secondary that I I thought impressed me a decent amount the greatest part about that run that you're talking about Vince for jadarian is he made Texas A&M's best linebacker not the not like a guy that we've never heard of like that was Tori that was torian York who's a freshman All-American last year that's a really good player he made look silly bented back to the sideline and then he showcases the athleticism and the explosiveness that he has so yeah you want to talk about Notre Dame Bridging the Gap or closing the Gap from SEC speed and Notre Dame speed Notre Dame had the Speed tonight guys they had the the they had the advantage on speed in the speed department and I think that price showcased it on that run yeah no doubt about it what do you think he would have been without the Achilles yeah seriously we're watching this kid after an Achilles which which is years ago was pretty much the end of a career athletically and the way he's come back from that and I credit once again them last year taking their time with him he really didn't start picking up carries until like the middle of the season and he spent most of his time on special teams and you saw him towards the end of the season really come on that with itself you know year to what we're seeing now the dividends they're reaping now having the patience within the program to say we're going to take our time of course it's easier when you have the Hulk in the back field that can carry the load but yo to see him make that run um knowing what he went through Vince we've been the practices when he was over there strictly riding a bike yep we we saw him going through it yep and the frustration and to see this young man have a game like tonight and have a run like that you know you have to be extremely happy for him oh yeah you know on tonight and uh it was funny because he said it he was amped for this game didn't get a Texas A&M offer said he was gonna have upwards to 25 to 30 people in the stands no I think he said it's close to 40 if I'm not mistaken so that's aw yeah that was that was huge for him in front of his people that was huge [Music] defense gets on the field forces a punt offense gets goes three and out unfortunately almost through a pick which would have been pretty massive at that point I mean I actually got to kind of give a little bit of credit to Thomas for you know I I he didn't necessarily break it up as as an offensive player but he kept fighting for the ball which prevented Texas A&M from intercepting it right so it's not like he turned you know like they always say oh he turned into a Defender and you know blah blah blah that's not what happened but he kept fighting for the football and prevented the interception from occurring which clearly ended up being huge because even in the next drive that's when A&M goes down the field puts a touchdown on the board 10 plays 65 yards they almost four-minute drive then as Ryan would say and I don't want to take words out of his mouth but this is where the PTSD I think hit hard for me personally it's like hey no has all the momentum at this point A&M gets the ball they go 65 yards it was just like a methodic run the ball Scramble for a first down like yeah just you know then you had the pi on Mickey and you had another flag with the hands to the face for cross so two massive penalties on that drive and then just runs I think that's what worried me the most it was they were just running the football running the football and penalties and then they go down and score they tie it up at 13 and I'm like okay this is not this is not a great place uh for Notre Dame to be where were your guys' heads at at this point in the game I mean I I had that PTSD feeling because I I Texas A&M who was a big offensive line that we had talked countlessly about going into this game they bullied Notre Dame on that drive I mean call what it is I mean Donan Donovan heines Howard cross Riley Mills I think Jason on was on that drive as well like they got moved off the spots I felt like Osberry was a little bit out of sync as far as like his keys especially on that drive I think Drake bone was a little bit invisible up into that point and like Jack Kaiser was fine for the most part but like even he was a little slow scraping on that drive in general so I think that that drive particular Texas A&M looked like they kind of put their head down and were trying to make a statement of like how the rest of the second half is going to go if you're Texas A&M versus Notre Dame because the passing game was not working so Tex had to resort to Le'Veon moss and the pretty talented running back room that they have and so they took it to him they put their head down but I think that obviously that was a that was kind of an outlier drive when now that you kind of take a step and look back because Notre Dame did was able to match physicality but that drive I think it was a they were trying to set the tone physically for me has I think Colin Klein had his techmoo moment of the night on that drive cuz he had some perfect plays called he and anticipated what Al golden was going to come with and he had the perfect counter to what he called as far as the Blitz and they popped a couple and the play I know the one play you're talking about where uh I believe the guard came through and uh Drake just didn't step up as fast and fi as fast as he needed to and then kind of shed the block and make the tackles that was the only way that they were going to stop that play Drake was going to have to make a perfect play meet the blockers shed him and maybe you know stop him for about a four or five yard game but yeah you just have to give credit like d said they bullied them Colin Klein had some really good calls and the frustration of Howard cross once again not that Ain still helping like at at Texas A&M's best they still needed help with two penalties and Drake and to talk about that Drake made a couple of plays on that drive the one by the goal line where he scraped down yes and made a good play he came from like like an outside nine technique basically and just kind of stayed stayed followed followed and then just exploded into the hole to make that play it was actually for once it was actually a really good replay uh by ESPN to kind of reshow that one uh but that was that was a great play by a young linebacker I mean that was a heady play followed the play and then just exp like his explosion on that I think is what really stood out to me because he was at the second level and then just bam exploded down met him in the hole and made that play that that was that was a huge that was a hug I think that was the play right before the touchdown if I'm not misten yep it was it was Trevor what were you thinking at this point 13313 man PTSD definitely started to kick in I'll follow suit there for sure um but but I will say it it's so tough to ask a defense to play lights out every single possession right and even even in the moment I was well here we go again and then took a step back and it was like I mean up until this point they've been pretty locked down for the most part but again that PTSD in the back of your head it's like well I've seen games before where Notre Dame's defense is pretty locked down until they very much aren't right and then it just starts to Cascade and happy that they were able to I mean call it the outlier drive with a couple of assists from Notre Dame penalties so you know very I I don't want to say I was feeling uneasy I don't I don't think the world was on fire yet for me at that point but it was very much a all right offense let's see let's see what you got now oh man I I was I was the dog meme with just like the fire in the background like that's what I was feeling man things were burning things were burning in my head a little bit more positive vibes out of me this weekend so I think just naturally I I think I'm I'm airing on the side of of good things but but no there was definitely a little bit of well this was going really well and here we are again and and uh obviously it ended up working out in our favor for sure no it was definitely a moment of elation and like okay I've got faith this defense isn't going to let them score a touchdown so that touchdown the noted aim scored is huge like here we go you know they need one more nail in the coffin call it a day you know fire up the jet it's time to get back to Indiana like that was my thought process and then they just kind of had that methodic drive down the field and it was like okay they just put one in the end zone what does this offense have to respond to that if anything right because frankly I didn't want to go into overtime in that Stadium you know what I mean I I didn't want to have to do that like that is not where my mind was now there was still obviously time left on the clock there's more possession to come Notre Dame gets the ball back offensively uh they were they did okay but they ended up punting uh I believe it was a let's see one two three four five like a six-play drive there was a FSE start by Pendleton in that drive uh you know it was a bad one because the noise in there I'm sure was deafening you know he jumps off on a third and 13 makes it third and 18 and then you get the wide receiver screen to great house to kind of cut it in half but obviously you punt at that point it's Fourth and nine you kick it away the defense three and out ball back and now we get to the biggest Drive of the ball game right fellas I mean Notre Dame goes down the field and this was the you know it was it was a bit of a Riley Leonard drive it was a um you know it was a love drive it was I mean it was culminated obviously in the 21 yard touchdown run by Jeremiah love but that was also coming back from a big a big timeout right and so eight plays 85 yards go-ahead touchdown scored I've never felt that kind of relief uh in a in a very very long time so fellas we're going from the uh the burning in the background Emoji for or meme for Ryan to Now They're Up 20 to 13 thoughts on the drive Ryan thoughts on uh you know just the whole situation at that point being up a touchdown so I was working on a recap piece for after the game and Vince I started writing it very positively you'd be very proud of me okay I was like the game the the the ball got back to them you know less than the 20 yard line a little over six minutes left and Notre Dame put together this fantastic drive very but it sounded fictional to me man like it did I it I wrote it and I'm just like I'm gonna have to erase this whole thing right like I'm just GNA have to start this from scratch and this is what I'm talking about though this was the moment that felt different we always talk about different yep they look they move different they look different this feels different like what's different it's not different until it it it actually is right and I think that that moments was one of those where as a person that grew up in the that was born in the 90s I'm a 1991 kid where I've never seen a Notre Dame National Championship you always hear about the people that did live in the old Golden Era talk about oh man that team like when in the biggest moments you knew they were going to come through and Coach Holtz and all these guys and they're that you just knew it there was a subtle confidence to them and and I have never experienced that personally right like I haven't I started you know really watching in the Bob Davy era and then into the Tai Willingham era and then Charlie Weiss and then Brian Kelly like I've never outside of maybe 2005 to in small Snippets I never remember going into a football game or having that moment at the end of a game where I'm like Notre Dame is a better team they're going to win like they're just going to flat out win like they're their backs are against the wall people are counting them out and they're going to win the football game like that just does not typically happen and that was a moments of realization for me because I wrote down the positive outlook and what should and potentially could happen and then Notre Dame did it right and like in that moment those realities clicked that what I perceived to be a fictional reality became the actual reality and I'll be honest guys I left this game although it wasn't perfect and Notre Dame needs to get better and and and things need to move forward and this is not the team that we're going to see all year hopefully yeah I believe that this team can be different I do and we could talk about the preseason High and the preseason optimism but you have that moment that oh this might be a little bit different here then it's not real and tonight it felt real and that was the moment that drive that I think could be a jumping off point for this team I don't want to get too far ahead of myself this is game one but there was something that felt mythical unreal about that moment that quickly did become reality for me R you want to know how special that run by Jeremiah Love was MH they pan to the sideline he's sitting next to d McCulla and de MC is looking at the iPad like like dude that's crazy like you're the coach is sitting next to him like do you see what you just did because literally the hole was like I don't even know if you can call that a hole it was like a crevice and how he got small and on one leg was able to land and immediately shift and get right back to top speed and then power through for the touchdown like you said it's just different it's just different and Ryan we've had the privilege of watching him and covering him since his junior year of high school and saying this kid is different you have to get this kid he's different and to see it finally come into fruition on a larger scale because we've seen you know the big run he had early in the year last year the move he had in the sunbowl catching the pass out of the back field for the touchdown you see bits and pieces right but today to see him and jarian go back to back right one run gets called back and then they go right back and next one has a big run that's the excitement like oh my like alri was just a battering ram right he was just a battering ram this is different from the running back position which is why I was ready for aldri to leave I know most fans were like oh man I wish alri could come back and I was like No let let him let him go because what we have coming behind him really has a chance to be like next level and not next level against the majority of the schedule I'm talking about next level when we Face Tech Texas next level when we Face Georgia next level if we Face Alabama we okay now we step on the field