Mets tonight mourning the loss of Ed crane poool the miracle met spent his entire 18-year playing career in Queens making him the longest tenur player in team history the pride of James Monroe High School in the Bronx died from Cardiac Arrest Sunday in Florida he was 79 years old heav sad news to pass along earlier today one of the original Mets Ed cran poool passed away Sunday after suffering Cardiac Arrest no player in the history of the Mets franchise has played more games wearing the Mets uniform than CR pool played all 18 years of his career with the Mets Bronx native was a member of the team's first two World Series teams including the 69 Miracle Mets cran pool Homer in game three of that Series against the Orioles it was a lifetime 261 hitter 118 home runs again Ed cran poool passes away at the age of 79 am I right Ed crane had the thrill at the age of 18 of appearing in the opening day lineup of New York Mets I was given the opportunity by bangle and the ball Club to make the team and uh start the season here I'm really happy I chose the Mets cuz I'm up here now and I just hope I can stick hope he could stay well he stayed for 18 years he sure did longer than any other met in bra who left us today at the age of 79 holding on Lee May in that photo it's a very sad day for the Vets franchise today we lost any P who played more games for the Mets than anybody in the history of the franchise signed as a 17-year-old out of James Monroe High School on the Bronx made his major league debut in the Mets first season in 1962 and played 18 years for the Mets from 62 through 1979 there with his first manager Casey stangle look how young I can't imagine being in the big leagues at 17 years of age there with some of his 1969 met teammates Jim mcandrew Cleon Jones D denn Tu mcro ding him in Champagne after the Mets World Series Victory Mike Bale and Joe Tory and Muhammad Ali about that and an old timers day with Art Shamsky and Cleon Jones and Jay Horwitz ground ball hit to third off the bat of George Springer and Vientos throws him out one pitch and one retired for mill in the third I mean Eddie was so much of a part of the fabric of the Mets from the very first season he was a New Yorker through and through he loved the franchise he loved everything about the vets in New York and he battled a lot of health problems in recently years but he fought his way through them he sure did in 18 years in a met uniform uh he will he always boasted he would come up to me and say now Keith I'm the alltime hit leader at Old Shas St and always will be yes he will he was the Met's alltime hit leader until David Wright passed him by right and I mean Eddie was a joy to be around he was a charitable person he wrote a fantastic book I don't know if you read it it came out a year or two ago definitely worth a read about his career in baseball ball right from the sandlots in in the Bronx well he's a part of met history he had one for six in 1962 and in six games that he played part of the 69 World Series and 73 National League Champs Maro SLS one the center Bader back to the warning track and he runs it down Bader again gets a great break on that ball going back and makes a difficult play look easy two out well this defense is a strength of the Mets and the Outfield in particular and baders is Fest center fielder as you're going to see so two out and nobody on for Vladimir Guerrero Jr who walked his first time up think crano becomes the fourth member of the 1969 Mets to pass away this year we lost Jerry Grody and Buddy harelson and Jim mcandrew earlier this year that'ss are wearing a patch for harelson and for RO they're going to add a patch for Eddie next year because the time is so short this season right and he Ed deserves a full season there's will he made number and Ed will be on there the entire season next year it's time to uh to cherish those 69 that's those who are left it's been 55 years and a lot of them are getting older and fortunately we have a number of them still around and every day is a day of celebration for that group Guerrero swings and misses in a high fast ball and it's nothing in one 22 from Mill and got him with a slider so Miguel gets the side out in order in the 30 he's retired seven in a row we played three the day we lose and crane pole at the age of 79