with some real difference makers some real Gap closers and like Double R said fortunately I did watch the 88 Championship so I I kind of hold on to that but yo it's it's been a long time it's been a long time since we had that type of feeling and it's tangible right R it's not like just hope it's literally like tangible like you you know it you really believe it and it's it's a cool feeling guys I gu one game hey I'll take this over the loss I'll take this over loss no doubt Trevor yeah I it's nice knowing that all of the talk about how fast and how long and how athletic this team is has came to fruition and that's what that final drive told me which is awesome in my lifetime I have not seen in a game of this magnitude with this much on the line and this environment the Notre Dame team just was better like they were the more athletic team typically we were on the flip side of that coin and and a lot of times when we talk about well we won that game because Notre Dame was just more athletic that's not against Texas A&M at night at Kyle Field that's at home against Virginia right that's on the road against an NC State team who on paper should have been better than what they were but it wasn't this and to me that's what that showed I was I was telling my buddy that I was I was watching the game with guarantee a lot of the conversation on that sideline was you know Den brocko or guli going over to Riley Leonard and saying hey it's your time now this is why we brought you to South Bend it's time to go and you know the first five plays all ran through him an unsung hero of this game to me was Bo Collins because the wide receiver room has been scrutinized for the last couple years of you guys just don't have that guy you don't have the playmaker and I know his stats won't jump off of the page for you to me Bo Collins was Mr reliable tonight and then on that was was that that 24 28 yard jump ball the 5050 ball first of all I can't tell you the last time I saw a Notre Dame quarterback just throw up a 50-50 ball as like see it last year that's for sure he did not see it last year no and you know Notre Dame's guy went up and got it because he was just better yeah the the shove at the end the fan in me was very hype about that because that's like a I'm better than you and now I know it but from from a schematic standpoint of uh we've shot ourselves in the foot a lot tonight I the last thing I needed to see was the ref that was standing behind him throw out the throw out the hanky in his pocket but it but all of that and then you cap it off with that run by Jeremiah Love which should have been a two yard gain let's be real and and what he was able to turn that into after that drive I sat back on the couch and it was like so this is what it feels like that your team is just the better team and we always talk about Notre Dame closing the Gap and getting to that point I I I think we have now I don't want to say overcame that Gap I'm not ready to say Notre Dame is just like Texas and Alabama you know but it is it is closer because in years past even if we would have even if Notre Dame squeaks out a win in years past it's not by double digits look at the Florida State game in 2021 that went into double overtime and I don't think Florida State in 2021 was the team that they were last year when we when we had played them so it's I I think that's the overall difference and I think that's really exciting to see and could I say one more thing Vince is that like that also that drive and we we haven't talked about it enough I don't think tonight just because of how we're kind of doing the show a little bit differently the offensive line grew up right like right in front of our eyes really did I mean because like Anthony G battled all nights but like in the first half especially you saw like scon got him a couple times like it it just was just going to happen and then there was a reason they put him I mean they put scard in on him almost every single time on purpose I mean yes no doubt correct yeah yeah that would have been the matchup you would saw all night if they could have dictated it all night right yep samon I thought was mostly really good in the Run game tonight but like he had a couple hiccups as far as I don't think recognizing different pressure packages up front I think he probably should have slid and kind of just help in different directions but like that's again teachable stuff but regardless this offensive line looks like it could be an issue especially early in this game and in the biggest moment when you're tied 13 all and you need a drive they they came out and played against scaron and Shamar Stewart and Shamar Turner I mean those guys were invisible that drive because Sam Pendleton did some great things Anthony nap did some great things Emil Wagner I feel like I didn't really notice Emil Wagner tonight which is a very good thing for the most part right and Ashton Craig and and Billy schr I really felt like that was a drive late in that game where you saw Yes they're young six career starts blah blah blah I know Trevor loves that line right coming into this game but this was a moment where we saw everyone's been waiting anxiously all offseason is Joe rudol gonna turn this thing around is is he gonna be able to Fig well well he he got the best out of those guys in the most important part of the game so like it's not a finished product you don't know 100% how good the offensive Line's going to be but I saw progress tonight and I saw the team battled but I saw that offensive line I think grow up right before her eyes y completely agree with that completely I I don't want to step on you Sean you got something no I just wanted to say a r we I think we could leave Joan uh coach Rudolph alone about getting rid of that one guy that went to Penn State and and going after the nap I I think we're done I I was actually just looking at the Penn State roster and I saw I saw good old Caleb Brewer on on the on the roster which kind of brought back some bad memories but yes I think we can let it go for now we can let it go Double R we held on to it far too long now it's like okay it's time to let it go yeah that's a big win for Joe Rudolph on multiple levels collectively as a group yeah how they grew up and adjusted in that game how they fought those two youngsters and Anthony knap is a huge win from evaluation closing the deal in recruiting and then developing and having that kid Vince you look you watched the film more than I do and you watch the line more than I do look we know everybody else was like really freshman and we're like if they say he's better it's believable right I mean it's believable like because we we've been there you paid attention I've heard you talk about it it wasn't far-fetched and one of the things I said last week he just did this at LSU he did it with Will Campbell now Will Campbell was highly touted more highly touted but he just did it first year transferred quarterback left tackle true fresh he just did it so he knew what he needed to do to have that young man positioned to play the best he could and that is the benefit of having Mike denrock in this game it paid huge dividends in multiple ways in my opinion so I just want to go through this particular drive and and what they did right so first and 10 quarterback run nine yards right and that was a heck of a run that's the one where he kind of got stood up almost at the line of scrimmage and just kind of forced his way for nine yards then love had a negative four and then possibly Riley Leonard's best throw of the night and you guys correct me if I'm wrong number one he had time to throw it number two it was an out route that he put exactly where it needed to be for for great house to uh get the first down on third thir down too on a third down third and five he allowed it to he he threw it as soon as great house gets out of his break I mean put it right in the Bread Basket like I think that was his best throw of the night because he had time he stepped into it made a great throw so huge third down play there then you get the first and 10 they go right back to the air with Collins and that big catch on the sideline that back shoulder right then you get another quarterback run for 12 then you get a love run for 18 then you get a love run for one you go to timeout go to the commercial break you come back and Brian spoils it for everyone and lets us know that love scores a touchdown from 21 yards out so uh and just so everybody understands what that means is we had our group chat going and all of a sudden we see let's go with a bunch of exclamation points and I'm probably two minutes away I felt like from the actual play being run on my TV but obviously I knew something good was coming uh so it was okay it was still just as exciting frankly but uh yeah Brian Brian spoiled it for us uh on that one was pretty funny but you know big runs big throws as Ryan said the offensive line grows up on that drive Notre Dame goes up 20 to3 now the only negative as I'm going through all the worst case scenarios in my head at that point was crap they left too much time on the clock and A&M's got a ton of timeouts right so it's like okay still plenty of time for me to be freaking out and watching this game and for all the bad stuff that I have seen over the years to happen um and again did not want to go to overtime in that stadium in that moment right so Notre Dame gets or Notre Dame uh you know kicks off A&M gets the ball four and out huge pass breakup by Christian Gray on that fourth down at that point every every body just kind of exhales and then of course Mitch Jeter puts up a field goal just to seal it and just prove that the kicking game actually matters in football which I love and boom we all we all celebrate and get ready for the show so boys how are we feeling at that point uh in the in the game touchdown four and out field goal ball game it's fantastic if I were to write down how I wanted the game to end that's how I wanted it to end outside of outside of maybe a pick six instead of a a field goal just to really put the icing on the cake but but no it it was good that the the team finished the the game the way that they needed to which I really appreciate and and for whatever reason this is also it was also kind of like a I don't know like a little sub moment of PTSD for me I felt good about it but I felt like I shouldn't be yet cuz triple zeros weren't on the clock you know what I mean and so once we I don't know what on once I saw what happened in the in the chat I I typically keep my phone turned the other way when I'm watching games um just in case somebody else texts me or or you know now this group chat or ESN likes to send me notifications before stuff happens now before I get to see it which is great so I just don't really get on my phone a whole lot but but Notre Dame finished out the game the way that they needed to and it was so nice and I know we've been talking about it all night but in every scenario in the second half where they needed to do something they needed to get a stop they needed to answer they needed to go down the field and do insert whatever they did to win the game here they did it and they did it emphatically and they did it with their more athletic football team which is really nice to say right all right boys that's going to do it for our recap of the game uh kind of a new segment that uh that we're rolling out so we'll we'll we'll uh check and see how we think we did on that and see if we're going to bring that back uh you know next Saturday after the uh the first home game uh of the of the season but uh so that's going to do it for our recap make sure you hit the like button the Subscribe button the notification Bell share with your family and friends all that fun stuff and of course boards at Irish breakdown. comom if you want to ride that roller coaster of emotion with all the board members you know in the chat uh during the game ride that roller coaster baby it's the it's the best money you can buy I tell you what so uh hop on over uh at boards. Irish breakdown. comom for all your excitement during game day and then of course all the recap and then predictions for the following week that's it's the best place to get it fellas no no doubt about that all right time to call a bill bit of an audible because the boss man is back in the hotel in College Station down there amongst the hund whatever thousand people sad folks probably 100,000 sad folks tonight you didn't get any fights or anything did you no man you know me that's not how I roll man I only with you that's only I'm with you that's fair that's fair some guy Taco I ended up telling cancel my order I gotta go do a show man y'all are taking freaking forever Taco Bell but had a guy tell me you need to fire the offensive coordinator bench Conor Wegman and I was like so Notre nam's defense had nothing to do with right no man I'm like okay all right okay but I I was told on good authority and I I ready am I able to start my rant like now can I just go are you just go this is the Brian Driscoll rant segment so you it's all you brother so I was told on good authority that from Chris Bower's clown you know what that this is the better defenses are coming down the road because apparently Chris Fowler has never watched Notre name play defense in the last two years gosh all right number one okay but there was I just cannot wait to watch all these clowns at ESPN just make themselves look like fools all week talking themselves out of why this wasn't that big of a win for Notre Dame after all those clowns went and picked Texas A&M and all they had to do like they're just sit talking about this and like you guys do know that Notre Dam has a defense too right I did watch that team hold Ohio State to less than 20 points per game the last two years right the team that y'all picked to win it every year other than Georgia right I mean and they held him to less 20 PS Marvin Harrison didn't even go for 100 yards against nerd a not in a game in two games combined but we're gonna act like Notre Dame doesn't have the best you know the best defense on that field tonight we're gonna act like that is their dline legit they showed it tonight that's a good defensive line there's no doubt that's a good defensive line I it's them Louisville right now what I've seen so far this year might have the two best D lines that I've seen that not's gonna face I I would have said Florida State preseason but after watching them get pushed around by Georgia Tech I'm not as concerned about that one but it just and for all the Notre Dame fans the spent all the last two weeks talking about they don't win games like this they I don't want to hear you talking about A&M's not that good I don't hear talking about oh you know Conor webman is not as good look the fact of the matter is this Vince you know this Ryan you coach football you know this the two best feelings you can have as a football coach is when you play good football team number one to dominate a really good football team right number two is to not play your best not do all the things you need to do but grind it out be gritty and say hey you know what you watch the film there is a lot to clean up 10 plus penalties M tackling tonight I I can't wait to count the extra yards A&M got after first Contact after the game tonight yeah and that stuff proved crucial a d Scher I thought was was so good tonight in so many ways I mean just great reads all over the field but how many times did he hit a guy not wrap up and let them get four or five yards out afterwards including on one play where he sniffs does a great job sniffing out the screen and then goes out of control doesn't tackle the guy he gets five yards and all of a sudden they're at 49 yard field goal range he makes that stop they're at 55 now they got some tough decisions to make you GNA try a longer field goal or you gonna punt the ball and try to play field position right so when you watch this game tonight fellas linebacker play I mean I can't wait to talk to Ryan after he watches this game again and we can talk about the linebacker play it's got to get a lot better the old Line's got a lot to clean up pass br's got a lot to clean up Riley Leonard had multiple missed opportunities night the pass game but they went on the road and beat a team by 10 that a lot of people in this chat and everybody on the ESP and outside of a guy who's like almost 90 picked to beat Notre Dame Nick sain picked A&M oh the environment the envir just because your team struggled with that environment the last two times you went down there doesn't mean Notre Dame is gonna struggle with it tonight oh I don't know if they can handle the heat all I know is I saw A&M players cramping up in the fourth quarter this game not Notre Dame players oh they know but the old line they went for a buck 98 on a team that gave up 108 yards per game on the ground last year oh they don't have enough speed the team in white and gold was the fastest team on the field tonight I mean all the the the false narratives that Sean you and I have just been going back and forth on the phone about the last two weeks I just wanted to scream I almost went off on my show Friday I had to hold myself back because I'm so sick of these narratives they're just not based on reality but emotions and what was true 10 years ago this isn't Brian Kelly's Notre Dame anymore folks this is a different era and you know you talk about the quarterback people are crying and whining about the quarterback Ry Leonard's got to play a lot better than he did tonight no doubt missed a big opportunity Devin Ford might still be running he might be to like Oklahoma by now if he hits him when they were backed up and he's and he's scrambling right he he's had missed him in the end zone he's got to hit Jeremiah Love on that on that slot fade he's got to get that ball up to Bo Collins on the deep end cut there was a lot of opportunities there for ner to run A&M but he did two things tonight fellas that I absolutely loved number one even when the pass game's not there he's a playmaker past quarterbacks love Jack Hartman Jack Jack Co love Sam Hartman but if their throwing game wasn't there they brought nothing to the table right Riley Leonard tonight what 63 yards on 12 carries showed that even when the passing game's not there he can be a playmaker and just little things like sliding staying in bounds on that last that that that last touchdown Drive letting that clock run knowing the situation smart football and the other thing too he was so calm tonight every time something was about to get ramped up Jaden Thomas is losing his mind on that penalty he got and I understand where Jaden's coming from he's thinking the tight end did his job and stayed behind the line of scrimmage he's like it's not pass interference it's a screen well Cooper Flanigan got pass and so Ry caled you know calmed him down and what happened to I think a couple plays later Jaden Thomas comes in and crack somebody as jarian price crack B that bounces that ball outside for Touchdown right and that's another thing I don't want to hear another conversation about the best running back rooms of college football unless you're GNA include Notre Dame and if you're not gonna include not Dame then you're not a serious person anymore don't talk to me about Team Speed when I watched them two running backs last night you know what I loved about it too guys it's not like they were just opening up these big holes and they just ran through untouched they were opening up good holes but then they got to the second level they had to make plays J Dar had to truck somebody before he had to bounce it outside and and run somebody over right I mean and you saw Jeremiah love I mean he he he was brought Here For Speed and explosiveness two best plays he made tonight were about him running through people right so like Notre Dame I felt their M tackling had a lot to do with just not wrapping up not you know not playing with Force Notre Dame was offensive players just running A&M players over tonight in the second half of that game I mean they were the tougher team in the fourth quarter and and that's not a that's is no disrespect to A&M because I gained a ton of respect for the A&M football team tonight they battled their butts off right they came against a really good top 10 nning team and brought it for four quarters guys they just got beat by a better team like I know that's why their fans are so upset they don't realize they got beat by a better team you know and and and I'll say something else too I really felt that I my my criticism for Marcus Freeman tonight is my man treat those timeouts with more respect early in halfs right do not call a timeout when you're going to punt from Midfield let the flipping clock run down right okay but you saw the faith he has in this football team in the second half of this game tonight Bing he was willing to make those two fourth down calls and you know why I'm okay let's first of all he got the first down that was a bad call B Spot in my opinion but the reason I'm good with that even if they did get just flat out clean stopped is that's him saying I know even if they get the ball at Midfield they're not going to go down a score on our defense so it showed confidence in his offense to make the conversion and then it showed confidence in his defense guys we haven't always seen him play with that kind of Coach with that kind of confidence in his football team in past years that showed me something and you could argue that was kind of early to be going for it on fourth down in a game but he said I have faith in my football team and the message that that sent to the Notre Dame football team in my opinion was huge and so to see this team come out and play with the grip that they had play with the toughness they had and play a sloppy sloppy game and still come away with a 10-point win says a lot about who this football team is fellas because you can say like if they just went out and rolled A&M and and saying well maybe A&M isn't really that good but this A&M team brought it and Notre Dame gave them plenty of CH I mean first drive of the game two third down penalties they gave them first downs a third and a second but the first one it would have been a three and out if Notre Dame doesn't have the penalty well then you had the third down uh pass interference on Christian Gray right on the third long wasn't that also on drive one no no that was later what Drive was that on it was on the it was well I'm GNA have to find it but it was definitely not on the first drive the the old trusty uh play sheet here the two the two penalties on the first drive third and two where tayori and Mills right you have the third and two where they was Mills and and and see Mills and tayori right yep and then on was it drive two trying to find a one where Christian Gray had another one where Christian Gray gives up a third down conversion on Third and long because he gets called for pass interference yeah the the second Drive is where there was an offsides and a pi on the same third and 11 on the second Drive yeah you know and you let them go down you end up so I mean there were so many opportunities where where where Notre Dame had misses and mistakes right that you're going to get in the film room and clean up and and that's a great feeling I don't know how if you I mean I'm sure you guys talked about this but when you can watch film and see so many mistakes you know like Sam penlon is gonna have a lot to clean up from this game but you know what he did on those last two touchdown drives blew somebody off the ball and that that's why you're playing them mean Ryan how many times you and I talk about s Pendleton during his two years basically committ no Dame we're like one thing I know about this kid he's gonna punish people he likes punishing people you know and and I thought Anthony nap held his own and you know I've have to get back into film and really break down the entire offensive line but I thought they battled that that was the big thing for me is I thought they battled the the biggest frustration for me I just kept waiting on them to to just take a shot against A&M I I really did I'll give A&M Credit what they were doing and and as they were were playing a lot of really deep too high with their Corners playing aggressive trying to funnel everything inside to basically take the tight ends out of the game and Notre Dame didn't have a kind of a plan of attack so they're basically saying hey we're gonna kind of protect against the Deep ball up the seams and force you to go outside and I don't think Notre Dame had enough confidence they could protect long enough to maybe take some of those outside shots until we got in the fourth quarter and they hit that back shoulder to Bo Collins but like my thing is that was there all night that throw was there all night I thought this the the corner route they hit on snag they're playing too high all night you didn't you can't give me a couple smashes or something you know and and I thought A&M also had a really good third down package I mean third down offense tonight was brutal I mean just absolutely brutal but I thought A&M had a good package they were taking the quick game away and saying you're gonna have to throw the ball downfield to convert on us but you're you know but you're not gonna be able to get have enough time to get that ball out and then obviously there's some pass protection issues but and I could sit here and talk for an hour about all the things they need to clean up they got the win but I we sat here in the chat and by the way I apologize for you know giving away stuff I kind of forget that you guys aren't watching it at the same exact time that I am but when they was Vince how much time was left when when when not Dame got that ball it was 1313 oh at at the minutes they got the ball once uh and didn't do anything with it and then they got it again and scored the touchdown there was 623 left and they went on a 429 drive and I texted you guys and basically said um where's the text I said uh I can find it here I said um because like let me see here to me this drive is the game you either move it and score and win or you punt it again and eventually lose like I really felt like that was the moment where we're gonna find out if this team has what it takes to win can they really put a drive to together because you going overtime on the road against T&M you're not winning that football game ex exactly we talked about that yes not that's not anything that we wanted to happen nope nope nope you just you just don't win that game and to watch them come out and make plays they did and and you saw why they brought some of these transfers in I mean that's ultimately that this is what they brought those guys in to do right is to make plays like this I'm trying to find the the touchdown drive here so it was you had the 20 yard gain to Bo Collins you know get started off with the read Zone Riley keeps it gets plus nine that spin that spin out you get a minus you get third and five and they were terrible on third down all night but they got that one third and five and Jen house we talked about that one how that was that was Ry Leonard's best throw of the night like yes set his feet yeah put it right where it needed to be on third down on a crucial Drive best throw of the night and then to come right back after that throw the Deep ball to Bo Collins that backed A&M off and next thing you know you go quarterback counter for plus 11 you go inside zone for plus 18 go plus one and then Jeremiah Love breaks it for the win it's like that throw was the final that third down throw to me was that final spark that like hey we got this and then that aggressive play call I thought that was huge I thought that was absolutely huge to to be able to make those plays and they they needed it they desperately needed it so yeah they were terrible on third down in this game but they made the third down plays that they that play that they needed to make at the end and and I'll be honest I I heard what you said at the end Vince once they scor I know there was time left my buddy Jason texted me and he was like there's too much time left and I was like there's no way they're scoring this defense right that was my initial thought but then I thought hold on a second that's what I felt about Ohio State last year too let's see what they can do but they made the place I mean never even threatened him never even threatened him and they got two shots at it after that touchdown Drive um so it it was just it was that it was a great team win your offense your defense and your special teams needed big plays in the final six minutes of the game and they all made it I mean that that they made they kicked that field goal like it's p i mean it's just clean snap clean hold clean kick and it was just like was that 46 he made that like it was nothing and you're like this is why you brought that kid in this is why you brought Riley Leonard in this is why you brought in B Collins this is why you brought in RJ and this is her I mean the safety play tonight was so good you know this why you brought in Rod herd and um they're just getting started because you saw the young guys make a lot of play like Drake Bowen has had some plays you're like he doesn't know what he's doing right now but there was a couple other plays did you see that counter they ran a counter and Drake blew the lead blocker up and just completely shut that down so he's gonna have to get a lot better Kinks is gonna have to get a lot better Christian Gray is gonna have to get better than what he did he he didn't trust himself a couple times tonight but those all those young kids that that that had those boac car you got to get better moments oh man made a lot of plays and that's what we hoped this team would be you know we didn't really know we hoped that they could be is yeah they can win when everything is going right but can they really win those nitty-gritty games this game in a lot of ways reminded me of Louisville you let that early score it's back and forth your off is really doing a whole lot second half they pull away Dame never let that happen in this game and and that to me tells me that this team is a little bit different you know this team's a little bit different than they were but I I don't want to hear any anything from all the people complaining all week about how good A&M is and not doesn't win games like this and and oh you know they the SEC this and the speed that the offensive line this make sure you don't try to back out of that now own that right own that ESPN own that and don't try to tell me now that A&M's overrated and they're not that good and and all this other nonsense secd had two chances at home to get statement wins tonight over good teams and both of them got beat by double digits so you all can quiet down a little bit lot of SEC noise until they actually beat somebody good and that's not Texas beating Michigan in two weeks right so I think it was actually for the ACC which The Season's got off to a pretty rough start for the ACC I think Notre Dame and Miami both gave them much needed big Wednesday because everybody knows Notre Dame's they they they're viewed as a deao ACC team so uh big big wins tonight so I'm fired up guys a lot to clean up bench you and IA PA forther review on Monday is going to is going to look at some of that stuff but it's an opener gonna be slop in opener Oregon tonight beat like Idaho by 10 did right did you guys see that what was the final score of that game I know it was a close game was like a 10-point game for a while right I watched some yeah so so so Oregon is team everybody loves beat Idaho by the same amount of points that Notre Dame beat Tex S&M on the road like I I don't want to hear all that noise put some respect on not Dame's name and and and that's really what it needs to be but obviously moving forward you got to keep earning that keep getting those wins so I'm excited guys I'm fired up um it didn't go how I hoped it would go because I wanted a blowout because my nerves can't take that but if you're not going to get that this is the kind of win that you need yeah my only concern coming out of it was question I guess is and we're gonna find that out here by the time we get the Louisville because it won't be answer next three weeks I don't care you come out throwing nothing deep PA next three games don't care I want to see what you do against Louisville was it a hey we don't think they can score on us so we're not going to maybe take some chances that that that maybe give them this or give them that maybe I don't love that that's kind of what we saw against Ohio State last year the difference is this year you had a quarterback to go and make some plays Vince Sean and Vince I said this to you guys when they got Riley Leonard I said they would not have lost Ohio State last year if they had Riley Leonard and this game you saw why yep you saw exactly why well this was a classic case you and I talking about the fact that there's going to be games where he has to put the cape on right yep it's what he did yep that's what he did because look nobody's gonna argue the fact that he didn't have a great game first three quarters even he said it in his interview right he's like I you know I don't know why the mic's in front of me you know I you know I it took me three quarters to get settled in you know what I mean yeah so he's gonna be even his own biggest critic but when it when it mattered most man like he led the team down the field period and it was it was a huge moment just go back to what Brian just said that's going to be a question mark for people that they put try to put over Riley Leonard's head because they say you struggled for three quarters against Notre Dame last year now you faced another good defense and you struggled for three quarters again like is this a trend he's going to have to answer that but he doesn't get the true exam until probably November maybe you know the difference is Sean you know what the difference is they lost s Dame last year you know why yeah because the dudes around him weren't as good on the dudes on the other side of the field that's the big difference is now he surround because like look hey you know what we saw games where Trevor Lawrence wasn't as good as he needed to be but in the fourth quarter I mean he was mediocre against Notre name in 2018 until what until that that two big throws late in second quarter that's all he did the whole game but he made those plays we needed to make those plays right he didn't play that great he wasn't throwing that grade against Ohio State in 2019 he's like okay pass game ain't working so let me do some Superman stuff and you know take the Clark Kent costume off and and go out and rush for 100 yards in this do what I need to do right I that's what quarterbacks do but Sean to your point though that's gonna I mean can you can you drop back and throw the ball and beat teams you know because like yeah you beat A&M this way but if we're being real and we're sticking to if I'm saying hey own what you said before the game I'm gonna do the same thing what I said before the game is guys this is not the same as being Ohio State this isn't your bring on B bring on Georgia bring on Ohio State moment this is a team you should beat this is a team you're supposed to be and they did what they needed to do and that's a that's that's a great thing right but this you beating doing what he did against A&M doesn't mean hey when they play the Bulldogs he's gonna do the same exact thing and they're goingon to win the same exact way nope you've got to be better A lot of the mistakes they made on the o line okay that that may not a fly against Georgia may not fly against Ohio State right a lot of the the missed opportunities Riley had you can't have those when you guys play Louisville in a month you can't have those when you go on the road play USC in November and you definitely can't have those when you guys are playing Georgia orio State on the neutral field in December in January right but but that part will come guys I mean he missed all spring we we we thought there might be some Rust you know this one of the things I had my in my what to look for is he going to be on the same page with the receivers and he wasn't you could see it in pregame and missed like two two straight deep balls in pregame he's gonna have to still to point Sean's gonna have to prove he can make some of those plays in the passing game against the better defenses on the schedule but you can still win these type of games because he can do the other stuff and that's the difference that's the biggest difference in this game and that's why Notre name is one and0 and that's what we said Vince right I mean Thursday guys Ryan and Trev were doing it I don't care if it's 10 to nine I don't care if it's ugly it's sloppy you get one and0 and then you got three get right games till Louisville Comes To Town that's the key and they got they they they got it done done thanks for hanging with us but are you gonna stick around you uh you is that okay with you guys can I hang around for the super chats all good yeah no we've got a bunch we got a bunch to get to but before we do uh I want to finish up this segment with some game balls so uh we're going to go around the horn and I want you guys to give your offensive game ball all right so we'll go we'll go clockwise so we'll go Trevor Shawn Brian Ryan will'll go clockwise Around the Horn Trevor your offensive game ball sir mine's G to go I thought about it because I saw that's what's going to be on our agenda for tonight I think the easy answer would be Riley Leonard okay um for a multitude of reasons but for me uh I'm actually gonna go Bo Collins is gonna get mine for tonight uh for a handful of reasons first he was very consistent in the pass game and I think that that back shoulder that he caught on that final drive for the go-ahead touchdown it's big is what gave the spark to help finish that drive that to me was the play that almost invigorated the rest of the team that was yeah we're just better than this team don't care what the media is saying don't care what college game day said I don't care that we are at Kyle Field and this is the SEC we as a collective team are better than Texas A&M and I think that's a game changer and and Bo Collin stats are not going to jump off of the stat sheet I think he had five for 62 but all of them were meaningful if you go back and look at at the all 22 so he's getting my offensive game ball Sean sorry about that I'm going to go off the grid a little bit I'm going to get my game ball all the first time starters because we knew what the veterans were going to do this game was going to be about ad Don Schuler Drake bour Christian Gray Anthony knap Kendleton all these youngsters that we've been hearing about how talented they are this was the biggest stage for them they didn't get an easy game they didn't get akan they didn't get a directional school they got SEC 107,000 Prime Time here's your first start ever ladies and gentlemen they all showed up inconsistent at times but man they showed up big time especially those two offensive lineman on the left side in the middle of that fourth quarter that is impressive so for me I'm gonna give the game ball to all the youngsters that we've been waiting to get that opportunity because I think all of them took full advantage of the opportunity that was given to them in that first start so perfect Brian what do you got you know Sean all week everybody kept talking about youth youth youth youth youth you know what they forgot to talk about they're really talented really talented so that need get discuss more I love that one I'm going with the running backs all three of them that played tonight including Devon Ford because if if Riley Leonard would have hit a couple throws right Devon Ford's got maybe two touchdowns in this game uh you know the third down one reades in the end zone that was a lot like that throw that Ian book made to Avery Davis to beat Clemson in 2020 rolling right find that guy in that little crease he's got to make that play and then as I said he he might still be running if they' have made the other one but I thought the backs tonight did some I mean I thought Jeremiah L was a little impatient the timing of the Run game wasn't there he missed a couple jump Cuts or cut backs on some inside zones but I thought he got more patient as the game went on and man he ran hard in this game I mean fourth quarter the Notre Dam running backs were like y'all gonna have to bring more than one because you're not bringing me down with one you better bring like you know what's that movie Martin LW oh I see you brought your boys like I mean that's how it's going to have to be right you can't bring me down with one in the fourth quarter it's just not happening you better bring your crew with you and I thought that was the I mean if without those big plays they don't win this football game guys I mean like they couldn't do anything it and you saw you kind of started to see it with like late in the first I think it was late in the first half right where Jeremiah or where where jadarian had his long run and then Jeremiah had his long run at right after that was that second was that second quarter or third quarter I think it was second quarter but I mean you just really saw them kind of spark this team and I mean part of it was I felt A&M's entire game plan was we're not going to let Riley Mills and Mitchell Evans beat us now fortunately for them Mitchell Evans barely played which you know we Al should also make a note that Mitchell Evans barely played in this game and Notre name still won by 10 but their whole game plan was We're not gonna let the guy that tore us up against Duke last year when we were Duke last year beat us and we're not gonna let Riley beat I mean they're running Reed Zone and they're literally running right to Riley you know and so Notre Dame found some answers for that in the second half and that was a good coach adjustment even though I have some issues they've had some good coaching adjustments hey let's let's do some things differently to try to get these backs going and and every time they gave them some room they made plays so I don't know they win this game if the running backs don't play like we all thought and hoped that they could play Ryan I'll go with Riley Leonard I I think a part of a couple of those big plays is based upon the fact that you have a running threat and you have a dynamic element at quarterback like him being able to chip away and to showcase the explosiveness and the make ability has I think that kept you afloat kind of earlier in this football game and then when he kind of really settled in and your run game started going I think a big reason for that was you always needed to count for number 13 so I'll give Riley Leonard the game ball I know it stats weren't gudy but I think he made the big plays and the big moments that he needed to make I'm Gonna Keep it pretty simple can I can I say something real quick to Ryan Ryan that's something that you and I talked about all last year was Riley Leonard is not always going to have the sexy stats you can't just look at Stats to to understand the impact that Riley Leonard has on a game you have to look Beyond just stats to to understand the impact he so I think that's a a great Point Ryan is yeah the stats may not blow you away but you watch get how Texas A&M did everything they could to try to stop him that opened up some of those opportunities for those other guys that's a a great point Sorry Vince nope you're good I'm going to keep it simple I I'm going with the o line I they were the most talked about denigrated group going into this game and I'm not by any means saying that they played a perfect game I'm not saying that but as Ryan said earlier we saw them kind of grow up in front of our eyes in this game and there's still a lot of work to be done but they came when it counted that last Drive they came when it counted right and they were able to push the ball down the field whe whether it was pass blocking giving him giving Ry Leonard enough time to throw that out cut to to great house or whether it was you know run blocking and allowing Riley Leonard to run or allowing you know uh Jeremiah love to run um excuse me Jeremiah love to get that touchdown all of those different things offensive line gets my game ball because I I just I just think they had so much pressure on them as a group in this game that if Notre Dame lost this game everybody like o line didn't do it they're you know they're no good they stepped up they did what they needed to do they weren't dominant but they did what they needed to do when it counted so they get my game ball now I know Trevor and Shawn need to get out of here they have busy days today uh Trevor's got a very busy day today and so I'm gonna let you guys give your defensive game balls here real quick and then you guys can uh you guys can scoot and before we let you go Trevor congratulations in advance my man we are super excited for you go get it have a freaking fantastic day and just you know forget about another Dame football for a while focus on the wedding no no don't forget about ner because that's gonna make your wedding day so much better because you got that dub come on man listen man the his lady's gonna think it's about her and it's gonna be about both it is about her come on Brian it's gonna be about both don't worry guys the the Bluetooth speakers charged the fight songs prepped we're walking into the venue tomorrow smiling it'll be a great day um no I I appreciate it tomorrow today I guess technically it's going to be fantastic she's she's awesome knew I was gonna be on the show tonight so I told her I wasn't gonna stay up too late so I guarantee she's already asleep but good um game ball on defense for me I'm gonna go with Christian Gray um there were a lot of questions surrounding who was going to fill cam Hart shoes and I think think that you could tell that this was his first game carrying that much of a workload but he made the plays where they counted uh he got to stop on on that fourth and two play I believe uh on Texas S&M I guess last attempt to try to drive down the field to tie the game he had that big hit uh in was that early fourth quarter uh it was on a it was on a Crossing route underneath and he had the big hit which I think kind of the momentum was starting to swing a little bit things were starting to feel a little weird and and Christian Gray laid the boom so I think he handled himself well in this environment in this situation so for me he's he's getting the game ball I think I'm going to leave uh I'm gonna do my boy Double R solid I'm gonna let him have his New Jersey Boy I'm not gonna I'm not gonna steal his New Jersey Boy I already know where he's going I think I know where he's going but I think the impact a Benjamin Morrison and Xavier Watts was really evident and I think a lot of teams are going to purposely try to throw away from them but I think both of them are still going to try to make plays or find a way to make plays and that interception ex had was absolutely insane anticipation I just wish he had stayed on his feet because I think he would have taken it to the house so I'mma go ahead and go X Watts I think he had a very quiet yet impactful game because I think A&M purposely didn't want to try him and he was back there single high in a lot of instances as well and uh yeah so I think very quietly I'll give him my game ball for his impact Mr Driscoll I honestly I don't have one I don't I mean because like you give what to one you give it to the other I could make a case for Christian Gray Benjamin Morrison Xavier Watts Rod herd Don Schuler you know um how about this a game ball for everybody on defense except the linebackers no I'm I'm kidding they they did some things too in this game you know what it was guys I don't know that anyone played like maybe Morrison but even he had like a Miss tackle that gave up a 20 yard I mean nobody played like great I mean I thought I I thought Xavier didn't get underneath that first in Cut I thought he should have found that route maybe maybe the coverage was not for him I thought what made this defense so good was just as a unit they played so well Donovan Hein there making some plays I mean youo Howard cross I like was he even on the field the first two quarters and then all of a sudden he's in there and he makes a big old sack at the end of the half you know what I mean it just you know Jord but a whole making plays late in the game you know like not only the pressure but then that great uh run fit on where he got held but he fought hard to stay outside to not let that guy get the corner I there were so many guys that made plays and and I thought Al golden did a really nice job of of adjusting I thought this was one of the best all-around team defensive efforts that that I've seen in an opener against a quality opponent so I'm I'm just I'm just I'm Mark I'm hey this one's for the defense and I'd hand it to the to the coordinator and then he can figure out who he wants to give it to that's what I would have done tonight I just they won this game because the running backs are outstanding the team played hard but but really what down defense was just exceptional tonight I so I I actually wasn't going to go with Schuler Sean which is kind of funny but uh I think a shout out to the safeties because I think the safeties both made obviously big impactful plays I think an underrated player in this game that actually I think kind of set a little bit of a tone as far as like hey there's SEC speed maybe in South B Indiana I think was Jaylen Sneed actually I like I think we didn't talk about him a muff but like he made one play it was crazy in Pursuit he had a couple hurries in this football game as well so I and he more than anything I didn't notice him for bad things which has been kind of the issue with Jaylen Sneed in the past a little bit so I'll throw the game ball to him because I think that there was a couple plays especially one in Pursuit early in the game where you're just kind of like oh might have to scheme up our Run game a little bit differently because there's some Pursuit on the backside of this run right here so I'll throw I'll go with Jaylen sne the junior firsttime starter well since it made it all the way around and he didn't get picked I'll take a Don Schuler on this one and I you know we talked about some of the Mist mes that he made you know a tackle that he missed you know on that field goal drive and and some things like that you know needs to make those plays cool but he also made some very impactful plays as well and being a firsttime starter and a guy that when the dep chart came out I was a little surprised to see him in that starting slot to be perfectly honest with you like we were all impressed with what he did in the spring and all of that uh but he obviously kept that train going that hype train for him kept moving for all the right reasons and they rewarded him with a start and he played a lot of football tonight and with the knowledge that A&M was not going to go towards Xavier Watts like it it they don't they want to take that part of the field away and so Adon Schuler was going to be tested and I think he passed the test you know didn't get 100% but he passed the test I thought he did very very well and he passed with a good grade right and so I was very impressed with andon Schuler I think the you know Notre Dame Nation got a chance to see kind of what we've been seeing in practice and things like that and why we're so excited about what he can do I think everybody got a chance to see that tonight and uh so yeah Adon Schuler is my game ball for defense soce those if you never Vince if you never would have watch Notre Dame play before tonight you would have had no clue that this is the first meaningful snap that the Don was ever play football game 100% he did not play like a basically a red shirt freshman who had never I mean he played with the confidence he was always where he needed to be yeah he's got to clean up and and and you know finish some plays off better but good gosh that's the easiest thing to teach a defensive player the hardest thing is to always be in the right spot no doubt you would not if you if I he's a red FR never played meaningful down you'd have been like no not the way he played tonight no way no way right none of those kids looked like the moment was too big for him that's what Sean was talking about earlier none of those young kids look including Anthony nap and Sam p i mean none of them look like the moment was too big sometimes Nick scouton was too good for him or Shamar Turner might have got him on some plays but as far as the moment man those kids were those young players were phenomenal but adon's confidence is just insane absolutely insane he just he plays like a vet already no doubt no doubt so that's going to do it for our game ball section Trevor Sean thanks for hanging with us as long as you did have a wonderful Sunday Trevor yes congratulations again and uh go have a great time today man you got it all right fellas so that's going to do it for this segment uh make sure you hit that like button that subscribe button that notification Bell share with your family and Irish breakdown. comom all kinds of fun stuff over there you will not regret it so make sure you hit that up best thing money can buy no doubt about that final segment tonight gentlemen we've got a boatload of super chats that we need to get through tonight and this is going to be our final segment of the show so uh if you've already put your super chat in here it comes if you still want to get one in make sure you get it in we're obviously not going to take regular mailbag questions uh because yeah show has been pretty long so far and we got a lot of super chats to get through so because it's 2:00 in the morning yeah they still got to cut the show up so uh let's get through some super chats Brian thank you everyone in advance for the super chats that you guys have been sending us this is awesome and and Ryan has the unenviable spot in the in the show right now where his face gets covered up by all the chats which is hilarious all right I'm not gonna to him I moved him I moved all right so our first super chat comes from red bearded Eagle thank you very much this defense is a lead at all three levels finally have receiver weapons backs ran well quarterback is a Difference Maker if this team can stay healthy and the o line can clean up and improve this could be the team to do it yeah nailed it yeah agree I look there was a lot to like in this game right Brian I mean there was a lot to like there's a lot to clean up but every mistake that was made is a mistake that can be cleaned up false starts you know pis things like like those things can be cleaned up and I think they will be right some of that was environment induced right some of it was rookie induced uh but all those things can be cleaned up yeah I'm reading through some some of these super my respon be yep yep I mean y'all are nailing it y'all are nailing it super chat from with your chess appreciate you for that one IC RN with Irish luck thanks for the Super Chat everyone that said we don't win these games better not change their tune after we won impressed with the o line performance overall and will only get better yep see what I'm saying yep nailed it nailed it great question great comments great comments so far a12 321 thanks for the Super Chat Notre Dame doesn't win these games go Irish love the the pettiness in which he wrote that out is just phenomenal yes yes absolutely because that's all we've heard right from from no fans yes correct yes unfortunately Iden benami thanks for the Super Chat to oh Trev to Trev got it I was like what am I looking at right now to Trev congrats on the wedd tomorrow we will pass on your congratulations Idan I'm sure that he saw it as it was coming through so I'm sure he appreciates that as well be fast thanks for the Super Chat double digit SEC roadwi despite a truckload of mental errors speaks to the talent and the depth on this team yep yeah agreed yeah talent and depth were on display all night long I mean they just were right I mean they were rolling guys in Rolling guys out I mean the the depth was evident in this game and it's probably going to be even more evident when I watch it back to be honest with you because I couldn't track everything that was going on as I'm watching it live but there were different num like somebody in the chat earlier said they had to have their roster out because they had to keep track of all the different numbers that they aren't used to seeing I mean they were they were rolling guys in especially defensively and I mean there was no drop off I mean yeah the depth was evident Han Solo thanks for the Super Chat so do you see Al Washington as an issue his defensive line kept jumping off sides and his recruiting for the position isn't where it should be no yes they jumped off sides kind of part of the aggressiveness it's one game I saw his defensive line also make a ton of plays tonight I saw his defensive line giving up very little ground in the Run game I saw his defensive line getting big pressures when they needed to get big pressures um you know so like is recruiting yeah does it need to get better yeah is it as bad as I think this question is making it seem to be no it is not there's a happy medium there uh but we watched a game be played with two of the best defensive lines in the country one that everyone will acknowledge and Notre Dames was every bit as good as Texas A&M's if not better because the noted Dame players in the fourth quarter when they needed to step up and make plays they made stops when A&M needed to make big stops the end the game they couldn't do it so uh you know big shout out to Al Washington's group tonight yeah they gotta they gotta not be so jumpy sure three times and they were antsy I mean it was the you know two of those happened in the first drive right Brian I mean like they were they were geeked up drives right yeah and they got away with one maybe late but yeah um no I do I see an issue with that Wasington no not right now not after this game no anybody disagree with that we all on the same page on that one Andrew leton thanks so much for the super sticker appreciate you Trevor rocket all the way from Canada thanks Trevor really appreciate you especially now Lindsay is smiling down on the lads and white tonight as well as the IB crew and IB Nation guys I know it was tough at times but what did you like about the o line tonight thoughts trial by fire God bless all you guys ran they battle yeah no I was just going to say they they got better throughout the football game and in the biggest moment they played their best football which obviously matters and I think that uh kid like Anthony knp who's going against a player like Nick scouton you know after you lose a rep or two then you can kind of just you know tuck your tail between your legs a little bit but he didn't he kept battling he kept getting better Sam Pendleton a little bit of the same thing and so I think the offensive line show resiliency and I think that you saw improvements throughout the night mean we talked about it Thursday in the the prediction show they just need to get body on the body they don't have to dominate just get a body on the body and let the athletes take over yeah and that's what they did tonight and and like you said the competition was tough for them tonight oh and they competed their butts off yeah I mean look a lot to clean up but they competed their butts off tonight and um yeah I mean I'll get into the film and and watch more specifically about certain things but sure you know like I can say two things I can feel confident because like Ryan how many times after postgame shows last year did we like man I just the old line just didn't compete they didn't you know they didn't battle hard enough I mean remember when we watched them just get physically their butts handed to them by Duke last year yeah right well they went against that same defensive coaches dline this year with way more talent and they battled their butts off and uh hopefully they can make that consistent which is not something they did last year right K Grant with a big Super Chat thanks K appreciate you very much go Irish beat Northern Illinois yes sir yes sir can't wait one down one more to go I'm actually I'm actually excited to see the new home uniforms uh live and in in person you know what I mean see if the you know the Sun hits the gold you know on the Jersey and all that fun like I'm excited to to see them open up at home yeah agree I had a blot one today did they over yeah somebody that's not good okay fair yeah they they they they punished somebody but it was a team that they should have punished okay but they were a B team last year though so they're a solid Mac team but they're still te ID Minami uh I hate to run Riley but man ride that horse well I mean Ryan it's like you're not gonna run him next week like you did this week but this is one of those games where you leave nothing in the in the chamber to win this game yeah I mean you don't you don't you don't shackle a talent like that especially in a big moment obviously exactly yeah yep Christopher Galloway thanks for the Super Chat what's Shar about this game is the o line did some good things and some bad things the film session should be fun and a lot will be learned agreed yeah there look again and we've we've said this a million times right Brian when when Notre Dame wins a close game and and there's a lot of mistakes I mean it's easy to correct mistakes when you're when you win like it it's easy to watch film when you win period watching film after you lose as a coach or as an analyst or whatever as a fan it sucks I hate it I hate watching film after we lose but when you win ah man there's some stuff we got to clean up but you know what it's okay CU we got the dub you know what I mean mean so you know they get back in the lab and Joe Rudolph will will get with these guys and they'll start to clean up you know some of those mistakes again six starts right they they've almost doubled that in one night okay so there's going to be mistakes all season but those as long as they get fewer and fewer and fewer and they continue to battle and battle and battle I'm good with it I'm okay with it right we said this is a crucial year for Joe Rudolph I you know one game in I I I I have to say that his decisions to for the all for the starting offensive line I think they were a good one after one game yes after one game pass the first let's see let's see where this goes but as of right now stock up I love this one Andy Milton fan thank you very much Andy didn't Flinch free Freeman era is here let's go agreed we had a nice discussion Brian about what we learned about Marcus Freeman in this game if anything yeah a good one yeah no that's it me coach Holz always talked about that right don't Flinch yeah 100% and tonight tonight no didn't Flinch I don't know that Texas A&M did either to be honest with you I don't know that I would say that they did it's just you know Notre Dame it was Notre Dame's game to lose basically with the toal yeah they they got it done no I agree with that I I just yeah no Notre Dame was the better team in the fourth quarter I mean that you know we talked about Lauren Lando and and all those different things and I I just feel like Notre Dame was the better team in the fourth quarter and no doubt that's where it was that was where that game was won 13113 with what you say 6:30 left yeah and and 2313 so when you know when you find out who you are on the inside right not take all the scheme and there comes a point time where it's just like who wants it more right tonight Notre Dame wanted it more correct Andy l22 thank you for the Super Chat there seemed to be some miscellaneous communication between miscommunication oh misom thank you some miscommunication between Riley Leonard and the receivers can you chalk that up to the noise no I chalked that up to them not having a million reps together as their first game together right yeah I don't think that's a noise thing I think that's a I mean you know you could say maybe they didn't hear some checks or some things like that but no I don't think that's a noise thing right I think that's just more of a first game everybody on the same page thing right agreed that's my take so I mean I'm not gonna say that none of it was about the noise because that you know maybe there was a check that was made but I think a lot of just yeah just getting everybody on the same page look there's I mean two your two your three receivers that play tonight that are returners two of are true sophomores rest of year you had Jaden Thomas and the rest of your receiving cords and transfers you had three starting offensive linemen making their first career starts you had a quarterback you know there's going to be some miscommunication now you just you got to get cleaned up by you know two weeks from Purdue and then you certainly got sure you know what I mean well the running backs played last year but they didn't start you know what I mean so like they were in a new role as well so yeah right and look Cooper Flanigan had a good game like he he had a pretty good game I think you know just based on receiving the ball he had some big mistakes but he also did a lot of good things he had the hold that had the right that's true there was a couple other time he had the mistake where he drifted downfield on the the pass interference penalty that but you know look again sophomore is gonna make mistakes like that he also had some really good blocks some punishing blocks and and that was a lot more snaps than he's ever been used to right ran a nice Corner round on that snag concept so no I mean like like Vince you you live with those young guy mistakes earing the season correct Co Cooper won't make that mistake again you you know you don't think anyway so you live with that because the tal there yeah sloppy Joe thanks for the Super Chat Marcus Freeman's defensive recruits are all hitting Schuler Drake KV Christian Etc all balled out mentioned let's get's name mentioned in that conver as well absolutely DM thanks for the Super Chat good good win I left my sister's wedding before dinner ended to get home and watch the game and it was definitely worth it congrats Trevor go Irish surprised your sister let you get away with that but congratulations on getting away with that yes yes just saying I mean I don't know how your sister is maybe she was not paying attention or whatever but hey good for you good for you I bami with another Super Chat thank you very much Jeter is Major Thor needs a lot more air on his kicks couple of them yeah yeah I mean yeah he he looked very nonchalant when he was kicking uh you know maybe that's just his style I don't know I've never seen him kick before uh you know so maybe that's his style I was hoping for a little bit more Hang Time on on some of them they but they the end result like say maybe they weren't pretty but the end result they were all inside the 20 and so okay like I could live with that they're inside the 20 they you know okay they flipped the field um but yeah it it wasn't pretty but Mitch Jeter three field goals those were major right I mean he did all the scoring in the first half so that was Major and then the last one that he hit sealed the deal right and so yeah he was clutch man three for three they brought him in because he's accurate and guess what he was accurate so loved it spark 5219 besides the Fantastic Victory the next best thing was being able to sync my Notre Dame radio app with the play byplay and not listening to Kirk and Chris oh yeah you know I Vince I I I push back some times on the whole ESPN bias I'm like I think there's an overall bias there because there's competition between thees and NBC school and there you know they're especially now that well now that ESPN has the SEC yeah but c one person that has always had a very clear I don't like Notre Dame and I'm going to not be able to be objective when talking about them is Chris Fowler oh my gosh I've never thought Kirk KB Street was an anti noted in guy ever although some of the comments I heard he made tonight were disappointing for him fowers always had an anti-ota name you know what I mean it's just yeah well the comment that you brought in uh was I already I had already brought it up earlier in the show and it it just ticked me off like I was getting ready to turn off the TV come into the you know the office to get ready for the show and he's like oh you know there's better defenses coming so they better be ready to go like really like you just sat through that entire game and you watch this defense do what they did and supposedly watch film of this team supposedly you've seen right but you in person you have seen enough Notre Dame games to know that this defense is good I know you watch this defense against Ohio State the last two years I know you that right so what what are you talking about man like that ticked me off that was the first time that he ticked me off that night or tonight yeah they're going full in on the SEC homerism now that they have full rights to the SEC it's it's going to get wor exactly I but I told y'all before the game that if they win ESPN and SEC schools would be like well a it's not that good blah I told y'all that's exactly respond I'm just disappointed Kirk herbstreet did that but yeah he did must have been in trouble for some comments he made recently so he had to get on the you know toad company line for this game so who knows nonsense nonsense that's why I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to what they were saying during the game but anyway Andy Milton fan thanks for the Super Chat appreciate it Notre Dame was faster gives me optimism let's go you said it you you you wi yeah Vince their their Corners at times are toying with Tex A&M's receivers yeah I me just toying with them that's awesome you know and uh I mean you saw what the running backs did there's a couple times like they I think they got the angle then J Darian Jeremiah just kind of out yeah yeah yeah there's no doubt they were clearly the faster team there's a couple times I thought A&M was gonna get to the edge and a linebacker just closed or a safety came F downhill and just closed they were absolutely the faster team today I would also say this I don't think I don't think A&M's one of the fastest SEC teams either Fair like that's one thing we talk like they're they're not like oh my gosh they're the second fastest team in the AC SEC besides bamama they're not but that was the whole point that I had coming in this is not this team is not who you all think that they are exactly you know what I mean it's because of the SEC shield and because of how big the stadium is and all that nonsense which okay fine a big 12 team nobody would have picked A&M to beat no today right exactly Brian Madson thanks so much for the Super Chat appreciate you I thought the o line played pretty well it's only going to get better agreed I thought line at times got beat because of their lack of size compared to the A&M o line there was a couple times for that there's a couple times I felt like A&M there there's a couple drives where I thought they were starting to lean on the o line a little bit and and you know and they weren't like gashing them for it was like four here five there yes I think they had one drive where I think they ended up kicking a field goal or got a touchdown where I don't know they had a single play that went over 10 yards yeah it was the touchdown Drive it it was that that touchdown drive you know one play towards the end I'm sorry they had one play late the drive that got him into the into the inside the 10 but after 14 y get to that point yeah right but up to that point it was like I think the longest play they had was like seven or eight yards yeah it was but they were just leaning on them yeah it was frustrating because I was like oh here we go you know what I mean like it had that like end of the game Ohio State Vibe you know where they kind of gave up like Notre Dame goes down in school and then they gave up that touchdown drive to Ohio State it's like crap here we go you know what I mean like that's what I started thinking because of that drive but then they came back and they you know three and out like yeah yeah exactly which was massive massive y I mean a Brian after that touchdown drive by the way and I just I just realized this right so after that touchdown Drive defensively uh Notre Dame goes three and out Force the punch and then they go four and out on the final defensive Drive they only played seven more plays defensively after they allowed Texas A&M to score that touchdown and they didn't get another first down no oh God no not even close yeah not even close three and out and four and out boom done like yeah so they they made up for the touchdown drive that's for sure so yep anyway well and and you're not going to keep a good team down like that for 60 minutes for sure the off was just giving them the ball back like real quick like they you could they needed and that's why I felt like that touchdown Drive was also huge for Notre Dame that counter after the first stop because you let that offense defense sit on the sidelines for 10 minutes not of game time but 10 minutes of real time yeah right they were going to be fresher when they got back on that final drive y Mike ferino thank you so much for the Super Chat Ohio State fan here oh wow welcome what stood out to me mik been on the chat he's been in the chat yeah show so I haven't seen you while Mike so glad to have in here man yeah that's fantastic what stood out to me was fourth down play calls in Notre Dame's territory I think back to 2022 game when Notre Dame punted in OSU territory in a close game Freeman is a different coach now he has a lot more faith in the players he has on his team as I think that's a big part of it you know like hey I'll go for it on fourth down because I got Riley Leonard a quarterback sure and I have a defense that I know will bail us out we get stopped yeah I talked about that earlier and I said that that going forward on that drive he went for it on fourth down twice right and to me it was a two-fold thing number one he was sending a message to his offense his young offense especially the offensive line that says I think you guys got this you're GNA get this right so I think it was sending a message to them but then I also said it allows you to make those decisions because you know the defense that you have as well you know what I mean it makes that decision making process a little bit easier easier but it allows him to show his faith in the offense because that I think that's going to come into play somewhere down the line some time this season whether it's during the regular season or the postseason or whatever he's gonna have to put his faith in that offensive line again and I think that they're gonna do it you know technically they did it on both fourth Downs this time but that was a first that second was a first down bad the second surge he was very clearly past the line but what yes it is what it is yes oh was horrible thank goodness it did not affect the outcome of the game thank goodness for sure I see you RM with Irish luck thank you for the Super Chat Collins needs to be careful but I love the fire and the attitude the wide receiver didn't uh fight the last oh wide receivers didn't fight the last few years and we need some fire no you love the fire Bo competed his butt off tonight there's no doubt but man you just can't do that shove they caught a break that they didn't throw that flag agre they a little bit of a break there but um you love the compete level you do you just gotta you know that's just you can't cross that line you know what I mean but yes love the way he I mean fighting for that ball then there's that back shoulder throw that that he actually cut his route off a little too short and Riley actually did a good job throwing it behind him because if he leads him he leads him out of bounds sure but B still had to flip his hips and catch like Jaden Thom receivers fighting it's not just about fight for the football uh on plays you catch but remember two years ago that pick six against Marshall where Tyler telegraphed a hitch throw and Jaden Thomas just sat and waited on the ball to come to him and didn't fight for the football except for that same play happened ton night and Jaden fought the guy off and forced an incomplete pass exactly we talked about that one too yeah 100% And The Block he had on the jarian price touchdown was phenomenal so Jaden Thomas has one catch for 14 yards that's it but he made a huge impact in this game tonight with the way he played the game that's what you need to see tonight was Bo Collins night making plays right Jaden Greyhouse had to make some plays but this was Bo Collins night you know next game it may be somebody else's night and both K gon have to do the Dirty Work right but that's what we saw tonight we saw some of those guys doing some of the Dirty Work and that's and that's that's where you want to be I mean it wasn't perfect blocking on the perimeter but but you know we saw them compete their butts off and that's the key Josh Phillips thanks for the Super Chat good resilient win trust the process agreed yeah agree it's a good process now you just now the next key is show that you can be consistent with this you know with this compete level and that's that's the thing we won't learn until we get further down the road I see RM with Irish luck with another Super Chat thank you very much I was impressed with Sam penon on initial review what did you guys think lot to clean up as you'd expect from a red shirt freshman but he battled I'm gonna wait to to Too Much get into the film but because like there's a couple plays where he gave up B Gap runs and pass Pro but I don't know if that's Sam not recognizing the the second level Blitz not getting over or if maybe he didn't get the proper protection check from the quarterback like I that you don't always know that that's got to get cleaned up there's certainly some areas where he had the false start you know the bad false start I think fourth quarter right didn't he wasn't he the one that had the false start fourth quarter yes uh you know so he's G have to clean that stuff up but look guys Vince you and I have said this a million times with young players guys you're gonna make mistakes as a young player but make 100 tonight Sam Pendleton made a lot of first starter red shirt freshman mistakes but he made him 100 miles an hour and that allowed him to still make some Big Blocks when they needed it so he's got a lot to clean up but you saw tonight Vince why they why they're going with him because they believe he's mover in the Run game and that's that's what he did tonight so he'll get better and better and better he's got a lot to clean up but man I just I keep saying it I love the compete level that this this unit had and Sam's certainly one of those guys yeah yep spark 5219 a big hats off to the strength and conditioning staff we talked about that as well Brian I always found it not funny maybe not comical but interesting when you hear other media members you know when they're watching spring practice for five periods or five periods or in the fall and they're like llando is doing a great job you know and all this stuff it's like do do you really know that yet maybe he is maybe he is but how do you know right that that's my point exactly yes now we have seen it in a game in a in an environment of heat and all of that where the other team was struggling and Notre Dame wasn't and they were the stronger team in the fourth quarter okay now my hats off to Lauren Lando and the nutrition staff and everything else that got these guys ready for this game no doubt about it but I thought that was a little premature you know a couple of months ago but now hey okay hey every dog finds his tail so I guess they were right but uh right now hats off absolutely I completely agree with you spark it was a big part of this win tonight Notre Dames Notre Dames wine and cheese thanks for the Super Chat Kyle Fields a tough environment for the home team ouch love it ouch love [Laughter] it Laura D's Jurassic Park shorts easily one of my top 10 favorite uh names by the way five definitely top five it might be top five I just didn't I didn't want to I didn't want to pigeon hole myself but you know I gota yeah uh thanks for the Super Chat yo V daddy RR missed you sd2 Mike's how you feeling now F yeah uh like coach D said just win o and welcome Trevor hit everybody love it right yeah end of the day man that was the key just I don't care how it happens win a game just win a game doesn't have to be pretty just you got to come out of this Stadium one and0 and they did yeah for sure Laura dur Jurassic Park shorts again thank you for the Super Chat Texas anmd looked tough yeah they were they played well they played well yeah nerd for life thank you for the Super Chat all I heard was about crowd they didn't do anything one false start if I remember correctly crowd doesn't cause Pi or holding defense was Unreal I love Riley he's not perfect but dang that heart missed 88 that heart missed I don't know what the last part yep I think he missed 8 it's probably what he's meaning like Riley missed 88 not having Mitchell Evans oh my guess okay 104 gotcha got prob my guess that's my guess what you saying got it it was a lot St it was a lot of information all right Hy 03 thanks for the super chat a lot to clean up but you got the win that that is a very way to put it and I love it yes Marian Miller thank you for the Super Chat really appreciate appreciate it the rotating linebackers were flying all over the field tonight that's one of the things that I want to watch more specifically offensive line and linebacker play to be honest with you uh when I when I do the look back because I do want to see kind of what the rotation was from the linebacking Corp how were they doing there were a couple of times where I thought they took on some blocks when they maybe shouldn't have they you know the block destruction wasn't fantastic but there were other times where I thought that they were very quick to the hole and making plays so just one of it's like yeah there was a there was a swing pass that Jaden Ury did not play well at all then you go back and watch that first drive on that third down stop uh Jack Kaiser's out leveraged on that wheel route but Wegman misses because Jaden Ury is right in his face going this way Vince they were great this way they don't weren't always they were a little bit more inconsistent when they were playing side to side it was fun to watch and that's where the exactly exactly Dr pro thank you so much for the Super Chat o line getting by this game sets them up for the rest of the season and for the next few years y agreed no doubt about it look this was baptism by fire at its highest level you know what I mean and and Joe Rudolph and Marcus Freeman and uh coach Den Brock made a decision and they stuck by it they're like look we're going to play these young guys that's who we're going with and they didn't have a quick you know hook on any of them from what I could tell pretty sure they all played the entire game and they they let them play for good or worse or however it ended up they let those guys play and there's nothing like experience and they are like I said they went from six starts going into this game to 11 starts they've almost doubled their starts in one game which is m blowing Lord ears Jurassic Park shorts thanks for another Super Chat gotta peace out steel mill comes calling real early tomorrow get that love all you guys thanks for all thank you Laura appreciate you very much nut crud thanks for the Super Chat Bo Collins appears to be a dog this young linebacking Corp played well let's give a shout out to Jaylen Sneed thought he showed development from a talent to a football player go Irish yeah like that one play he blew up the Jet Sweep I mean he had to read that he had to read that and just destroy it I mean it just he played a lot better tonight a lot better tonight well we had heard he was doing he showed up tonight yes agreed and that's the key yeah Arman gallanosa thank you so much for the Super Chat hopefully tonight sends a positive message to Duce Knight regarding his final decision I love your optimism but the reality is Duce Knight is not making the decision he's going to make here soon because of winning and losing his decision is based off things that have nothing to do with winning and losing because if it was he wouldn't be going to aubert um but I'll just tell you how I feel about the decision go look at my commitment list at Irish breakdown. comom and you'll know exactly how I feel about de's decision it's it couple vowels and consonants short yeah Andrew letson thanks for the Super Chat the Let's go Irish chant during the last few possessions was epic chills yeah that was pretty awesome yeah what was that like could you hear the crowd okay I could yeah this this was not nearly as uh this stadium was not nearly as soundproof as like Notre Dame stadium is okay and it was Rock I mean it was shaken the Press Box was shaking almost the entire game that's what was nice about the last couple series because it was nice and still and calm they they took the crowd out I love that that is fantastic that is a because you could hear it on TV too the Let's go Irish chant yeah you could hear it on TV and I was like that great be awesome it was freaking great it so great great it was good what before we move on what how what was the because it was kind of hard to tell it looked like a lot of A&M fans obviously what was the Notre Dame contingent like it was it was good I mean it wasn't it wasn't like how other teams do to Notre Dame Stadium but fair that's because A&M fans aren't gonna be selling their tickets like some Notre Dame fans but like there was two big Pockets one up top one below okay and then some scattering all around Notre Dame was well represented tonight tonight okay cool single dad Jimbo thanks for the Super Chat how about Jaylen Sneed y he's got the rocket emojis played well yeah played well best I've seen play just kind of got three super stickers in a row one from Ed three thank you Ed so so much man really appreciate you uh Raymond t appreciate your Super Chat man very very much and then my guy Tim Opal one of my former players Tim uh Tim Opal with super sticker appreciate you Tim so so much my guy Spanky had a super chat but he also put a bad word in there that I don't want to bring up on the chat but he said did it to me to Vince he also did it after the field goal and after I explicitly told him not to I don't know what that's in reference to it's it's in reference to uh basically being excited in a text before we knew what happened you guys too yeah that's right because I was texting Jason too yeah y that's my bad I keep forgetting that you guys aren't watching the same time I am it was great no because I was like oh man well now I know something Good's gonna happen but then I could sit back and not be nervous and actually watch something good happen you know what I mean so hey it didn't take away from the excitement I messed with my wife one time um during a game because it was a game that I could travel to so I'm watching the the play byplay as I'm watching the game you know so I'm watching the live stats y and the live stats always come up before the game and so I'm like I bet you they're doing this I bet you they throw to this and she's like man you're getting all these right I start laughing what I said I got the plate by play right here babe she's like oh that's messed up but yeah like I have to like take my because I always have the live stats up as well for just to like uh you know back up what I'm writing down anyway so I take my laptop and I kind of close it because I don't like seeing the play byplay before I actually see it on TV so yeah that's always a thing uh L uh Lil be thank you for the Super Chat really appreciate it loudest ND fan from Nashville Let's go Irish my girlfriend learn how obnoxious I can be during Irish football games let's go IB love that love it that's awesome Nashville is an awesome City by the way the key is that she's still your girlfriend after the game the key exactly let us know how that goes but uh I'm GL yeah that's that's hilarious uh little be again thank you for the Super Chat Brian is getting me fired up choose one ESPN right I mean just pick a lane and stay in it if you're gonna talk all that noise about how good A&M was and how much notame is going to struggle with this this and this don't give me the well they got better defenses coming up down the road how about you put some respect on that name because y'all didn't think they could do this and they did exactly that right and y'all act like not a played out of their minds no they didn't and they still got that by 10 points so I they not play well I mean let's be honest that's what they are it's it's become a joke it's sad but they you know they're what they are because they don't have any competition but they become a joke and it's disappointing yeah it's very disappointing drro Hunter thanks for the Super Chat Trevor get off and rest big day today SL tomorrow we got him off yes we did we did Charlie Weiss say last belt loop thanks for the Super Chat Charlie appreciate you I was the student section that atmosphere was insane just got home a couple minutes ago go Irish Manzel Rolex was shining from the field as well oh was Johnny there huh yeah I mean he was do he was the guest picker so I matched out all I know is Johnny's team is 0 and one right now that's all I know yeah yeah good I I didn't get to see any of that stuff because I was at a cross country meet this morning but I didn't I didn't get to because I chose not to turn it on that's fair too but I wasn't even home to do it so I didn't even know who the guest picker was so between Johnny Manzel and Pat McAfee and all this other I was like no I'm good I'm good right and Desmond Howard just like throw him into a yeah a hard pass yeah get love this one Carson Jackson thanks for the Super Chat so which team had guys cramping again I remember there was responses in the in the uh like chat like when we were talking about like this heat won't play a big factor oh you guys are crazy and all the A&M fans are like oh the Heat's it's just in Texas it just the heat means more in Texas okay well then how come your team isn't prepared to handle the heat because the team from Indiana look totally fine the heat they Wen on cramping up in the fourth quarter why was all your guys going down funny how maybe should have maybe all should come up and practice in Indiana next year before your first game I'm just saying I mean I guess technically Brian we were wrong that the heat didn't have a fact have an effect on the game because it did on I said it wouldn't have an effect on Notre Dame okay fair enough I thought that that storyline was so overplayed to me like and from people that don't coach right like that's the thing I kept trying guys I've coaching all these way but like I bet you you never coach I'm like okay whatever dude yeah yeah the guy that's never been in Indiana is gonna tell me what Indiana people can or can't prepare for sure all right gotcha yeah you know and it was hotter in Indiana the week before the game than it was in Texas PS which was freaking phenomenal by the way it was fantastic but it me it but the humidity means more in Tech Vince because they're in the SEC now Texas is all out now two big schools are in the SEC so heat means more in Texas now than it does in Indiana so that's my favorite it just means more yeah humidity just means more so does that mean that that 10-point loss even means even more now right that means so I I can dig that Mark Mangino's g mark Mangino's G string thank you for the Super Chat Mark uh pretty funny name win or lose Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame do things the right way I'm proud to be a Notre Dame fan and I'm proud to be a fan of a team coached by Marcus Freeman however huge win team played with swag and a chip on their shoulder okay so that's all true but I just want to let you know that the Positive Vibes I get every time I read about Laura dn's Jurassic Park shorts I get the exact opposite feeling whenever completely ruin that thought process when you give me this spark man Gino's cheek drink that is a horrible thing to run through your mind horrible horrible just awful oh that's fantastic I think I'm getting punch drunk at this point got back back from sigy vits okay cool sigy 13 thanks for the super chats plural thanks to all you guys incredible effort tonight I'm floating on this win best not D coverage in the business great to see everyone on the show also safe travels home Brian thank you for IB great seeing you Ryan and Sean too Trevor is a fantastic addition always love Vince lfg Irish thanks man appreciate it appreciate it takes a little something extra to do shows after games you know because you just want to like celebrate but it's fun to celebrate with the IB family too so you know I wouldn't have it any other way I mean people have been hanging with us too Brian like I don't know if you noticed the numbers but like people have been hang still over a thousand yeah awesome and I love it salty Virginia peanuts thanks my man for the Super Chat why was fison returning or not punts so he was returning punts before he got hurt and then it was great house and they let a couple bouns I think that's what he's referring to he let a couple of boun there was one that I thought carried a lot like the the one the one long 71 yard late I doubt in the stadium it carried okay he had it queued up and it just Carri you know sometimes a pel just kind of carry a little bit more than you think and if he would have tried to run underneath that you know it just kind of like look just sometimes it just you know G to let it go they need to do a better job of obviously consider doing that but he he won the job in Fall Camp oh yeah he's a good pun returner I mean we I think you and I talked about this I think he's the best PT returner that they've got just because still like see Jaden I'd still like see Jaden gr I think Jaden GR is but I'm I'm comfortable toward faon it's close right and great house was out there after fison went down so yeah yeah yep it's like one of those things were like okay I would go with so and so but I definitely understand why you're going with so and so fair enough feel about it yep so it's this isn't Ryan but we'll try our best to answer it Chris Allen thanks for the Super Chat Ryan if you're the head coach what adjustments happen week one to two go Irish great work jents well I think he's just clean some the sloppiness you know and and then also the timing you know like look crowd noise isn't why you jump off sides because you're supposed to be keying the ball so crowd noise shouldn't matter you know just yeah we gotta do what we gotta do let's let's be patient you know just um you know wrapping up tackling a little bit better being in a little bit better position on offense just some of that I think some of that timing stuff with the o line in the pass game and the receivers will be some of the biggest adjustments you really see from week one to week two and then just obviously the penalties got to get cleaned up big time I mean you can't have 11 penalties right you know like you said Vince I think all but maybe one of their penalties you can't really chalk up to crowd noise yeah not doing what you know you're taught to do that's the big thing and those are all things that they can fix I mean all of them yep last one Vince oh boy had to be that name Mark manginos again thanks for the super chat you can tell Brian was a coach he had me wanting to run through a wall go Irish can't wait to hear fine bombs spin this way I was pretty good at the motivational speeches man I'm not going to lie to you I was pretty good at that that was one of my things that was one my things I will say one of the things that I do love as a fan of any team right that is picked to lose or it you know whatever is just listening to whoever eat crow and how they spin it because they'll spin it it'll be spun you know they're not I told everybody exactly how the SEC country and ESPN was going to spend this e i told every A&M's not that good blah blah blah blah blah officiating blah blah blah blah blah and it won't be wow notame is better than we thought right you know now there not not everybody ESP that way Greg mroy I believe picked no Dame to win right I Joel CL at Fox picked no to win and you know and like and and not everybody picked n to lose did so out of SP Josh P picked n name to lose I know for a fact Josh P has a lot of respect for D's program just you know he he made a bad pick I picked Florida to beat Miami we it happens you know you get it wrong sometimes right and I got it very very wrong in that particular game but uh you know so so it happens uh you know but uh some of that stuff is just clown stuff like Paul fine bomb he's a joke I mean but again guys that's his shtick his stick is not to give you real analysis his stick is to like I said the other day he's a shock jock that's all he is and if you're if you're going to debate him about real analysis then you're just you're wasting your time it's just it's not worth it first of all stop watching it you know if it bothers you and us that much stop watching it and I do but of course I get told all the things that people say and get set clips and stuff like that but uh I am so happy that they're all eating crow and I just not even eating crow but even if they don't say it they know it that's the thing is like they don't all verbalize hey we were wrong but you know you know it's eating at them and and and the other thing too is they exposed Chris Fowler exposed himself tonight again for being an absolute hack an anti notame hack with his comments you know what I mean he exposed himself for I'm I don't really actually know football I'm just a personality that got this cool gig even though I'm not like even close to you know I can pretend that I'm in Gus Johnson's universe but I'm not you know what I mean and um you know like sea MCD people like that those are the people that should be doing these Prime games not that guy he's a joke you know I mean literally bring Brent Brer back please for the love of God bring him back instead of his clown he's a joke he's an absolute joke but you know what the great thing about games like tonight is they get exposed right because because some of them like hey they made h i mean Nick sain made an honest evaluation he experienced Str I was I took a shot of him earlier but I was just kind of having some fun with it yeah his team struggle with the the noise at a& in the last two years only won by six last year lost to him the time before that I get all that so he kind of projected I don't think there was any bias there with Coach Sabin but he was wrong a lot of the others it's just like Desmond Howard just invents ways to not pick Notre Dame to win I mean like just some of those guys it's like dude like like not's on upset alert Paul fine bomb well another one wrong got that one your clown show lot these other guys it's like I don't respect them because I think that they're not being honest and and when they're wrong like I hey look I I I really thought Florida had a shot to hangle Miami I was completely wrong I overstated how well their offensive line would play I overstated how well they would put their receivers in position to be successful I got that one way wrong I'll live I'll own that I got it wrong it's not that Miami's you know or you know Florida's not as good as I thought they were gonna be Miami also played a lot better than I thought they were going to play it really did Miami played really well and every time you Florida tried to make it a game and Miami said nope not today we're GNA kill you you know and so Props to them but yeah couple couple d double digit home losses to the non-conference to the old SEC today there Vince y Virginia Tech wouldn't have blown that lead late this would have been a really sweet sweet day between the ACC and the SEC so anyway funny how yeah I uh I wanted to go off even more tonight but I started getting excited about the team and you know moved off of it but they they they're they're all exposing themselves for their their clownery tonight with how they're view how they talk about Notre Dame yes you know but they'll learn yeah I'm very curious to see how you know obviously I didn't watch any postgame stuff tonight but I am very curious to see because there's no NFL tomorrow or anything for them to really talk about so I'm interested to see how some of these National folks start talking about how this game went down because look at the end of the day as of right now because there's still a couple of games to be played right there there's some some high-profile game tomorrow and then Monday as of right now this was the best game that's been played this weekend in my opinion right I mean it was so it's gonna get talked about where's Notre Dame on the radar like that's what I want we may not like how they're talking about it but they're definitely G to talk yeah right that's what I'm saying like but it's going to be a topic of conversation that they cannot avoid you know what I mean and and so I am very interested to see how this goes absolutely so is that okay that's right you said that was the last one all right hey everybody thanks for hanging out with us as long as you guys did I mean we had some big numbers in here which
